As much as I like him playing for United and flashing his great talent on the field, his inability to keep his mouth shut for one second is really irritating. When you think the rumor is starting to die down, he just comes out and speaks his dumb mind again.

Your username, there's something about it...

'A man, a plan, a canal, panama'

Yeah, that's it.

Yes, because Ronaldo is a redcafe fan , and he wants this thread to beat all records. He wants to be number one in whatever he does. This thread relates to him, so he will not keep his mouth shut.

P.S Bahama red is really ronaldo.

Im with Fergie. Ronaldo is at the right club. Due to the nature of Real Madrid and their boardroom issues it is a potential banana skin for him. He may regret a move and once he has left United there is usually no way back.

If Ronaldo's "agreement" with Blatter had truly been misinterpreted, why did it take a week for him to say that? I don't expect him to respond to every B.S. article that Marca, AS, the Sun, etc. But when virtually every media outlet is saying that you agreed with one of the most ignorant comments of the year, you don't wait a week to set the record straight.

It doesn't take much. Just have whatever publicist/PR firm send out a press release on the wire, clarifying his statements. No need to even come out with an interview clarifying it. A simple press release handles it. Surely he has some advisers calling him up and saying, "Ronnie, you're being made to look like you think millionaire athletes are equivalent to tortured slaves, that's not good for your image. Let's set the record straight."

With all the other stories, if he were to come out now and say that the interviews were taken out of context, so be it, as they were vague to begin with. But to let that misinterpretation fester for a week? I'm not buying it.

Totally agree. The problem is that the player seemingly doesn't agree. Fergie has obviously dealt with "problem" players many times, but I do wonder whether forcing him to stay will have a negative effect on the squad (in terms of morale and harmony). It's only that he's such a great player that I'd keep him, even though it would be my preference that he fecked off and we pocketed a shit load of money. I guess the bottom line (as always) is that you have to trust Fergie in what he's doing, although my opinion of "Ronaldo the man" has soured somewhat.

Definately the best player in the world at the moment. However if you are looking holistically then I would say no. His biggest let down is football intelligence.

Ronaldinho at his prime could not only dribble his way out of any tight spot, he could score and he could pick brilliant defence splitting passes. Ronaldo doesn't yet have that to his game. I'm yet to see him put in one like Dinho did in the CL semi-finals to Guily in 05/06.

Unless United adopted my, "If you love someone - set them free" contract strategy - under which Madrid get him for the knock-down price of 100m euros but the release clause in the contract says he can come back to United for a tenner and a box of Smarties (though I guess we could substitute Haribos for smarties as a gesture of international understanding).

Like a cross between a loan deal and a game of Russian Roulette.

:drool::drool:

eh? Ronaldo has said or done nothing so far to warrant my love again other than being forced to stay at united. He simply had no other option(thanks to Fergie and Gill). He would've had some of my respect if he acted like a man and stayed on his word instead of being an opportunistic cnut.

Like most on here you have spent so much time reading bullshit you end up believing it.

Like most on here you have spent so much time reading bullshit you end up believing it.
On the contrary. We've spent so much time on here that we've learnt to separate the truth from the fiction and its been an education for many of us.
The fact that this is a war between the two greatest clubs in the world and the best player in the world is what makes this so interesting. This saga is being followed worldwide and we're actually at the centre of it here at the caf, hence the 25,000 daily views we get on this topic.
So ease up on the criticism of those of us who post on here. Yes, there's a lot of bs about but there's also been more good discussioon than I've ever seen on the caf before, from caftards not usually involved in such things.
With caftards scatterd all over the world it doesn't take long for news to pop up here, the minute it comes out anywhere. I'm not one for indiscriminately posting as you can see from my post count prior to this thread. I'm hooked on this, yes, but for good reason.

Sir Alex Ferguson tells Cristiano Ronaldo to stay put at Manchester United

James Ducker in Durban

The debate surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's future intensified last night when Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United manager, claimed that the Portugal forward would be making the biggest mistake of his career if he joined Real Madrid.
Despite Ferguson's insistence - after clear-the-air talks with the player in Lisbon eight days ago - that Ronaldo would not be sold, Real have refused to concede defeat in their attempts to sign him and are said to be considering making an €85million (about £67.5million) offer. But with relations between the clubs at rock bottom, Ferguson launched another broadside by insisting that the Bernabéu would be the wrong environment for a player such as Ronaldo.
Ferguson had previously accused Real of having “no class or morals” in their relentless pursuit of Ronaldo and, given the volatile nature of the Spanish club, the United manager believes that the player should steer clear. “I think he knows genuinely where the best club is to be and that's Manchester United - it's the best one for him,” Ferguson said.
“I have a responsibility for all of my players and their futures are a big concern for a coach. If you are asking for advice and it was your son, you would give him the best advice possible. I believe that could be the worst thing he [Ronaldo] could do - go to Real Madrid. I think, at 23 years of age, he is at the right club.”
Having been told during their summit meeting that he would remain at United, Ronaldo risked incurring the manager's wrath by refusing to confirm whether he would be staying during a televised interview at the weekend, but Ferguson attempted to laugh the matter off yesterday by claiming that it was easy for young players to have their heads turned by the offer of vast riches.

