If you had clicked the link then you'd be directed to the famous "you are an idiot" site.

I noticed the last few characters of the link seemed odd - all I got off the link recently was 'unavailable' though - I didn't check it when scrolling through since I had about 15 more pages to go to get up to date. ;)

I think he has said that he wants to leave, just not to people whom the majority of United fans might believe. He might be here next season, but it will be his last with United.

The only direct quote any of us have heard from Ronnie was "I Stay" all the rest has been from "sources" and the supposed interview, that did not take place according to the portugese camp, was written by a journalist with very close connections with madrid ----- suprise suprise

If that is the case, then we'd be better off selling him now

Nonsense.

First of all, a lot can change in a season. Depending what happens here and at Real next season he may well decide on sticking where he is for another season after that. And another season after that etc.

Second of all, we will get no less money in a transfer next season than we will now. But we will get the services of the best player in the world to help us in our hunt for the holy grail, the "double double"

No-brainer really. If we can convince him to stay one more season we should.

You've committed the same fault again Feeding. He isn't 'willing' to play for Madrid' He WANTS to play for Madrid. For someone who analyses text as forensically as you seem to, that's quite a distinction. Ronaldo isn't an impassionate party here, the only circumstances that Ronaldo leaves is that United agree to sell. And United only agree to sell if they 1. climb down on their words that Madrid won't ride roughshod over us and 2. Ronaldo wants to go. Not willing, WANTS to go, drives the transfer, with Ferguson deciding his position at United is untenable and it's best to take the money rather than have a player at the club who wishes away

You're ignoring the crucial points - when and how much does he actually 'want' to play for RM?

He hasn't said he 'wants' to go NOW or at any specific time.

He hasn't said that that 'desire' to play for RM has to be fulfilled - he hasn't said that it over-rides any other desire - such as developing further in his existing supportive environment.

Many people experience conflicting desires - 'wanting' things that are mutually incompatible - what we end up doing is choosing between them at different times. 'Actually, I'd rather do this than that, even though I wanted to do that - maybe I'll be able to do that later - or maybe there'll be something I prefer even more by then.'

Ronaldo 'wanting to play for RM' is only a problem for you because you place the worst-case interpretation upon it. (...and that's assuming it wasn't just an inaccurate paraphrase of him being willing/happy to play for them.)

We could be in for some new unsettling options in the new FM at this rate.

"Conduct fake interview stating that *insert player* would like to join your club and sell it to paper"

"Ask *insert player*'s mother if he would like to join the club"

Kaka's Mother: 'Go to Manchester, Son'

Following Kaka's sensational come and get me plea to United, Kaka's mother has added more fuel to the fire by encouraging her son to join United. Speaking to respected Brazilian newspaper Terra from her home in Sao Paolo, she said, "He (Kaka) wants to leave Milan. It is true. It his dream to play in England and in Manchester. And as a mother I want my son to be happy. So when he told me about this I told him to follow his heart."

Mrs. Santos has no doubt that Kaka has what it takes to become a Manchester United legend. "As a young girl, I heard a lot about Manchester United. The Busby Babes, Best, Law and Charlton. I know Kaka is a good player and Ferguson will be able to bring the best out of him."

Given the imminent sale of Ronaldo to Real Madrid for a reportedly new world record £65million, Manchester United should have no problem funding Kaka's purchase. Whether this transfer merry go round does take place remains to be seen but whatever happens it'll be an eventful few days in 3 of Europe elite clubs' boardrooms.

He has also contradicted that stance too, or at least backed away from it and opted for something that gives him a get out.

If the interview didnt' tkae place we wouldnt' be abel to mvoe for denials in the media.

There is no guarentee that he'll fetch the same astronomical fee mentioned next summer. I'm not sure about the age criterion, but if he can buy out the remainder of his contract in 2 years, wouldn't it make our hand weaker 12 months prior to that deadline? In addition, Having him for another season could make us even more reliant on him, meaning a bigger gap when he leaves.

