Ronaldo: I'm close to joining Real

Published: 19 Jun 2008

CRISTIANO RONALDO has dramatically claimed his Manchester United career is over.

Just minutes after crashing out of Euro 2008 with Portugal tonight, the winger insisted he was close to fulfilling his dream of joining Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, 23, said: "The possibility of me going to Madrid is great. There is a concrete offer.

"We're going to talk about it and try to reach a deal."

The former Sporting Lisbon star - rated in the £60million-plus bracket - has been desperate for Real to contact United directly.

But the Spanish giants have toned down their overtures in recent days after United complained to football's world rulers.

FIFA cleared Real of an illegal approach for the Premier League's player of the year, who finished the season with a staggering 41 goals.

But Madrid will regard Ronaldo's outburst as the green light they want to press ahead.

Real general director Miguel Angel Arroyo said earlier tonight: “We are waiting for Ronaldo to say something.

"As soon as he says he wants to play for Real Madrid there will be conversations between the two clubs.

“We would willingly reach an agreement with Manchester United if they want to sell and if the price was affordable.”

Ronaldo only signed a lengthy United deal last season.

But his revelations tonight will heap pressure on Old Trafford chiefs to reconsider their hardline approach.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted he would rather let Ronaldo rot in the reserves than give in to player power.

But United might prefer to cash in on an unhappy player - then splash out on two or three replacements - instead of making a stand that they might struggle to maintain.

And there is still the possibility - first revealed in SunSport - that Ronaldo could go on strike to secure a move.

Im going to bed, im too worked up to post a reasonable post. What winds me up More than anything is those utd fans that have almost been waiting for this day, he was always a cnut yada yada yada. Everything he's done forgotten. Its pathetic. fecking disgrace.

If the guy goes we were lucky to have him. Of course we'll move on but why cant it be an amicable parting?? Its not like we'll get shafted if he does go. You know who you are and you're a bunch of jokers.

if he stays and wins us another title these nuggets will creep back into the woodwork until their day comes...and shock horror it will come. How do we know this?? Because ronnie has been honest about it from DAY 1.

I agree 100% with this post. Everyones caught up in the fecking circus this has become. Let Fergie speak to him and tell us what the real facts are and if he does want to leave so be it. Personally I'll wish him the best of Luck but I tell you one thing I cant see him ever top the season hes just had at another club. Show some class and let him leave if thats his wish.

I think Fergie of all people is deeply upset and feels betrayed, he always speaks of Ronaldo like someone really close to him - take the long interview with Sky Sports after the CL finale, he kept going on about Ronaldo - both as a person and a player.

That was a signal he was moving Top.

Fergie was doing his best to massage his ego, in the hope he would stay.

Guillem Balague: What feeling have you got after the defeat?

Cristiano Ronaldo: What feeling?

Guillem: The one after being knocked out

Ronaldo: We didn’t expect this. We wanted to continue in the tournament, but we didn’t do enough. We weren’t strong enough

Guillem: The little details were won by Germany. You didn’t seem concentrated enough

Ronaldo: I didn’t do anything wrong. I did what I had to do but the team made mistakes and that is why we lost

Guillem: What now, Ronaldo, we are expecting an announcement

Ronaldo: Lets see in a couple of days. The tournament is over and I am going to reach an agreement

Guillem: Are you going on holiday now?

Ronaldo: I am going to have an operation now. I have had for three months a problem on my foot. I have been playing with pain. I will have an operation, a good recuperation and we will see after that

Guillem: If you wanted to stay at Manchester United, why don’t you say it?

Ronaldo: You will soon know what I want. You do know what I want and that is why I don’t want to say anything else. Lets wait. I want to give more details that is why I cannot say much more

Guillem: When will that take place?

Ronaldo: In a couple of days. I am going to give my opinion in two days. I am going to say what I want, but things don’t depend only on me, that is why we have to wait

Guillem: Are you going to do a press conference, a communique?

Ronaldo: A public note

Guillem: Do you have to talk to Ferguson?

Ronaldo: I don’t know what i have to say to him. I have to say what I want and what I think

Guillem: What you have to say, will that upset Ferguson?

Ronaldo: It is my opinion, that is why I don’t mind if people get upset. It is my decision. It is what I want

Guillem: When did you take that decision?

