ALL Ronaldo's future/comments/speculation

Ronaldo and Rooney's attitude on the pitch are actually quite similar. Both hate losing and are driven to succeed. Both can be petulant and we'd hate both of them if they didn't play for United. Biggest difference is Rooney is English and for him it doesn't get better than Manchester United.

Good call in my view.

Tempted as far as saying 'can I go' almost exclusively in private - until he realised his new lover was false.

We'd shown we didn't really love him enough (no new contract) - his new paramour promised him both the earth and that his ex would be happy.
That's when his ex's pa stepped in and threatened him with Glasgy handshake.

I don't know about viva ronaldo. Depends what happens, how he plays and how the crowd reacts, as he kept reminding us this summer, no one knows the future.

Aye, very true. It is obvious that when Ronaldo was growing up, his Real Madrid was my United.

I don't give a shit where it is. I'm not going to waste time looking through that thread for certain comments that may or may not be there.

And your smart 'bhoy' comment is quite weak in trying to take the piss as I asked the admins to change my username. I did create the username more than 3 years ago when I did quite like Celtic and thought it may have been possible to support 2 teams. Which, since then, I have thought otherwise.
You'll always be a bhoy to me, bhoy.

When you're on the edge of your seat, hungry for information and you're fed crumbs....you tend to disect every letter of every word and twist it to your liking (or hating). That's what the media has done too and we've lapped it up. Who knows still, what the truth is.
He's still a cnut though. Probably.

Well, there's the truth and there's the "truth" - I doubt we'll ever know the truth, though we might hear a few versions of it after the various participants retire.

Having watched the story play out in Spanish, Portuguese and English over the last few weeks it's been interesting to see how fast a story can build momentum as it bounced between one tabloid and another, getting retranslated and respun as it moved. There were even occasions when AS and Marca got unfairly misreported - an hilarious concept gven their role in the affair.

It's been interesting as well to see how little correlation there is between seemingly direct quotes, the words actually said, and the timing and context of the remarks. Eh, well it interested me :D

Do any of these mercanaries 'deserve our support' anymore.

I nearly gave it up a couple of seasons ago until I reluctantly accepted that they're all cnuts and it's now all about entertainment and having the best players.

Like a lemming I renewed and to be honest I want to see the slave boy play again. Yes I'll sing Viva Ronaldo.

I've lost my morals I'm afraid.

Interested mne too. It's been an education in how the media works and its revealed the innards of many of the posters on here. I've totally enjoyed it. Real football begins in a couple of days now so I guess the summer entertainment will be over.

Could you please tuck mine back in - I'm supposed to be at Wembley on Sunday.

It has been interesting. Can't believe how much hype this generated though in the media though, the 24/7 coverage, regurgigated headlines. Don't know if that's a reflection of society today or the average football fan. Journos are powerful though. But we can't blame it all on the journos being cnuts. The only reason they get away with it is because people demand it which would mean we're the cnuts in the first place. So Ronaldo is a cnut, journos are cnuts and we're all cnuts.

Slightly off topic but found this old article and it interested me, it is quotes from Diarra and was two years ago when he wanted to go to Real Madrid but Lyon refused to sell him:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/africa/4799091.stm

So he clearly was very desperate to go, but whats funny is Madrid were talking about him in a swap deal with Ronaldo (not that we want or need Diarra) so it just goes to show, they take players, chew them and spit them out

I'd certainly go along with the idea of the celebrity cult in papers being fuelled by the readers. You shouldn't pry into Diana's life they cry, as they greedily devour every column inch on her on which they can lay their hands. Even better for the papers, they pay for the privilege.

Now we have people who are famous for being talentless and on a 'reality TV show' (BBn) - the readers just demand more it seems.

You're probably right that transfer gossip runs on a related system - my wife calls sport "men's soap opera".

some additional quotes

And Fergie blasted the belief that because Ronaldo was forced to stay, he would not be able to give his all this coming season.

He said: “After the meeting I had with Cristiano, when I explained the situation and what we expect of players from Manchester United, he’s already said he’s delighted to be back here, so to say that he’s here reluctantly is not the case.

“When we had the meeting the lad quickly agreed with me, so I have no issues whatsoever with him.

“He’ll be OK, he’ll do his best, he’ll be a great player this season because he’s still improving. He’ll be absolutely fantastic for us.

“Everyone said last season that he wouldn’t score more than the 23 goals he scored in the previous campaign. I don’t think anyone thought he could do better than that and I said he would.

“I expected him to improve and I expect him to improve again this season. Of course, we’re at a different level — 42 goals against 23 goals is completely different — so if he gets to 41 goals I think we’ll forgive him.”

Ronaldo will now concentrate on his rehabilitation following his ankle operation in a bid to be back terrorising opponents again by the beginning of October.

