his mum says he is staying and if she's anything like mine i wouldn't argue

I hope so. But she also said this a while back:

"If Ronaldo leaves United for Real Madrid I can die happy", says his influential mum

"They are my favourite team, the best in the world,"

You have trouble following my posts.

I said sentiment is the domain of the fan - presumably you realise that includes you. Presumably also you can grasp the idea that I put forward about football generally being a greedy business dominated by money and that it is not too far fetched to think that Ronaldo not being a Manc or even and Englishman might suggest the sentiment on his side where United is concerned might not be as strong as some fans might like it to be? He's on 120k a week, he's said he's always wanted to play for Madrid. What's he doing that's so shocking as far as you are concerned? Do you think this idea that he owes United carries any weight? Really? Do you think 99% of clubs wouldn't sell any of their players if the money was right?

Fair enough foreign players may not have the sentiment we expect from Englishmen, and they can do the utmost for their own good, to the extent they harm the club's business interest. But you also have to bear in mind it's not simply because he is a foreign player (which is one of the reasons you used to 'JUSTIFY' his action and behaviour). You seem to have forgotten we have so many foreigner players who'd shown the passion and loyalty towards the club! So there is really flaw in your argument, and in your justification of his action basing on the fact he is foreign.

It's not about we being shocked or not, but we at United were not used to have players having their way showing such disrespect to the club.

As to your question about whether clubs would sell at the right price, you are not getting anywhere, aren't you? Running a club is running a business so it's always business decision. What has it got to do with my condemnation of the player who has done everything to damage our business interest?

Wearing a united cap. Thats old.

She said on TV that he's staying yesterday. On TV, not brazillian newspaper by a journalist from Madrid.

Stays or goes he is a cnut for making mockery out United by continually wanting to lick calderon's balls at Madrid

Im not sure I actually want him to stay anymore, regardless of what he says.

The guy has made a mockery of our club, of Sir Alex, and of our fans. He clearly still thinks he's bigger than the club and his attitude clearly hasn't changed since his plea to move to madrid a few years back.

Sad but inevitable.

Lets hope his successor has 'loyalty' among his other footballing attributes.

What amazes me is that the BBC are still running with this Terra non story. Then again maybe not they are loving this.

Maybe because they spoke to Julio Gomes, the Terra reporter selected by Ronaldo's people t conduct the interivew.

The transcipt of which is on page i thik.

It's a weird one alright.

Both this and the massive Ramsey thread (i.e. the two threads about the players most likely to actually join/leave this transfer window) are both in this forum.

No idea why.

At first it was reported that the Ramsey deal was done. I guess it was meant to be a Player thread to discuss about him rather than transfer news.

The thing is mate, very few footballers love the clubs they play for. Gary Neville is probably the only first team player at United who truly truly loves the club. Sure there's always Scholes and Giggsys. But the point I am making is that, players care less for emotions.

They do not have to love a club to respect it, or behave with some dignity so as to reflect well on themselves even.

How exactly is he making a mockery of us??

One minute he claims he wants to stay here for many years, the next he admits a madrid move is tempting. After our CL triumph he makes it clear he wants to stay, now he's thinking....hang on Madrid...I quite fancy that. On top of that, if he supposedely treated Sir Alex, a man that has brought where he is today, by banning him from the Portugese training camp, is disrespect of the highest grade.

That my friend, is making a mockery of our club.

United warned over FIFA action.

http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_36e57057,00.html

...
Top sports lawyer Mel Goldberg has warned Manchester United that reporting Real Madrid to FIFA over their pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo would have little effect.

Goldberg believes United would have a good case if they did decide to take their case to world football's governing body.

But he has forecast that, even if the Spanish giants were found guilty of breaking the rules, any punishment would be minimal.
Goldberg, of Mel Goldberg and Co, said: "If Real Madrid are reported to FIFA, they will probably get a rap on the knuckles.

"I don't know whether they would be expelled from, for example, the European Cup or whether they would be deducted points in the league.

"What FIFA would probably say is you cannot keep a player against his will if he is not happy and wants to go elsewhere.

"They would give some minor castigation and the deal would go through."