Ronaldo: Some time ago, before the Champions League final

Guillem: Is it something personal or is it football reasons?

Ronaldo: We were competing and I didn’t want to say anything because it is a very important decision . i didn’t want to say anything here because I wanted to be focused on Portugal. But now it is finished and I am going to say

Guillem: Is it a personal problem or sporting problem

Ronaldo: It is a personal thing. It is something I want, something I dream of.

Guillem: And that your family dreams of too

Ronaldo: That is true. You all know what I want. I cannot say anything else. In two days you will hear from me

Guillem: Do you think it is going to be very difficult to get out of United?

Ronaldo: It is always difficult. It is not only one person deciding, it is many people, but it can be a very good thing for everybody

Guillem: Do you feel what you are about to decide is a step forward in your career, a dream?

Ronaldo: It is a dream, a step forward, you can call it what you want. For me it is a great opportunity, and as Scolari says, that train passes by only once, and we have to take advantage of it

Guillem: Ah, but thats not fair, Scolari is going to be the new Chelsea manager and wants you away from him!

Ronaldo: That is why, he took advantage of his change, that opportunity, and other people have to take advantage of opportunities too.

Guillem: You know that when you return to Manchester people will be upset with you

Ronaldo: But that will pass, a couple of good goals and people will be happy

Guillem: Will the key be to talk to Ferguson?

Ronaldo: I will do a public note and we will then see what will happen

Guillem: Do you think your dream will come true?

Ronaldo: I really hope so, lets see

Guillem: What about the operation?

Ronaldo: I will be seen by the doctors of United in a couple of days

Guillem: You will talk to your club first

Ronaldo: Yes, I will talk to them first, and then in 3 or 4 days I will be operated and then i will start the recuperation to get better soon

Guillem: Is it true that you never took a call from Ferguson?

Ronaldo: It is not true

Guillem: But have you spoken to him?

Ronaldo: No. I was in a very important competition and we had nothing to say to each other

Guillem: Are you convinced that in three or four days everything can be sorted?

Ronaldo: Yes, lets see, in the next few days we will have more details

your posts have been quite funny of late and quite informative regarding the CR7 stuff..
however, you peadophillic remarks went too far, NOT funny and leave me with disgusting images only depraved individuals would refer too.it is quite obvious a seven year old child can himself not ejaculate, let alone a bunch of them.. which then would only leave the fact that it was other peoples semen..DISTURBING and immoral.. you should be more responsible when you are a moderator.. THIS WIL NOT DO.
i was given an infraction for joking about wenger, i certainly did not stoop to such levels.:nono::nono::nono::nono::nono:

You've just been given another infraction for shit stirring, as you know very well that was nothing like a paedo remark.

Keep shit stirring and you'll have to make do with the manutd.com message boards.

Thanks.

If that transcript is true then im starting to get angry.

Guillem: You know that when you return to Manchester people will be upset with you

Ronaldo: But that will pass, a couple of good goals and people will be happy

Is it me or is every fcuking interview as vague as fcuk nowadays?

That transcript clears nothing up. Does anyone think we should withhold the operation until he signs a new 10 year deal? Anyone? :)

Transcript seems genuine to me, sadly.

Even if its true, this doesnt mean he will leave, it means he wants to, not sure United will tolerate this.

That was a signal he was moving Top.

Fergie was doing his best to massage his ego, in the hope he would stay.

You might be right, though I didn't get that agenda at all, he sounded very sincere.
But like I said, we can't condemn Ronaldo for following his heart, that's what we all want to to see in this modern game of football, it's just not very easy to be rational when the best player in the world has got so strong intentions of leaving the club we all love.
We'll cope, of course we will, but right now it just seems cloudy and impossible to get the mind around. It's just unimaginable that someone would want to leave this club, but we'd have felt the same way, had it been us who were playing for Real and got the chance to move to United.

I just want to fast-forward to the first game of the season as the next couple of months are going to feel very long and gloomy.

guime is a fecking moron, he doesn't know his head from his ass. He was on the radio a while ago running his mouth and saying that madrid are bigger than us and in our wildest dreams we couldn't reach their level.