He drove into Carrington at 8.50am yesterday and was immediately assessed by the United medical team.

Ferguson added: “We’re very pleased with the progress. We’ll be putting him on a programme now for the next stage.

“The specialist said yesterday that he’s delighted with Cristiano’s progress. He’s exactly in the situation, the position, the surgeon thought he’d be.

“We will now take it to the next stage. It will be a month of rehabilitation and then he should be in full training.”

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has ruled out 'any possibility' of Robinho leaving the Spanish champions for Chelsea.

Robinho's agent has outlined his client's desire to move to Stamford Bridge, but Calderon is adamant the 24-year-old will be going nowhere.

"Definitely he (Robinho) is going to stay with us. The coach (Bernd Schuster) has said he wants him in our team," Calderon told Radio Five Live.

"We don't see any possibility of him leaving Real Madrid.

"We know Chelsea have been interested in signing him. He's one of the best players we have got in our team - we need him for the next season."

go on chelsea . get a car with his name ready
contact his mother if you have to ..

Ronaldo's cae reminds me of a United star forward in the 1950s, Charlie Mitten (or somethig like that). Played for Busby's earlier pre-Babes (team of Johnny Carey, Jack Rowley, Stan Pearson and was a star. During the off-season, he toured with United to SOuth America. Never came back as he was offered a lot more wages by a South American club. His case was that he never again played for United again since Busby never forgave him...

By the way, just remembered that the SOuth American club was a Colombian club in Bogota by the name of Santa Fe. Charlie was called "Bogotan Bandit" for his dazzling displys

No way Madrid will let Robinho go, Calderon would look even more stupid than he does now.

I say Robinho stays and ends up getting the pay rise that he wanted in the first place, eventually.

:nono:

Chelsea are mere specatators of this soap opera. The problem lies betwen the club and the player.

But Real should sell and be honoured to particpate in the transfer of the week.

There seems to be a lot of self-righteous posters in here who think they know more of what's good for the club than the people in charge. If Sir Alex thinks that Ronaldo staying for the club is what's best, and is willing to forgive the lad for his actions, I don't understand why club supporters (even those who claim to have supported the club since who knows when) can't support the club for its decisions. At the end of the day, we got the world's best player still playing for us which greatly increases our chances for winning more trophies, so I think a lot of the posters here need to really (really) lighten up.

I have a feeling he will extend his stay.. this year will be a year of persuading.

I woke up this morning in an optimistic mood, is it worth getting right behind the lad and giving him our full support?

After all, majority of fans WILL be cheering him & singing his name a few games into the season, regardless of what this motherfecker has or hasn't done since becoming a Champions League medal winner.

When he steps out onto the pitch in six to eight weeks time, its going to be one of the key moments he remembers about being a Manchester United player. I wonder what type of reaction he's going to receive, probably mixed, should we listen to Fergie & give him our full support in the hope that he feels closer to the club, or do we slap him in the face & hope he learns right from wrong?

Meanwhile over in the Spanish press, along with the usual speculation on secret negotiations, Calderon says he'll talk about Cristiano on Monday. Oh, joy.

 Ah, now, this should be fun. What's he going to say? Maybe in his desperation to preserve his skin, he'll put the blame for it all on Ronaldo, after all, Madrid are just 'spectators'. No doubt he'll come up with some shite that Marca, AS and our own dearly treasured ragbags will make hay from. This'll be the best, yet, can't wait! - It'll be a masterclass in how to win friends and influence people, especially ours. What a feckin' wanker this guy is!

You`re completely missing the point here mate. We`re all still supporting the club. I probably even support the idea of keeping him, we all know SAF always does what`s best for the club, not himself or Ronaldo.

We can still think he`s a cnut though, and I can still dislike him. On some level I`d want him out of the club, cause he`s not a person I like, on another level I see what he contributes to the team and know that short term we`d not be as good a team without him. That`s not being self-righteous, or not thinking we know what the club does, it`s just having an opinion on one single person.

You're really being quite self-righteous yourself there mate.

As Ruben said, everyone is entitled to their personal opinion about a player. It just so happens that some of us are not so enamoured by Ronaldo's conduct. Deal with it.

Football's a fickle game mate. Players are loved or despised by thousands based on no more than what shirt they're wearing.

Ronaldo's no more or less imune than anyone else, and he's old enough to be aware of his actions. If he'd engaged his brain and grown a pair before acting out, he could have sat there having made his intentions clear to the club, without anyone thinking any less of him.

He didn't. Obviously different people will see it in a different way, but you can't blame football fans for acting like football fans.

Wise words.

I just try to present the voice of reason. I know it falls upon deaf ears very largely.

Sigh...

Nice one Ruben. You've captured alot of our feelings (certainly mine) with your very succinct summary.
