Obviously, we're all waiting to hear what this new is - with baited breath - but if it turns out to be announcing his commitment to a contract extension with MUFC, certain contributors to this thread will feel kind of silly.
And why would we feel silly. United is our club. Ronnie, BPITW, is a United player. Half the world thinks he is leaving us, including most of the professional press...Guardian, Observer, Telegraph, Times etc.....Ronnie's had many opportunities to come out and squash all rumours, but he hasn't. Yes, he said he'd stay but he's also about to make an announcement?! So what's all that about then? Announce what? That he's got six toes? I won't feel silly. Just abused.

well said

Think so. Was using a bit of poetic license with those quotes but I'm fairly sure he was rumoured to have said something about news in 2 or 3 days time, either yesterday or the day before.

I'd imagine he wants things stabilised before the Euro's. It's got to be distracting to have MARCA journalists stalking him and other Portugal players about the move to Madrid just days before their first game.

That's another thing that makes me doubt Ronaldo will declare tomorrow that he is going to Madrid this summer no matter what. The Portugal team would be even more infested with Spanish journalists if he did that.

How many fecking times does it have to be pointed out that he can't squash all these rumours, so long as he's attempting to squeeze a new contract out of the club?

Whatever about Ronnie's ambiguity making you fell "abused", I feel abused from having to fecking repeat this last point about a hundred times in this
damn thread already!

As for this "announcement", presumably he wants to announce he is ready to sign a new contract. Or maybe he really does have 6 fecking toes?!

Let's what and see shall we?

IMO, this is preferable to acting like a bunch of lovesick teenage girls, crying into their Kia-ora, after spotting the class hottie with some girl's name on his pencil case.

Spot on. Even if Ronaldo stays or signs a new contract the things which agitated me about the situation will still remain.

I think people need to chill. If he is angling for a new contract he is only playing it coy just as Ferdinand and Keane have done before him. He is probably doing exactly what his agent has told him to do. Give the boy a chance before slating him! Christ.

I'm worried that he might leave but I'm not going to abuse his good character and ostracise him for doing what many players have done before. Treat him like we have treated Rio in the past and there is every chance he will just feck off.

What professional press? Do you honestly believe there's such thing?

Ronnie had a couple of opportunities to say "I'm staying" and I believe he did that.

Personaly, I don't need him to reassure me every 24 hours.

If he turns back on his words and throw a transfer request - then you can all start hating him and calling him names.

Until then all moaning is just gayness of epic proportions.

you have a point, i suppose; but whatever he says, it is ambiguous, and that fans the flames, which is why i think he's just a WUM. also, whatever he says, the press are going to twist it to make a better story, so i suppose he is not wholly to blame.

i just wish Brad and co (normally such sensible, level-headed posters) would just relax and stop being so emotional. they're being played for fools by the media.
Agreed. As much as people say that they are not swayed by the media, most people are. The season's finished, England are not in the Euros, transfers are thin on the ground. There is nothing to fill the sports pages with at the moment, and the tabloids are using Ronaldo to do that.

I wish people would seperate these supposed 'quotes' that they read, and simply look at things we have seen and heard in the context that they should be put in. There really is very little concrete evidence out there to support this story, if there is anything at all.

Oh yes. A big difference. The tabloids are, well....the tabloids. They are out to sell papers with dramatic headlines. The papers I mentioned are usually well written and factual. Have been for as long as I can remember.

And anyway, this is a United fan bboard. We can speculate and get as worked up as we like. That's why we come on here. If all we wanted was "news" there's plenty of places for that. It's good to see how other fans are responding to these events.

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has refused a request from Manchester United to rule out ever making a move for Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, Calderon has conceded he is unlikely to sign the 23-year-old this summer.

In an interview with Spanish sports paper Marca, Calderon dismissed a formal request from Manchester United managing director David Gill for Madrid to publicly abandon their pursuit of the player.

But Calderon said signing Ronaldo was "impossible" and sought to play down the row between the two sides which has erupted in the wake of the Spanish team's public pursuit of the Portugal forward.

"At the moment it seems impossible for him to come," he said.

"We shouldn't talk about Ronaldo any more because at the moment it's impossible.

"It's an aspiration which has no chance of happening because his club have said they are not selling and we must not talk about it any more."

Calderon added: "The managing director sent me a letter telling me they will never sell him and even asking me to publicly declare that I will never sign him, which is something which doesn't make much sense."