“Young lads can be twisted by the talk of money and the moves that are happening all the time in modern-day football, but if you saw him after the [Champions League] final [in May], he was the happiest boy in the world,” Ferguson said. “The future is, he has signed a five-year contract and has four years left. That is definite. I have seen his signature.”
It is a reflection of Ronaldo's stature that, despite not being on United's pre-season tour to South Africa, talk about him continues to dominate the headlines. But Michael Carrick had some words of advice for his team-mate as the Portugal forward recovers from ankle surgery in the United States.
Carrick, who should be fit to face Orlando Pirates at the ABSA Stadium here this evening after missing United's draw against Kaizer Chiefs in Cape Town on Saturday because of a hamstring strain, believes that it would be foolhardy to leave a team on the brink of greatness. The England midfield player is convinced that United will add to the two Barclays Premier League titles and one Champions League crown they have won in the past two seasons and believes that Ronaldo has a big part to play.
When asked if Ronaldo would be making a mistake by leaving, Carrick said: “Knowing what the club is about, I would say yes. Everything that surrounds the club is moving in the right direction and we want to build on that. The best thing I have done is to come here. For me, it is a no-brainer.
“We drive ourselves on and we expect so much of each other and ourselves. People from outside who have nothing to do with us know what we are capable of and that means more European Cups and championships.”
The Premier League sent letters to United and Liverpool yesterday requesting their observations after Tottenham Hotspur lodged complaints about their respective pursuits of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, the forwards. Tottenham claim to have provided the Premier League with a 12-month dossier of evidence supporting their complaint about United over Berbatov.
Wes Brown, the United defender, will fly home tomorrow after the death of his pregnant half-sister, Amanda Fallows, 36, in hospital on Saturday."

Not much new I know but I'm concerned as to why the press aren't publishing the rest of the interview. Can't find any references to it anywhere.
"I saw his signature!" Gotta love Fergie....its like us saying we saw his lips move. :)

Chatting to my mate today about it, and he claims Ronaldo hasn't acted like a cnut. His take on things was that it is basically up to him if he desires to play for Madrid or not, but while he's been a United player he can't exactly come out and straight up say it, cause if Fergie doesn't wanna sell him then he's completely backed into a corner. On the other hand, he cant come out and seriously promise his future to United when he genuinely doesn't wanna stay here.

Sorry, but according to that if he acts like a cnut and talks like a cnut there's a good chance he is a cnut.
Great footballer though.

therse no doubt now ronaldo has been a complete prickwith all this. now its obvious even if he gives us one more year he cant be high in the united fans affection. let him do his year. we all know he;s going so loose the blind loyalty and treat him like he;s done our club. accept he'll do a job but is then off so no more adoration christiano. get your season in and feck off. you're not longer a gem in our crown. just a mercenary that has reluctantly agreed to do another year. score some goals. get some results and then feck off without the affection of the fans who would have defended you to the utmost degree. good bye. good riddance and give us the dosh t move on. but dont expect our love and devotion. you foresook that for the lure of real.

That's how many of us feel. Unless of course he u-turns completely, says how great United are and that he never wants to leave us. Then, well.........doubt it very much.

None of the press consider considered the rest of Ron's interview newsworthy (I've taken a quick look at the Spanish/Portuguese sites as well). So I guess ESPN were right about which bits they should put in their website trailer. The remarks aren't even covered on the SSN site as far as I can see, the full video isn't there and there's only a brief excerpt in the news bulletin now.

Anyone know if the full thing has been posted anywhere? I've checked ESPN Deportes but can only see the trailer there.

The Spanish press have picked up on the - it'd be the worst place for him - comments from SAF. Interestingly (to me ) the quotes go mostly unremarked / unspun - unlike the versions in the UK press who heard them as an admission of doubt.

How's the darts going BahamaRed?

Agree

Would you believe him if he said that? He'd need to show it, which obviously wouldn't be for certain for a few more years.

In the shorter term, to win back any affection at all from me, he'd need to completely change his personality on the pitch. Head down, work his butt off, no diving, no 'look at me' gloating.