He promised to put the AUDIO up on his site within 10 minutes about three hours ago.

All that is there is a printed TRANSCRIPT which is a much different thing.

When asked by Portuguese sports website Record.pt about a possible future at Real Madrid, he replied, "The possibilities are great, but as we have seen it does not depend on me.

"Over the coming days we'll see if we can reach an agreement."

"I have many desires. Over the coming days, we'll have news," he smiled.

He's right, it does not depend on him.

Ronaldo: Madrid ? A Great Possibility

The wonder-winger gave the strongest hint yet that he's looking to secure a move to the Santiago Bernabéu from Manchester United.

When asked by Portuguese sports website Record.pt about a possible future at Real Madrid, he replied, "The possibilities are great, but like I said it does not depend on me.

"Over the coming days we'll see if we can reach an agreement."

"I have many desires. Over the coming days, we'll see if we have news," he smiled.

Speculation will mount further after the player himself confirmed that he now has a firm command of the Castellano language.

"I can speak Spanish," he said. "And I'm always practicing English and French."

English could still play a role if he remains at Manchester United, and there he could well come up against former national team mentor Luiz Felipe Scolari, now of Chelsea.

"He will be my rival," Ronaldo said of this eventuality. "I'll want to win against him and he'll want to do the same against me."

He's always practicing English. This is nowhere near the definitive "GET ME OUT NOW I WILL NOT PLAY FOR YOU" the media is trying to make it.

"In two or three days time I will announce my future because the tournament is over for me," he said in Portuguese after the game.

"I will speak to Manchester United.

"I will try to reach an agreement and we will see."

BBC: Ronaldo says he is undergoing an operation on a foot injury he has been carrying for 3 months,

maybe he will fail real madrid medical

He's coming back to Manchester to have it done. I expect he might meet up with a certain red nosed individual who is not a reindeer.

That interview isn't very vague, if it's real. And you've got to think that something of that length probably is real, otherwise Ballague'd be in so much legal trouble it'd be ridiculous.

Ronaldo basically says "you all know my dream and I want my dream." Which means he'll come out and say he wants to play for Madrid.

Anyone else think it's a bit off that he's basically saying he wants to play for Madrid and yet doesn't think it a little unfair to expect our team doctors to operate on him? At least have the courtesy you charge your new club the medical bill, not the one you're deserting :p

Guillem: You know that when you return to Manchester people will be upset with you

Ronaldo: But that will pass, a couple of good goals and people will be happy
Yeah, that puzzled me as well.
Though I'm soon done being naive about this whole saga.

Ah, feck it. Unless you were the worlds greatest (most gullible?) optimist — the type of person that could think of an excuse for, and convince yourself of, literally anything (not mentioning any names, of course) — we've all had plenty of time to digest this now.

Silence, as they say, often speaks volumes, and it was fairly obvious that even Ronaldo wasn't likely to employ such cruel and disrespectful tactics just to get a new contract.

The question is the same as it has always been, then: which course of action is best for Manchester United? Many will suggest that we cut our losses, take a massive transfer fee (with a possible player swap as part of the deal) and move on. I am sympathetic to that, but not for the reasons that many seem to be. We can't really win, in my opinion, by selling him this summer, and that is what is most disappointing to me. It doesn't matter what Real Madrid are willing to offer, they are likely to make that back in a couple of years through merchandise alone, not to mention success on the pitch. That is why they are so desperate to sign him. His commercial value is only likely to increase, but with each passing year the opportunity to exploit that value decreases in terms of his age.

The only other option would be to force him to remain at the club for a period, knowing that he is unlikely to sulk for too long, which would only harm his impressively ruthless bid for a place in football history, no matter who he has to crap on along the way to get where he wants. And given that he is still highly likely to pick up at least one of the two player of the year awards (World and European), his value is only likely to increase in the intervening period. In other words, we could milk him for a little while longer, and then allow him to leave on our terms, not his.

As I have said, I have reservations about forcing him to remain at the club — in terms of the fans reaction, as well as dressing room harmony — but it really is disheartening to think that the first player to win the WPOTY award, both at Manchester United, and for England as a nation, may not even be at the club. I certainly wouldn't celebrate it, to be honest.

it's just not very easy to be rational when the best player in the world has got so strong intentions of leaving the club we all love.