And he said: "We have to think that at the moment, whatever Cristiano says, Manchester won't sell him."

Nevertheless, Calderon admitted that he would still love to sign the Portugal forward.

He continued: "We would love to have Cristiano or any of the (world's) great players here."

The 57 year-old also reiterated that his club have the financial muscle to prise the young winger away from Old Trafford.

He said: "The decision will be made by the coaches, but nothing is expensive or cheap on its own, before analysing what the counter-balance is from what you receive for the price you pay.

"Here (at Real Madrid), 75 million (euros) was paid six years ago for a 29-year-old player (Zinedine Zidane) and nobody questioned it.

"What I have always said is that this club want the money to be on the pitch and not in the bank, and it is (made) public that Madrid has it.

"They know what we earn, that doesn't mean the club are going to throw it away. We are not going to throw our money around.

"Last year we made signings which looked expensive, but now they look reasonable."

Calderon says he does not know how much Ronaldo would cost Real.

"I don't know. I am not aware of his contract. That is something between Cristiano and Manchester and I can't answer it," he said.

And he added: "He is still not on the market, so I cannot say. We don't even know if he will come."

The Real president also looked to play down the recent row between Madrid and United.

"Speaking more about this will only damage the relationship between the clubs.

"(Things like) occupation of countries and turning Columbus into a Spaniard have already been talked about," he said, in reference to quotes made by United number two Carlos Queiroz last week about Real's behaviour, when he accused the Spanish club of trying to 'nationalise' Ronaldo.

Calderon claims he does not know if the player wants to join Madrid.

"There is a good relationship (with Manchester United) and I have said that if someone decides to leave, it is very difficult to keep them.

"We don't know if Ronaldo wants to leave or not, that seems to me to be getting ahead of the events.

"If I talk about it, I will be criticised for having said there is a chance he will come. If it doesn't happen, it appears a failure," he said.

"So much has been said that we don't know if it's true that he wants to leave.

"We don't know if he will say nothing or if he will say something different.

"If he says something different, Manchester will have to act and if they want to negotiate with Madrid or another club, they will do so. But they have already said they won't sell."

The Real president says he will not be to blame if the deal fails to go ahead.

"If he doesn't come, I won't consider myself guilty.

"What happened with Kaka (last year) was different.

"(Sporting director Pedja) Mijatovic had it (the deal) very advanced, also with Cesc (Fabregas), and it seemed a good idea to tell (people) what our project was.

"It didn't happen and I am sorry because they would have helped us a lot."

Calderon says the Ronaldo deal is now out of his hands.

"Right now, the Cristiano thing is beyond me," he said.

"For him to come, the player will have to say that he is leaving, then Manchester have to want to sell, we will have to play... there are many circumstances which must come together."

The Real president, who has led the team to back-to-back titles since taking over from Florentino Perez, said he is happy with his squad, with or without Ronaldo.

"There is a young, balanced and unified squad (here), and I don't want to upset that. Whoever comes, I propose that it doesn't change much. It's not necessary.

"With this team I think we can win the Champions League and whatever (or whoever) helps that will be welcome.

"But this team will grow, they will be more convincing, they will understand the coach better. It shouldn't be forgotten that we won the league with a record number of points," he added.

That's said near the top of this giant article. He's a moron.

blah... blah.. Fabregas... blah... blah... Kaka... etc. etc.

The irony in all of this is that Calderon is actually taking the piss out of the Real Madrid fans much more than any of us; by spouting this same shit every summer, just to squeeze out a few extra votes in his forthcoming election.

Just a shame that so many United fans are being taken for mugs an' all.

I logged in on Saturday, hadn't bothered with this thread for a few weeks beforehand because in my mind there was nothing in this story. Tell that to Fergie and CQ then.

Over reactions to Scolari telling him to go to Real
Over reactions to his godfarter saying he's already made up his mind
Over reaction to Ronnie saying he'll give us an announcementr in 2-3 weeks, then 2-3 days.....Announcement for what?
Over reactions to Fergie and CQ blowing their tops
Over reactions to the Glazers having balls and threatening to put Ronnie in the stands.
Over reaction to Fergie saying that Real can go to hell

I'm getting sick of those of you on here saying that we're all over reacting. THIS IS A BULLETIN BOARD for United fans. We're allowed and capable to discuss all the possibilities here without being called silly.
And Bilbo, you're so smart to have stayed away from this thread cos you obviously know more than all the rest of the World. Guess you can't be gay then although you could have fooled me.

