ALL Ronaldo's future/comments/speculation

found this on another forum.

I work at Manchester's daily paper and our Sports Desk has just now received word that Cristiano Ronaldo is on the brink of handing in a transfer request.

He will only agree to stay if he is given a new contract larger than that offered by Real Madrid and a 85 percent share of his image rights. This deal would see him become the highest paid sports star in history.

Sir Alex is absolutely furious at being held to ransom but is willing to negotiate on the image rights. The Glazers, however, are insulted by the player and are blocking any deal to retain him. As we understand it, Man United might not be able to afford to meet the player's demands in any case due to their complicated re–financing structure.

United have contacted the paper to arrange a 'Please Stay' campaign from the fans in an effort to tug at Cristiano Ronaldo's heart strings.

100 percent accurate information from senior Old Trafford sources.

100% bullshit.

Why bother?

  1. "I work at manchester's daily paper". Really? Am I to believe that you wouldn't say "I work at the MEN"?
  2. In England, and at United, players don't give up their 'image rights' to the club. They retain the right to exploit their own image as they (and their agent) sees fit. That's one reason why you can't compare English and Spanish salaries.
  3. "The highest paid sports star in history". Really? More than Tiger Woods? He earns $100m a year (SOURCE: http://www.forbes.com/media/2008/02...g_0204blackstars_slide_3.html?thisSpeed=15000). Are we going to pay Cristiano $2m a week?
  4. United have contacted the paper to arrange a 'pls stay' campaign! Do you really think that the club would lower itself to this level? Do you not think that, even if the club wanted this to take plaec, it would have to instigate such a campaign?
  5. MOst seriously - SAF is furious, but ready to negotiatie? Does that sound like the man we all know and love?

Even Gerejo was surprised. "I didn't expect that," he tells me. It's the kind of incident which is contributing to the current antagonism felt by the the Portuguese media contingent which has already decamped to Austria, for Cristiano Ronaldo. "We don't like him. He only wants to talk to the Spanish," says one of their number.

Ron hasn't been talking to anyone, or if he has no one has reported it, except when Portugal stick him in front of a camera for a press conference and for about 30 seconds on Saturday night when a group of half a dozen (Spanish and Portuguese) reporters cornered him as he left the stadium.

The word around the Portuguese camp – unsubstantiated as it is - is that Ramon Calderon has made it clear that if Ronaldo does not sign now he will not be pursued again during his presidency - and that has made the player think deeply about his future direction.

That wouldn't surprise me at all.

In spite of what's on here, there's only one idiot in all this and that's Calderon.

Busy day today so just popping in to see what's appening. SOS I see. No announcement. More bullshit.

It's getting to the point where I have to say....sell him.

Was chatting to a couple of mates today about the whole thing.

We basically came to the agreement that if Real did offer something stupid, say £100 million, it would make sense to accept, move on and build on the squad. Rather than lose him for far less, 3 years down the line, making it far harder, if not impossible to replace him with the money Real would pay.

Sensing an escalation of the diplomatic stand-off which has already seen Sir Alex Ferguson allude to Real's affinity with Franco, the Portuguese football federation's press officer Onofre Costa tried to intervene last week when a Spanish journalist upstaged a press conference at the national team's training camp at Viseu, northern Portugal, by presenting the player with a Real team poster and telling him: "I am here to say one thing: 'We want you with us.'" Ronaldo waved away the official's protestations and insisted on receiving the poster from AS.com's Jose Luis Gerejo. "It's a present for me. I want it," he said, taking the gift.

Even Gerejo was surprised. "I didn't expect that," he tells me.

Why he does things like this is beyond me. If i was a Portugal fan i would be really annoyed at the attention he is craving and getting. Must be a distraction for the squad.

Just been watching Portugal training.

Major Ron news is he's got really nice green boots and the crowd (12,000 who've paid to get in) squeal (yep, squeal) every time he gets the ball. Bet he's wishing he was back at Carrington

If you remember after the last world cup, Ronaldo was too immature and said what he said without thinking it through. So this 2-3 days doesn't matter and it's certainly not a bad sign.

his 2-3 days is up. We need answers. The longer he leaves it the more likely a transfer to Real seems

It depends which version of it you read. the comment was made while he sneaking out during the second half of the Georgia game, so what you've got are the notes of the half dozen reporters who stopped him on the way to his car.

The version from one Portuguese reporter said:
Can we expect news in the coming days over your future?
"I certainly hope so."
When?
'Soon'
Soon when?
"In two or three days, I hope."

The Spanish reporter from Marca remembered it as, "I'll announce my decision in two or three days."

Spot the difference.

 Never seen a bigger drama-queen thread on the cafe since I started - and that is saying something.

