ALL Ronaldo's future/comments/speculation

For those that thick 'I stay' would have finished all this... Ronnie has only a bit part in this saga. Someone else would just keep it going, aided by media cretins...

I don't think manliness comes into it. He's spoken to SAF - he's told him what he wants. If it's a transfer, SAF knows.

Meanwhile he's a United employee until United say they've sold his contract.

If he handed in a transfer request there wouldn't be any speculation.

Telling the press things like "everyone knows what I want" and "the future...who knows?" is not equivalent to handing in a transfer request.

No there would be continued speculation because the club would still refuse to sell.

This "handing in a transfer request" malarkey is not very well understood by most people. Players almost never "hand in a transfer request" these days.

That would be similar to your or I sacrificing our last 6 months salary, just because we wanted to work one months notice instead of two i.e. complete madness

I can't even remember the last player who did such a thing. Can anyone else?

I think that's the point. If you want something you do what you must to get it. The fact Ronaldo hasn't speaks volumes. One of his entourage is wearing a united top in one of the pics!! I don't see a Madrid shirt in site. If Ronaldo had something to say, he'd be wearing a madrid top or one of his people would certainly

I personally think he's happy to stay but yes in the future spain, but maybe certain people want him to move now. People should be glad the threads dying after the recent pictures of Ronaldo :)

pogue, your basically saying Ronaldo's a mercenary. I'm not so sure. What's loyalty? Ok he's said some silly things but he's been here five years and hardly missed a game

For the monies he'd lose, he'd still make a bundle. Someone like barry doesn't earn as much so obviously it'd hit these types of players harder to request a transfer

I feel I should post in here once in awhile, this thread is going to be more legendary than the transfer itself (when it happens, whenever that is).

they don't do it because it means no loyalty bonus. I understand it quite well. What I don't understand is professing to want something and then being passive about achieving it. The similarities between regular folk and millionaire footballers are nil, Pogue.

Ronaldo's behaviour this summer is already having a detrimental effect on my enjoyment of the club and the season has yet to begin. Right now, I don't foresee myself celebrating if he scores for us next season.

The World Cup saga was almost on a par with this year and it proved to be pointless. United won the PL twice and the CL two years later and he became a hero. The cycle will repeat itself i've no doubt. The fans will forgive him once Ronnie performs to the standards he's set over the last few years.

I know he came out with alot of retarded things, some of what he said was misinterpreted, twisted etc. by the media, however he's still a United player and if SAF thinks he's worth the hassle, then so do i. I'd be more pissed if Ronnie was gone this summer, just remember the football and it should bring a smile back to your face, it worked for me.

There's being "passive" and there's sacrificing squillions of quid to make a move. I don't think someone is being the former, just because they won't do the latter.

Obviously, it's far-fetched to compare millionaire footballers and us mere mortals but a million quid (or whatever enormous sum of money he would stand to lose) is a millon quid no matter how wealthy you are.

Back to my question though (cause I'm genuinely interested in the answer) can anyone name the last high-profile signing, which was triggered by the player in question putting in a formal transfer request?

Rooney, Everton, 2004?

Why do you think he would loose money? the millions Madrid would be paying for his transfer compensating Ronaldo would be peanuts.

Bless him. I'd forgotten about that.

Not really comparing like with like though. Rooney will have been on buttons at Everton, would probably have lost more money by delaying joining United than he would have by putting in a transfer request to leave Everton.

likely a similar situation to the one that saw Claude Makelele end up handing in a transfer request at Real Madrid in 2003.

Good post!

I am starting to wish Ronaldo would be sold to Madrid. I could try my very best to put up a good word for him in front of the Caftards, but he isn't doing any justice to himself and the Man Utd supporters by keeping real quiet about his situation.

SAF will have a limit of tolerance as well, there is only so much we can do to protect a Man Utd player, if he continues his stubborness, there is only one thing, to let him rot in the reserves or sell him if the price is right. He will never let any of the players off-field matters affect the whole team. Ronaldo should be punished for bringing quite abit of disarray to the team, but we must also try to bring the fact across to him that we care about him as a team player and for the good of the team, and remind him that Manchester United moves on with or without him, without a doubt.

If you're letting Ronaldo effect your enjoyment of the club, then you're making Ronaldo bigger than the club in your eyes.

You can celebrate United scoring without celebrating the person who scored. Sing United songs, not Ronaldo songs.

Anyone else feel that if Ronaldo stays, and actually comes out to confirm it even if it drags to next month and almost as the window closes, it would feel like a new signing?

I know he's not bigger than the club, but we really, really miss his talent. He may not look as dangerous or score those braces in the so called 'big' games, but the fact that he pulls at least 3 players whenever he touches the ball, is so crucial in creating space for our other attackers.

It's speculation at the moment but it will be something new for me. I vocally stood by him during the Rooney saga (https://www.redcafe.net/f6/love-ronaldo-thread-119018/) but now I can't even see myself liking him in the slightest. I've never experienced this with any team I've followed, cheered on, or whatever, in any sport. I don't see it as making him bigger than the club, simply not enjoying his presence on my favourite team. He will have his work cut out for him in trying to win back a large section of the club's support.

Hycool - emulate your username and trust in the lord (sorry, the knight - he'll be a lord if he does the treble again next season)

Just when it's obvious United are refusing to sell - you do a complete U-TURN and wish Ronaldo would be sold?

You really are a confused soul.

It's the waiting I tell you - all this damned waiting! Gadzooks man, I've seen grown men reduced to gibbering wrecks; not by the shelling or the guns - just by this damned, interminable intolerable waiting....

(Sobs uncontrollably, exits muttering to self..)

What a strange U-turn by Hycool especially as things seem to be finally slowing down. I blame it on whoever gave him that tagline!

For Real Madrid, Ronaldo is gold dust on and off the pitch as they are even willing to shell £60M plus to get hold him, they are certain they could make back the investment through marketing.

Our wage bill stands at 43% and could break the 50% barrier as Nani, Anderson probably getting three-fold increase a season down the line plus improved contracts for Vidic, Evra, Rooney and Tevez and Fergie might even go shopping for a striker and a top notch goalie soon.

Ronaldo’s wages standing as it is wont damage the wage bill and also he is worth more on and off the pitch in the next four seasons..more than £60M or £70M that Real Madrid can offer.

With him around we might end up with couple of league titles and an European cup in the next four seasons and also his increasing marketing value at the same wage is a bonus.

They’ve tapped him up and he has behaved like an utter prat...There is no second thought but if we bend over to Real Madrid, they might come sniffing around for Tevez, Rooney or Anderson in the future.

Bottom-line: Ronaldo has four more years remaining in his contract and let him stay as long as it lasts and go on a Bosman. He wont risk his career by taking on Fergie and ending up in the reserves.

Fergie and Gill should keep mum and get on with the business of strengthening the team. 23 is a young age for any individual to handle fame and money...who knows three years from now on Ronnie's priorities might change could marry a fat lass that hates beaches and finally settle in Manchester.

I see the distinction you're making, I think. The difference between enjoying his presence on the team versus enjoying the team in general.

I know what you mean. I don't hate Ronaldo, but I'm indifferent toward him. And that sucks, because I have never felt anything short of affection for a United player before (it's a weird feeling, for sure). Instead of dwelling on Ronaldo (outside of the entertainment that I get from this thread), I'm trying to focus on my excitement to see every other player, to see how the younger guys improve, etc.
