ALL Ronaldo's future/comments/speculation

Ronaldo's unique. He shouldn't fall under any wage structure deal. As Real say he's worth 500M to them. They're looking at the future. Any money we pay Ronaldo will come back 10 fold....surely our suits can see that. Madrid have seen it. We can't, imo, keep on with this hard line about only one year into his contract. Since he signed that last year he's become the BPITW and we should be providing him somehow with the funds that that position demands. Surely he's the most marketable sportsman on the planet

I agree with all of that. Break the wage structure if necessary, but keep him for commercial reasons AND to win trophies. I'm confident that the club won't sell him this summer.

Agreed. Sort out this image rights thing with Nike (if it isn't tabloid bollocks) and make him so well paid that he will stay forever (or another 3 seasons anyway).

spot on that. agree with everything you said Bahama Red.

Wages are a bribe now?

In the context of the question, yeah probaly.

I don't remember huge outrage when Keane broke the wage structure, then (iirc) van Nistelrooy, then Giggs with his multi-year deal.

Funny that.

So you would match whatever Real were offering?

What is being suggested is more than a mere break, and why do that for a player who could very well be off in a years' time?

In any case, i am still of the opinion that money is a minor issue in the greater scheme of things here for Ronaldo. It is more the strength of his desire to play for Real Madrid. Which IMO would show him in a better light than your stance for instance.

btw I think Fergie will move heaven and hell to keep Ronaldo for at least until he plans to retire in say 3 years....Fergie had two goals in his fading years....to win the Champions League a second time...And to win that 18th title...thus finally overhauling Liverpool as the most successful side in England....it may be a big ask to win it next year...after all us and Liverpool have done three wins in a row...Once each....but with Ronaldo we have a damn good chance of winning the title at least once more in the next two or three years....once Fergie has that win I think he will leave it to Carlos to convince Ronaldo to stay longer.....

An image rights deal isn't a break of a wage structure.

And increased wages for just a year wouldn't be so horrid, would it? If you're so convinced he's only here for a year more. If "fans" of the club who don't have a clue spout vitriol at him all year then I can definitely see the possibility a self-fulfilling prophesy there, though.

No one but Chelsea (and even Roman would likely balk at that) could match them, and Real or others certainly wouldn't pay that for anyone else, so it isn't like others would suddenly demand quadruple wages because the best player in the world is getting more money.

We don't actually know what any of these people are on, nor have any clue of what is currently being talked about in terms of numbers or negotiations.

To get all self-righteous and pious about "bribes" over payment and wage discussions that we don't have a clue of, and to condemn our best player in a decade or more over it, is more than a just little bit premature and histrionic.

Giggs said he needed a multi-year deal and rejected a new contract when there was only one remaining year on his contract. That broke the contract structure. No one was clamoring to murderise the cnut!!!111!! Giggs and his mother. But then the TM crowd and the teenyboppers have been wanting him out for a decade...

we had this magic combination of Best the most marketable footballer and Manchester United in the 60s....that combination was a big reason for United becoming a huge Global name in those days...the closest we have come since was Becks....but he was no Best....finally we have a player equal to Best....and with him now becoming the World Number 1...and combining that to Manchester United's name.....the club should be minting money.....and Ronaldo knows this...he wants in on the action.....

you got it spot on jason.....

but of course you will have those who are still suffering latent pains re: Ronaldo and England and using this as an excuse to burn the player in effigy.....

Got it in one!

The hatred of him became so amazingly intense after that as just another way to cover up from the pathetic failure that the English national team is. But it doesn't even stem from that solely - there have been those with an axe to grind from the start.

Before that in 2004 he should go because he dared play for his club in the Olympics and because he laughed or something when Portugal knocked England out of the Euros.

In between "the laugh" and "the winker" he should go because he was a useless show-pony who was going nowhere and (some said) destroying team morale by upsetting Ruud.

He's never been accepted by quite a few (largely Little Englander types) after Beckham left and they got some Portuguese teenager on the wing - largely because of Ole's knee injury instead of him directly replacing their beloved marketing machine.

The Euros in 2004, and then the World Cup, have turned Ronaldo-hating into a serious growth industry.

Even last summer he was getting attacked for not showing enough loyalty by asking for a contract extension when he still had one, so that he too could get an increase in wages as did Rooney when we gave him that insanely long contract extension a couple of years ago.

Just like this year, in 2006 every single "statement" out of Madrid or from some bullshit newspaper was automatically the truth, no matter how silly. Even when I had my wife translate Portuguese interviews to prove the British media was out and out lying he was still a cnut!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!!!!!!.