Last but certainly not least is the clock ticking on SAF's time as manager. As we're bound to lose Ronaldo within 2 years no matter what, I think it will take some effort rebuilding the team. We won't replace him like for like, as he's the best at what he does. There is no one in world football with better record in doing just that than SAF, and I'd rather see Ronaldo go when SAF is still in charge.

Gary Neville is doing the Portugal game tomorrow for ITV wonder if he will see and talk to Ronaldo. It will be intresting to see what he will say about it all.

Don't see why it would. If Real Madrid want to sign him next summer they will still need to cough up an enormous transfer fee. Besides, no way will he go another full two years without signing another contract.

In addition, Having him for another season could make us even more reliant on him, meaning a bigger gap when he leaves.

Don't think we will ever have a bigger gap to fill than 42 goals. The more time we have to find and sign an adequate replacement the better.

Last but certainly not least is the clock ticking on SAF's time as manager. As we're bound to lose Ronaldo within 2 years no matter what, I think it will take some effort rebuilding the team. We won't replace him like for like, as he's the best at what he does. Fair point.

But, at the end of the day, every season Ronaldo stays at United he significantly increases our chance of silverware, no matter who's in charge. If we can convince him to stay one more season we should, without a shadow of a doubt.

Sun Journalist 1: There he is it's Ronaldo.
Sun Journalist 2: Wow you're right, (Shouts) Hey! Ronnie!, Can you give us an interview please?

Ronaldo: No.
Sun Journalist 1: (Running after Ronaldo) Do you think Sir Alex Ferguson will come here to the Portuguese training camp to try to convince you to stay?

Ronaldo Why should he come here? he won't come here.
Ronaldo runs off to train leaving the 2 Journalists standing outside the training area.

Sun Journalist 1: I asked him if he thought SAF would come here to convince him to stay. He said "No not come here, why he come here? this is portuguese camp not Carrington."

Sun Journalist 2: Sounds like he does not want him around then.

SunJournalist 1: Exactly.

Sun Journalist 2: That's news then, Ronaldo says "Sir Alex Ferguson is not welcome here".

Sun Journalist 1: Good story.

That as far as I can make out is similar to the way these newspapers get most of their crazy stories. They drive me nuts:mad:

Cristiano Ronaldo stays at Man Utd, says his mother, as Real Madrid approach Glazers

Real Madrid are trying everything they can to get Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo to join them, but the player's mother believes that he may be forced to stay at Old Trafford for now.

The Spanish champions have been dealing directly with the Glazer family, United's American owners, behind the backs of manager Sir Alex Ferguson and chief executive David Gill.

Brave face: Ronaldo's club future remains uncertain
Real know that the Glazers are tempted to cash in on the player to reduce their debts, with Real prepared to offer some £70 million for the player's signature. It would also mean getting the player off the club's wage bill rather than going ahead with the new, but as yet unsigned, United contract worth over £140,000 a week.

Real are believed to have already agreed a deal with Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes. Now they just have to convince United to sell, something unthinkable to United fans and staff.

Real vice-president Vicente Boluda has been in direct contact with Malcolm Glazer and his family to discuss a possible deal, a well-placed Real source has revealed.

Ferguson has already sent a coded warning to the Glazers, declaring that he expected them to let the player rot away rather sell him to Real. But, having said he might be prepared to wait another year to get his man, Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon wants to bring the signing of the player forward.

advertisementCalderon, who promised to sign Ronaldo when he won the last club's presidential election, is under pressure from the club's members who last month decided to curb his powers as a first step towards trying to remove him from office. "For Madrid it is an honour to know that a player like him thinks that playing at Real Madrid would be good. We are proud to know that he would like to be with us," he said.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo's mother, Dolores Aveiro, who has made no secret of her desire to see her son play in white of Real, last night told Portuguese TV station TV1 that she expects him to stay at United for now. She said: "He's fine where he is. Only God knows the future, but what is certain is that he'll stay in England."

Yesterday, a Brazilian website report comments by Ronaldo that pushed the possible transfer back on the agenda. "I would like to play for Real Madrid, but only if it is true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them. However, it does not depend on me," Ronaldo was quoted as saying.

