Anybody else starting to hate the sight of him?

Most of my contributions in this thread have been defending him and I still hope - for footballing reasons - he stays put.

But he really is turning into a jumped up little shit and swanning around LA, on crutches, when he's supposed to be recuperating from an operation is fecking disgraceful behaviour. If/when he does leave I'll be glad to see the back of him.

Nobody Loves Ronaldo!

July 17, 2008

Nobody loves Ronaldo anymore it seems - apart from his mum, Sepp Blatter, Ramon Calderon, that Majorcan bird and Michel Platini. A motley bunch indeed.
Wesley Sneijder, Real’s Dutch playmaker, when asked about the prospect of the Portuguese winger joining him at Los Merengues was less than enthusiastic in a recent interview with Spanish paper AS:
“It would be bad for the squad if one player had a much higher salary than the rest….I do not think that Madrid need to sign anyone. In the final games of last season we were very solid and the team showed it has grown a lot.”
“I have seen Ronaldo disappear in some of Manchester United’s big games.”
“I am not criticising because I just want to point out that a player cannot be at the same level all year round.”
Hmm, right Wes!
That is tantamount to saying: “Don’t expect me to be serving up your paella if you end up here, mate.”
Sneijder has more reason that most to fear the arrival of Ronaldo, given that his name was mentioned a few weeks back as a possible make-weight in the deal to bring the United player to the Bernabeu.
At the time he made it plain that he had no interest in leaving the Spanish champions after such a short tenure. If he stays, however, Ronaldo is one more name - and a big name - on the squad list competing for a place in the starting line up.
Sneijder is ‘covering his ass’ - and with good reason. Training sessions could be very tasty between those two if Cristiano arrives in Madrid.
The Dutchman’s comments make it fairly obvious that Ronaldo wouldn’t be welcomed with any great appetite by other Madrid players. Which - if we think about it - is a fairly odd situation.
Normally, if your club spends money and shows ambition you would expect fellow squad members to at least appear enthusiastic - it should act as a morale booster to see that the club is looking to consolidate its and your success.
The interminable fuss and nonsense around the transfer of Ronaldo, however, seems to have exasperated all parties involved.
If you read the Real Madrid press, blogs and forums it’s clear that many Madrid fans do not think spending such a Gargantuan wedge of money on one player makes any sense at all for the club. They too, like Sneijder, fear the unsettling impact Ronaldo’s arrival could have on the team.
At home, most United fans’ attitudes towards Ronaldo have changed irrevocably. Many want him to go and believe the interests of United would be best served that way. Others still hanker for him to stay - but only out of a grudging acknowledgment of his talent. In the unlikely event that he does stick around there will be far less choruses of ‘Viva Ronaldo’ - of that you can be sure.
Given the arrogance and self-importance that the young Portuguese player has allowed himself to develop these past few years, we’re not inclined to feel an awful lot of sympathy for Ronaldo.
He’s made it abundantly clear - if never having the balls to say it outright - that he thinks he has served his term at United and wants to make the move to Real Madrid (a move he, erroneously, considers an upwards one.)
His self assurance must surely have taken something of a knock these past few weeks as it dawns on him that in agitating for the move to Madrid in such a gauche way, he has lost many fans and created a PR disaster where there should have been PR sensation.
Still, we’re sure his massive salary assuages the hurt somewhat.

I love the Sneijder quotes

Real are fecking idiots this whole thing is pure desperation from Calderon because he knows his feet arent going to touch the ground if he doesnt bring in a big name this summer. Real couldnt really give a shit about Ronaldo they want him to prove to the world that they still have the appeal to the 'Galactico' players..

The fact that Ronaldo cant see that shows how much he believes his own hype and is concerned with image and myth building than anything else.

Sneijder will be of those attempted to be sold by Madrid if they need to sell a few players to finance a bid for Ronaldo and he knows it

feck ME, some yank interviewed Ronnie on ssn and asked him the STUPIDEST questions possible.

Anyone else hear Ronaldo make the same comment about joining LA Galaxy as he did Real?

"The future, you never know"

:o Oh Nooooooooooeeeeeessss he wants to play with Beckham :(

Ronaldo, aided and abetted by Calderon has made a right tit of himself this summer. He has followed the plan (as reported on 22 June http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/06/22/sfnfro122.xml ) by making ambiguous statements of intent (in order to save his agents bonus) and he has kept his specific obligation to keep on making life as unbearable as possible for United.

