i think something in the region of 60mil is a tad more realistic

well in the beckham deal madrid made hundreds of millions of euros of shirt sales and advertisements tied into beckham.... with that 20% of shirt sales ads and anything else for 5 years an 60 million pound deal will turn into an 100 million plus deal with added incentives

Ronaldo bans Man United manager from Portugal training camp

June 6, 2008

So Cristiano Ronaldo has gone and done it. The Portuguese forward finally came out yesterday and revealed what most of us were suspecting - that he no longer wants to play for Manchester United and would prefer to join the club so fond of flattering to deceive instead - Real Madrid. Not that a move from England to Spain is guaranteed, with plenty of negotiations and discussion to take place first.

However, The Times reports that the world’s best player has said his piece and now no longer wants to talk with anyone about his club future until after Euro 2008. Audaciously, this includes Sir Alex Ferguson, who must be seething at the fact that Ronaldo has stopped him from making contact or visiting Portugal’s training camp in an attempt to speak with the player.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s faltering relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson appeared to deteriorate further yesterday when the Portugal winger effectively banned the Manchester United manager from visiting his country’s European Championship training camp.

In an embarrassing snub, Ronaldo has told team-mates that Ferguson is not welcome in Switzerland, bringing a premature end to proposals for peace talks that surfaced in the light of his continued flirtation with Real Madrid.
Goodness me, one suspects that this saga has a long way to run yet. Things are clearly now on hold for all three parties until the end of June, when a player, his advisors and two of the biggest football clubs in the world attempt to resolve the situation. Fergie will be angry a) because he’s losing his best player, b) because United won’t win anything without him, c) because he’s going to have egg on his face and d) because Real Madrid are set to have the last laugh.
Should he just step down as Man United manager and leave Carlos Queiroz to pick up the pieces?

AF, it's now obvious that CR has really never had his heart at MU so it's time to cash in and go find some new gems. In truth CR's posturing and increasingly petulant behaviour on the field was becoming an embarrassment towards the end of the season. It is just so refreshing to see players like Tevez so new to the club yet so willing and clearly already wearing MU on their sleave. CR's real ambitions have always been outside of the UK and good luck to him as I am sure he will be a great player whereever he goes. I just hope his posturing and arrogant behaviour on the field is replaced by his undoubted abilities, because if not he may never again reach the heights he has done so far. One thing he sadly lacks is true class, that belongs to the Scholes and Giggs's of the world, true professionals who have been a credit to this beautiful game. In Tevez, Hargreaves and possibly Anderson you have found players who may just begin to live up to those names. It's time to find some more.

Ronaldo banning Fergie from visiting him is rubbish. Has to be.

people beginning to give in now...fact is there is no-one to replace him.(that united can get)..and united would be severley dented without him..this is not the same situation as nistelrooy or beckham..
see what happened with stam..he went, united went downhill for a few years..

if thats true he really is a selfish prick. At least he could speak to him face to face and let saf get on with finding replacements.

Sexy French newsreader Melissa Theuriau has added her voice to those calling for Ronaldo to commit his future to Manchester United.

"Ronaldo makes me moist. I want to see him win things and, let's face it, that is more likely in Manchester than in Madrid," Theuriau said.

MelissaTheuriau.png

"Sometimes when I watch Man United I touch myself. My boyfriend supports PSG but what does he know? At least he doesnt support Madrid - surely Europe's most contemptible, self-important bunch of pricks."

Theuriau also refused to rule out a move to the North West to read the local news for Granada. "My English is quite good, and it has always been a dream of mine to live in the North of England," she said.

Blah, blah, blah.

Look at some examples of what he actually definitely said:

1 'I (want to) stay.' (Repeatedly.)

2 'I have dreamt of playing for Madrid.'

3 'No one knows the future' - (eg. even though I might want to stay, Utd might want to sell me.)

4 'I hope to be able to say something about my future in 2 weeks / 2-3 days'.

Those are the actual recorded quotes - you've just been reading the media spin on those as if that was what he said or intended.

Some examples:

You ignore 1 - or assume that it is contradicted by 2 because you interpret that as 'I want to play for RM now'.

2 - see above.

3 - you read this as him saying he is undecided or keeping his options open - yet when Ronaldo insists only God knows the future he is not saying anything like your interpretation.

4 - you think this means he is saying there is a decision pending over whether he is moving or not (as opposed to the details of a possible new contract etc.)

If we assume that Ronaldo may well 'want to stay' but doesn't want to feel that he is being taken advantage of then he would say 'I want to stay' but will delay confirming this will take place until contract negotiations result in him being satisfied Utd recognise his worth.

All Christiano's remarks are consistent with the latter. His frequent and repeated remarks about him staying are not consistent with him wanting to move.

You must be a hoot at dinner parties...

BahamaRed this is the main issue of your life at the moment innit?

You'd think that after five years Ronaldo would have at least learned how to not act like a complete spacker.

He's got the brain of a really thick six year old.

"Don't bother asking me anymore"

Fat chance, and not that they'd need to anyway, now that you've dropped yourself in it.

Yes, because a Madridista is definitely going to get an exclusive interview saying what everyone has been wanting to hear (in the media), but only IN PRINT, and translated from Portuguese and then into English.

Then he's going to say "do not ask me any more about it" (something he has already said, so why would he grant this interview to a crap paper's Madrid reporter), so that the media will presumably say "see, he doesn't want to talk about it, therefore the Madridista paper interview was true".

Please use your brain and not react like a six year old spacker. He's obviously after more money, and he deserves it. He's currently on the same wage as WESLEY BROWN.

Oh dear. The gimps are back.