I just want to fast-forward to the first game of the season as the next couple of months are going to feel very long and gloomy.

Well put.

I think he is going to say he wants to leave in a year or two IF those comments are true

You're having me on? He's actually said all that?

I mean dear me, i've been no defender [far from it] of Roanldo's behaviour these past weeks but i think i still gave him enough credit to portray himself a tad better than that. Worse than i expected but that is not tos ay that he didnt' have it in him i guess.

If true, bloody hell!

Comes across woefully, starting from early on where he says that Portugal's departure from the tournament was everyone elses fault.

Guillem: You know that when you return to Manchester people will be upset with you

Ronaldo: But that will pass, a couple of good goals and people will be happy

If this interview is true, I think I now understand what Ronaldo position is.

He wishes to move to Real Madrid, which is me stating the obvious of course, but this one statement shows that he's also aware that nothing is guaranteed for him and he might stay with us for the next season too. This bit of the interview shows that there will be no problem between him and the fans if he stays, because he knows he's a footballing genius.

At the end of the day, to be honest, he knows that his performance on the pitch for Manchester United, and nothing else, is the most important thing to the fans.

It makes no sense, one minute he's talking about following dreams, the next United fans will forgive him when he scores goals

Tbh, that interview basically summed up this whole sage. One minute it's his dream to move, the next minute he's staying and scoring goals for us. Crazy stuff really.

He wants to play for Madrid

He wants to move this season

I believe he'll make that clear in 2 days but he will also say he's happy to stay if United refuse a move. That is why he says the United fans will forgive me after a couple of goals, fans will be pissed at him making it clear his desire to leave

It makes no sense, one minute he's talking about following dreams, the next United fans will forgive him when he scores goals

It means that he wants to leave (only a blind man still believes that he wants to stay), but may be he thinks United won't sell, so he'll have to stay and endear to the fans again by scoring goals

My thoughts are pretty similar, but we're thinking from a fans perpective mate.

Very few footballers are fans.

If he made his mind up before the final, why did he say he was going to stay on at least 3 different occasions.

Well actually that transcript basically said:

Ronnie: "I want to move to Madrid to furfill my dreams, but i'm prepared to return to United if they won't allow it".

If he hadn't mentioned about returning and scoring goals then we'd be royally fecked. I think he's essentially saying the ball is in our court, I won't be surprised if we make a gentlemens agreement with Ronnie this summer, basically telling him:

"Play this season with us, while we look for your replacement, come the summer we'll agree the move to Madrid".

Thats how I see it anyway. Theres simply not enough time to replace a player like Ronnie in this short peroid of time. He's got our best interests at heart as well so i'd imagine he'd see the sense in that.

Ronaldo: It is a personal thing. It is something I want, something I dream of.

Ronaldo: That is true. You all know what I want. I cannot say anything else. In two days you will hear from me
This means he wants loads of money from someone.

Ronaldo: It is always difficult. It is not only one person deciding, it is many people, but it can be a very good thing for everybody
This means he's going.

Ronaldo: It is a dream, a step forward, you can call it what you want. For me it is a great opportunity, and as Scolari says, that train passes by only once, and we have to take advantage of it
This means he's about to be made captain of United and vice-chaplain of Bedfordshire.

Ronaldo: But that will pass, a couple of good goals and people will be happy
Tis means he's staying.

Ronaldo: I will be seen by the doctors of United in a couple of days
This means he is going to have an operation.

Ronaldo: No. I was in a very important competition and we had nothing to say to each other
This means he's staying.

Ronaldo: Yes, lets see, in the next few days we will have more details
This means the matter is to be decided within a few days.

Guillem: You know that when you return to Manchester people will be upset with you

Ronaldo: But that will pass, a couple of good goals and people will be happy

I suspect he might say "I will stay 1/2 more years, then I would LIKE Real and United to work something out".

Otherwise that goals comment makes no sense.

Presuming Ballague, a serial liar and transfer muppet (Ronaldo was DEFINITELY gone in 2006, Ruud in 2005, Torres to United was a "done deal", etc...), hasn't just made this up or exaggerated it.

Where is the audio he promised hours ago as opposed to a transcript.
