I assume he said he wanted to leave if he wasn’t going to play and has responded well to the challenge. Easily one of our better players in the last 1/5 of the season. He looks like he’s playing for his future here. So very promising. I look forward to him hopefully hitting the ground running next season even if it’s off the bench again for the first few games. You can’t keep a good enough player out of the team. End of story

I'm assuming the fact he has started the last 3 games means we have no intention of selling him. I think he deserves to at least be one of the wing options and get a decent number of minutes.

Another positive of keeping Amad is that he has also played false 9 and 10 which provides us with some options.
Hope you’re right. But at United to often post SAF spots are just given to new signings or established names. The benchmark for a young player to breakthrough is much much much higher than for an established player to lose his place. Look how crap and for how long he was crap Maguire was before he got dropped. Rashford don’t even know if he’s dropped or injured.

BTW, I used Maguire as an example, but credit where credit is due this season he has been great.

There is 0 chance Garnacho sits, and for good reason.

Rashford is also our most proven attacker by a distance, and shows up in big games. It really should be Rashford and Garnacho starting and hitting them on the break as he said. Amad to be a sub is good.

I mean not sure why you're saying "for good reason", he's largely been terrible for a month now and has started 37 fecking matches in a row.

He took a knock to the knee in the first half against Arsenal, that pain he felt from the knock was what caused him to be subbed in the second half. When you are saying ”stalled his physical development” it kind of sounds like you are talking about some teenager here? He turns 22 in the summer. He is half a year older than Höjlund for example. He is not getting bigger than this. And that is fine.
I know that a lot of posters on here are very concerned about some players frame, but it does not define a players abilty to win duels out there. It is about balance and anticipation. And he played loads of games last season at Sunderland at a pace not far off what we are seeing in the prem. Physically he is fine.
I wasn’t talking about him getting bigger. The physical development I was referring to is fitness, stamina, his balance, endurance, and agility.

He hasn't been terrible. And yes. He's started 37 matches in a row. Like feck is he getting dropped for the cup final when he has been our only winger who has functioned even remotely acceptably this season.

He’s not getting dropped. Amad might if baldy decides to play Mr Invisible as a 10 with Bruno wide.

Rashford should start. He's had a bad season but he's our quickest player, most reliable out ball for counters, a big game player, and gives us the best chance of beating city if he actually turns up.

Our best chance is Onana in the penalty shoot-out, if it goes that far.

Rashford Garnacho with Bruno feeding them long balls is our best chance - we are not going to out tiki taka City so no point in starting Amad when we'll have 20% possession

It's a tricky one.

Amad should have been given more opportunities in the previous couple of months after he'd returned from injury and built up match sharpness, etc. And now that he has, he's performed quite well and 'dropping' him would be harsh.

But there's also just tactical selections for specific games / opponents. And although the timing isn't great - just as he'd established himself with us - I think there's definitely a strong argument for going with the quicker options up front like Rashford, Garnacho, Hojlund for this game as opposed to a ball player like Amad. It would be unlucky on him, and no criticism at all of his recent performances. Just a selection potentially best suited to the specific game.

The point is that for Bruno to get the few seconds needed to pick a decent pass we need to be able to break their press and move to the next transition of play.

No one thinks that Diallo is going to come in and make us dominate City with 60% possession but his skill set is quite unique in our team and will allow us more opportunities to counter them well.

We need players who the ball sticks too in tight attacking areas.

I would say he has done enough last couple of games to start at Wembley.
I would be hesitant to change too much from what has worked quite well last couple of games.
Football has been poor but it was still a massive leap forward from getting bullied by the likes of Brentford and Palace.

Rashford has played 22 mins in the last two games, he is not ready to start. He is a much better option coming off the bench fresh for 30 mins. McTominay has done nothing to keep his position and if you put Hojlund in his position for the chance against Brighton, I think we're ahead much earlier in the match.

I would be shocked if Rashford started such an important game after that many minutes and time out. I am also firmly of the belief of playing Garnacho and Rashford - two players who give the ball away a silly amount, would be a complete tactical gaffe from the manager, against a team like City.

fecking thank you someone gets it. “Playing on the counter” isn’t just instantly hoofing it long like we are West Ham, and it’s not like Garnacho nor Rashford has been sharp where you trust them to make the ball stick and convert chances with ease. So yeah my suggestion is one of them should come off the bench while Amad starts, and Garnachos lack of finishing polish makes him a better candidate coupled with his fatigue (we just saw how much better Hojlund looked coming off of the bench fresh for 30 minutes).

Or Bring Hojlund off the bench and play Amad where McTominay played today as a deeper forward with Garnacho and Rashford on the flanks. Either way you need players that can retain the ball under pressure to counter.

Yeah, I could see this:

Rashford---Bruno-----Amad
Amrabat-Casemiro-Mainoo
Dalot-Licha-Varane-AWB

and the idea is that Amad and Mainoo can play in tight spaces and Bruno and Rashford breaking. Mainoo on Rodri mostly with Casemiro and Amrabat in midfield and you take off whichever gets a yellow after 55 minutes.

Really feels like we don't have the team to do the sort of job, needed, though.

Amrabat would be a disaster against City, he's caught in possesion way too much

We really lack options for midfield. Think we have to get creative there. As we saw against Brighton, Amrabat crumble under pressure far too easily.
Bruno could probably play a deeper role if needed, Amad could take his role further ahead and Garnacho or Antony fills in at RW.

We do lack options but of the options we do have McT is the one who'll play

I think he's probably the only real option against Foden's work at the top of the box which is sort of their new "De Bruyne making a run between LCB and LB and getting a low cross or pullback in." Can't see Casemiro turning well enough. McTominay gets lost off the ball but he's an option I guess.

All I can say is that I would like to see more of him next season. I think he did enough this past month or so to earn himself a chance here.

He definitely has, hope to see much more of him next season.

Shame he didn't play today, I would have really liked to see him come on in the second and help retain the ball.

Should have atleast got that few minutes Mount got at the end.

Well he didn't get the chance today but that winner vs Liverpool enabled today. Promising few months and definitely should get more minutes next season.

I worry that this is Amads last game with us. Whilst I’m really hoping we have him in the squad next year, especially as I believe he is our most technically talented winger, and also very close with our young stars in Mainoo, Garna and Rasmus.

However, it seems increasingly likely that we will be bringing in another winger this window, and we already have Rashford, Garnacho, Antony. So Amad will probably be 5th choice next season. I think he should be ahead of Antony but I can’t see us being able to sell him due to his fee and wages.

I think he will stay. Even if we sign a new winger it's not out of the realms of possibility that we sell one of Rashford or Antony in the summer.

Based on Amad's last few appearances he has done enough to warrant chances. He can also play AM and false 9 which adds some more strings to his bow.

Makes absolutely no sense selling Amad this summer unless itis for crazy money

That performance against Liverpool was as big a reason for us winning this trophy as the performance in the final.

If he performs at this level over entire season, it would be c.20 goal contributions if not more. But he only played 467 minutes this season - not enough to judge him, really.
