I would. We'd be losing the greatest footballer of our generation. Our Maradonna, our Pele, our Best. That would upset me.

Not sure I agree with that, I believe the little Argie at Barca will eventually prove he's that player. But they're probably the two stand out players of this current generation. Some would add Kaka, I take more convincing I'm afraid. Great player, but he's significantly the easiest of the three to keep quiet in a game with some tight marking. Three players could mark Messi and it still not be enough!

Forever Red, when this happened in 2006, I was a fair lone voice. Because of the Rooney incident, England turning against him, United fans rallied round. And great to see. But his comments then pissed me off, I'm not at all suprised at how events have turned out. But I hope he see's sense and just accepts he's not going anywhere even if he wants too, shut it and give it his all next season again

Messi's good for sure. He rang rings around us. Smooth Operator. But to me Ronnie's got it all. I can't believe he can get better. If he just stays the same it'll be a miracle. If he leaves us his world will change and football will become secondary to him. It's his call.

Well maybe its reaction like this from supporters thats making him even consider moving ...The lad has his reason for saying what he has said to the media but we all jump on our high horses and think the worst of him. For all he has done season after season I think he deserves some respect. I am sure all his antics has nothing to do with him not loving United. After all is said and done and he gets his deal that he is negotiating he should make a statement to the supporters exlaining certain aspects but still that might not be enough. As BahamaRed said he is our Pele, Maradona and I now see why he is so upset over this entire issue. What I cannot understand is why a player is judged so harshly when they decide to move to another club...if he ants to go let him go..on good terms obviously. I know its has a lot to do with loyalty but can't we just appreciate them for what they have contributed when they were at United instead of getting nasty and deny the fact that he is one of the best number 7 we have ever had. Maybe I am being too sympathetic but seriously this is how I feel about the whole issue...not forgetting he has never said I want to leave United

I very much doubt that my or any United supporters comments will force Ronnie into a move. Ive been going to Old Trafford a long time and would love him to stay , he is afterall one of the most exciting players around today and without doubt one of the best players I have ever seen . What annoys me is the fact is that he could have ended all the speculation when it started but chose not to. He forgets that when he came here he was an unknown and Utd under Fergie have turned him into a superstar . He's the one who should be showing you and I respect by commiting his future to Utd or being big enough to say that he wants to move and not all the bollocks he keeps coming out with.

No one player is bigger than United.

How can an adverse rection which he himself was the catalyst for be justification for these actions?

Look, people don't like being messed about. You say he deserves respect for what he has given the club, but has it given him nothing at all in return?

There are ways of handling matters, leaving a club if it comes to it, what has occurred not thus far is not the best of way to go about such things.

Who cares about contracts when you are as rich as he, surely at his level the currency is winners medals or a good cause for hope of them in the near future.

If he wants to go elsewhere to make his mother happy, satisfy a dream, confront a new challenge, i can respect that those things as much as i might think his timing is not in our interests. But if it be money, no. And all this carry on, not at all.

As i've said before my hunch is that he will stay at least one more season, however from a public relations PoV the situation has been fudged on a magnitude that the Labour government would be proud of [okay well naybe tha is a slgiht exageration :D].

Think I agree with most of that (except for the labour government bit)
I think its all about us enjoying him so much that we're getting rattled that he may be leaving. It really is like a wife saying she might be leaving, "maybe 2-3 weeks, maybe 2-3 days.....I'll make a decison then".
Yes you can say, well fk you, go now....but if you really love her you'll, well, freak!
Of course he's done so well for us this year. BPITW. No doubt about that (In my best Govan drone). But he's got my head spinning right now and I don't appreciate it and it will make me think of him differently in the future. It can never be the same.

Beckham To Ronaldo: You Should Stay

In perhaps one of the most ironic twists in this dramatic transfer saga, former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at United despite overtures from the Spanish capital...

Beckham, now of Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy, moved from Manchester United to Madrid in 2003 after something of a falling out between he and manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ronaldo was bought from Sporting Lisbon that same summer and given Beckham's number seven - formerly belonging to King Eric Cantona and a host of other United legends.

While Beckham could not emulate his United success with los Merengues, Ronaldo has, after a few years of bedding in, grown to be one of if not the best player in the world, sealing that status with a goal in United's Champions League win last month in Moscow, as part of a double with the club's second successive Premier League.

Beckham has urged Ronaldo to stay with the Red Devils insisting that, unlike himself, the Portuguese is still very much at the beginning of his United career, despite having been there for five years.

"I believe he's at the right club and a club he should stay at because as much as Real Madrid are a great team and one of the biggest clubs in the world, he's only just starting at Manchester United," explained Beckham.

"He's only been there a few years. He's got a lot of people around him who will protect him. As a fan of Manchester United I hope he stays there but who knows?

