Roonie retract your statement and said you stayed for at least next season.

no but it means that they where just as much the other players effort as his. what im trying to say it that our midfield made it a lot easier for him to score than chelsea do for drogba, liverpool for torres, arsenal for adebayor. the service provided to him is second to none.

Also I i said that his open play goals most of the time they where abotu being at the right place at the right time to receive the killer pass, just like ruud. unlike strikers like henry, torres (in atletico) that half of the time have to create chances mostly on their own. No in no way am I saying the frenchy and the spaniard are better than him

that's a pathetic attempt to belittle his contribution, if anything being at the right place at the right time is in itself a great trait to have, the likes of Ruud and Inzaghi have made a career out of it, but that's only part of what Ronaldo is about, he can make something out of nothing, score with both feet, score the tap ins, shoot from distance, freekicks, headers etc....

that's only part of what makes him such a complete forward.

They are the most ridiculous club in the world, Zidane was 29 (correct me if i am wrong) and they paid 47 million pounds for him. That makes an 80 million pound Ronaldo deal seem sensible.

He is drawing a better offer from us, i am not disputing that they wont offer 300k, but, if they are...why would he not use it to lever a better contract for himself? Or see if they are willing to actually put up that money?

Madrid are the crazy ones here, they are full of shit, Ronaldo has played his cards perfectly; he will be the best paid footballer in the world come the end of the summer, rightly so.

Just where do Real get all their money from? Are they a PLC?

Adebayor gets more chances than Ronaldo. You're coming across as if you're trying to play down the rare ability to be in the right place at the right time, especially for a winger. Ronaldo created plenty of chances on his own, and scored plenty of chances from great positional awareness, if Ronaldo wasn't there at the back post putting all these goals in I highly doubt Giggs or Nani would be.

I never said giggs or nani would have been there. But it wouldnt surprise me if an excelent striker ala ruud 2003 would have banged them in too. Most of his goals where due to amazing positional sense and a nice amount he created for himelf. im not slagging him off. I just feel that people are fearing way to much if we lose him. We are in no way as dependant of him as arsenal where of henry during the first half of this decade.

Rio - Ronaldo must stay

Rio Ferdinand has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Manchester United after the winger expressed a wish to play for Real Madrid.

Ronaldo is the Spanish champions' top summer transfer target, but Real's pursuit of the Portugal international has angered United.

The Premier League giants have threatened to report Real to Fifa following the public nature of the Spanish club's interest.

But, on Thursday, Ronaldo revealed that he is keen to join Real, providing president Ramon Calderon is willing to meet United's demands.

United are sticking to their stance that the 23-year-old is not for sale and stand-in captain Ferdinand also hopes his team-mate stays at Old Trafford.

Want to build

Following last season's triumphs in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, Ferdinand feels it is vital that the Red Devils squad remains intact.

"This team can get better, but we need it to stay together," Ferdinand told The Sun.

"We have worked hard to get to the position we are in and want to build on the success we have had.

"That means keeping all the players at the club."

Just where do Real get all their money from? Are they a PLC?

Not sure. I've heard they were/are government funded to some extent.

What I want to know is how are they going to raise 80-100 million when they had to get a 25 million pound loan out to cover running cost for the club not long back.

Reports say they may be taken over by a mexican billionaire who has promised to buy Ronaldo.

Well Calderon is happy again at least.

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has spoken of the 'honour' his club feel over Cristiano Ronaldo's declaration that he wants to join them.

The Manchester United winger broke his silence over his future on Thursday when in an interview with Brazilian website Terra he said he would join Madrid, if they were willing to pay his club an acceptable fee.

United, whether it be Sir Alex Ferguson, the Glazer family or chief executive David Gill, have been adamant in their stance that the player would not be allowed to leave.

Indeed, such was the certainty with which they stated their intentions, earlier in the week Calderon conceded Ronaldo's transfer looked 'impossible'.

However, the player's comments this week will only fuel Madrid's belief that the 23-year-old is now a viable target.

"For Madrid it is an honour to know that a player like him thinks that playing at Real Madrid would be good," Calderon told Spanish newspaper AS.

"We are proud to know that he would like to be with us."

so they beleive the story to be geniune or are looking for an excuse to say how proud they would be blah......

wankers. Kenyons got a brother and his names calderon.

Are you talking about the richest man in the world?

exactly.