Portuguese officials tried to distance Ronaldo from the comments, insisting that he had not given any interviews, but the quotes have raised the stakes in the bitter battle between United and Real for the player.

Ronaldo said before the Champions League final last month that he had ambitions to play in Spain, prompting Ferguson to say United had to win more major trophies to keep the player at Old Trafford. Last night United confirmed the club's position.

"There is no change," they said. "It is just the same as yesterday, the day before and the day before that. Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale."

Reportedly Ferguson had cut short a holiday in France to attempt to convince his player to stay at Old Trafford, although Ronaldo is understood to have told his club manager he is not welcome. As such, Ferguson is now unlikely to make the trip to Switzerland.

Although many international managers would look down on the idea of a club manager interfering with their preparations for a major tournament, Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was apparently willing to let Ferguson speak to the Portugal winger if the player wished.

Ronaldo and his team-mates will open Euro 2008 against Turkey in Geneva on Saturday, and according to the Daily Express, a source within the Portugal camp said: "Scolari is a sensitive man. He wants Ronaldo's mind to be settled so he can play his best football for Portugal. Normally he would not allow a club manager into the camp. But he cares about his players.

"If Ronaldo wants to see Ferguson he will let him, just to put an end to this."

Apparently fromthose quotes yesterday Dolores now fears Cristiano will be FORCED to stay. Where the feck does she even imply that! Honestly.

wtf!? looks like all these journos are scum.

Apparently fromthose quotes yesterday Dolores now fears Cristiano will be FORCED to stay. Where the feck does she even imply that! Honestly.

I've long since lost faith in 99% of sports journalists coming up with anything interesting/worth reading. I just skip straight to the quotes and if there's nothing new - which there rarely is - I just ignore all the rest.

If I want padding and inane speculation I can find it on the caf. And it's a lot less likely to have an ABU spin.

I want to see Real Madrid put their money where their mouth is. Go on. Offer us £100m (oh yes in pounds!) for him and we will still turn them down.

Not sure we'd turn down £100m. Let's face it, he's not going to reproduce the type of season he's just had. . .and in no way is his value ever going to be higher. We could do loads with that type of cash, and I'd rather Fergie be at the helm if/when it happens, than any other manager.

This thread is just doomed to drown in crap media reports.

I can't believe a world where BBC and The Guardian base articles on a story "from a respected brazilian website". Thank feck it's not one of those dodgy Brazilan websites eh?

I can't believe we're getting articles from the Daily Telegraph reporting as fact the fantasy that Fergie was flying to Switzerland to talk to Ronaldo but got warned off by Ronaldo. Come on, this is all just wild speculation in the blind information vacuum.

I can't believe we're getting muppets coming out of the woodwork saying they always hated Ronaldo anyway after the incident with Rooney inthe World Cup. Little Englanders like that can feck off and support Chelsea or Leeds.

I suggest everyone drop out of this media merry-go-round. Ronaldo is going to be playing for United next season.

It's a nice day outside. Why not chill out, maybe play a bit of football in the park, or play some guitar, like these cool noggies:

I've just pulled this from the Mail:

Ferguson was earlier reported to be willing to cut short his holiday in France to attempt to travel to Switzerland to convince his star player to stay at Old Trafford. Although that is not the case, Ronaldo's latest stance will place further strain on their relationship.

That paragraph sums up journalism in this country. It translates as:

Basically we made something up which we reported as fact. However it wasn't true. Despite this we will make some more wild assumptions about the whole thing.

Hopefully more bullshit from Madrid's propeganda vehicle.

from the sound of all that has been said, it sounds like it is about an improved contract...the huge double his pay must include his image rights...
so if the Glazers are just looking at their investment short term...Ronaldo will be gone....
for me whether Ronaldo stays or goes will be an indication of the Glazers wanting to asset strip the club or not.

We've said exactly the same thing last year actually, you never know with Ronnie.

If this is true then Madrid deserve to have the fecking book thrown at them.

Isn't negotiating with a player without the a clubs permission "tapping up"? and thus illegal?

fecking Madrid. I hate them more than Chelsea and Liverpool.
