ALL Ronaldo's future/comments/speculation

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon insists his club would never risk their relationship with Manchester United by trying to unsettle Cristiano Ronaldo.

The transfer saga of the summer to date has seen Madrid continually speak of a desire to tempt the Portuguese winger to the Spanish capital.

Calderon has made secret of his admiration for a player who has failed to express his commitment to life at Old Trafford, since the speculation started after United's UEFA Champions League glory in Moscow.

Sir Alex Ferguson, United chief executive David Gill and club owners, the Glazer family, have been united in their stance that no offer from Madrid would tempt them into parting company with Ronaldo.

And now Calderon, who only earlier this week stated his belief that Real could afford the player, has conceded that while Ronaldo is under contract, his signature remains an impossibility.

He told Marca: "(Ronaldo) is an impossible signing because his club don't want to sell him. We can't do anything if the club that owns him don't want to sell.

"We would never (approach a player under contract) as this is not the policy of Real Madrid, and especially not with a club who we are such good friends with."

Phew, he's staying then. :nervous:

Every time I see tis thread I think my blood pressure increases. I really should avoid it but Ronaldo to Madrid speculation is clearly acting like a drug that is keeping the entire cafe occupied.

Yes.

He wasn't really a world class star until the 2006 World Cup. There were some rumours linking him with Real that time, but they were more busy trying to sort out Robben and Kaka deals that Calderon promised to conclude plus Capello didn't really like the idea of brining Ronaldo when their entire defence was falling apart. There weren't even many rumours linking him with Madrid last year because they, as always, were busy trying to sign Kaka once again. They came back after Ronaldo this season and it will probably be their first serious attempt at luring him to Bernabeu.

Real Madrid could and would have signed him at any point over the last 2 or 3 years, if he'd made a serious effort to engineer a move. The Robben and Kaka "deals" (they never signed Kaka) wouldn't have been an issue.

They came closest to doing so after the WC in 2006 but they've been sniffing round him for years.

Neither they signed Robben at the time, although they were trying very hard to get them tied up because Calderon used their names in his campaign, so they eventually didn't have time for Ronaldo's pursuit. Plus as I said, Capello didn't want him at all, although that wouldn't have been much of a problem at a joke of a club that Madrid are.

I'm not so sure about the WC2006 thing, it was probably blown out of proportion in media...

Gratitude for what? Using United as a some sort of a bridge from Sporting Lisbon to Real Madrid? It is not like he could have done anything different in 2003, we were the only ones to have matched Sporting's asking price. And this Summer is probably his first serious opportunity to join Madrid. If he fecks us over now, I won't feel much of a gratitude towards him, frankly.

I won't hate him, but I won't call him a legend or wish him further successes.

He was instrumental in dragging us out of the three-year slump and firing us to back to back titles including a European cup / League double. I'll remember that in years to come no matter what he does this Summer.

As far as his future success goes - its doubtful he will have as much chance at the Real circus or whereever he ends up after that.

Ronaldo will suffer more than United

Ronaldo to mention his love for Redcafe tomorrow in the press conference. You've heard it here first.

Don't ever call me a muppet, mate. Ever

never will think of you as one mate....never thought anything could bring me down after the season we had...but this Ronaldo bollox sure has left me a bit worried....I still think this is all about him wanting a much better contract....which I think he has earned....

lets hope common sense prevails all round....

As I've said, he will probably end up at Benfica within 3 years if he leaves. You cannot really thrive as a player if you play for an unstable team like Real.

The day Ronaldo leaves we would find another star to take the #7 and become the star player, like it always has been.

If Ronaldo goes to Real, he'll have more money and more of the attention he craves so much. But I bet you if you ask him later in his career, he'll say he wished he'd stayed at United. We'll see.

Even if Ronaldo does want to leave,i think he'll go for 40-50 million pounds and not the 100 million bollocks being sprouted around.

No way real will pay that much, that was just to capture the headlines, sensationalize it and make ronaldo want to come, once he says that knowing united very well,we'll probably be lucky to milk 60 million out of him.

A 29 year old Zidane went for €76m so we should be expecting to get at least £70m with the potential he still has never mind the fact he is already the best player in the world.

So he is definitely announcing something tomorrow, yes?!

This is killing me, I'm trying to revise as well.

Like I said many times before, this is all so fecking predictabel. Heres my prediction for his next press conference

"Now I concentrate on Portugal and Euro championship. After that I decide my future"

The media go wild with the uncertainty, continue make up bollocks every two hours and get innumerable hits on their web sites and sell many many papers. And this thread marches on to the 1000 page mark.

Spot on. And, equals me failing exams.

If he does leave, life will move on, United will move on. Ronaldo will live to regret moving like so many other players. Will he leave? The more this drags on, the more I think he is.

I don't buy that he wants to play for real now.

If he was gonna go he'd have gone after the rooney world cup incident.

Why would he go now? People were burning effigies of him yet he chose to stay.