Seriously. Get over yourself. The noises from United have all just been saying Madrid are acting like twats. And they are. That doesn't mean Ronaldo's leaving does it?

I think that should read ..."by Ronnie"

:D

as i've said before, he's probably the biggest WUM in the history of WUMmery.

to be fair, though, i don't think he wants to leave, and if you read between the lines, you can see that. hopefully i'll be proven correct shortly, and we can all go relax and watch meaningless internationals starting next week.

I must admit it strikes me that Real have been trying their arses off to turn his head but have got wind of whatever he is going to announce (new contract/desire to stay etc) and have thrown in the towel. It's now a face saving job.

To sum up.

Over reactions to Real Madrid's annual media campaign to convince their fans they are bound to sign the world's best player and United's angry reaction to same.

Oh and some sort of "announcement" (of which none of us know very much about) from a player who has twice confirmed that he is staying at the club next season.

Did I miss anything out?

I'm getting sick of those of you on here saying that we're all over reacting. THIS IS A BULLETIN BOARD for United fans. We're allowed and capable to discuss all the possibilities here without being called silly.

We all know it's a bulletin board and you are perfectly entitled to express your opinion about whatever is grabbibg your goat this fine morning. But leaving yourself open to being called silly or getting accused of over-reacting, kind of comes with the territory, no?

Are you still sore about Ronaldo winking to the Portuguese bench as well?

Stop trying to be smart, i have no interest in him winking at the bench or what you are saying.

Its my opinion if u dont like what i say its up to you, just dont quote it with stuff like that.

It's not two weeks yet since won the Europena Cup. We should still be drunk, running round the house, suddenly shouting YESSSS!!! a lot, and putting the word champions at the end of sentences. Champions.

But there's no matches, so we needed an epic thread. This is probably it.

nonsense. These tactics haven't always failed. If Ronaldo came out tomorrow and said he wants to leave, who'd be the mug?

The reality is there are too many variables we don't know. So we must wait, but no one is immume and no one likes waiting. Give people a break, stop preaching and let what happens happen

you only have to look at the heinze situation to realise how things can change. Let's just wait and see what happens. You show me one person that actually believed he'd end up wanting to go to liverpool...just one and you might have a point

Seriously. Get over yourself. The noises from United have all just been saying Madrid are acting like twats. And they are. That doesn't mean Ronaldo's leaving does it?
Madrid are acting like twats because Ronnie has left the door open for them. He could have quashed all the rumours in an instance. Instead he's got United and Real at war with each other (not a bad thing) and us fans watching from a distance trying to figure out what the fks happening. So that's what we're doing. Trying to figure out what the fks happening.
Now stop worrying about other posters. If you don't want to make constructive comments stay away from this thread. Discussing our most prized asset, albeit emotionally, is our prerogative.

Don't take it personally. Its a general observation, not aimed at anyone in particular.

Ferguson's comments are all being made because Madrid have been an absolute disgrace in all of this. I'm sure that he is simply firing back bullets, rather than genuinely concerned about losing Ronaldo.

Regarding Ronaldos comments about 2-3 weeks etc, could it not be a possibility that he is simply trying to buy himself some time away from all of this, hoping the media would back off for a while? He does have the Euro's coming up after all. I'm sure he is just as focused on that tournament as he is on any other football match, if not more so.

Who's preaching? I'm just giving my take on things.

If Ronaldo comes out tomorrow and says he wants to leave then I'll be far too gutted to care about being made a mug of on an internet message board. Meanwhile, I'm gonna be rational and treat all this shite with the same distrust I treat Real Madrid's presidential media campaigns every summer.

Not if he's vying for a better contract. Think about it.

Just noticed how long you've been a member of this forum. Haven't you seen all of this before by now? Redcafe, as a collective, is not a good place to come if you want to live a stress free life. The first Redcafe suicide is surely a mere season or two away, after we only draw away to Portsmouth or something.

If you're keen to discuss our most prized asset, you could at least read other people's comments.

How many fecking times do people need to point out that - assuming Ronaldo is trying to get a new contract - he cannot quash any rumours whatsoever?

And you can be damn sure his agent is reminding him of this, on a daily basis.
