"Although Ronaldo is indebted to Fergie for helping him develop into the best player in the world, the winger feels he has achieved all he can at United and is ready to move on."

From the Mirror that

I have to ask, if he's achieved all he can here, what more is there to achieve at Madrid?! The same European competition, a domestic league (weaker than the Premiership at present), and a domestic cup they give even less of a crap about over there. Stupid prat from the Mirror

Perhaps he's referrering to the amount of money he can earn. That seems to be all that matters in football these days :(

If he's in such a hurry, he'd be likely to retire around 30

Actually, your comments are misleading. Mainly because they are wrong. Although the duration is not a 'notice period', the terms, as agreed, will apply for that period until and unless both parties agree otherwise.

The contract can only be varied IF BOTH PARTIES AGREE. It cannot be unilaterally terminated, by either party. The only exception to this is the Webster rule which allows a player, in certain circumstances, to buy out the remainder of his contract. Those circumstances don't apply to Ronaldo.

A transfer request can be turned down by a club - there are loads of example of it happening.

Certain occupations, including footballers, are a special case under EU law I think.

What sort of words do we expect to hear today then, if any?

Im expecting ''im happy to stay at united, and look forward to next season'' 'but will next season be your last at united?' ''who knows what the future holds, i promise nothing''

If he sais this then hell be gone after next season and well go through the same shit with real, i say get rid now.

ronaldo really likes the media bitching about him , so i think this is done on purpose
hope he doesn't turn in to becks

He's an arrogant, young lad who understand his appeal on and off the pitch. He loves the media attention and he knows what he's doing by keeping quiet about the whole thing except for a few quotes which can be easily taken out of context - in fact I don't even know if the quotes we see on these bullshit websites are real!

I do think that he's already told the club he's staying though and that he's waiting on a new contract, which is ridiculous for somebody earning that much money. I would eat nothing but shit 9-5, 5 days a week if I earnt half of what he earnt in a week. I also think the 2-3 week statements were because he's hoping for a contract and I'm sure he's been in touch with the club about it. It takes weeks to come to settle on a contract, it does with every player. The reason for the wait may also be the fact we're trying to seal transfers quickly and giving Ronaldo a new contract isn't a priority at the moment as he's still contracted for another 3/4 years.

It's disrespectful to Manchester United and I love the club a hell of a lot more than I like Ronaldo. Like many people have said, he can be replaced. We've replaced many great players in the past, including players arguably better than him.

However, at the moment I think people should lay off him until something comes from the horse's mouth in the coming days/weeks. You know fine well if this had happened mid-season when he was scoring for fun you'd be defending him.

P.S. Please for the love of Jesus H Christ can you stop getting wound up at fecking rehashed news articles with stories from a close insider. Really, grown men falling for bullshit journalism is ridiculous. Newspapers are all copying stories from each other.

P.P.S That's the longest post I've ever posted I reckon :D

:nono: I'm not sure we've ever replaced a better player than him, ever...

I think it's great he wants a new contract, if he ever leaves, we can be assured of a massive fee...

Best post of the thread.

This was a very good post, and in my opinion it's pretty close to the truth.

I found it in the BBC gossip column:

But the Spanish club are prepared to pay Ronaldo £300,000-a-week after tax in a £75m deal over five years to lure him to the Bernabeu. (The Daily Express)

Cantona delivers Ronaldo verdict
Stuart Mathieson
5/ 6/2008

ERIC Cantona has told Cristiano Ronaldo: United will be great with or without you.

The Old Trafford legend is convinced United needn't worry about losing the Portuguese international - insisting they can dominate even if the double footballer of the year moves to Real Madrid this summer.

"United is one of the biggest clubs in the world," said Cantona. "They have been winning, are winning and will continue to win things generation after generation. They will always win whoever they have playing for them."

Cristiano Ronaldo: Karijeru ću nastaviti u Real Madridu
