The knives are coming out Ronnie. You've had it all your own way up till now. It's going to be a different world for you after this weekend, son.

Yeah, I pity the player who makes public his lack of concern over upsetting Fergie.

This Webster ruling thing...

So Madrid buy Ronaldo aged 23 for lets say £80million

In three years time, he could conceivably buy out the rest of his contract, according to how much he earns? So Madrid could effectively pay something like £60million for 3 years service, and lose a player aged 26, just before his potential peak?

Someone needs to look at this Webster nonsense again

Yes its certainly causing clubs problems. One solution appears to be securing players on ''long term'' contracts, by ''long term'' I mean 7 or 8 years, so even if a player wanted to enforce the Webster ruling after 3 years of his contract, his club would be entitled to 4-5 years worth of wages in compensation which in Ronaldo's case could be £40m-£50m.

The danger for clubs would be that if a played lost form or suffered serious injury in the early years of that contract they'd be up shits creak with a player still having so long left on his contract.

Arsenal have recently been announcing new contracts for their players as ''long term'', I'd be interested to know the length of those contracts, it could be that they are 6 or 7 year long contracts and are a response to the Webster ruling

Whats wrong with his foot anyway? Ingrowing toe nail?

EPISODE 6 - THE GERMANS
While Sybil is in hospital for an ingrowing toenail, she hounds Basil about what jobs he has to do, one of which is to get the moose's head up. Just as he leaves, he meets the doctor, who pleases him by telling him that although Sybils operation is minor, it will be quite painful afterwards. That afternoon, Basil finally gets round to the job of putting the moose's head up, when Sybil rings him up from the hospital, to remind him about the job. While he leaves the moose on the desk, and Manuel behind reception, and goes off to get a hammer, the Major goes by, and Manuel starts to talk to him, however Major, who cannot see Manuel, thinks it is the moose talking. No sooner has Basil got it up, than it falls off the wall. The next morning, Basil is due to hold a fire drill, which Sybil rings him up to remind him about. Just before the drill, confusion is caused, when the burglar alarm accidentally goes off. Meanwhile, Manuel, who is preparing some chips, accidentally sets the kitchen alight, just as the fire alarm is rung. When Manuel tries to tell Basil of the fire, Basil doesn't believe him, and tells him it's not fire, it's only bell. Fed up of Manuel shouting "Fire!", he locks him in the kitchen, who then starts banging on the door. When he finally goes in after about a minute, he realises that there really is a fire, but when he has to ring the alarm, he finds someone's lost the key. He quickly smashes the glass and gets everybody out once more. In an attempt to extinguish the fire, he gets knocked out by the chemicals in the fire extinguisher. He finds himself in hospital, in the same ward as Sybil, who orders him to rest. However, he signs himself out, and returns to work at the hotel, where some German guests have arrived. While taking their orders for lunch, Basil, who has got concussion, ends up going on about the war. After upsetting the German women, Basil tries to cheer them up, by doing of all things, his Hitler impersonation. Meanwhile, Polly decides to call in the doctor, who eventually arrives, whilst Basil is arguing with the Germans. Seeing he has a hypodermic needle, he runs off, through the kitchen and through the office, followed by the doctor. As he passes the moose's head, he sees Manuel and thumps him. As he does so, the moose's head fall on Basil and Manuel, and Basil is knocked cold. When the Major comes to the scene, he doesn't notice Manuel, who groans "Oh, he hit me on the head!", to which the Major replies as he slaps the moose's head "No, you hit him on the head! You naughty moose!". Meanwhile, one of the German guests, looking at the sight, asks sadly "However did they win?".

One of the funniest things I've ever seen.

i also think we will see contracts renegotiated pretty much each year...

so if a 21 year old say signs a 5 year contract after the season a new 5 year contract is negotiated always keeping younger players (say 27 and under for example) with 4 more seasons lefct to run on their contract

And its relevance to this thread?
Answering the posters comment about an ingrowing toenail. I'd smile too at the pain he'll go through.
Reminded me of that episode. Close to my heart. ;)

Ronaldo also reminds me of this episode........
I was in the shopping mall with my mother in law when 6 guys pounced on her and started kicking the shit out of her. Guy next to me says "aren't you gonna help?
Nah, I said, six should be enough.

When the new contract rumours started the basis for them was a payrise for Ron and some anti-Webster protection for United. One suggestion was it might mean pushing most of the "new" money to the end of the contract and putting in loyalty clauses. Issues like minimum appearances and release clauses got a mention as well.

And when United said they weren't negotiating I assumed that was just a negotiating stance. I guess it wasn't that easy.

