Does there not become a point where we have to sell due to affect Ronaldo staying might have on team morale?

Ronaldo has shown he sees himself as untouchable, I reckon many of our players might feel slightly annoyed at that, especially given a fair few of them have achieved a hell of a lot more than Ronaldo has so far.

As long as Ronnie delivers, i don't think there will be any problem. Although morale is vital for success, the other players will still respect his footballing abilities despite his actions. Every single player in the squad is bound to have differences in the squad, look at Cole and Sheringham, Ballack and Drogba, Ruud and Ronnie, to name a few.

Scholes, Giggs and Gaz have all achieved more but if Ronaldo can continue to be a major force in their success then they will put up with him regardless. Obviously there is a limit to which teammates will endure bolox from other players but in the majority of cases, the overall success of the team will be the defining factor.

We don’t need Ronaldo - Sneijder

Real Madrid star Wesley Sneijder believes that a move for Cristiano Ronaldo would create a bad atmosphere within the squad.

Sneijder feels Ronaldo is one of the top talents in world football and would be a fantastic addition to the squad, but feels his wage packet would cause unrest in the camp.

The midfielder would prefer Ronaldo to stay at Manchester United as he believes the Spanish champions’ squad is brimming with talent.

When asked if Ronaldo’s arrival would disrupt the dressing room’s harmony, Sneijder said: “The truth is yes, a bit. It’d be bad for the dressing room because he would earn better wages than the rest of the squad.

“It wouldn’t be a problem to me, but some team-mates wouldn’t fancy it. Here we have players like him, [Arjen] Robben and Robinho for example.

“For sure I want to play with Cristiano, but the dressing room’s harmony has to be maintained.”

The Holland international is convinced Los Merengues can taste glory without Ronaldo in their ranks.

“To me this Madrid side doesn’t need to make signings,” he added. “We’ve been very solid and the team has improved.

“This squad is quite strong and is going to be even better next year.

“Cristiano is a great player, he is quality and him coming at Madrid would be welcomed by the entire group.

“But right now nobody can say anything because speaking well about him shows a lack of respect to the players we have and Real Madrid have talented ones.”

Sneijder has urged Real to keep hold of Chelsea target Robinho, as he feels he is on a par with Ronaldo.

“I don’t know but I want Robinho stay at Madrid because I think he’s almost as good as Cristiano Ronaldo.

“People criticise Robinho for not having shone in big games, but Cristiano did the same when I watched Manchester’s important games.

“It’s not a criticism. I’m just trying to explain that a player can’t be at his best all the time.”

I'm going to have to stop reading the news papers and watching SSN, !!

I was actually guilty of starting to believe that and bid of Robinho plus cash would be a good deal for us ! :wenger:

Got help me, I'm being brain washed.

Anyone get the feeling he's been told to say all that to lay the ground work for Calderon pulling the "deal" because they aren't getting anywhere?

Yes.

Put down that spade, Real Madrid, and stop digging.

Hilarious the way Calderon et al use their players as mouth-pieces in this whole PR offensive, aimed at their own fecking fans. Cringey stuff.

So, Ronaldo, get back, and build those bridges. 'Spoons, you're amazing, I'd love to share my birds with you', would be a great start.

Man Utd 'ready to discuss Ronaldo deal'
21:27 AEST Wed Jul 16 2008

Manchester United may finally be ready to talk about selling Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, the Spanish sports newspaper Marca reported.

The Glazer family, which bought the club in 2004, "has agreed to the operation," as they feel his value could decrease if they hold onto him, it said, quoting sources close to the affair.

Real Madrid are believed to be prepared to offer around 85 million euros ($A137 million) for the 23-year-old, who is under contract at United until 2012, and pay him nine million euros on a five-year deal.

Ronaldo, a boyhood Real fan, has consistently been linked with a move to the Spanish capital since the end of last season, after scoring an impressive 42 goals last term as United won both the Premier League and Champions League.

Tomorrow should be the time Ronaldo announces he wants to leave the club according to Marca.

“It’s not a criticism. I’m just trying to explain that a player can’t be at his best all the time.”

Calderon tells Sneijder to say this because :
1. They can not afford Ronaldo despite all the talk.
2. They do not need Ronaldo because Robinho is almost as good
( according to them and specifically for the consumption of Madrid fans )
3. They don't want him because the wage's will be out of line with the players already there.

