it doesn't matter because he'll leave within the next three summers. this one, 09 or 2010. so he's going to go at somepoint. i think a lot of us have just resigned to that fact and are looking forward to supporting the team as a whole, and not just hung up on one player.

I doesn't matter if he leaves now or in 2010? That's plain nonsense.

I'd prefer Casillas to Ramos.

ramos is younger and will be the premier defender of his generation. he's already the best RB in the world IMO all at the age of 22/23 and a big fecker at that too.

casillas, while brilliant shot stopper, would be like reina when it came to crosses, if not worse and punches balls back much too often for my liking. cech/buffon are at a different level to casillas IMO.

i love robben, but he's injury prone so no thankyou. robinho, dislike his attitude in terms of team play, sneijder is untouchable (would be my first choice if a player were to be included in the deal however), that leaves ramos.

So the feeling around the caf is that he is leaving?

Not for me, but I think it's gone half and half now (on the caf). Let's hope he makes his 'annoucement' sooner rather than later.

breaking news! ronaldo's uncles dog was apparently quoted as saying he will definatly sign for madrid.

If his announcement is negative towards United, then its completely disrespectful to Sir Alex, and we shouldn't tolerate that.

He's staying though.

CRISTIANO RONALDO has told friends: “If I don’t leave Manchester United now, I certainly will in a year.”

The Portugal winger and his agent Jorge Mendes are now considering their get-out strategy.

Ronaldo believes that having now won the Champions League and Premier League double it is the right time to chase his dream of joining Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old may have to concede staying at Old Trafford for one more season.

But it seems inevitable that he will leave sooner rather than later.

His agent is in this morning's Guardian spouting off that he is on his way according the the preivew on SSN just now.

Ronaldo ready to realise his 'dream' move to MadridDaniel Taylor The Guardian, Wednesday June 4 2008 Article historyCristiano Ronaldo appears to have made up his mind to leave Manchester United and fulfil his "dream" of joining Real Madrid. The Portugal international has informed his agent, Jorge Mendes, that he wants to play in Spain and his decision has already been outlined to Madrid, encouraging them to step up their attempts to prise him from Old Trafford.

Ronaldo is being offered a salary in the region of £150,000 a week after tax and has told his closest associates that the financial rewards, as well as the opportunity to play for a club of Madrid's prestige, are too good to turn down.

The double footballer of the year had stated on Saturday night that he would announce his decision "in two or three days" but journalists arriving at Portugal's Euro 2008 training base yesterday were informed that he would not speak to the media until Friday at the earliest. Instead, one of his associates briefed the Portuguese journalists that Ronaldo, as suspected, was hoping United would relent on their refusal to entertain the idea of negotiating a world-record transfer.

Relations between the two clubs have been severely strained and the latest developments will cause intense dismay to Sir Alex Ferguson, who has been increasingly vocal in his criticism of Madrid. There is also a growing sense of foreboding about Ronaldo's motives, specifically the manner in which he has repeatedly adapted his line in a string of media interviews.

Ferguson had wanted the player to hold a press conference, or, at the very least, put out a statement, committing himself to the club, but Ronaldo has made it clear he plans to do nothing of the kind.

Mendes is believed to be in almost daily contact with Madrid and looking at ways to soften United's resistance. Whether that is possible remains to be seen as United have threatened to report the Spanish champions to Fifa and Ferguson has said he would rather let Ronaldo rot in the reserves than sanction the deal.

Contrary to reports, Ferguson has no plans to fly to Portugal, preferring to go on holiday to France and leave the matter to his chief executive, David Gill.

At the same time, Gill will try to convince Aaron Ramsey, the 17-year-old Cardiff City midfielder, to choose United ahead of Arsenal after both clubs yesterday had £5m offers accepted.

United were the first to meet Cardiff's requirements and issued a statement describing themselves as "delighted" to have agreed the deal only for it to emerge that Arsenal had matched their offer. Liverpool had also bid £5m but Cardiff turned them down because of the way the deal was structured. "We can confirm that the club has received formal bids from three Premier League teams for Aaron Ramsey," a statement from Cardiff read. "One of these is Manchester United though at this stage we can confirm that no deal has been done."