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon cautious over Cristiano Ronaldo comments

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has refused to be drawn on Cristiano Ronaldo's latest admission he wants to join the Spanish champions.
Real have often expressed their desire to lure the Manchester United winger to the Bernabeu and despite United insisting he is not for sale, Ronaldo's declarations following Portugal's Euro 2008 exit could mean a move is on the cards.

Guessing game: Ronaldo has everyone waiting for his decision

However, while admitting it would be a great coup to land the Portugal winger, Calderon insists the transfer is far from a done deal.
"As we have already said many times, it is a problem between Manchester United and the player," Calderon said.
"If the two resolve this situation and Manchester United want to call us then we will be happy and delighted with them because Cristiano is a great player.
"We can't say anything more, we only talk about our own footballers and Cristiano is Manchester United's."
However, Calderon did admit Ronaldo's comments, in which he signalled his intention to "take advantage of a great opportunity", may have swung the pendulum in Real's favour.
"If the kid keeps himself in that strong position, the step he has taken could be key," said the Real president.
Real are reportedly set to offer United a world record €100million (£79 million) for the player, or €80million (£63.2m) plus Holland midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

BBC pundits stoke Fergie fire over Ronaldo future...

As if relations between Fergie and the BBC are not bad enough already with the United manager continuing to refuse to speak to the corporation following a 2004 BBC3 documentary entitled "Fergie and Son". At the time his son Jason worked for the Elite sports agency, the programme centred on allegations about dodgy transfers involving Elite and Manchester United players. Ferguson says that he does not bare grudges, but despite that he wants an apology from the Beeb - though he isn't expecting one any time soon.

During the recent David Frost interview, it became clear that Fergie is still raging mad over the allegations and with the pot simmering nicely, it's now likely to reach boiling point as the United manager will not be best pleased to learn that BBC Euro 2008 pundits Marcel Desailly and Mark Lawrenson have gone on-air stating in their belief that Ronaldo should quit the Red Devils this summer and join Real Madrid.

Lawrenson is of course a Liverpool supporter and a former player; it would be interesting to hear his response if he was asked the same question about the future of the Merseyside Reds Fernando Torres and the speculation linking him with Chelsea. It's doubtful that Lawro would be so quick to say that YES Torres should join another club.

Whether or not the BBC decided to deliberately stoke the Fergie fire is an interesting question to ask, it cannot be ruled out given the Beeb is aware that Fergie is unlikely to call a truce, added to which he is likely to quit the club in the next couple years.

sell him... and wait for him and nistelrooy to fall out again...

just please for the love of god...

do it fecking quickly

What did Lawro and Desailly actually say?

Ronnie wants out and now he has said it openly for the second time in 3 years, and that puts Madrid in the driving seat
the least Ronnie could have done is kept his mouth shut for the sake of utd, if Madrid were serious they would have made an offer without all this shit

if we are not careful we'll get feck all for him or have him dejected in the team

We should certainly give this offer a serious thought or maybe actually sell him.

63 mil pounds +Sneijder is a fcking huge offer.

He's a cnut now. If he sounds like a cnut and acts like a cnut, he's a cnut, IMHO

He's also the best player in the world, ours and achieved an astonishing feat last season we most likely wont see from any other winger ever again.

Ronaldo isn't bigger than the club. But he's bigger than a lot of the fickle fans who are buying in to Marca's original ploys.

If he ends up getting a new contract and staying, he just did what most footballers do when they believe they should be given a new contract. And like it or not, he does deserve one. The last contract he was given, he had not scored 42 goals in a season and led them to a double. He was not considered the best player in the world, even if maybe he should have been.

It'll never happen. I can't see it anyway. I highly doubt they'll go over what they paid for Zidane - though maybe a player as well, but it wont be someone who is happy at the club and wont be replaced by Ronaldo. Sneijder has only this week said he's not leaving Madrid.

He's worth more than what they paid for Zidane (although value of money changes and so does the market) considering his age, talent, and the main reasoning - marketing.

I'm not really sure I want any of their cast off's. On top of that how would the player feel - he will always be labelled as the one they got for Ronaldo.

I agree with you.

I was saying if they ever make that offer.

Sniejder won't leave Madrid.Actually apart from Robinho I can't see any of the star Madrid players wanting to join us.

It's Real we are talking about, they will tell Sneijder to feck off and join United. Pretty much what they did to Robinho that probably wanted to stay then he keep hearing his name in swap deals for Ronaldo everyday. I guess that doesn't make you feel wanted by your current club.
