ALL Ronaldo's future/comments/speculation

Well I was convinced of it, I expect you might have been too. There is more youth and I believe more potential in this squad .

That was actually my FIRST YEAR!.:nervous:

I thought that Arsenal were the team that would dominate the next decade, and that we were "through" (the BBC told me so!). I also at first thought that Liverpool were still the hugely successful ones, vying with Arsenal for all of the honours.

No, seriously. I did.

Some of the posters on here dislike Ronaldo yet worship Best. Yet George created more problems for the team with his wayward lifestyle than Ronaldo has with a few cryptic remarks. On the field they are both legends, but Ronaldo's off-field behaviour is a lot more professional than Best's. I shudder to think of what a 1970-ish cafe would have made of the multiple Best no-shows.

I say we should keep him, if only for one more year. We are on the verge of matching Liverpool's 18, we are in with a shout of winning 7 trophies, a double 3-leagues-in-a-row, possible number 4 European Cup. We could acheive a lot this season. It would also give the club time to prepare for his absence.

I agree, if things turn out well(which I rarely question won't happen when Ronaldo, Rio, and Rooney are in the lineup) United could win the league and Europe as well as many other trophies next year, which would put this United squad into everyone's all-time scrapbook of best teams ever. At that point, I think it would be harder than ever to pry away Ronaldo from Manchester United. The longer the lad stays, the better, both for him and the club.

People talk about how Fergie wants that 18th league title, and would love to have a 3rd European Cup to match Paisley. They also say Ronaldo has "won the lot" as a mark of the fact he would want to leave.

Why would winning something once (and the league title twice) make you no longer be bothered by it? Surely you'd want it more, just like Fergie does. He instills this sort of attitude in his players or they simply aren't his players for long.

That's why I was shocked by Cantona's retirement. Eric proved, as always, that he is different.

I watched Georgie thro the 60's. Had the pleasure of watching just about every game he ever played up to 68. Legend. He never fked us around. He fkd himself around.
Ronaldo's fkn us around. Big difference.

You can resent all you want, while continuing to behave like an hysterical little girl.

IMHO.

And you obviously don't remember 2006 or you were in a red haze.

Oh i remember it very well, and the infamous quotes toward the end of the season and the storm hat they too caused. I wasn't present then and not wholly pleased at the time neither. But you and your generalisations and assumptions have gone further than than that alone [in the above post and ones prior to it].

You simply don't seem to get it and i doubt you ever will at this rate. People care about right action, how what someone says and does or doesn't do, reflects upon the club. You it appears couldn't care a damn about such things.

So what do you do? You turn up every now and then and bring your sanctimonious rhetoric down upon us. Or you're...well you are insulting and abusive. Having failed to persuade people, you imply or accuse against their character things you can't prove one bit.

In short, you are arrogant, and you're wsting our time.

There is a spirit and camaraderie in the side, a work ethic, a belief, that gives me the feeling last season is only the start of something very special for the club. Ronaldo must surely have severe doubts about giving all that up. Just hearing him talk about his team-mates after his penalty miss, 'the lads' 'I missed but the lads did their job'. I can't see his pride letting him leave the club, his last action being a penalty miss in the CL final.

:) Good word. Used it about 40 pages back.

good post....I was annoyed with Best when he was a no-show in those days...still I cant help loving the great man.....nothing can discount what he did for the club on the field....its the same with Ronaldo...even if he does not play for us again...but he will.

I'm trying to forget the penalty against Barcelona and the one against Chelsea. His mates pulled him through both of those. Chelsea have been doing a Ronaldo Photoshop thread in a parallel Universe.

He never fked us around. He fkd himself around.

I think it was both, first himself then the club as a consequence. As a result, his performances suffered. I'll withhold fire from Ronaldo as long as he is still playing blinders for Manchester United.

That's the thing BR,

I used to think that those incidents would at least add some humility in the lad. As good as he was, his mates has as much as say last season as he did. Add to that with the support he received after 2006 fiasco. I had hope that he held the club in a higher regard than now.