But he didn't because all along he has wanted to go play for the team his mum, his godfather, his agent and his Uncle Tom Cobley and all have been dreaming of him joining since he conducted his first step-over at the age of six months

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/feelfootball/article/351/

hmmmmm

:nervous:dreaming about a six month old boy..really?. Well i'm sure his agent was even present at the birth....he was probably the doctor.. Bullshit article.

this thread will be remembered as the epic ronaldo will he or wont he thread of summer 2008

Lets consider the facts -

1. Ronaldo could have easily joined Real a couple of seasons ago after the world cup Rooney incident. The whole of England and even a lot of United fans were against him. But he didn't ask for a transfer even though any other continental player in the same situation would have.

2. He could have asked for a transfer to Real at the end of last season too. But he didn't - because United were negotiating a new contract. He could have not signed that contract, forced United to sell him at a lower price last season than his value and pocketed a hefty joining bonus from Real.

3. The likes of Rio, Terry, Scheva, Ballack, Kaka, Henry are reportedly being paid more than him.

For those who are questioning why he doesn't end the speculation by saying he will be staying at United, he has already stated that several times over the last few weeks. Alternatively, if he wants a transfer, he could have easily made a statement to that effect too. IMO, the only possible thing to be gained by this saga via the media interviews is to try and force United into offering him a contract on par with the top earners in the world.

Real are reportedly willing to double his current wages, are one of the greatest clubs in the world and his dream club. If United don't offer the best wages to arguably the best player in the world, why should Ronnie be slated?

That post makes the most sense to me.

The Ronaldo saga shows how the media can influence the mindset of one and all. He has stated something very clearly, i.e he wants to stay at MU for now and he can not predict the future. The second half of the statement is said keeping wisdom in mind and not his supposed move to Real. He has been long enough here to know that no player can guarantee himself an entire career. He replaced a nailed on legend. He has seen his best mate shown the doors to Madrid last summer. His former record-breaking team-mate van Nistelrooy is another high-profile exit.

For all the fan-talk of Giggs, Scholes and Gary Neville, football was rarely a Utopian sport injected with morality and ethics. Look at fans wishing death and failure on remotely dislikable clubs let alone hardcore rivals. The above three are exceptions. The funny aspect is, when someone like a Shearer, Gascoigne, Lucas Neil, Le Tissier, Southgate, etc reject high-profile moves suddenly the debate shifts from loyalty to ambition. Look at Wes Brown and how long he held out to squeeze more cash. Or Roy Keane. Or for that matter, would any of the Nevilles, Scholeses and Giggses stayed with menial wages had United not been at the pinnacle of both the trophy and (subsequent) financial charts? I'd highly doubt so. No one expects them to reject higher paying jobs in real life, why is football any different?

I hope fans take a stance as to either like a player whenever he's at the club and wish him the very best once he's moved on irrespective of the future club/manner, or do not like players at all (a highly unnatural tendency). A few weeks ago, he was the pin up boy, the most blessed footballing article of MU fans. It only takes a few weeks and some media twists and turns to change the masses' opinion.

Deriving from all that Ronaldo has said until now, if you look at mind over matter, it is evident that he wants to stay at the club. Plus, everyone will forget all the media brainwash once he starts banging them in next season onwards.

So he's staying then? Great.

We should loan him out to Sunderland. I personally believe Keano could use a player of Ronaldo qualities.

If things keep dragging on it will probably rival the legendary Teveth thread

Teveth thread is overrated.. was full of Kermit smilies and teveth smilies.

This here is much, much more dramatic.

Barcelona to join race for Cristiano Ronaldo
By Mark Ogden and Richard Morgan
Last Updated: 9:01pm BST 04/06/2008

Manchester United could be forced to repel the advances of Spain's two biggest clubs in the battle to hold onto Cristiano Ronaldo with Barcelona preparing to rival Real Madrid in the race to sign the Portuguese forward.

Ronaldo, currently preparing for Portugal's Euro 2008 opener against Turkey on Saturday, has been at the centre of a tug-of-war between United and Real in recent weeks, with the Spanish champions making no secret of their desire to tempt the 23-year-old from Old Trafford.

But boardroom tensions at Barcelona could result in the Catalan giants fighting it out with Real for Ronaldo if the club's former vice-president, Sandro Rosell, succeeds in his bid to unseat the president, Joan Laporta, in a vote of confidence amongst Barca's members.

Laporta and Rosell worked together to win the presidency in 2003 and the two men drove the club's ultimately unsuccessful attempts to sign David Beckham from United, who accepted a £25m bid from Barca before selling the midfielder to Real.

Rosell and Laporta went on to split acrimoniously, but reports in Spain suggest that Rosell, a former Nike executive, is planning to spark a battle for the Barcelona presidency this summer, with an audacious plan to sign Ronaldo central to his bid.

With Ronaldo positioned as their flagship footballer, it is understood that Nike would prefer him to move to Barcelona rather than adidas-sponsored Real, should he leave United.
