If he ends up getting a new contract and staying, he just did what most footballers do when they believe they should be given a new contract. And like it or not, he does deserve one. The last contract he was given, he had not scored 42 goals in a season and led them to a double. He was not considered the best player in the world, even if maybe he should have been.
So most footballers who want a new contract tell their employers they want to leave for a new club and it's their dream.Funny way of going about it,how about I had a great season more so than expected and maybe I'm worth a bit more than was previously agreed.United are not stupid they know other big clubs would be sniffing around ronnie again after what He has achieved and would be talking to him about improving His deal.Ronaldo by actually coming out with the words It's my dream to go to madrid and it's between the two clubs Has not shown any loyalty to united and thus set the cat amongst the pidgeons.Classless imo and we should cash up on him straight away because He doesn't deserve our loyalty anymore so than His own to us which is now out in the open and questionable.Ronaldo has plenty of years left in Him and is only 23 players peak around 26-28 After winning the european cup with us He fails to see the glory of continuity and further success with a proven team,Money and fame seem to me the residing factor.

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon cautious over Cristiano Ronaldo comments

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has refused to be drawn on Cristiano Ronaldo's latest admission he wants to join the Spanish champions.
Real have often expressed their desire to lure the Manchester United winger to the Bernabeu and despite United insisting he is not for sale, Ronaldo's declarations following Portugal's Euro 2008 exit could mean a move is on the cards.

Guessing game: Ronaldo has everyone waiting for his decision

However, while admitting it would be a great coup to land the Portugal winger, Calderon insists the transfer is far from a done deal.
"As we have already said many times, it is a problem between Manchester United and the player," Calderon said.
"If the two resolve this situation and Manchester United want to call us then we will be happy and delighted with them because Cristiano is a great player.
"We can't say anything more, we only talk about our own footballers and Cristiano is Manchester United's."
However, Calderon did admit Ronaldo's comments, in which he signalled his intention to "take advantage of a great opportunity", may have swung the pendulum in Real's favour.
"If the kid keeps himself in that strong position, the step he has taken could be key," said the Real president.
Real are reportedly set to offer United a world record €100million (£79 million) for the player, or €80million (£63.2m) plus Holland midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

Interesting here that Cadleron wouldn't have gone on the defensive if the move was already done or was very close.

to be frank, football contracts are no longer about securing a player to stay at a club, it purely ensures high transfer fees for the player when the club sells or the player demands a transfer. I think United secretly knew this and probably got ronaldo to sign a new contract knowing that he was going to go. What I don't think United thought, was that it would happen at the end of this season. I reckon they thought it would happen at the end of next...

just a theory mind....

He's worth more than what they paid for Zidane (although value of money changes and so does the market) considering his age, talent, and the main reasoning - marketing.

I'm not really sure I want any of their cast off's. On top of that how would the player feel - he will always be labelled as the one they got for Ronaldo.

He is, but they won't have to pay more. And they may not have more money to offer. If they get Ronaldo forcing the move, it'll take his value down as we'll have an unhappy player.

Also, even if we were paid £60 million or so, what do you think we'd do with it? Before anyone starts, we wont be signing certain players who are at Barcelona and Milan. Madrid tried to buy Kaka last year, he was resolute on his desire to stay and has reiterated that commitment this year.

So top players who arent at top clubs then. They'll demand £30 million for each player, knowing we are flush with cash. We'd end up paying £20-30 million on a good but not great winger and then £30 million on a striker. Villa, Eto'o or Berbatov. When you consider the pace we'll have lost from our attack without Ronaldo, I'd hope its one of the first two. But those 2 players still wouldnt make up for losing Ronaldo.

If you want facts only then I recommend ManUtd.com about a day or so after it happens.

I assure you news will break here before anywhere in the World and no matter what country its in we have reds on here will give us the full insight. The interwebs a wonderful thing.

Discussion? This is no discussion. Ronaldo's been tried, judged and on his way without the slightest shred of evidence or fact, just pure hearsay from a mainly Spanish or Latin press. Where's he said he wants to leave? where's he said he couldn't care what Fergie thinks? Oh, yeah, apparently he said it to somebody whose promised to prove it. Guess what? we're still waiting. Where's the offer from Madrid? Oh, apparently it's now a matter between club and player while they sit there waiting for Fergie to ring and say please take him off our hands! Where's the 'announcement' from Ronaldo? oh, yeah, in a couple of days, Why? is he having problems booking the UN for it? This is no discussion, it's a thoughtless lynch mob. If you wanted to drive him away, you couldn't do a better job.

I think Madrid will find it hard to market Ronaldo the way they did Beckham..lets face it! Unlike Becks he's a Charmless Cnut, has little style, and if truth be told, despite his talent probably one of the most hated players in the World... and I'd like to think the way he has shit on United will not be forgotten easily by the Footballing fraternity.

then where is the player himself saying

"yes when i told a live tv audience after the champions league final that i would be sttaying a unied it was the truthh"... "I love the club and appreciate all they have done for me im happy and i want to stay"... because funnily enough im not hearing those rumors from him...

