22nd May - United had been playing Chelsea for 26 minutes when Ron scored. Adoring fans singing Viva Ronaldo. Obvious choice for FIFA World Player. Fit as a butcher's whippet and never injured. Rumours that this girlfriend was the ONE. All that and a marketeer's dream. Top of the world.

8 weeks?

Turns out he was already injured and was in fact injured enough that it'll put him out of the game for months. Girlfriend going/gone. Angry United fans. Unenthusiastic Madrid fans. Nothing special in the Euros. Lots of potential World Player voters looking at the alternatives (Olympics anyone). And if anyone's expecting to sell a CR shirt (in any colour) then they'll need a great discount strategy.

Football eh? Bloody hell.

I still think he'll end up staying. United Vs Madrid? Club + contract Vs Player + moodswing? I don't think it's something United want to lose (in a couple of years time it'll be important that no one gets to debate why their contract doesn't really count because SAF is leaving etc etc).

So I try to visualise him playing for us next season and wonder if we'll ever find ourselves, if not singing then at least, humming Viva Ronaldo again. Oddly enough I can. Picture the scene. He's hobbled his way back to fitness after a couple of false starts and re-injuries from trying too hard and letting himself get kicked in an effort to prove something. A hostile away crowd on his back and singing Madrid songs to us - and he scores, saluting the opposition fans in a way you just know is going to get him a ban. I'd sing, I would, cool and scorned would go out the window, and I'd sing - I just would.

About 8 weeks after he comes back from injury - I reckon.

Probably would be the scenario... I'll hold you to that!! Hopefully Berbatov comes up with the assit for his 1st goal of the season!!

Bosman Says "Let Ronaldo Go"

15036327.jpg

Jean-Marc Bosman has warned that football in Europe risks returning to the "middle ages" if players lose the rights he won for them.

The landmark 'Bosman ruling' at the European Court of Justice in 1995 entitled footballers to a free transfer at the end of their contracts.

Bosman - who played for a Belgium club - claimed 'restraint of trade' because his club refused to let him go until they were offered a big enough transfer fee.

It has changed the way clubs negotiate contracts with star players.

He told Sky News: "I think you must not retain a player against his will."

Cristiano Ronaldo is under contract to Manchester United until 2012, but wants a move to Real Madrid.

But last week, in an exclusive interview with Sky News, the Fifa president Sepp Blatter said the current post-Bosman practice of tying players to long contracts amounts to "modern slavery".

He said: "They cannot, under any pretext, negotiate on these conditions because football is clearly a recognised economic activity.

"I do not wish that the whole world again nicknames us 'Old Europe'."

Bosman, 43, eventually received a £300,000 settlement from the Belgian Football Federation after claiming his career had been ended prematurely.

Manchester United have insisted Ronaldo is not on sale and must stay to see out his contract at Old Trafford. The Portugal star could be out of action for twelve weeks after undergoing an operation on his ankle in Amsterdam last week.

Ronnie's foot healing by the minute

I'm surprised the media hasn't already reported that what with his foot now apparently healing, it is yet another sign he will be playing football for Real Madrid next year.

"The Real Heel" would be the Sun's headline.

I actually am surprised that the media hasn't done this one yet, so those of you in the media trying to figure out what to write in order to keep moving those commemorative pitchforks, here you go.

Ronaldo Is DEFINITELY Going Conspiracy Theory #195743646.

Rumour long had it that his girlfriend was pushing the move because she happened to be Spanish (typical provincial bullshit, but moving on...). Then it turned out she was dreading a potential move because she was once Sergio Ramos' disposable cum bucket.

Now Ronaldo has dumped the Spanish beauty and former Real Madrid star body-fluid guzzler.

Could he be cleaning the slate (and the furniture) in order to not be mocked at his new club by notorious practical joker (and one-time sperm donor) Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos?

I should do this for a living. I wonder if Rupert Murdoch is hiring...anyone got a spare Nazi armband I can borrow for the interview?

Thank you for your opinion.

We'll let you know when we give a flying feck what you think.

PS. Your landlord has just repossessed your flat - seizing everything in it as his own - and your wife has taken every penny in your bank account and ran off with your best friend.