 I see what your getting at but either way the 2-3 days is up and we have heard nothing.

he said I hope, thats mean he may also not say anything at all during that period.

Wether he meant the two or three days or not eveyone is now expecting an announcement and teh very least he could do is announce he has nothing to announce

3 years down the line he would be 26, he would not have started to decline by then. And don't make comparisons between Ronnie now and Ronaldinho a few years back, the age difference is a big factor. Ronaldo is not yet at his peak and Ronaldinho was.

Selling him now is not an option, but I understand your theory.

lol players start to hit their peak 27-29 years. frightening thought, isn't it?

I think RM would never bid more than 40 mil pounds. Unless the government steps in that is

The government would definitely step in. Real Madrid paid €76m for a 29 year old Zidane, given the fact that transfer fees have taken a distinct rise in the past few years and the fact that Ronnie still has plenty of good years ahead of him, we should be expecting €100m at least.

I don't think that's the case any more. Players seem to be peaking younger, which is probably related to the increased emphasis on physical abilities like speed.

Calderon: No number seven for Ronaldo

Ramon Calderon says Cristiano Ronaldo won't get the number seven shirt if he joins Real Madrid as the shirt is worn by club legend Raul.

Madrid move is off

:smirk: So because he won't be given the number 7 he won't go to Madrid?

If that were true then he would have refused to play for Portugal because Figo was keeping the number 7 to himself.

adding to that CR7 hotel rumor, don't forget his CR7 store in Funchal.

So aint today that Cristiano was meant to put us out of our misery?

Cristiano Ronaldo's imminent statement about his future has not left manager Sir Alex Ferguson in a sweat - because he is already "more than confident" the winger will stay at Manchester United.

Double Footballer of the Year Ronaldo (left) a £100million target for Real Madrid, has said he will make a decision before Portugal's Euro 2008 campaign starts on Saturday.

But Fergie expects the phoney war with Real to have a happy ending for United fans and said: "I'm very confident - it's a game they (Real Madrid) play all the time.

"In the past they have done it with David Beckham, they have done it with Ruud van Nistelrooy and they even took our fitness coach away from us last summer, so we're used to it.

"It's a great compliment to the standard of the players we have but I'm more than confident Ronaldo will be here next year.

"We have very determined directors in the Glazer family, who will not be messed around in this situation. And chief executive David Gill is of the same mind, so the core structure of Manchester United - in terms of the people who run the club - are all adamant.

"We want Cristiano to stay for a long time and we have rewarded that. He is on a fantastic contract and rightly so - he's the best player in the world and he deserves to be recognised in the monetary sense."

2 week old quotes

My heart is set on a move to Madrid, says Manchester United's Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid.

The Old Trafford winger has finally admitted to close friends in Portugal that he sees his longterm future in Spain and not with the Barclays Premier League champions.

Bye, bye United: Ronaldo is keen to go

Ronaldo knows that there are serious obstacles to overcome if he is to move this summer and that United will do everything they can to keep hold of him at least for another season.

He has also accepted that he may have to wait at least another year for his move to La Liga.

But - whether he leaves this summer or not - the fact is that the 23-year-old now has his heart set firmly on a move to Real.

It remains highly unlikely that Ronaldo will try to force a switch by officially asking for a transfer but United must now decide whether to hold their most saleable asset to his current £120,000-a-week contract or give in to Real's relentless pursuit of the player.

Last night, indications were that United's position had not changed, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson leaving for his annual break in France on the understanding that the Old Trafford board would not even consider selling the player.

Last week United threatened to report Real to UEFA for making illegal approaches to Ronaldo and chief executive David Gill has subsequently written to the Spanish club demanding that they drop their interest.

Nevertheless, United are becoming increasingly aware that Ronaldo's head has been turned and they now must face up to the grim fact that the Portugal forward wants to further his career in Spain.

Ronaldo's team of advisers have been hoping that United may bend to their demands for a new contract, something that the club has shown absolutely no intention of doing.

But even that would not persuade the player to remain at Old Trafford in the long term. The Madeira-born star feels that two league titles, an FA Cup and a Champions League title represent an adequate set of achievements in England and that he must eventually test himself in another league and in another environment.

Ronaldo is currently in Switzerland with his national team at a training camp ahead of the European Championship which begins at the weekend.

He has said already that he will make an announcement 'in the next few days' but the Portugal camp made it clear last night that they would not take any questions on their star man's future.

Spokesman Antonio Florencio said: "If it's going to (be announced during the tournament) I think it will come through his agent. This is the national team. We have no business dealing with such matters."

Portugal's opening game is against Turkey in Geneva on Saturday and Ronaldo was the centre of attention at their last public training session at their Neuchatel base last night.

The biggest cheers from the 12,000 supporters attendance were reserved for him every time he touched the ball.