"It's none of my business. All I'm going to say to him is congratulations on an amazing season. I'm sure he'll be crowned world player of the year and he deserves it."

You beauty

Beckham would have been better off staying himself he and Ruud were great together as displayed even last year at Madrid; I get pissed at people who hate Beckham his favorite club in the world is still clearly Manchester United, just as Becks learned as will Ronaldo one day the grass isnt greener on the other side of the hill

Madrid just wont stop. I just cant believe they just dont care if they look like idiots or whoring themselves over Ronnie. That club is just not right and the way they try to get deals for players is ridiculous.

Remember the long list of players speaking how much they would love to have Ronnie on their team (Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Robinho, Heinze and some others) well now Guti has been added to the list.

http://www.goal.com/en/articolo.aspx?contenutoid=720741

Just look how many players, managers, staff members and even people that doesnt even belong to Madrid (ex: Scollari) come telling the same fecking shit every single day. It just should stop ffs. We as a club should stop this.
It seems there is no respect for Manchester Utd as a club and its obvious when you just dont care about what the owner club may think or say about your comment on one of their players.

Why should they? Madrid not only want him for footballing reasons, but also commercial, even moreso IMO. Ronaldo is the best player and also the most popular in the world by far, much more than the likes of Torres/Fabregas/Kaka/Ronaldinho/Ibra/etc. Madrid are jealous. Who gives a shit about Robinho atm? No disrespect to him i think he's quality. Messi comes close to rivalling Ronaldo, probably his only rival right now, but pales in comparison in terms of commercial value, and they have a snowball's chance in hell of landing him from their rivals Barca.

They don't care about looking like idiots, because if they land Ronaldo, the result far outweighs the process.

I'd have been more shocked if Guti or whoever had come out with a - we don't want him, we don't need him, and he'd get paid more than me so I'll be the next one in Calderon's office demanding a new contract. But some of the Spanish press think that players like Raul and Casillas (and RvN?) believe that buying Cristiano would be the start of a slippery slope that begins with a galactico and ends with them winning bugger all.

That's why Schuster came out with his spiel about Ron being a good pro, who'd been well trained by United and therefore a safe addition - and that Madrid could keep the media at bay (yeah, right - that's exactly what Calderon plans to do with the media if he gets Ron )

With the Euros coming up a lot of players (including the ones who aren't locked away in training camps) are getting asked about the "danger men" and it's very hard to avoid a direct question like: Would you like to play alongside him? Especially if your bosses have made clear what the answer is supposed to be - just in case you make yourself part of summer sales.

ALEX FERGUSON is expecting Cristiano Ronaldo to confirm he is staying a Manchester United player.

And the Portugal winger would not be allowed to leave even if he wanted to go.

Fergie insists there is no way his star player will be signing for Real Madrid.

The United boss said: “I’m very confident about that. It’s a game Real play all the time. In the past they’ve done it with David Beckham, they’ve done it with Van Nistelrooy, they’ve done it with my fitness coach last summer — so we’re used to it.

Well, isn't that worrying? Exactly where did these three guys end up?

:nervous:

They were chasing Ruud and Becks for several seasons until the time came when we were good and ready to sell them on.

There's that in the thread but there's also a fair amount of triumphant gloating from people who "always knew" that he wasn't to be trusted and are looking forward to the chance of deriding the Ron-lovers and who are actually hoping to see a Ron-less team sadly for the sole purpose of demonstrating (they hope) that Ron wasn't really that important.

I like the wife analogy enough that I'll twist it even further though. Let's imagine that wifey is well aware, based on information from the many ex-wives you've discarded, that you'd drop her as soon as she loses her looks or gets too stroppy. We're asking for loyalty (in thoughts and words as well as in action) from a player who's seen his mates get sold and who's been sold a few times himself - it's not exactly a normal love affair.

Difference is that Fergie wanted to sell... unlike Ronaldo

Im not concerned by the current situation...just curious to what roonie could possibly want to say. Fergie will not sell, especially after what he's come out and said. He doesnt lose players he doesnt want to unless the russian mafia get involved!!!

If ronaldo did want to leave it makes no sense for him to come out on the eve of the european championships and say i want to leave. Just attracts turmoil to the portugese set up and big phil for one wouldnt allow him to make a public announcement saying i want to leave..the timing is all wrong.

so in conclusion he's coming out to put it to bed and let the portugal side focus on the euro's. my only slight thought is that takes about a second to say so why not just say it? Lets hope they are negotiating a secret contract extension!

where is this thread?? I'd love to tear into these muppets

Let's move his mum to England, put her up in Buckingham Palace and move the Queen out for the time being
Surely Tatton Hall would be more appropriate?

i reckon Fergie and CQ are more pissed at Real for trying to unsettle him, than at Ronaldo, and i am too.
They are probably a damn sight closer to the truth than we are; surely we should afford them a bit of respect and let them get on with looking after the players, even if we can pick better starting elevens. :smirk:

Or just hope she passes away pretty soon. What kind of mother wants her son to give up his life when he is as happy as he's ever been? Egoistic cnut, move to England.
:nono: Well out of order. Glazer, yes, Mummy Ron, no.

