That statement basically means Fergie said, 'Ronaldo leaves this summer over my dead body'.
Surely Madrid won't have Fergie offed? Right? That statement basically means Fergie said, 'Ronaldo leaves this summer over my dead body'.
Good job, United. Doubt FIFA will do anything though.

On another note, didn't we try to settle Benzema among others not so long ago? Even Palacio and that other Wigan cnut were unsettled. Pretty childish that "reporting" to FIFA imo.
Can't understand the fuss, to be honest. I'm sure Ronaldo can, and probably have been made aware of the interest through his agent. Can't really see the extra threat to his position at the club by some comments made to the press. If the player wants to leave then he can feck off, and as he's under a long term copntract Real will have to ask Juan Carlos for a hefty transfer fee. If he wants to stay then the club should know about it and let Real fill the papers with whatever fantasies they wish.

Club statement
Manchester United has issued the following statement regarding Cristiano Ronaldo's future:
Manchester United has watched with growing irritation the comments attributed to Real Madrid over their alleged desire to sign Cristiano Ronaldo. The facts are:
The player is on a long-term contract and his registration is held by Manchester United
The player is not for sale
The Club will have no alternative but to report Real Madrid to the world governing body, FIFA, if it continues to behave in this totally unacceptable fashion. These public attempts to unsettle the player are completely against the regulations and the Club will not tolerate them any longer.
In addition, the Club is certain that they are a distraction for the Portuguese national squad as they prepare for the European Championships. No-one should be in any doubt that Manchester United will do everything in its power to keep its best players.

Time for ronaldo to speak, only he can clear the air and put an end to this once and for all,he needs to say he wants to stay,as soon as he does that all the speculation is over.End of story.

I hope we are not accused of hyprocrisy.

We were interest in him but we didnt use a newspaper every feckin day to unsettled Hargo.
Just out of curiosity I counted up the number of Marca front pages http://www.marca.com/primeras/08/mayo08.html Ronaldo's had this month - 10 up to and including yesterday and that's ignoring the "Diary of Operation Cristiano" coverage on the inside pages. Last time they got this excited about him was last March Amazing really given that he:
- doesn't play in Spain
- isn't Spanish
- the Spanish team are training for the Euros
AS is contributing with its team of undercover reporters in Viseu and their ongoing campaign to get a photo of Ron stood in front of a poster of himself in a Madrid shirt.
But Marca and AS aren't Real Madrid, which is why Schuster's comments are instructive. Not only does he thank us for turning Ron into a good pro and a team player he talks about the media feeding frenzy that would surround him at Madrid being far worse than he's experienced with United and how Real would have to "sort out the problem" . As if Madrid wouldn't be at the front of the exploitation crew - they broadcast Beckham's medical - they'd have Ron sliced, diced and packaged in minutes. They'd have to - to pay back the loan they'd need.
I hope we are not accused of hyprocrisy.

Obviously they aren't but they work undercover for Madrid. They create and start rumours that unsettle players and this is the way to push the deals.
They blame the newspapers and try to appear not guilty of any aproach but thats the only way they can show their interest and expect the player to do what they want.
They know the subject is clear and everybody knows Manchester United's point about Ronaldo.
we expressed interest .. we had signed carrick
they asked us to backoff , we did
made a formal bid in jan
their board said theres no way that they would sell before the end of the season.. said something like we dont need the money , we will sell when we want to .. (dont remember the exact words)
made a bid in the summer and signed
we never had a car waiting with his name on it ..
we didnt have fergie come out and annouce everyday that we wanted to sign hargreaves and he never made comments saying he would be our player next season ..
no figures were thrown around in the media ..
there wasnt much talk of hargreaves other than when the transfer window was open ..
it was just like any transfer negotiation , which the media got a sniff of and it became a big deal because he was english
what madrid are doing is completely different
talking about the wages , how much more they would pay a player .. thats just wrong
hope calderon signs tyrone mears for 40m
Jokers said:Ramon Calderón: Christian he must get wet in public
P. POLE/J.F. DIAZ. Madrid and Bucharest
· The dream of Christian is to play in Real Madrid
The Christian operation follows its course. Ramon Calderón met with his Board of directors in Santiago Bernabéu and he bought up to date to them of how it is the situation. The president of Real Madrid raised the head, watched his managers and affirmed of a full form that the work is done. Now we depend on the player, to end up adding who who must get wet publicly now is the soccer player.
Real Madrid is not in a hurry. The steps fundamental to leave the subject directed already are taken. To who is called on to him to move card is to Ronaldo Christian and everything aims at it will do that it sooner or later. In the heart of Manchester United also they are conscious that the subject is being put ugly. The fact that the Portuguese soccer player does not cut the speculations it is a clear symptom that the things do not go as they try.

Sir Alex Ferguson will fly out to Portugal's Euro 2008 training camp in Switzerland to persuade Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Manchester United. (Daily Mirror)
Real have now moved to ease the growing tension between the two clubs, but do insist that the problem lies between United and the player.
"We haven't done, nor will we do anything against the wishes of a club that we consider a friend like Manchester United," Calderon said on the club's official website.
"Our relationship with Manchester is magnificent and we will not do anything that would violate the will of a team, just as we would not like that done to us.
"We know Manchester doesn't want to sell and we have nothing to say. It's a problem between the player and his team."
