ALL Ronaldo's future/comments/speculation

As far as I can see he thought Madrid wanted him, believed they would pay United mega bucks to get him and thought United would probably accept those mega bucks ........... I am pretty sure most people would have acted the same or a lot worse than Ronaldo in similar circumstances.

Spot on.

Hehe. That's a good analogy.

The thing is with this article is that Custis has hit the nail on the head so many times to the extent that it's almost disturbing. It worries me that he has written something very similar to what i would have done.

Ah! So you're as big a cnut as he is?

Ramon Calderon's credibility lies in tatters after Cristiano Ronaldo summer-saga ends

When Sir Alex Ferguson attacked Real Madrid with talk of General Franco, and Carlos Queiroz likened the Spaniards' pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo to an Iberian border dispute, a clearly stung Ramon Calderon took a step back from the soap opera that had begun to dominate the summer.

It was still June and Real's president realised he might have overplayed his hand, succeeding only in angering the club with whom he would have to deal, risking shattering the dreams of fans.

Covering his back, he insisted that "not signing Ronaldo would not be a failure". He fooled nobody then and fewer still are under any illusions now: a failure is exactly what it is.

Ronaldo's decision to stay at Manchester United is a massive blow that even the implicit opportunity to sign him in the future cannot soften. Not so much for coach Bernd Schuster nor for the players, but for Calderon himself, who will now desperately scramble for a big name. After all, the one thing that matters more to him than anything else is at stake: his own survival.

Right now, having spent a bullish summer briefing that Ronaldo was in the bag, the credibility of Real's president lies in tatters. All the more so because this is a depressingly familiar scene.

Calderon won Madrid's controversial presidential elections with just over 8,000 votes – of 80,000 members. He has embarked on a rather desperate search for legitimacy ever since. Like a politician in mid-campaign, he has endlessly visited supporters' clubs, trying to win over fans. Madrid may have won two successive league titles but Calderon has not won the fans.

I'm loving all this!

This is why I wouldn't want United to be run by the fans.

If you got a good reason for sacking someone, its all good and you dont have to regret anything. But a person cant be sacked for being a cnut, some people are, but may very well be a good employee.

I wouldn't sack anyone for being a cnut.

I would sack them if I found out they were speaking to a rival.

You could probably sue for breach of contract, if you put in something in the contract. It's just that most employers don't bother, doesn't mean they always won't.

Why do you think Ronaldo wouldn't put in a transfer request?

Because I believe he never wanted to fall out with Fergie or the club ........ asking for transfer has nothing to do with beach of contract

Ronaldo - helped us win the league 2 years in a row, top scorer last season, helped us win the CL, i know it was a team effort, but ronaldo played a BIG part! I will always respect him for that, obviously the likes of scholes, giggs, neville are in another class in terms of respect, but they're a different story, they're fans of the club, born and bred in manchester (ok not giggs but you know what i mean). Its different for Ronaldo. Yes he didnt handle the transfer situation very well, but i mean FFS, some people here almost want to lynch him!

Get over yourselves you self-righteous cnuts, the situation is over now, atleast for another year, stop all this ronaldo bashing, and look forward to the coming season.

Absolutely spot on!

Not much else to say, except that I never thought I'd see the day when an article in the Sun is supposedly hitting the mark... An alarm bell should ring when you find yourself agreeing with one of the worst rags in the shitty world of tabloids.

I'd say you are very naive.

When a player hands in a transfer request, he stands to lose out financially, compared to when a player gets sold without having handed one in.

THAT I believe is the reason Ronaldo didn't.

thats a loyality issue, but if your worker was hard to replace, would you still sack him because you felt hurt by his inloyalty against you? Probably your guy would get a brand new job at your rival if you fired him anyway.

the trouble is the shitty world of the sun is bought by enough people to make it the biggest selling newspaper in the uk.

I would sack him out of principle.

I am naive? do you for one moment not think Madrid could have easily compensated Ronaldo for that!

Yep.

While the club can't actually punish players financially for handing in transfer requests, basically it means the player wants to tear up the contract. So he needs to pay for the privilege.

They probably would. If they could.

A transfer would obviously have stretched Real financnially, and you are probably talking about 10% on top of that.

Maybe. Signing fees are quite big though, could easily have added another 5-10% to the transfer fee.

And a transfer request could have reduced it by much more than that also his wages in spain would not have incurred the same tax penalties as the uk.

Well, they have page 3 after all. Infotainment is doing quite well across the globe, doesn't make it any less annoying though.
