If we keep him, we are going to have the same circus over and over again. Sell the cnut now while the price will be exorbitantly high.

Oh, and he won't have achieved his aim of entering the pantheon of United legends. After this whole episode, his name belongs no where near the likes of Best, Law, Charlton, Keane, Giggs and Cantona.

Strange, one moment Ronaldo sincerely says he wants to be a United legend, then the next moment, Balagues' allegedly true interview with Ronaldo on his change of heart.

That portuguese interview (video) is almost as bad mate.

Is it possible to replace Ronaldo if he leaves and who is the replacement?

There is no direct replacement for such a great, great player. But there are other great, great players who we can get and then adapt our playing style.

20/06/2008 08:47, Report by Ben HibbsUnited: Ronaldo 'not for sale'

Further to Friday’s press speculation about where Cristiano Ronaldo’s future lies, the club has moved to reiterate its stance on the matter: United are not listening to offers.

Ronaldo has continually been linked with a move to Spanish side Real Madrid this summer.

But the club reaffirmed to ManUtd.com on Friday morning that the 23-year-old United star is “not for sale".

The club is still firm, might be an issue of trying to get as much money out of real as possible though.. ?

if nothing has been twisted or lost in translation that is truly a classless interview from ronaldo. he shows no respect to a club and manager that have made him into the player he is today, he was a rough diamond when he first signed, granted he had extraordinary potential, but nothing more, how many youngsters have come into the game with lots of potential and not fulfilled it? since he signed he has been chiselled into possibly one of the finest players ever to grace the field. if this interview is an accurate portrait of his feelings then it is best he goes, we just need extract every penny we can from Madrid. they are both a perfect classless match for each other.

Ronaldo aint going to hand in a transfer request.

He from what I imagine looses 10% on the signing on fee, so about £ 5million if we will sell him for £50 million if he does.

Hes going to beat around the bush for the next few weeks, Fergi's going to get pissed off and ship him off to his magical sunny life in Real, who might I say will win feck all.

He will go if he wants to, there's nothing we can do about it and this statements will just make us look even more silly as they will prove that we didn't want to sell yet we did.

I have been giving Ronaldo abuse for weeks and weeks now. I was told by the more enlightened posters to give it a rest until the future was resolved. It seems now that everyone has come around to the notion that the tosser is agitating for a move.

Let me get this straight now. His conduct has been absolutely disgraceful. The disdain he has shown to Sir Alex Ferguson, the fans and the entire club is a disgrace. I have no respect left for the boy.

I truly hope that he leaves. Anyone who says he is irreplaceable is talking absolute nonsense. Don't leave the prick in the stands as that will harm the club. He is clearly a hugely sell-able asset so lets get our transfer hard hats on and play some transfer hard ball. The club would be well advised with taking a leaf out of Lyon's book; after all they are well versed in squeezing every Euro out of a transfer deal. This transfer is going to happen and we need to make sure we take as much from it as we can. We are clearly in a position of strength with the player being on a 4 year contract so lets not get bullied.

I genuinely believe that the last 3 months have shown that Ronaldo thinks he has outgrown his respective teams (Portugal and United). Every press conference and interview has been littered with the same questions and all the preparation has been over shadowed. I'm sure other players get pissed off at having to play the role of water carrier for this over indulged fool. His exit would allow the likes of Nani, Anderson, Tevez and especially Rooney to flourish. We could plough the cash into a world class front man as well.

Ta ra Ronaldo. I for one, won't mourn your departure.

You're not a Top Red mate. Top Reds don't behave like that. Top Reds are calm and wait, wait, wait.

Ronaldo is great but he is not the team. And I prefer not seeing us raise the CL again rather then see that arsehole treating our club with such disrespect.

So for you Ronaldo>United. That's what you are saying. If the United>Ronaldo then we should do what's best for the team and the best is to keep Ronaldo and win trophies.

He will go if he wants to, there's nothing we can do about it and this statements will just make us look even more silly as they will prove that we didn't want to sell yet we did.

these statements are also there to serve as a negotiating tool. not for sale = up for your offer please.

the bitch about all this is that ferguson can't get on strengthening the squad until he knows for definately if Ronny's going, and if so for how much...get the fecker sold for 80million tomorrow

He is under contract, Ronaldo can spit his dummy out if he wants to but we are uder no obligation to sell.

If the clubwants him to stay, he will stay.

it's definitely mind games.

i won't be surprised if he stays. and i also won't be surprised if the many people on the caf going on and on and on and on about what a dick he is praises him when he helps us lift the next CL.

Put a sock in it. He has acted like a classless prick. Whether he stays or not, he has rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way.

Glad that's over, we can close the thread now. :)

i imagine fergie's got 30-40 to spend with or without ronaldo's sale, so he'll be getting a striker + a right back first.

if ronnie is sold, then next priority will be to get a new winger with the money we got. and maybe save some money in the bank!

Feck me there are some right drama queens about.

We are in a win win position. He stays we have a brilliant player. He goes and we have a shed load of money to sign the best players in the world.

Chill out FFS.