It is truly pathetic, and is the real betrayal here. Considering what he has done for the club, the pious cnut!!!!!!!!111!!!! crowd should be ashamed of themselves.

Huddersfield Town from 1924-6 and the dominant Arsenal side of 1933-5 also had three title wins in a row.

So four clubs have done it in the top flight, but only two since the Second World War. On the plus side, both of those were within the last 25 years so it is definitely possible in the modern game.

You seem to be forgetting one crucial point, i do not believe that he is chasing the £££, so have not condemned him for it.

Yes, i have criticised the act or the prinicple, but they are nto the same thing.

After Ronnie's achievements this last year I don't think there are many of those type of fans left. We've grown to really admire him this year, I have anyway. He's become a one off. A freak. And then........we hear he may want to leave......even I've called him a cnut on here and I'm one of his greatest fans. He's not really given much thought about his fans in all this. (That's us by the way). It's not betrayal just human nature.

we Can hope Ronaldo does not log on to the Cafe though......

As I said above, assuming that he's trying to figure out money issues, then he needs to look out for himself in this way.

Some Swiss dickhead could snap his neck this week and his career could be over.

He's 23. What does he do for the other 60 years of his life?

I mean thats just it...so how long is a professional footballers life?

but of course he can turn into a cnut like Platini and become a two faced politician.....forgot about that....

He could never pull it off. Ronaldo is hated by basically everyone except his mother, his agent, and his bank manager.

I'll repeat my emotions as I posted at the beginning of this thread. I still feel the same....the options

He goes now. feck off
He wants to have one more year and then go. feck off now.
See out the 4 year left on his contract, here, then leave. Welcome back BPITW
Say he wants to stay with us as long as we want him. Legend.

Also, assuming he makes 100k a week puts him at just over 2.5m a year.

Say he has a ten year career at that level.

That's 25m. He'd be 33. Assume he doesn't spend a single pound of it.

Now, assuming that current life expectancies continue to climb, it is quite likely he'd live another 50 years.

That's 500k per year, and it really isn't all that much when you take inflation into account and the lifestyle that is expected of him.

Agreed 100% BahamaRed

If he's staying I'd rather he stay for at least 3/4 years OR he leave now itself rather than wait for a year.....

If he's off next year, I just think for this whole year his heart won't be in it as much after what all's happened this summer, Plus I don't think his value can peak any higher than it already is (unless he does exceptionally well in the European Championships as well!).... Plus would be better the quicker we adjust to his absence and his replacement or whoever takes his place has more time to adjust..

Cash in on him either now, or let him see out his contract and have him try to win back the supporters and entertain us like he's been doing the last 2 years.

It's either he's fully committed to us, or his heart is in Madrid.. Middle ground's not going to be beneficial to anyone..

The sad thing is this is not the first time something like this has happened (IF THE following quotes at the time are to be believed)
Anyone remember this from 2 years ago?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/5120332.stm

You would think he would have learned...

To be honest, I don't think this is going to be over anytime before August.

I say we should keep him, if only for one more year. We are on the verge of matching Liverpool's 18, we are in with a shout of winning 7 trophies, a double 3-leagues-in-a-row, possible number 4 European Cup. We could acheive a lot this season. It would also give the club time to prepare for his absence.

For me he's well on the way to "legend" status. Certainly he has been an amazing phenomenon already.

Two years and he'll clinch it if he can come close to the numbers and influence he had in 2006/07 (because last year just ain't happening again, folks...another reason for him to get what he can now).

He's never going to stay with us the rest of his career. Hell, Scholes has said in the past he wanted to go play for Oldham before he retired. Keane acrimoniously was free transferred to Celtic. Best was all-but fired. Law was unceremoniously dumped. Giggs' and Nevilles are few and far between. It isn't fair to judge him on those standards.

I'm quite pleased with what we did last year, and I worry about expectations on the team regardless of who is on it.

I would be well chuffed if we just played beautiful and exciting football, gave our all, and ended up potless (provided a certain other club does as well).

Remember 01/02. There are a lot of lessons to be learned from that season.

That's Manchester United, with or without Ronaldo

To condemn our best player in over a decade for that which we don't really know anything about except what we see on RealMadridTV is both a betrayal and histrionics.

Oh how we move the goal posts Jason eh, and even then your exageration let's you down.

And i have not betrayed this club, not in the least, i resent such an accusation.

You'll struggle to pin the majority of those charges on plenty of the known England supporters on this board, at least from what i can recall.

They may have judged him on his behaviour, his handling of the situation, his words, but abusive as you have claimed above and before, rarely if at all.

IMHO.

And you obviously don't remember 2006 or you were in a red haze.