To think people support that club. How many assholes in the world lol

your missing the point. im not trying to diminish his achievements. I'm just standing by my point of view that although he is the most complete forward and effective player i have seen. he needs our teams service as much as we need him to be our catalyst. he is not ronaldinho, zizou, scholes, or kaka that can slot into any teams midfield and carry a team forward. this season he was more a striker than a winger in any way. his main goal was to score either by creating his chance or waitng for a pass, not to create for rooney or tevez and pass the ball. dont get me wrong he is the best player in the world and i dont want him to leave.

If he comes out and tells Real to eff off, and that going to them would be taking a step down. Would that make him an instant legend at United? Would he be on par with the Oles, the Bests and the Erics after that?

They've usually got a spare training ground( read patch of weed infested land) to flog to the council for a couple of hundred million spondolicks. their the Franco's, stealing others best players, and indulging in voodoo economics has been thei way since the thirties.

Stop kidding yourself. To say he was almost entirely dependent on our service is doing him a huge injustice.

If Ferguson can spend 20 minutes alone with Ronaldo, then he will still be playing for United next season.

Cristiano Ronaldo delivered the news that Manchester United had been dreading last night when the world's most coveted footballer publicly declared that he wanted to leave the Champions League winners to join Real Madrid.

After several weeks of conflicting messages, broken promises and cryptic interviews, Ronaldo finally put an end to his prevaricating with a statement, released through the Brazilian website Terra, making no bones about the fact that his decision was financially motivated.

Real Madrid have promised to pay him a weekly salary in excess of £200,000, earning him about £12m a year, leaving him and his agent, Jorge Mendes, to work on the best strategy for letting the football world know of his intentions.

"I want to play for Real Madrid, but only if it is true they are eager to pay me and Manchester United what they have been saying they will," said Ronaldo. "However, it does not depend on me."

That last sentence amounts to a public plea for United to relent on their previously immovable stance of refusing to entertain the idea of selling their most prized asset. The indications from Old Trafford last night, however, were that the club would not be willing to admit defeat without a considerable fight. Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to break off from a holiday in France and the chief executive, David Gill, insisted that the club would not be backed into a corner, even in the face of a world-record bid of about £78m.

"Our position on Ronaldo remains as set out last week," said Gill, referring to Ferguson's insistence that the club would rather let the player rot in the reserves than do business with a club who, in their eyes, have brazenly flouted transfer rules and etiquette.

Those comments, it emerged last night, have gone down badly with Ronaldo, who seems to believe that United's gratitude for his contribution over the past two seasons, when he has scooped just about every footballer of the year award going, should be enough to allow him to fulfil his "dream" of playing at the Bernabéu.

The 23-year-old, speaking from Portugal's Euro 2008 training camp in the Swiss city of Neuchâtel, was originally scheduled to meet the media today but that is now likely to be changed, with Ronaldo insisting that he will not discuss the matter again until after the tournament. "It is important to send a message," he said. "From now on, though, I will not talk again about this until the end of the European Championship. It is not worth asking me because I will not reply."

United's initial reaction to the Terra declaration was of shock - no one at Old Trafford had been informed of his intention to make a statement - but that quickly gave way to anger, and a crushing sense of disappointment, as they set about establishing the authenticity of the quotes. Why Ronaldo should choose a Brazilian website to declare his decision is a mystery but Terra has a good reputation and, importantly, when Mendes was asked last night whether there was anything inaccurate to correct he chose not to do so.

Ferguson's reaction is, as yet, unknown, although it is safe to assume the manager is crestfallen at the latest developments. The same will apply to United's fanbase, although many supporters had already become resigned to this happening after so many transparent attempts by Ronaldo to woo the Spanish media before changing his story when in the presence of English journalists.

The question now is whether United will stay true to their word and refuse to let player pressure affect their decision. Ferguson has spoken highly about the club's owners, the Glazers, recently and this, in many ways, will be one of the biggest challenges the Americans have faced since taking over the club three years ago. Real clearly believe they have the money to be able to finance the deal and it remains to be seen whether the Glazers can turn that down. If, however, United dig in their heels, the alternative is keeping hold of a player who has made it clear he no longer wishes to be a part of Ferguson's team, and that in turn throws up the possibility of Ronaldo refusing to return to Manchester.