The Independent.........not looking good

Ronaldo sets the scene to express Real intention

</EM>
By Ian Herbert
Wednesday, 4 June 2008

The much-awaited "decision" Cristiano Ronaldo has promised on his Manchester United future is now unlikely to come before Friday – two days later than promised – but there was an increasing sense within the Portuguese national squad's training camp in Switzerland last night that he might be ready to declare a desire to leave Old Trafford for Real Madrid.

Ronaldo's current propensity for speaking only to Spanish journalists in Switzerland has been a growing source of resentment for the press entourage from his own country, now based 80 miles from Geneva, and his repeated failure to pledge his future to United has also been accompanied by some bizarre behaviour where Real are concerned.
When a Spanish journalist upstaged a press conference last week at the squad's base at Viseu, northern Portugal, by presenting the player with a Real team poster and telling him: "I am here to say one thing: 'We want you with us,'" an employee of the Portuguese Football Federation tried to intervene. Ronaldo waved away the official's protestations and insisted on receiving the poster. "It's a present for me. I want it," he said.
Though Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United manager, insisted in an interview with Sir David Frost broadcast last night that he was "confident, very confident" of keeping the player, there are unsubstantiated reports circulating in Spain that the Real president, Ramon Calderon, is ready to embark on a €100m (£78m) project to bring the player to the Bernabeu – and that this would represent his last offer to Ronaldo. Just as Calderon has not pursued Kaka after the Milan player decided against a move last year, he would not come knocking again.
Ronaldo's pattern of behaviour is becoming more and more predictable: first he makes the right noises about United; then, when only Spanish reporters are listening, he hints that he is ready to be courted by Real. The winger's suggestion at the weekend that he would decide on his future in the the next "two to three days" was the firmest indication yet that there was actually something on which to make up his mind.
The view from Portugal is that Ronaldo has either set his heart on a move, or else he is seeking to renegotiate his current contract at Old Trafford. United have been resolute on the issue that no new deal will be made, though how far the club – or Ferguson – are prepared to be pushed remains to be seen.
Though United rejected the suggestion a week ago that Ronaldo might be reined in, it is hard to conceive that his behaviour has not at least mildly irritated Ferguson and the hero worship which has accompanied him to Switzerland will certainly have done little to dampen the player's soaring self-esteem.
There was a crowd of 12,000 on hand when he ran out to train last night – unprecedented for a Portugal squad – and at least 4,000 seemed to represent his personal fan club, judging by the chants of his name which were ringing out.
It is difficult to predict when the player will next appear in public, since the Portuguese provide less than 24 hours' notice of which player will appear alongside coach Luiz Felipe Scolari at the team's daily Euro 2008 briefings. Friday seems a likely option ahead of Saturday evening's game with Turkey – though Scolari might keep him out of the spotlight.
Ferguson simply told Frost that Real were to blame for the uncertainty. "They've done it with [David] Beckham, they've done it with [Ruud] Van Nistelrooy, they've done it with my fitness coach last summer, they took him away from us, so we're used to it," he said.
"And it's a great... in a way it's a compliment to the standard of players that we have, you know, and we always seem to produce, but I am more than confident Cristiano will be there next year."

Whew

Bahama, why keep posting articles with no quotes or substance to them? You're just adding to the hysteria when in reality the situation hasn't changed in the last few days.

These are first articles I've posted in a while son. And they are the first I have seen that indicate for true that the pendulum is swinging. (not the Sun one of course)

The Sun one is typical Sun, surely you know that Gaz.
The Guardian and the Independent are generally spot on. There's a lot in those two articles that we have been discussing here.
Oh, yes, and this is the Giant Ronaldo thread....and these are Ronaldo articles....just out....and it is in the correct forum and in the correct thread and I am discussing this Ronaldo affair and I am reading all the other posts.
So what's the problem? This is your contribution to this discussion?
:nervous:

the media cannot let it die down, so this turn of 'events', isn't suprising. We know nothing more really, and looking at the curtis article it's basic sitting on the fence, trying to read into what Ronaldos up too

Yup just went on the Publico site as I've got a basic understanding of Portuguese and there's definitely nothing recent about Ron, they've even got the 2 to 3 days story from May 31st.

if ronnie goes only after euros, i dno't think its enough time for fergie to suddenly go splash the cash on benzema+ribery, or any combo of replacements. these kinds of deals take months to occur. if fergie/utd don't find out soon, i reckon we will keep him one more year regardless of what he says then shift him after fergie has a chance to do groundwork on replacements.

remember, ruud asked for a transfer out seasons before his last one. fergie rejected them, until it was right for united. fergie will do the same in this case.