It'd probably be easier to market him, considering his style of play and the fact hes considered the best player in the world, something Beckham never was.

I bet even his mum doesn't get what's going on at the moment... She was confident he stay stay but future who knows....:smirk:

There's been too many contradictions in this matter so steady, don't believe anything till somethings official...like forexample if he had decided months ago how can he be quoted as undecided on a move and how come his own mother didn't know his thoughts?

We'll see. Ronaldo did have to talk to the club, about his foot. Let's just try relax, focus on the euros and plan our team without Ronaldo but he could very well stay.

I agree it will take his price down but United won't sell him for a measly figure, we'll just keep him then. It won't be as outrageous as reports say though.

I don't think we'll go on a spending spree but we will need someone or a few to replace the impact on the squad. We always get ripped off in the market anyway especially if there is a bidding war which is likely with the players you mentioned. That's if the money received is inputted straight into our transfer budget and not into something else.

Maybe he'll say it after he gets a new contract. And you can say what you like about that, but its how foreign footballers tend to work.

realistically anything over 50m + a striker/winger who is good enough to start OR anything in the range of 75m would be good enough

ie if he really wants to leave and acts like a cnut

dont need the money , so if he wants to stay , turn down any offer

We'd all like to get £75-100 million for Ronaldo if he goes, I'm sure. But from their point of view, I cant see them needing to go above £50 million for him, if he comes around to their thinking and hands in a transfer request.

I do want us to keep him, because I believe that if he goes, Nani and Anderson will follow him in a few years, doing exactly the same things. Afterall, they mentioned when signing for us that part of the reason they came was to play with Ronaldo, and he seems an important influence on them. If they watch him say he wants to leave and then leave, they will just do the same thing eventually when they feel the lure of Madrid and Barcelona. Because whether we like it or not, these players dont grow up supporting Manchester United and dreaming of playing at Old Trafford.

And thats the cycle we'll be in, if we let him leave. Whoever Ronaldo's wing replacement may be, its hardly likely they'll be English. So when this foreigner who replaces him comes good and 2 years from now, Madrid and Barcelona come in for him, what will happen? The exact same thing.

As far as I'm concerned this is a double edged sword. Either we let Ronaldo go and effectively say:

"Even when we have the best player in the world. Even when we are the most successful club in the world this season. Even when we really, really wanted to keep our player. We had to sell them to Real Madrid because we couldnt keep him happy."

Or alternatively, the message that could come out of this may be :

"We can keep the best player in the world happy at the club. We will no longer allow Real Madrid's underhand tactics to work and force moves for our best players. We will sell them only when we want to sell them"

And that would bode extremely well for the future, when other foreign players are in similar situations.

.

Then we won't sell him. Owen wanted to come to Old Trafford, yet they still managed to get a very good price for him, if anything we overpaid. I see no difference in Ronaldo's case. He's got 4 years left on his contract. We're in a strong position. Thankfully we don;t have Kenyon anymore. . .

But United is not his dream. He wants to "step forward". That's why he's a cnut.

I'm pretty sure United isnt Nani or Anderson's dream either. Or Messi or Kaka, or whoever else we might want to try and sign if he goes. And at some point, all of these players would like to "step forward" and play for their "dream" clubs.

That's why United are going to fight this. I keep saying the shit's just hit the fan. We now know what Ronnie wants to do. He told us we know in his interview. It's now up to United. Chapter two. What are United going to do?

I saw an interview with Anderson that said he dreamt about playing for United when he was younger.

sell him to madrid... probably for less than is being spoken about in the papers in several installments and possibly with a player who does not want to be here comin as part of the deal

hope this helps

Refuse to sell him? And probably negotiate a plan on when Ronaldo can leave...really don't expect it to be this summer though. (ready to eat my words)

Footballers really will say anything :wenger: I dont believe it for a second, and we'll see if he remembers those comments in a few years when the top clubs are after him.

who gives a feck, about some cnut's dreams? I dream to feck Elisha Cuthbert? So what?:wenger:

That's the confusion right there. They've already refused to sell him. At any price! But having a player who openly states he wants to go creates a conundrum.
I like conundrums.

Has he actually sat down with Ferguson yet, though?

After the World Cup he was dead set on leaving. Absolutely dead set; he even came out and made it much clearer than this time that he wanted to. And yet, when he sat down and spoke to Ferguson and they discussed things through, then he changed his mind and wanted to stay.

I think we underestimate the respect he has for Fergie, and the influence SAF has on him. We all said we'd do things to our friends that would be against the wishes of our parents, but most of us, when they sat us down and talked things through, changed our minds and appeased them. He's a bit like a rampant child, saying, "I'll do what I want." But in the end, I think he'll be won over.