You just need to understand that contracts have no place in modern society, so your lease agreement and your marriage contract have absolutely no validity and are morally and ethically wrong.

Enjoy life on the streets.

Your wife and I are having a great time in the Cayman Islands, and your landlord has just gotten 13k on ebay for your testimonial football signed by the 'Slaves XI' as captained by Sol Campbell.

Calderon thinks Robinho worths more than 60 millions

"There are no news on the Robinho matter because the player is not unhappy at the club," Calderón said.

He further commented on the alleged €60million bid launched by Chelsea for Robinho, declaring it unsatisfactory as the player is "worth a lot more than such a figure".
The press then asked him to comment on how much he would be willing to spend for Ronaldo.

"You can't spend anything because he is a player that is not for sale. It is not about Real Madrid but Manchester and the player. If he wants to go, then we will be attentive if it is for a reasonable price," he added.

My question is how much they think Ronaldo would cost then?

A reasonable price????????

A taste of his own medicine, I hope Real lose Robinho and dont get Ronaldo, will prove the Prem's superiority. And will ensure Ramon feck Face Calderon will be out on his ass in the near future

He's still banking on Ron to throw in the transfer request, so that Real can bargain down the price. It's pretty obvious they do not have remotely close to the 60mil or whatever the media claims they can offer.

Most likely, Madrid cant afford Ronaldo and now they try to get as much money for Robinho as possible, will be interesting to see whether Chelsea will be that stupid and pay that price

It's not a matter of stupidity, they have Roman, they can buy himfor whatever price, if Real don't get Ronaldo and lose Robinho they will be lying in the gutter with 2 black eyes, and I reckon they will never pull this shit with Ronaldo again, because if this happens the fan backlash their will be extraordinary

In less than 2 week it'll be confirmed by Sir Alex and Ronnie that he is staying

There is nothing to confirm mate. The lad is on a long 4 year contract and that didnt change.

The one who will confirm this after the circus they have created with stupid and no sense news are the media.

I'm not sure. I think Chelsea calmed down a bit and I'm not sure whether they would pay double than the player's worth anymore. So if Robinho is worth around 20m, I doubt they'd pay 40m anymore or like they would have done in the past. But we'll see.

I agree that RM cant afford to lose Robinho and not sign Ronaldo

In all honesty, to poach Robinho from Madrid as madrid fail in their pursuit of Ronaldo, would put Chelsea on the map as a REAL big team for the first time, till this poin thtey have been pretenders

i doubt that chain of event will prove anything more than the fact Chelsea will keep buying their way to success.

Scolari comes with great rapport among the Portuguese and Brazilian players and it's no surprise he's able to lure these players to the club. Whether or not they are a real big team will depend on their results at the end of the year - much more than their transfer successes.

Chelsea and United are the top of totem pole along with Madrid, Barcelona, and Milan at the moment, when you consider the EPL also has huge clubs in Liverpool and Arsenal, it's easy to see why the EPL is so big

All this no sense rumour about Robinho going to chelsea seems to me like shit made up by the media as the Ronaldo deal its all frozen and reached a dead point (even the media got bored to create shit rumours about it anymore).

If the rumours were true Chelsea would have offloaded many players that wouldnt be required in Scolari plans (Malouda, SWP as best examples)

why they can afford the transfers and the salaries, they play by a different set of rules, but sooner or later will end up like Leeds once Papa Roman says au revoir

definitely not if you count the number of fans worldwide as compared to the other clubs you mentioned above.

the only attraction they have to top players is the money they can offer and of course the possibility to win things. hence why i said they will judged by their results in competitions, not the transfer successes before the window closes.

Ronaldo is worth more than twice what Robinho is worth. If Madrid think they can raise money to buy Ronaldo by flogging him off to Chelsea then they better keep the details of the transfer secret otherwise we will shave their balls off with whatever they receive for Robinho.

On a side note with Ruud getting on a bit, I wonder if we could flog Saha to Madrid, £13mil should smooth the deal.

If Robinho is worth that and Robbie Keane is currently worth an LFC record fee, then Ronaldo is worth South America.

Do Spain still own South America? Maybe a swap deal is still possible.

The more you lot read do you not see how much of an idiotic tool Calderon is, and how much of a disaster and train wreck he has made of this?