I guess I'm just being naive. I hope people realise what a rarity players like Scholes and Giggs are.

so you use those two incidents to pass sentence? what about the numerous other matches which he almost single-handedly won for us....I mean how the heck can you discount his 42 goals??

I'm his biggest fan. I even go as far as to say he could end up being the best player ever. Just pointing out that there are other players on our team who can step up as well. Good job in Moscow. How different it could have been had we lost to Chelsea because Ronnie was the only one that missed his penalty. And because he has my total adoration I hurt more when he fks with me. I want him at OT for all his career. If this team becomes legendary in the next few years he may really have to think hard about going elsewhere.

Man Utd to hand Ronaldo £150,000-a-week deal
tribalfooball.com - June 08, 2008

Manchester United are ready to hand Cristiano Ronaldo a new pay-rise to take his wages to £150,000-a-week.

The People says United are set to cave in to fend off Real Madrid - and offer Ronaldo a staggering £7.2million pay deal that'll see him become the Premier League's top earner on £150,000 a week.

Despite a consistent public stance they will not be forced into boosting the 42-goal Portuguese sensation's £120,000-a-week contract, it's revealed the money men at United have had a change of heart.

And yesterday they made contact with Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes over resolving the crisis over the player's future.

The outcome is certain to be another improved deal - just a year after United re-negotiated a five-year agreement for Ronaldo to stay until 2012.

The new contract will not tie Ronaldo to United for any longer and is seen as a sweetener.

A highly placed United source said last night: "If Cristiano wants a new contract do you think we will not give him it if it means him staying?

"There is a game being played here and there are other issues on the agenda."

Well we'll find out whether it all comes down to money or not

If the top strikers in the world are worth that much, then so is he. Wasn't Kaka handed a similar deal? He is better imo, especially considering the commercial front.

Look at them fecking virgins. If anything they'll scare Ron away. As for the new contract; the article is obviously speculation, but I'm all for increasing his wages if it means he's staying for more than one season.

Question; I've been away so I fell out of the loop a wee bit. Was the talk about Nike's 'CR7' thingy true or bollocks?

That was quite hysterical.

A quick survey if you don't mind. I'm interested in how much you value "right action", whatever that is.

For the purpose of these questions I am assuming you are significantly older than your behaviour in this thread would indicate.

1) Have you ever changed employers?

2) Have you ever received a pay rise?

3) Have you ever asked for a pay rise?

4) Have you ever significantly increased your productivity and sought adequate compensation for it?

5) Have you ever watched someone else make squillions of pounds off of selling pictures of you? (Please don't answer this if said pictures involve goats.)

6) If someone else was making squillions of pounds off of selling pictures of you, would you want as much of that action as you could bargain for?

7) Have you ever pined for home when in a foreign country?

8) Have you ever acted like a bit of a tit to get your way?

9) Have you ever said stupid shit or played both ends a little as a bargaining tool?

10) Have people ever lied about you, with others automatically and hysterically assuming the worst in spite of there being a track record of those people telling lies to all and sundry?

11) Have you ever scored 42 goals in a single season?

Thank you,
Jason

There should be no money involved.

He should play for free.

No, actually he should pay Uncle Malc for getting the opportunity to play!

It is about right action.

Or something.

George suffered from alcholism, a disease that tends to effect sufferers social functions, not egotism.

He also suffered from an addictive and life-destroying disease known as AVDS - Acute Vaginal Desire Syndrome.

Most men have it without even realising it. Sadly, George had an extreme case, one that was only made worse and enabled by Miss World after Miss World.

Not to mention that carrot is in sunny Spain, as opposed to rainy Manchester :smirk:

People's reactions to the current Ronaldo saga breaks down into a few categories, a mixed bag of sorts, each with some truth to it.

There are the people who are offended by Ronaldo's apparent lack of loyalty to the club that undoubtedly took him from a raw Sporting youngster to the world's best player, whether he would have reached the same heights elsewhere is irrelevant... The problem with this point of view is that players do not universally appreciate the contributions of the clubs that helped them develop. If they did, for one, West Ham would be in the top three every year. Ronaldo has never been shy to express his desire to play in Spain, and as wrong as it may seem, he may have been using United as a stepping stone to get there.