But United's intransigence and RMs money problems have stopped the deal going through. Meanwhile Ronaldo has alienated just about every sensible person in football to such a degree that his sponsors must be getting worried. The general perception now is that he is a preening, arrogant, self-obsessed, idiotic prat and perceptions like that do not sell products. Even 6 year olds are saying that Ronaldo is not cool anymore.

So, although I want him to go, I want it to be next year. I want him to have to come back and face SAF, his team mates and the fans. I want him to suffer like we have. I want him to realise for the first time in his life that he cannot have all his own way just because he is Ronaldo.

You're sad.

You're a fecking tool.

Tell me, how much do you know about the importance of rest and elevation with regards to the healing of recently operated upon, weight-bearing joints?

And while you're at it, I wouldn't mind hearing your opinion on the relative risk of deep-vein thrombosis as a result of long-haul flights, after recent surgery.

It's negligent maybe even counter productive.

as for "fecking disgraceful"

well that I don't know, sounds like you're highly emotional.

My opinion on the relative risk of DVT is as follows, he is in excellent physical condition, he doesn't smoke, he's at a a young age and on top of all this, I'm sure he doesn't fly economy.

He was probably on his private jet stretched out, wearing compression socks.

im sure i read somewhere that ronaldo will be able to return to training in a month....anyone got a link to the doctor saying that?

Two weeks on crutches and then he goes for a scan after a month to see how it's healing. Ron thinks he'll be allowed to kick a ball again in two months.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese physio who's supervising him for United (until that one month check-up), is trying to stop Ron working too hard in the gym. I doubt the LA trip was quite what he meant though.

Seriously, his team mates train with him everyday, some even probably chill with him after training (Nani, Anderson) I doubt there is anything about Ronaldo that they don't already know.... It's the fans that no nothing about the players nobody else!! His team mates are unlikely to start hating on him are they?!

It's all part of the disrespect he's showing to the club that are still paying his wages, IMO. He should be staying at home, with his leg up, working hard on his daily physio and doing his best to get fit for the new season. Not poncing round LA on crutches, trying to get photographed at all the best parties.

I would call that "fecking disgraceful" and yeah, I might be getting emotional but that's the way I feel when i see someone being so disrepectful to SAF and MUFC.

Cristiano Ronaldo will definitely be out of action for at least three months, the Portuguese national team physiotherapist has said.

The Manchester United winger, the subject of a bitter transfer wrangle between the Premier League champions and Spanish suitors Real Madrid, underwent surgery on his right ankle last Monday.

And on Sunday, Portugal physiotherapist Antonio Gaspar told Spanish sports daily AS: "Cristiano Ronaldo will not be in an optimum state for the competition until 12 weeks are up."

He added: "We are going to use everything that is possible to us and that will help him recover as quickly as possible.

"He is working very well and he is optimistic.

"These first four weeks he will do the rehabilitation work in my clinic. After the first month, the Manchester United doctors will carry out another exam."

Gaspar added: "I want it to be made very clear that I am only involved with Ronaldo's recuperation and that I am in permanent contact with the medical department at Manchester United, with the Dutchman Niek van Dijk (the specialist who performed the operation) and with (Portugal team doctor) Henrique Jones.

"Any other information or the medical aspect about his injury are only and exclusively the concerns of Manchester United."

I don't think "disgrace" is very fair, but we keep hearing how "professional" Ronaldo is, yet as Pogue says, he's fecking off to LA to be pictured at the best parties.

Again, as Pogue says, he needs to be resting up, and getting himself fully fit again, not pissing about on the other side of the ocean. At a time when he should be keeping a relatively low profile, he seems to be doing everything he can to be courting the world's media. That's disappointing, but not particularly surprising.

I feel exactly the same mate. At first I wanted him out ASAP because I was scared his value may never be as high as it is now, and it probably wont be. But now the extra dosh wont be worth half as much as the satisfaction I'll have when I see his humiliation next year, it'll be fecking brilliant... :D

What really makes it a disgrace to me is that I can't shake the nagging suspicion that he's in no hurry to get over this injury while he is still signed to United and that he wouldn't be poncing round the world on crutches if he was expected back at Real Madird for pre-season.