Yep.

What a joke

Regardless of what's gone on between him and Fergie though, it doesn't justify a need to spout off to some Brazilian website.

Unless it turns out he didn't, obviously

Suddenly noodle gets it!

Why would he? It doesn't make any sense that he would.

You're falling for the stupidity of the media.

If this "snub" was true then I can only think Madrid have told Ronaldo to do it to help force United to sell him.

Scolari echoes Ronaldo plea

Real transfer talk taken off the agenda

Scolari: Backing his wing wizard

Luiz Felipe Scolari has reiterated that Cristiano Ronaldo will not discuss his future until after Euro 2008.

Speculation is mounting that the Portuguese winger is set for a record-breaking switch to Real Madrid this summer.

The Manchester United ace has refused to discuss the situation in public, although quotes which emerged on Thursday appear to suggest that he has already set his sights on a move to Spain.

Having revealed his aspiration to join Los Blancos in a candid interview with Brazilian website Terra, he made it clear that he will not be taking more questions on the subject while Portugal are in European Championship action.

Questions

The saga has been ongoing for weeks and the decision to put it on the backburner has come as the transfer talk threatens to undermine Portugal's preparations for the upcoming tournament.

With Ronaldo ruling out the matter as a discussion topic, his international manager has also pleaded with the press to avoid the issue from now on.

"He will not talk (about his future) until after the Euros," said Scolari.

"Cristiano will tell you this every time you ask him, don't waste you questions anymore."

Not much there, tbh.

Yep.

Is he really I thought Ronnie earned around 120k per week while brown earns now around 60k per week.

Its childish at this stage to try to be funny about the whole affair! Its not about panicking about his move any more. It's crystal clear that he wants to move, and we don't want to sell. There is no need to try to take the matter lightly like you did there!

"Top-fan"? How does that work exactly?

I try to use a bit of logic and objectivity in assessing the situation, as opposed to running around with my hands in the air. I also try and empathise with the main protagonists involved, so I can get a better handle on the likely outcome.

This doesn't make me any more, or any less, of a fan than anyone else in this thread.

It will, however, prevent me from saying stuff that I might regret, at a later date.

pogue, you should know the rules here.

When retards go all drama-queen and SackFergieSellGiggs or similar total and utter stupidity, they try to inoculate themselves from their own utter foolishness by claiming those with logic and common sense are "playing the 'Top Red' card".

Muppets.

Real know that the Glazers are tempted to cash in on the player to reduce their debts, with Real prepared to offer some £70 million for the player's signature. It would also mean getting the player off the club's wage bill rather than going ahead with the new, but as yet unsigned, United contract worth over £140,000 a week.
Real are believed to have already agreed a deal with Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes. Now they just have to convince United to sell, something unthinkable to United fans and staff.
Real vice-president Vicente Boluda has been in direct contact with Malcolm Glazer and his family to discuss a possible deal, a well-placed Real source has revealed.
Ferguson has already sent a coded warning to the Glazers, declaring that he expected them to let the player rot away rather sell him to Real.

Broadsword calling Danny Boy, Broadsword calling Danny Boy....

At dinner parties it isn't usually required to correct someone as boringly, repetitively inaccurate as yourself - they normally get cut off much quicker.

You've got a bloody cheek calling anybody boring Feeding :nono:

Why do you assume that? You truely think this is all just a ploy to get a new contract still? Anyone with half a brain knows Ronaldo has signed his last contract for United now, it's merely a question of when he goes. His behaviour indicates he would like it to be now, but the 4 years he has left remaining here makes that extremely problematic. Your assumption is simple class A bullshit, you've picked a theory out of the air and are trying to pass it off as reality, when actually all his remarks are 'consistant' with him wanting to leave, but knowing it's essentially not his decision to make, he's bound by his contract

OK, I actually think this gives new credibility to the Terra story. What he says about the Euros is almost exactly what Ronaldo (allegedly) told yer man from Terra.

Which leaves us with a situation where:
  • Ronaldo does fancy a move to Real (although we don't know when)
  • But he is leaving the decision up to Manchester United
  • United have said they won't sell
  • Calderon said Madrid are backing off
  • Ronnie's old dear thinks he'll be back at United next season

All of which means, he'll be here next season. But it will be his last.

Close the thread.

So Marca, a Brazilian website with links to Madrid, and a Madrid-based reporter have said Ronaldo wants to go to Madrid?

Oh well definitely no bias in that then. Would never suspect journalists in Madrid of making up quotes and stories to try and help the club get a player. They've never done that before. Ever. Ever.

And Ronaldo should stop training for the European Championships, one of the few things he hasn't won so far in his career, and say "I stay, I stay! I fecking stay you gullible feckwits!" Just so there can be 300 pages on the Caf of "Well, I always knew he was a cnut, he called us gullible feckwits just because we all went jumping off cliffs at the first site of a dodgy indirect quote, I hope we sell him to New York Red Bulls and get Angel, coz his fkin amazin innit"

This thread is becoming very annoying. All rational thought has been suspended and we are now entering the world of ubber muppetry!!

The last quote I have actually seen that I'm 100% came from Ronaldo was when he wanted to stay at United next season.
Whether he said he dreams of playing for Madrid one day or not I couldn't give a flying monkeys.
As far as I concerned he is staying until he says otherwise

What Ronnie has said, if it is to be believed, is that if Real put their money where their mouth is, he'll go. What I want to know is...what monies are we talking here...300K for him, 70M for United? That's big money. For Ronnie AND United. I do believe this is being negotiated behind the scenes right now, with Real and the Glazers, SAF and Gill, Mendes and Real (and Ron's mum)
