GUTI WOULD WELCOME RONALDO AND ETO'O
Real Madrid playmaker Guti insists the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo would not disrupt team spirit.
The Manchester United winger has been linked with a lucrative move all summer and would likely be one of the highest earners at the Bernabeu should a transfer go ahead.
On Tuesday Real captain Raul refuted suggestions Ronaldo's arrival and wage packet would upset the harmony of the squad, and Guti has followed suit, endorsing the winger as one of the best players in the world.
"Real Madrid need good players and Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player you can bring in right now," Guti said at a press conference.
"We would be delighted to have him. He wouldn't upset the good atmosphere, and anyway people tell me he's a great person and a good team player.
"Everyone works to earn as much as they can get and if he's one of the best players in the world he should earn more.
"Maybe he won't win you the Champions League on his own, but he's very tricky and he'll win you games. With players like that you've always got chances to win plenty of titles."
Guti would also welcome unsettled Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o back to Madrid if a move is sealed.
Eto'o has been told he can leave the Nou Camp this summer, and although he is reportedly the subject of interest from Real, it would be a controversial move for the player who left on a sour note in 2000.
"He did it before (play for Madrid) and he's one of the greats of football," Guti said of Eto'o.
"I have a great friendship with him, he's a great player and a good person. If he comes he'll bring a lot to the side. He's a great player and Real Madrid always sign great players."
Guti also believes the Bernabeu crowd would welcome the Cameroon international back.
"Madrid fans are very understanding and if Samuel does things well and scores a lot of goals then we'll all be happy," he said.

That right there is a poster boy for "Euro Trash".
In the interest of fairness, here is a poster boy for American Trash:
Nah, I don't agree with that. I think you miss the point, there is nothing wrong with Ronaldo wanting away in itself, that's entirely reasonable. What hasn't been reasonable is 1) that he wants so a year after signing a 5 year contract, where he was paid handsomely in return for his long term committment to the club, and 2) the way he's handled himself, let the saga develop, and some of the things he's said
People keep comparing him to the likes of Scholes, Neville and Giggs, saying not everyone is like that and we're lucky. Thing is, we have plenty of players who aren't local, or haven't been with the club for years and years. But I don't question their loyalty. They haven't seen the need to act in this way. I don't think you can describe Ronaldo's behaviour as in any way 'normal'
Lastly, I see your post as one built on passionless logic. Football is all about passion and caring. Ultimately it doesn't matter; at the same time, it really does. I'm sick of arguements like yours that demand we have to accept the 'real world' of todays top players and their attiutudes. No we don't, and we can wear our hearts on our sleeve as we speak out against it. Modern footballers are still bound to their contracts. Their wages are still paid by match going and TV watching supporters. Whilst thats the case, we have every right to complain when we see a player, especially at our own club, treating us with contempt and disdane
Quality post as usual.
Funnilly enough I can relate to everything you say with most footballers/teams - but for reasons I cannot explain my personality changes as soon as "United" come into the equation - all logic, and rational thinking vanishes.
United is about the only time I let myself go completely.
I don't think anyone thinks you do. Nobody sensible anyway.
Similarly, I don't think anyone should call fellow fans "turncoats" either, just because they're slightly less hysterical about the whole thing.
Actually Sults, I'm the same really, I just keep the rational part at the back of my mind to preserve my sanity. It is extremely hard to be rational towards one's own club. Why? Because loyalty to it is pure, unrestrained tribalism; one of the great animating human forces. I've mentioned before that this differs markedly from loyalty to, for those of us who are English, Ing-er-lund. The latter isn't really tribal, it's nationalistic. And there is an element of it which can be manipulated in such a way that it ends in, for example, The Somme.
My attitude therefore (as I have mentioned in another thread) is 'Get fecking In United!!' And feck Ing-er-lund.
'Get fecking In United!!' And feck Ing-er-lund.

Pretty much all been said before, he just writes it in a more Galileo style.
meh the hot pants debate is far more important and interesting then more madrid shite. SAF put an end to this IMO and madrid cant do anything
I wasn't referring to Ronaldo, but to another poster's ludicrous claim that Rio, of all people, was still on probation, and had better watch out! (in so many words.) Think like that and your a scintilla away from the men in white coats.

Though actually there was one entertaining story in Marca today. Robinho is expected to sign a new 5 year contract, that will increase his pay. However Madrid will still sell him if Ron moves. Contracts - schmontracts - eh.
Ooops - let's make that 2 stories.
First - on the Robinho story - "insiders" say he's told "sources" in the dressing room that he wants to leave, despite expecting to sign a new contract.
And some Tevez comments published by AS:
http://www.as.com/futbol/articulo/f...tar-cristiano/dasftb/20080723dasdaiftb_43/Tes
AS leads the story with the idea that SAF doesn't have the full backing of his players on the Ron affair, which is a fairly typical example of the spin we've seen throughout the story.
The Tevez quotes then, according to AS:
"I understand Cristiano Ronaldo. Every footballer wants to play at Real Madrid."
Fortunately he also said:
"While on the other hand I also think that everyone wants to play for Manchester."
"But if what he seeks is something else, I think that should be respected."
"I haven't talked to him, but when these things happen, neither side feels good. Now in addition, he's dealing with the ankle injury, and he'll feel bad about that too. I hope that everything turns out well. "
he is soooo gayyy
What a poofball...After:
.
Eurgh!
That picture made me cringe more than anything else that has happened this summer.
Sell the queer.
I don't think many people still feel that way to be fair. He really did piss some folk off at the time though. Fred is a hard man to win back! I think Rio has grown up a lot since those days, I've certainly forgiven him myself
Are you quoting latin abbreviations at me?!
That pic is surely photoshopped?
BTW, Calderon said in an interview that he expects "almost none" new signings... Well, doesnt put him in a good position to get re-elected
where did you read that interview?

Tevez understands why Ronaldo would leave United for Real Madrid
Carlos Tevez says he understands why Cristiano Ronaldo would want to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid.
United are refusing to consider selling the Portugal winger but, speaking to the Spanish media, Tevez said: 'This is a personal decision which is up to only him. If what he seeks is something else, I think that should be respected.
'I understand Cristiano Ronaldo. Every footballer wants to play at Real Madrid, while on the other hand I also think that everyone wants to play for Manchester United. I have not talked to him, but when these things happen, neither side feels good.'
United midfielder Ji-Sung Park is a doubt for the start of the season after undergoing minor knee surgery.
