Would that be Margaret Thatcher, saviour of the United Kingdom economy and destroyer of the Soviet 'Matrix' socialist experiment?
Is the Webster ruling not age related?
For those younger than 28 when they signed their contract, they must be three years into their deal - the 28 and overs can use it after just two years.
Therefore as he is one year into a 5 year contract, he would have to remain with us for another 2 years without signing any extension, for him to be in a position to do this.
Do any of these mercanaries 'deserve our support' anymore.
I nearly gave it up a couple of seasons ago until I reluctantly accepted that they're all cnuts and it's now all about entertainment and having the best players.
Like a lemming I renewed and to be honest I want to see the slave boy play again. Yes I'll sing Viva Ronaldo.
I've lost my morals I'm afraid.
So ThatOldRedMagic made the 20000th post without even realising it!
Next milestone, 2 million views!
It seemed to happen just now as I was working through the thread. That's because I merged a thread this morning.

So lets spice this up abit.
Surely the Glazers deserve A HUGE AMOUNT OF CREDIT for backing SAF to the hilt on this.
Despite the all the accusations from all the boo boys about 'the debt', despite the fact that we could have sold The cnut and bought two top class players and still made a handsome profit with the change, despite all that, it seems they are willing to to what SAF considers best for the club.
Would love to hear what Ralph and his fellow boo boys have to say!
Who said cnuts can't be legends and only great players can be legends? Roy Keane was a cnut, Ole wasn't a great player, but both were bigger legends than Ronaldo and will remain to be. Mark my words, Ronaldo will never be a united legend despite what you fanboys say.
Not important. The threads were long due to be merged. Wibs and Sults just chose a bad time to do it. It was obvious that those two threads would eventually become little mini-me Ronaldo threads. So we've gone over the 20k with a merge - no celebratory post for BR then.
Yes, if you're under a certain age (28 I think) you have to serve 3 years of your contract, if you're over it you only have to serve 2 years.
So, basically Ronaldo can walk out of United in 2 seasons for around 12 million pounds with 2 years remaining on his contract.
No wonder SAF is already making noises about a new contract.
SAF can't do it without the matchgoing fans help. I know for a fact that many United fans in Manc are still upset with the boy although many are now resigned to the fact that they have to support him now that he is once again a part of our team. No sense cutting off the nose to spite the face as it were.It would be one of our biggest challenges in the coming season. To convince Ronaldo that his future is with Man Utd. If he fails to convince him, repercussions might occur with players like Nani or Anderson indirectly, since Nani and Anderson are brought in and are not traditionally English. So extra efforts to make them "feel" belonged to Old Trafford is needed.
Are you lot not fed up of jabbering on about this yet?

Yes - this ruling is ridiculous it's going to lead either to enormous wages for players or contracts being renegotiated every year.

Not if he signs a new contract, which I am sure he will do if United offer him more wages
So you're saying that, if he signs a new contract this summer, following the contract he signed a year ago, contracts won't be renegotiated every year?
That does not make sense.
I am saying that as a 23 year old, if he signs a new contract this summer, he will be at United three more years before he can invoke the Webster ruling
None of that makes sense
Well there're 2 years left anyway, if you want to renegotiate every time there're 2 years left you'll be doing another one in a year.
That makes no sense, ummmmm if he signs a 4 or 5 year contract, thus a new contract it would start over, meaning it would take three years to invoke the ruling; that's not my point either, his play last year probably deserves a raise
If he has a shit season will we give him less money?
It's more to do with the fact that we don't want any club to cherry pick our best players, unless we're willing to sell. It doesn't look good for a club of United's stature. The brand is a bit of myth, as I've said countless times in this thread. Besides, he's not the first marketable player United have created, nor will he be the last.
Just look at Fabio, Rafael and Anderson...especially Anderson, I'm pretty sure he will get really marketable as well.