I stand by what I said. Those articles are pointless, and posting three of them on the spin when they all say as much (or as little) as each other does nothing for "discussion" besides fuel the unsubstantiated hysteria on here.

VoetbalWizard is right, you need a replacement before you can release the player.

Again, where is the press conference as reported by the journalist on Saturday?

Exactly, if we are compeltely blindsided at the beginning of July we'll be on the abck foot well and truly.

Perhaps some kind of gentemen's agreement [not that Ronnie or his agent have acted much like one as of late] is on the cards here? If he stays for a duration to our liking and not leave us in the lurgh, we'll facilitate his move to Madrid or the like.

I don't regard the Independent article as pointless. The Sun one yes. The Guardian one someone else posted (just before me I might add).
They are bang up to date articles written by what I regard as professional newspapers. Not tabloids.
And unsubstantiated hysteria...come on Gaz, even you should be able to see that somethings going on. We're emotional, yes...but we have a right to be and an internet forum is where we can vent it and discuss it. If you don't like it why not go off to the "Do Not Shave Your Ass Hair" thread.

Err, what? :wenger:

Discussion is fine. I don't see the point in posting three largely similar, largely unfounded newspaper stories, just for the sake of it.

But whatever, I'm not really arsed, you keep getting your undies in a twist if you want. I'll wait till I see proper evidence.

I lost all respect for real madrid with the way they are poaching ronaldo by using their unoffical newpapers as mouthpieces. And the most annoying thing is they keep doing it. If you want a player, just ask the club who own the player and if they say no, shut up about it already.

I pray man utd if they end up selling ronnie, sell it to anyone but real madrid.

Fergie doesn't like the media circus round his players, affecting the rest of his team, as with Becks, and he won't put up with this much longer eithe
This media circus is over the summer though, so it's not really affecting the squad in the way that it would if we were mid-season. This will all be resolved by pre-season, one way or another.

Though if he stays, it will likely start again next summer.

Agreed if he wants to leave sell him to Barcelona that would get up there tits

you had respect for madrid to begin with?

heh, i never understood the support madrid get from utd fans, especially on this board. they are a shithouse club. i despise them close to the level of the dippers.

I used to them them when Zidane and Beckham were there.

(They are much like Chelsea but with a good history)

It would not work if the player wasn't also receptive in some way, else they'd be simply whispering into a gale, no disruption for ourselves at all.

Don't know why this only just occurred to me and apologies if it has already been gone over, but why is Ronaldo making a direct announcement to the media? Surely the proper and usual way of handling such things is for it to go through the club? A statement on our website or news conferecne by the club secretary even?

Gaz, you've made 10 posts in this thread, 7 of which have been complaining about posters posting articles that they find. You obviously are happy sitting back and ignoring the situation. I have no problem with that. To each his own. You see no need for discussion or reading articles about what's going on. Good for you.
I'm different though. The Independent and the Guardian articles show a very new side to the show. We're in here to discuss this.
Oh, and I must stop posting articles from the Guardian and the Independent then? Cos Gaz says so?

 You take this forum thing very seriously, I see.

Carry on!

I used to them them when Zidane and Beckham were there.

(They are much like Chelsea but with a good history)

their history is one of corruption, being propped up by a fascist government, and having disgustingly racist fans.

i can understand people who respect milan's history and success (they have been more successful than madrid over the last 20 years IMO). madrid, i have no time for.

zidane is the best player i ever saw, but should've watched him at juve. zidane at juve was better than zidane at madrid IMO.
