I'm bleeding to death because my tits have just fallen off from laughing.
They did this "we've gone straight to the Glazers" bit a month or so ago, right before the 7th July date was announced.
I'm puzzled as to how exactly they would manage to contact the Glazers directly, or how La Marca would manage to break this story with their extensive contacts inside the Glazer home in Palm Beach, Florida as well as inside Old Trafford. So far those contacts have shown their unerring accuracy during this saga - no reason to doubt them now!
I'm also puzzled as to how exactly they think anyone would be so stupid as to believe this. It was Real who said he was worth 500m to them in marketing in the next year.
The Glazers are businessmen. They're going to sell an asset that will make them 500m for a fifth of that (at best), because AFTER MAKING THE 500m they would have to sell him for less in a year?
Lets take that idea at face value (I fail to see how a player's value would significantly drop because instead of FOUR years on a contract, he has THREE), and say he'll only be worth 20m next year.
Some simple maths:
100m transfer fee in 2008 = 100m
500m marketing profits throughout the season = 500m
20m transfer fee in 2009 = 20m
100m > 20m.
This is what La Marca uses as their evidence that The Operation is certain to succeed.
But even the most thick of the thick should realise that the 20m would be on top of that 500m that Real claims he is worth in marketing in the next season.
520m > 100m.
Try again, Calderon.
Shame on the Beeb and other allegedly respectable media outlets for running this crap.