Ferguson's usual policy when he believes players want to leave - as seen when Ruud van Nistelrooy was sold to Madrid in 2006 - is not to stand in their way, but Ronaldo's sale would be a devastating blow to the club's hopes of establishing themselves as the best team in Europe over the next few years. By backing down, United also stand to lose face and, for the self-styled biggest club in the world, there might be no amount of money that could make up for that.

Stop it, this is ridiculous now.

Some of you have stupendously idealistic views about how footballers should act, please, do you think any of this saga has been manipulated by Ronaldo himself?

No no no, Jorge Mendes and Calderon are responsible, and us, we have never been squeaky clean so maybe something about the pot calling the kettle...

But we are dependant on him to score those Ruud-type goals, we will not be getting a new Ruud. No-one thinks we are entirely dependent on him and everyone knows that we will move on without him, that doesn't mean we should belittle his contribution.

i never belittled his contribution. I just wanted to clear to a big amount of muppets that he depends on our service as much as we depend on a player of his finishing capabilities. He wont get that service at real. their game is slow and very predictable, we would have easily trashed them this season. all the defenders will be on him... honestly rooney and tevez draw a lot more attention than raul and guti can dream of this days. Our teams quick counters benefit a player of his mould.

errr... that's why every player has a position, Scholesy plays in midfield and controls the tempo of a game, Rio plays in defence and keeps the rearguard tight, Rooney plays up front and scores etc....What do you expect Ronaldo to do? Keep the defence tight, control the midfield, open up spaces for others and still score 42 goals in a season??

A stupid question. Is it clear that he made all these comments the last couple of days? Did he come out to make an official statement?

Agreed, the key is for Ferguson to see Ronaldo. If Ronaldo can see Fergie in the eyes and say that he is off to Madrid than he can just feck off, until that I will keep hoping.

Sir Alex Ferguson will cut short his holiday in an attempt to keep Ronaldo from leaving Old Trafford.

The Manchester United manager is in France but will fly to Switzerland where Ronaldo and the rest of the Portugal team are preparing for their Euro 2008 campaign to convince the midfielder to remain with the club.

Although many international managers would look down on the idea of a club manager interfering with theior preparations for a major tournament, Luiz Felipe Scolari is apparently willing to let his United counterpart speak to the Portugal winger.

Portugal will open Euro 2008 against Turkey in Geneva on Saturday, and according to the Daily Express, a source within the Portugal camp said: "We understand that Ferguson will be coming out to talk to Cristiano.

"Scolari is a sensitive man. He wants Ronaldo's mind to be settled so he can play his best football for Portugal. Normally he would not allow a club manager into the camp. But he cares about his players.

"If Ronaldo wants to see Ferguson he will let him, just to put an end to this."

Yesterday, Ronaldo was reported to have said that he wanted to join Real Madrid. Brazilian newspaper Terra reported Ronaldo as saying: "I would like to play for Real Madrid, but only if it is true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them. However, it does not depend on me."

United are adamant they will not let the 23-year-old Ronaldo go this summer and will hold him to his £120,000-a-week contract, which still has four years remaining.

Ferguson and Manchester United chief executive David Gill insist that, with the backing of the club's owners, the Glazer family, Ronaldo, who scored a stagering 42 goals last season, will remain a United player.

Portuguese officials tried to distance Ronaldo from the comments, insisting that he had not given any interviews, but the quotes have raised the stakes in the bitter battle between United and Real for the player.

Ronaldo said before the Champions League final last month that he had ambitions to play in Spain, prompting Ferguson to say United had to win more major trophies to keep the player at Old Trafford. Last night United confirmed the club's position.

"There is no change," they said. "It is just the same as yesterday, the day before and the day before that. Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale."

i just fear that if he wants to leave, united will sell him for some crazy money like 40 mill. or something , way less than we expect.

That's what I've been saying for a while, I'll be expecting him to leave for 35 million tops, more likely a sum between 25 and 30 million.

Stop kidding yourself. To say he was almost entirely dependent on our service is doing him a huge injustice.

What I meant by saying that he is not zizou, kaka, ronaldinho is that he is not the engine of the team. that is scholes. ronaldo can't run a midfield like them. he is the best in the world but for other reasons. ronaldo wont dominate a game with his ball possesion and start passing a la carrick. he is the best at applying the finishing move not to create the play that leads to it.
