Pretty sure that was known, tonight was extra bad but he has looked poor in his other limited appearances and was woeful when he played for Turkey at the Euros. There was a story a week or two back stating he could be allowed to leave in January and honestly if we could find anyone willing to take him it would be fine by me. Heaton can cover number 2 until the summer and in a pinch we can utilize one of the younger lads as 3rd choice.
Going from Sergio Romero to this guy is a pretty downgrade.

The problem is he plays a game now and then so lacks match sharpness. Other teams field their GKs in cup games and Amorim clearly understands that. Still personally baffled we let Kovar go as he should have been our number 2.
How do Liverpool get Kelleher as a backup keeper and we get Bayindir?
Always had the feeling he’d be a bit pants. I know it’s hard to barely play for your club and be expected to step up but that’s what a backup is. Would rather Heaton.

Kovar was an Acadamy lad and so the fee was pure profit and with amoritization Altay is only costing around 1M per season. It freed up around 5M towards financial compliance which we met by the skin of our teeth, a classic case of PSR causing clubs to make decisions for anything but football reasons. Vitek is getting good experience on loan this season and I don't see why he can't be considered for the backup keeper role next year whilst we address more pressing needs.

I'm all for criticizing ETH's eye for talent (or lack thereof), but I don't think this one had much at all to do with him.

The truth can be more complicated than that. It was a clear foul and the goal shouldn't have stood. But he also should do better, as a keeper you can't give the referee a chance of making the mistake given how inconsistent (well, how shit) they've been... especially on the corners recently.