Of course it would take more than a year cos we'd have to see if it all started up again next year. If not there's a chance he could retrieve his adoration.
For now, if he scores goals like last year and shows the same skills, that'll be enough for me to at least accept him as part of the team.

Ferguson warns 'worst thing' for Ronaldo would be Real move

Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday warned Cristiano Ronaldo that leaving for Real Madrid would be the "worst thing" possible for his career.
The 23-year-old Portuguese has made no secret of his desire to leave Manchester United for Madrid since helping the Premier League champions lift the European Cup at the end of last season, and reacted with another noncommittal statement about his future at the weekend, responding to Ferguson's assertion that he would not be leaving the club by suggesting that "only God knows" where he will play next season.
Ferguson, speaking here before United's friendly against Orlando Pirates at the Absa Stadium tonight, appeared to have progressed from exasperation to indifference when asked about the future of the winger, who will be sidelined until October after ankle surgery. "If you were asked for advice for your son you would give him the best advice, and the worst thing Ronaldo could do, at the age of 23, is to go to Real Madrid," he said. "He is already at the right club - a fantastic football club - and the future is that he has signed a five-year contract and has four years left. That's definite because I have seen his signature.
"In the modern day young lads can be twisted by the talk of money, but if you saw Ronaldo after the Champions League final he was the happiest boy in the world. When you have young players you want the best for them and you want to do the best for them, and I genuinely believe I know what the best club in the world is for him and that is Manchester United. There shouldn't be any need to go to Real Madrid."
Ronaldo's refusal to accept United's stance has eroded his standing among the club's supporters, who are split on whether he should be sold or retained. But a majority are keen to see Ferguson to emerge as the victor, if only to ensure that Ronaldo must wait a year longer to achieve his ambition of playing for Real.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have given the Premier League a dossier of evidence dating back to last year to back up their complaint against United's pursuit of Dimitar Berbatov. Spurs have also been angered by Liverpool's pursuit of Robbie Keane, and the two clubs will respond in writing to the complaints before the league decides whether they must face a charge.
Ferguson insisted that there was "no news" on Berbatov but admitted that adding to his squad had proved difficult after signing Owen Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson and Carlos Tevez last summer.
"We did a lot of stocking up last summer, buying four players of good ages as part of a policy of bringing in footballers who could develop, and we think there is further progress there," said the manager. "I had 23 players in Moscow and they will still be there for this season because we are happy with the squad. It is difficult for us to buy and improve on that because we know why clubs don't want to sell their best players and we don't either."

Love how the Fergie handles himself.

thing is, if he has another season like he just did and we win another double, the fans will still be signing viva ronaldo all season long. and they should.

face it, 95% of footballers are mercs. that is what you get at the pro ranks. i don't hold it against ronnie for wanting to go to madrid.

those who say 'then why sign the 5 year contract'. any player will do so due to the fact that one bad tackle, and you might not have the insurance of a garunteed contract. football is a high risk and short term career.

look at OH. OH could've ran his contract down and came to us for pennies. but he re-signed 12 months before he moved to us, thereby making us pay 18 million quid.

for me, ronnie will do the business on the pitch next season because he is ultra-driven to be the best and be a winner. if he wants to start up ths stuff again next summer, i don't care. it'll once again be the club's responsibility to do the cost/benefit analysis in terms of keeping him another year after next season or selling him then.

just because he's our best player, is why people are getting upset. if this was some reserve lad, he'd be out the door in an instant.

Er, I think that's what this is all about.....and not only our best player but the world's best player.

435 pages and still only God knows.

Seriously, why does he come up with those comments every single time? Even if he's a Christian and a deep believer, it's not true that his future is out of his hands and God has it sorted out somehow. His life must be a bit boring if every single thing that happens to him was bound to happen anyway, it's like he has no choices.

He also strikes me as a thick person.

He's supposed to be the next David Beckham in terms of marketing but honestly he has nothing on Beckham as a person.

It's easy to overlook Jermaine Pennant when taking about fantastic wingers. I an convinced that given a chance at Liverpool he could easily score 40+ goals for them. His form has dipped since joining the dippers, and i believe that he is the biggest wasted talent in the prem today. There is no doubt in my mind that the 'undisclosed player' that saf has placed a bid for is JP, he would be the ideal replacement for whatshisname, bringing us more pace, flair, and goals than we could ever dream of.

No prizes for guessing where that info comes from; they're all trawling this thread on the Caf. Careful what you post guys.

David Beckham as an intellectual? Heinrich Himmler as President of the Simon Wiesenthal Institute?