There are the people who want him to go ahead and feck off if he can't come out and clarify his feelings on the issue of his transfer. All I can say is, REMEMBER RIO and how far he's come since his transfer saga. So far, in fact, that people are calling for him to be the next captain... The point I want to make is that this Ronaldo situation has been blown tremendously out of proportion by the media and the fans reaction to the stories. I choose not to believe that this decision for Ronaldo is not as simple as who can splash out the most contract cash. He is being pulled from all directions by people close to him and is considering the what would be the best move for his career and himself, not to mention being relied upon to lead his country in an important international tournament.

One thing that I'm sure of is that he made the right move in making it perfectly clear that he won't be answering any questions about it until after the tournament.

Ronaldo has been with United for five years and has just now reached the heights that we all could see was possible. He seems to realize that Sir Alex and the United coaching staff played a major role in that and deserve some degree of loyalty. He has also formed visible friendships with Nani and Anderson, among others, who have just joined and won't be going anywhere. There are also still things to be won and an emerging core of superstar youngsters that could lead to this United squad to become an unstoppable force both at home and abroad, something that any player would want to be a part of.

It would probably be best to just enjoy the Euros, and try not to get too worked up by media bullshiit.......which is easier said than done

Unusually wise words and calm logic for a thread like this. Good on you sir.

Of course it bothers me! It fecking sucks.

But I understand how a footballer from the Iberian peninsuala, who grew up supporting Real Madrid, who is fecked off with the Manchester weather, who has family members bending his ear about a move, who has a Spanish missus, who is being offered an unbelievable amount of money etc. etc. etc, would be - at the very least - torn between a move and sitting tight.

And when that footballer has brought us so much recent success, I'm not gonna crucify him for being tempted.

As for all his ambiguity about the move (and somehow "messing us round") I would be a lot more pissed off if he was any less indecisive. The fact he is so clearly still in two minds makes me a lot less inclined to hate the guy.

Madeira is a very long way from the Iberian peninsular. It's more like saying someone from Gigraltar would naturally want to play in England (ignoring the weather factor!)

Nick 0208 Ldn sums up all that is great about this forum. He's one of the best, most sensibile and thoughtful posters; he sparks interesting debate with his threads, and he knows what he's talking about when it comes to football

Jasonrh sums up all that is shite about this forum. He talks out of his arse from one post to the next, if the heat gets too much he resorts to posting pictures of cats. He doesn't know much about football and it shows

So I see Nick and Jason are at odds. As per usual, one talks sense while the others words steam like shit...

Rio Confident Of Ronaldo Stay

The English giant are growing increasingly anxious and annoyed with the attempts of Real Madrid to keep the fires stoked with regard to a deal, as well as the fact that Ronaldo himself is more than happy to keep everybody guessing.

Despite the worrying indications, the Red Devils captain remains confident that the 42-goal man will ultimately stay true to the club's colours.

"As a footballer of Manchester United and as a fan, I would like to think he will stay, and I am quite positive of him staying," said the England star.

"I haven't spoken to him, but I just feel he will. He is at a great club, with great team-mates and great fans who adore him. Hopefully he makes the decision that we all want and he will stay.

Ferdinand went on to suggest that good news was certainly on the way in regards to other key players committing to the club.

"A lot of the players are signing up. In the last couple of months myself, Wes Brown and Michael Carrick have all signed up,” he added.

“I think Patrice Evra has agreed a new contract, Wayne Rooney is staying, Edwin van der Sar has extended his contract; everyone's singing from the same hymn book.”

Different set of circumstances.

More personal than club related.

Strictly for the student of the media - everyone else can look away now.

Here are 4 versions of the same informal press conference and what 4 different reporters "heard"

Express:
“I do not know what my future will be.

“After the Euros we will deal with it. Does the speculation affect me? What do you think? No. I feel good. But I’m now in a mindset that I cannot allow myself to worry about these things and for that reason I am calm.”