I was being sarcastic. I thought someone would have come before me and told you that it was an overreaction, and how fans shouldn't behave like that. We've been on that for many times before, haven't you noticed? :smirk:

Back onto the topic, having read the interview I started to notice that Ronaldo doesn't care about his international teammates either. If those words are genuine, he's probably even more self-centered than I would've thought. You are not going to make friends that way, it's short-term, long-term you can only make enemies.

Man Utd are quick to reiterate their stance, this shows United media surfs various news links and forums. Is it time for Cafe's scouts to start transfer threads? Cue Mcqueen's report on Kaka to United? Come on, chief. :)

There is no direct replacement for such a great, great player. But there are other great, great players who we can get and then adapt our playing style.

I'm in league with this radical view states the chief:cool:

He will go if he wants to, there's nothing we can do about it and this statements will just make us look even more silly as they will prove that we didn't want to sell yet we did.

really?

The club won't bow down for no one. I think under normal circumstances it'd be different but 1) we've been shown zero respect by madrid

But 2) which I think is more important. For all Ronaldo's flaws, I think Sir Alex knows Ronaldo will produce the goods and for the people saying he's unhappy. I don't personally think he is, but time spent with his 'mates' at united will hopefully refocus him

Yes the club is bigger then any player, but we're not stupid

Put a sock in it. He has acted like a classless prick. Whether he stays or not, he has rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way.

you're all in a spur of the moment anger and you know it.

get emotional all you want, but if he stays, he will get the support of majority of the fans - bar some clueless twats. there are a lot of us who are not stupid enough to think that Man United was ever at any point in time Ronaldo's top priority.

From day one he said he wanted to play for Real some day. many of us have also predicted the year he was going to leave. there were many threads about this but i don't care to dig them up right now.

you grow up as a kid with a dream. the time has come for you to realize your dream. what do you do? i forgive him for having 2 minds about the whole situation. if he chooses to stay, i will say feck you to Real and support him because we won't need to rebuild again while Fergie is planning to retire in 2-3 years.

maybe he's decided to go to Real, but haven't declared it yet. Why? It may be possible he wants United to get the most for him. Repay us with a lot of money for our faith in him. so what? I wouldn't want us to keep a player against his will, so I would love for United to get the most they can from him.

Could simply mean he's not for sale but that's a bit boring, can't be true.

Another day, another unfounded 'interview'.

Would you mind translate it for us? thanks.

I did mate, just below the video you posted.

Reporter: Cristiano, can we talk?
CR: We all are sad, we really wanted to win..we lost in 2 plays due a corner and freekick...football is like that.
It's sad because we are better than them, that we practiced the whole week that we could make a different in these
kind of plays (corners, freekicks) but we couldn't stop them and that's why i think we are better and people think
Portugal is really better but the final result is that Germany won and went trough the semifinals.
We had more chances but two chances they had we lost it.

Of course we wanted to win it but i think it was a good competition, i know if we had won this game we were just one
stop from the final but the moment wasn't good...Portugal lost and what counts more in football is the final result
and not good exhibitions.

Reporter: did you expect more from yourself, cristiano?
CR: No...im satisfied with what i did but of course i wanted to give more but now i have to rest well and
everything is fine.

Reporter: how is the other players now?
CR: of course we are all sad...we knew we could have won it..it was our mistakes and that's why we are disappointed.

The message i can give to the fans is thank you for supporting us till this last game and that's it.

Reporter: how disappointed are you to lose this game cause of a header goal, corner and freekick?
CR: yes i am and more because Scolari wasted a big time talking about these kind of plays and whoch player should
follow each german player... i thought our players were confident but that's not what happened, Germany won cause
of this kind of plays that we were worried.

Reporter: The Euro is over now, is it today you are going to tell about your future?
CR:No...now i want to talk about the game, what i did wrong but in the next few days i'll say more about my future

Possibilities are big (to go to Real Madrid) but it doesn't deppend on me and i don't want to talk about this anymore.

Reporter: is there any contact with you from real madrid?
CR: i think so, i don't know. in the next days we'll see and we'll get to a deal

Reporter: but what do you want?
CR: i want many things but in the next days you all will have news

Reporter: in you last press conference in Neuchatel, you talked in spanish..did you know how to speak already?
CR: i knew spanish already

Reporter: already for the future?
CR: i always practice not only spanish but also english and french

Reporter: having scolari as your opponent, how is it gonna be?
CR: he'll be my opponent...he'll want to beat me and i'll want to beat him but he's my friend.

Reporter asks about real madrid again
CR: i won't talk about this anymore...that's it...

It must be a "spur of the moment" for the last month then. Check my posts if wish. My opinion (almost always scathing) on Ronaldo has been unswerving throughout this entire saga.

I want him to leave, because he behaves as though he believes he is bigger than the club. It is an unworkable situation.

Actually we'll get more.

Ł50m a few years back was more that it is now in comparison to €. So if we had been willing to sell Ronaldo for, let's say Ł50m a few years back then we would have got more than we would get now if we sold him for Ł50m. All in comparison to € and the money we get towards transfers, otherwise Ł50m is just Ł50m as it may appear.

madrid would deal in euros ..
100m euros a few years back wouldve been ~ £50m

now that same amount would be closer to £80m