They have no money, yet they've priced themselves out of the market for the one player they've make clear they desperately want, they've told us that in one year of marketing he's worth five times the insane fee they originally bandied about, they've informed the world he's the only player they'll buy, and they're now claiming a player with a third of the talent of the one they want is worth 60m (an amount they don't even have to get Ronaldo).

Calderon promised that in his first summer (2006) he would bring in Kaka, Ronaldo, Fabregas and Robben. It was a done deal.

He's starting to panic, and this is a last gasp now before there is a revolt and a forced election (there should have been one over the summer). He made too many outlandish promises and he's seen to have delivered nothing.

Its like the wife says - worry when Real go all quiet and stop saying retarded contradictory things in the press. THEN something is up. Otherwise they are just acting like tits in the vain hope that something lucky or stupid will happen (like a transfer request, or buckling to a fan revolt).

In the new Real Madrid transfer pricing system, Saha would be worth about 35m.

As a side note, wasn't Robinho angry at Real for using him as a carrot with the Ronaldo thing?

What happens if he turns in a transfer request? Will Calderon promptly show he is a man of honour and principles and begin negotiations to sell his little slave boy?

I don't really see that as much as I see it showing that the mighty have fallen - or have returned to their true status after a few years of actually living up to the lies.

Madrid are a paper tiger right now. They're in a horrible league, they've been average at best in Europe ever since they dumped us out in 2003.

Their glory is built on a 7-8 year period in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and a 5-6 year period at the turn of the century in which although they won the European Cup three times they nearly destroyed their club financially and tore the soul from it perhaps for good.

They are supposed to be this great all-time dominant force, right?

Look at Europe. Yes, 9 wins. No one else is near it.

But look a little closer:

1956-1960 - five European Cups in five years.
1966 - makes six in 11 years.
1998, 2000, 2002 - Three in five years - nearly bankrupt and still skint because of it.

Does astonishing dominance for two short periods constitute true dominance all-time, making you the greatest club in the history of world football for ever and ever?

Hell, they lost a European final to Aberdeen for God's sake!

Real Madrid is largely a myth of a club.

Sure, they're one of the 'big' European clubs. But this bullshit aura about somehow being the greatest team on the planet is the biggest lie since the one about Czechoslovakia definitely being the last place the guy with the silly mustache wanted to move into.

They are trying to value Robinho at £60m so they can later try to include him in a swap deal with Ronaldo. £20m+Robinho=£80m = A LOAD OF SHIT!

United's silence seems to be paying off big time.

We have kept our own counsel and let Madrid and their hoes do all the jibba-jabbering to the extent that they have inadvertently forced themselves to step up to the plate and it appears that none of them has any cojones to do so.

Funny indeed

Uruguay are a big team. They are massive, have won more world cups than England,France and current European champions Spain put together.

They are massive, no disrespect intended.

Other than trophy collections and football dominance, a football club's success can also be measured by their fan base.

The number of fans that follow the team makes up what we like to call traditions and heritage.

Liverpool has won no league title for almost 20 years, yet the number of fans keep growing. Their marketing plans are probably the worst among the rich clubs, yet their fan base keeps growing yearly. If their board had a clue on how to reap profits from this fact, they may have been much further than United in terms of worldwide support.

Because of their fans, Madrid is not a myth of a club. They are in top echelon of football in that sense and most clubs would sell their souls to have that many fans. Even Blatter is their top fan.

Chelsea on the other hand... is a myth of a big club in every sense of their existence.

Very wise and insightful, RUnited.

Does there not become a point where we have to sell due to affect Ronaldo staying might have on team morale?

Ronaldo has shown he sees himself as untouchable, I reckon many of our players might feel slightly annoyed at that, especially given a fair few of them have achieved a hell of a lot more than Ronaldo has so far.

Your trying to be over critical they have won 9 european cups ffs. They are a big club no two ways.

However I mean they did win half of their european cups when it first started and when some teams didn't even opt into the european cup. Also they feckin stole their best player off barcalona illegally in di stefano. They don't deserve to have 9 european cups but they have and on paper it seems a great record.

If SAF can live with him and puts him on the field, I don't think other players will have a problem playing with him.