Guardian:
"The speculation doesn't affect me. I feel good, I feel calm and this is the most important thing. I'm in a mindset now where I cannot allow myself to worry about these things and for that reason, I am calm.

"If you feel good, you don't have a lot of pressure in your head and the football comes good. After the Euro, I will talk about my future. I don't know already what the future holds after the Euro."

"I need to think about the Euro." "I don't need to think 'What about my future?' I know my future is good. My focus is only to play good in the Euros."

Telegraph
He ignored direct questions about any move to Spain.

"I need to think about my future," he said. "I know my future is good. I feel good, I feel calm.

"If you don't ask a lot of questions in your head then the football will come good. That's what I try to do every time. My colleagues, my friends, my coaches help me all the time. And I feel very good, I feel on good form.

"The speculation about my future does not affect me. No, no. I feel well. But I'm now in a mindset that I cannot allow myself to worry about these things and for that reason I am calm. After the Euro I will talk about my future. After."

The Mirror has what might be closest to transcript:
"You tell me I played well, so it. No, does not affect me no. I feel well. I'm now in a mindset that I cannot allow myself to worry about these things and for that reason I am calm.

"I feel good, I feel calm and I think this is the most important thing. If you feel good you don't have a lot of pressure in your head, the football comes easily.

"This is what I try to do and you know my colleagues, my friends and my coaches are helping me all the time and I feel good. I feel on good form.

"Now I need to think about the Euros. This is the most important thing for me. We started very well and if we can continue like that on Wednesday and in the rest of the tournament, we have a great chance.

"I know we have good, mature team with a good spirit. We're going to go to the next level and I believe every time I'm going to score.

"So I don't need to think 'what about my future?' I know my future is good. But my focus is only to play good in the Euros."

"I have not yet decided what I am going to do in the future. I will only decide at the end of the tournament."

Now compound that with three different languages, three different press corps and the continuous recycling of quotes between them - even "quotes" aren't always what they sound like - especially if you want to read things into every word and between every line. Decide about the future? Talk about the future? Doesn't yet know what his future holds?

If Ronaldo or Mendes were ready to give a definite answer they'd put a written statement in three languages on Gestifute or at least stick someone in front of a camera to do it.

Meanwhile the press are feeding off each others scraps. Marca runs a story explaining to a Spanish audience the concept of "asking to be transfer listed" and the British press turn it into - "Ronaldo could ask to be transfer listed," say Marca, as if it implies some kind of inside knowledge. The Sun runs with a "Ronaldo could strike" headline and Marca goes with a story about the British press saying that Ron could go on strike to demand a move.

And who's the one criticising, making sarcastic comments and calling other people names?

That's why I'm not up there with the likes of Nick in the posting elite Sony

When I do post on topic, there's a more than reasonable chance that my contribution has been considered, and even if you don't agree with it, has some substance to back it up. When can you ever say that about a Jason post?

I don't hate them Chris. Just a time and a place for them, that's all...
Oh good. Cats are brilliant, I rate them.

Sorry about that whole "you're a racist" thing Brad, I'm just a little on edge right now over the whole Ronaldo deal. First the knee injury, then the transvestites and now this. Feck me, what a life!

Hm... :p The worst part is when his clique comes and they start attacking a certain poster and they support each other. Anw, this is not the place for this and it's just the internet. This place can be a lot better if they would stop putting labels on certain posters making the rest biased against them. This way discussion would be healthier and constructive. It's a forum, which means that there are going to be many views you don't agree with, but, considering whether they are a wind up or not, they express because we care for the team.:)

the clique (which does exist) should stay firmly in the general forum and talk solely about shitting in handbags and calling each other cnuts.
this probably is the place to talk about it because chances are they wont venture into this thread.
i generally just read on this site (cos i´m thick as mince) but there are still some educated and thoughtful posters and i agree that there are going to be many views i dont agree with but the attacking and sometimes driving away from this site of posters purely because they said something that didnt conform to the cliques opinion should be addressed by the site owners.
its kind of turned into the old saying "the lunatics running the asylum"