Back pedalling flat out, that will leave Ronaldo at United with a once adoring set of rans now upset at the lack of respect to United and its fans
He will have a lot more to do than score a couple of goals to recover the status he was held in by the fans. The fact that he said that in itself is disrespectful implying the fickle attitude of his and Uniteds fan base, sadly in some cases he is correct as we have seen on this forum many times, but sadly for him the majority of United's real fans are not so fickle and have much longer memories.
Most United fans will support anyone in a United shirt but I dont expect
him to be adored the way he was, and I for one will not join in should Viva Ronaldo be sung, I will cheer his goals, I shall applaud his good play, but his path towards legendary status at United has been very badly damaged, maybe beyond repair.
I did think Rio had damaged his status as a potential United legend with his behaviour resulting in a ban, I think he has gone about things in the right way and for many of us he is forgiven, certainly his attempts to repair the damage are largely successful.
I personally think even if Ronaldo stays it is only a relatively short time before he goes, hopefully the next saga will not be handled so badly, it isnt all about him wanting to go to his so called boyhood team ( and the accuracy of that statement is open to question ) that has caused the damage, its about the way he has gone about it, and to make sure he pissed off the most people possible, he then aligned himself alongside the "Mad Blatter's" insulting and ridiculous slave comments.

Tomorrow should be the time Ronaldo announces he wants to leave the club according to Marca.

They're probably right. If him and his agent want to move then they've got to do something dramatic as there is no sign that United are budging.

I would not surprised if Ronaldo says something publicly in the next 24 hours.

If he really wants to move then he could announce he has put in a transfer request. At least in that scenario United would get more cash if they agree to sell as they don't have to give him a cut.

They're bluffing. They said that Ronaldo was joining them on the 7th of july. When that never happened they changed it to something happening on the 17th instead. If nothing happens tomorrow it will be the 27th and so on.

Anytime the say that Ronaldo will sign on such a date then it's obviously bullshit.

But they may well know that Ronaldo will make a public statement on a certain date as Madrid are no doubt prompting him and his agent as part of their "operation".

So cannavaro has spoke against the move and now Sneijder (who before was pro Ronaldo) before. They're full of shit madrid and still they have not made an offer :)

Not even after Ronaldo agreed with Blatter....it's quite funny that.

Manchester United's owners, the Glazer family, are set to enter negotiations with Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo, according to reports.

Spanish newspaper Marca today claimed that sources close to the Americans, who bought the Old Trafford club in 2004, said that the Glazers have "agreed to the operation", fearing Ronaldo's value will decrease if they hold onto him.
Cristiano Ronaldo - Cristiano Ronaldo move to Real Madrid is 'agreed' by Manchester United owners
Real deal: Ronaldo could soon realise his boyhood dream to move to Real

The Portugal winger, 23, has made little secret of his desire to move to the Spanish champions and last week supported Fifa president Sepp Blatter's controversial comments that he was being treated as "modern-day slave" by United, who have so far refused to grant his wish to leave Old Trafford.

Ronaldo is currently recuperating from a recent ankle operation in his native Portugal which will keep him sidelined until October, although it has not dented Real's interest in the player, who scored 42 goals last season, helping United to glory in the Premier League and Champions League.

Real Madrid are believed to be prepared to offer around £67.5 million for Ronaldo, who is under contract at United until 2012, and pay him £7 million on a five-year deal.

But Real president Ramon Calderon has insisted his club will only pay what is fair should United finally bow into the player's demands and agree to do business.

He said: ""You can't spend anything because he is a player that is not for sale. It is not about Real Madrid but Manchester and the player. If he wants to go, then we will be attentive if it is for a reasonable price

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I bet that MARCA have a lot of contacts inside Old Trafford, and inside the Glazers mansion in Florida

Jesus, the amount of blatant lies that get printed during the transfer window.

I love the way the media here treat Marca as gospel.

Haven't they learnt from the last time Marca lied which was that Madrid had agreed a fee with us

Strangely enough Ramon Calderon has denied the claim when talking to BBC radio 5 live.

Didn't Marca already claim the Glazers agreed to enter talks weeks ago? What a rubbish paper. There are no 'sources close to the Glazers', and if there were, they certainly wouldn't be talking to Marca.