To be fair, there can be no excuses for Ronaldo.

Every fan who's gone to our games this year has given him everything, fans have bought the united shirt and got his name on the back...kids idolise him...Sir Alex supported him and he's being messed with by Ronaldo AGAIN. We fecking made him the player he is, and he shouldn't fecking forget that before spending '2 or 3 weeks' messing around with the club, and the fans.

True, this is all about Money, and holding out for a better deal from United, but Rio got shit for this, so why shouldn't Ronaldo?

I fully believe he is very happy here, but we've just won the European Cup for feck sake. We should be concentrating on enjoying what the club has achieved and looking forward to next season, and Ronaldo has tainted the winning feeling through this bullshit and refusal to flat out state his position.
Ronaldo didn't get himself banned for not pissing in a bottle and have the club stand by him while he was feck all use to us for months on end.

I don't like his attitude. As soon he's away from Old Trafford, he becomes a cnut. Fergie keeps him in check, I reckon on international duty he thinks he's queen fecking bee whereas at United players like Giggs, Neville and Scholes are the ones to look up to and demand the respect.

Why did Ronaldo choose AFTER the EC Final to become so undecisive? In my opinion, it's because he doesn't have to face Fergie and co in training the next day.

I love the lad on the field, in a United shirt. I've defended him continuously against allegations of diving, not performing in big games etc. He is without a doubt the best in the world at the moment and I really do hope he stays withus, which i think he will...but questions have to be asked about why such a fuss has been made, based on his very own comments. If it's for money.... he shouldn't have signed a new contract. If it's not and he's staying, it's been purely for attention. If he's going serious questions have to be asked about his loyalty and credibility.

This whole saga could easily have been avoided by the player, if he wanted it to have been.
Giggs, Nev and Scholes command respect; there's a distinct difference and certainly that's what sets them apart from some of the prima dona twats in the Prem these days.

As reliable as Marca then eh?
Anyone got some rope, I'll go first....
Still bitter at your username? Sheesh.

If he stays, he stays. If he goes, we've not got Kuntyon to feck up the deal for us so we'll get a decent one out of them.

That's the way I see it anyway. He's sat on the fence for long enough now. It's either us or them now. But in case you can see a different outcome please do share it with us.

At least I don't expect him to reveal that he suffers from polydactylism :D

The point is that there is no possible other outcome - so it was a bit of a non-post.

I'd agree with all of that.

Ideal world - 10 year contract, huge payout at the end based on him still being at Old Trafford unless we sell him by mutual consent.

Surprisingly a top post, probably the most sensible on this thread. Which I agree with totally.

I agree with Gus.

Could it be that Ronaldo has matured SO much, that he is deliberately getting the focus onto himself to give Portugal peace and quiet to prepare for the Euros? And at the same time keeping the vultures away from Gill and his entourage as they are making the signings of Ramos, Casillas and Benzema?

Wow, that is the most optimistic post I've ever posted :D

More silliness

Real Madrid's No7 plans may wreck deal for Man Utd star Ronaldo
tribalfooball.com - June 03, 2008

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon's intention to retire Raul's No7 shirt when the club captain eventually hangs up his boots could lead to Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo rejecting a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Calderon wants to retire Raul's No7 in recognition of his success with Real during his career and confirmed his plans last week.

However, it's unlikely Ronaldo's management will look kindly on the prospect of the Portuguese running around with anything but No7 on his back. The United star's multi-million pound merchandise rights lean heavily on his 'CR7' brand and the player, himself, admitted only this week he hoped to open a hotel known as 'CR7'.

Calderon said: "We do not know if he (Ronaldo) will join us. But Raul won't have to change his number. He is untouchable."

Jesus, that's the weakest story that has come up in this little saga yet!

Optimistic is certainly one word for it.:)

Thats insanely good that!

Well, at this point I can only guess that Ronaldo's "couple of days and then a "decision" will be made" is all about putting pressure on United to offer him a new contract that satisfies his thirst for even more cash to be had from having control over his image rights. A similar thing happened with Beckham if I am not mistaken.

2 days.

(which is the new "2 weeks"*)

*(c) G Neville Esq.

Actually, the UN just officially announced the inclusion of the new time zone, GNT (Gary Neville Time), where it's always "two weeks into the future". This new quote is just a clever ploy by Ronaldo to try to get in on the success of GNT by pushing through BTMT (Better Than Messi Time), that is two days.
