Would that be Margaret Thatcher, saviour of the United Kingdom economy and destroyer of the Soviet 'Matrix' socialist experiment?

Nope - Margaret Thatcher - ruiner of British industry - destroyer of social programmes and welfare - who stripped workers of much of their protection and gave our oil profits to her rich friends to fund the entrepreneurial exercises that would regenerate the overall economy (never happened).

So ThatOldRedMagic made the 20000th post without even realising it!

Next milestone, 2 million views!

Is the Webster ruling not age related?

See...

For those younger than 28 when they signed their contract, they must be three years into their deal - the 28 and overs can use it after just two years.

Therefore as he is one year into a 5 year contract, he would have to remain with us for another 2 years without signing any extension, for him to be in a position to do this.

Do any of these mercanaries 'deserve our support' anymore.

I nearly gave it up a couple of seasons ago until I reluctantly accepted that they're all cnuts and it's now all about entertainment and having the best players.

Like a lemming I renewed and to be honest I want to see the slave boy play again. Yes I'll sing Viva Ronaldo.

I've lost my morals I'm afraid.

Are you okay HM?

after having the 2nd best season in the club's history, this saga left a sour taste with United fans, hope we dont have to experience such torried summer again.
on a side note Calderon told Nadal after Wimbledon : we have already signed him.:lol::lol::lol:

So lets spice this up abit.

Surely the Glazers deserve A HUGE AMOUNT OF CREDIT for backing SAF to the hilt on this.

Despite the all the accusations from all the boo boys about 'the debt', despite the fact that we could have sold The cnut and bought two top class players and still made a handsome profit with the change, despite all that, it seems they are willing to to what SAF considers best for the club.

Would love to hear what Ralph and his fellow boo boys have to say!

havent they had enough credit....?

ill get my coat.

Who said cnuts can't be legends and only great players can be legends? Roy Keane was a cnut, Ole wasn't a great player, but both were bigger legends than Ronaldo and will remain to be. Mark my words, Ronaldo will never be a united legend despite what you fanboys say.

the thing is, though, if there are enough fanboys, he will be a legend.

you forget, history is written by the victor, and the victor is whoever has the most men on the field at the end.

So we've gone over the 20k with a merge - no celebratory post for BR then.
Not important. The threads were long due to be merged. Wibs and Sults just chose a bad time to do it. It was obvious that those two threads would eventually become little mini-me Ronaldo threads.
There is still much speculation regarding our golden boy as to how fans will accept him though and I'm feeling more and more that it is going to be up to us fans to protect him from the Sun's and the Mirror's of this world.
Be aware that many papers now are looking into here to get a feeling for the fans mood and will reflect most of the negative things that we come up with in here while ignoring the positive.
It's quite unbelievable that this thread is still getting over 25,000 views a day. When I googled my username I found it stuck in reports in about 20 different languages and the cafe was being quoted in as many countries as well as in many of our own English papers.
I for one will bite the bullet and support our Ron against the wolves, whatever it takes, even if in the back of my mind I am not completely happy with it.

Yes, if you're under a certain age (28 I think) you have to serve 3 years of your contract, if you're over it you only have to serve 2 years.

So, basically Ronaldo can walk out of United in 2 seasons for around 12 million pounds with 2 years remaining on his contract.

No wonder SAF is already making noises about a new contract.

It would be one of our biggest challenges in the coming season. To convince Ronaldo that his future is with Man Utd. If he fails to convince him, repercussions might occur with players like Nani or Anderson indirectly, since Nani and Anderson are brought in and are not traditionally English. So extra efforts to make them "feel" belonged to Old Trafford is needed.

SAF can't do it without the matchgoing fans help. I know for a fact that many United fans in Manc are still upset with the boy although many are now resigned to the fact that they have to support him now that he is once again a part of our team. No sense cutting off the nose to spite the face as it were.

All United legends carry some baggage in one way or the other and Ronaldo has his own share. Cantona and Keane weren't great lovers of United before we signed them. Cantona, Keane and Schmeichel aint cnuts but had their own level of arrogance whilst Ince and Beckham were complete tossers.

Ronaldo has all the makings of a legend if he continues at United for next three years or so he is sure to attain the legendary status. At the end of the day what really matters is the form they deliver on the pitch

Though (in theory) the 'big clubs' have reportedly agreed not to buy players from each other using a Webster-ruling buyout.

It does, however, show how important it was to Utd that Ronaldo had signed a new extended contract recently.

Yes - this ruling is ridiculous it's going to lead either to enormous wages for players or contracts being renegotiated every year.

Not if he signs a new contract, which I am sure he will do if United offer him more wages

Ronaldo has enough money (or Madrid might fund him) to break out of the contract and seemingly go on a Bosman to Real.

It's better to get two more good seasons out of Ronaldo and hope for the best

So you're saying that, if he signs a new contract this summer, following the contract he signed a year ago, contracts won't be renegotiated every year?

I am saying that as a 23 year old, if he signs a new contract this summer, he will be at United three more years before he can invoke the Webster ruling

So he is back now. Forget the past month or so. Lets get back to what matters. I liked the welcome our players gave him in the dressing room. Thats one of the reasons our team spirit is so good. Ronaldo has been foolish but he is fighting for our cause again. Even Slaves can become legends, you know.

Well there're 2 years left anyway, if you want to renegotiate every time there're 2 years left you'll be doing another one in a year.

That makes no sense, ummmmm if he signs a 4 or 5 year contract, thus a new contract it would start over, meaning it would take three years to invoke the ruling; that's not my point either, his play last year probably deserves a raise

If he has a shit season will we give him less money?

It's more to do with the fact that we don't want any club to cherry pick our best players, unless we're willing to sell. It doesn't look good for a club of United's stature. The brand is a bit of myth, as I've said countless times in this thread. Besides, he's not the first marketable player United have created, nor will he be the last.

Just look at Fabio, Rafael and Anderson...especially Anderson, I'm pretty sure he will get really marketable as well.

players like Ronaldo are pure gold...once in a generation...players like this come along...a long contract is no risk....he still has at least 8 great years ahead of him....the lad looks after himself and is a dedicated professional.....look how long Figo was at the top of his game...

Ronaldo Rolls in to Old Trafford

Cristiano Ronaldo has bought himself a $680,000 Rolls Royce Phantom convertible to celebrate his decision to stay on at Manchester United for another season. "The car will be the flashiest at United’s training ground. Ronaldo will be going one better than Rio Ferdinand’s Bentley. He loves his cars and wanted something new for the start of the season," The Sun quoted a source, as saying. Ronaldo already owns an Aston Martin, a BMW 6 Series and a Ferrari. The Phantom will replace his $280,000 Bentley Continental. He ordered it through an elite car firm called Liquid 45 and gave instructions for it to be "fully loaded," a trade term for all the added extras. Flash cars are nothing new to soccer stars but Ronaldo has a reason to celebrate after deciding to stay put at Old Trafford for another year at least.