He might be an allegedly self proclaimed top sports lawyer, he may also be just an ABU who's trying to pre-empt who is going to happen if we do complain! A minimal punishment might or might not be the result, there is no point for him to publicize his opinion at this point, except that it's meant to discourage United in the battle with Real, and Ronaldo! Disgusting!

U figure it out.

Until I see the hear the words coming from Ronaldo's mouth that he leaves I'll support him.
I see nothing wrong with him trying to get the best contract possible as he is the best player in the world

how long can Fergie and United tolerate this kind of nonsense from ronaldo and madrid????

And how do you know that any of that is true?

The only thing that is 100% true is that he said he wants to stay. The rest of it has come from 'sources' or a Brazilian website ffs.

Fergie will have spoken to Ronaldo over the phone, don't worry about that.

Well, lets wait and see...

them quotes i posted aren't THAT old. January 22nd 08.

Spot on.

Sums up this whole saga at the moment.

Probably turn out to be Calderon in a Ronald Regan mask.

He makes a good point though, do you really think FIFA will punish Madrid? And if they do will it really hurt them?

At the very most they'll get a slap on the wrist or some lousy fine which is mere lunch money for all the cnuts involved in that club.

Our fans have supported him through thick and thin, we think the world of him, and whether he is leaving or not we deserve to have an answer by now. If he says he is off to Madrid now, thats fine, but the longer it takes for him to answer the more of a cnut i think of him. Just give us and the club an answer for christ sake.

As long as it takes really. It's a massive decision and he has the small matter of getting his head straight for the Euros. He has obviously been advised to keep his cards close to his chest and focus on the tournament at hand. Even if he has made his mind up, one way or another, it won't help his negotiations with either club to put his cards on the table just yet

All of which is a massive pain in the arse for us fans but I don't think any of us would have played it any differently in the same boat. Huge sums of money involved and he is also making a very difficult decision, emotionally. I have absolutely no doubt he has an extremely strong connection with United and everyone at the club. It also sounds as though a move to Real is his boyhood dream. He's caught between a rock and a hard place, not the sort of thing you can decide in a hurry.

Nice post and sums up how I feel.

I would love for him to remain at OT for the next however many years, but do not think this will happen.

If playing for Real is his boyhood dream, then I do not begrudge him wanting to move there. He has given 100% for our club and for that I am thankful. I am also thankful for having the opportunity to see him play in the red of Manchester United. He has had a huge impact on this club and has been instrumental in our successes since he joined.

He has just given us a season to remember - easily the best season I have ever seen a player have. This culminated in a magnificant double for the club.

I feel it is a shame that people are now being so quick to criticise him. In one sense, the fact that he is taking so long to make a personal announcement reinforces Pogue's suggestion that it is obviously a huge decision for him ot make, and not one that he will make lightly.

The other thing to remember is that he has never said that he is unhappy at United. But he has had a dream to play for Madrid (perfectly understandable for someone of his age and nationality). He has worked extremely hard to put himself in a position to realise his Real dream.

So I truly hope he stays as I feel he is in the right environment and the right team. But if he decides that he wants a fresh challenge having won almost everything there was to win last season, then I will respect that decision. I will continue to think he is the best player in the world, and the best player I have ever seen play and will wish him all the best in his career (unless he plays against us obviously!).

If all he doing is trying to negotiate a better contract why should he act any differently?

If he came out and says he wants to stay at United for life where does that leave him when it comes to contract negotiations? In a much weaker position IMO

Everything else you have said has happened is just pure media specualtion nothing more so far.

Calm down and don't believe everything you read and see

Thats pretty much spot on.

But I'm surprised he hasn't made an official statement in the last 24 hours or so. Have Man Utd made a statement regarding this interview with Terra where he allegedly states he wants to join Madrid?

I can understand why some people are thinking he's leaving. I don't understand the ones calling him a cnut or the ones who say they want him to leave even if he comes out and says he wants to stay, thats just madness.

Why the hell does everyone here think that Fergie won't have been in contact with Ronaldo during these past few weeks?

Yeah i thought that as well, seems strange. Maybe it is the we "will let a player rot in the reserves" quotes that has made people think that, who knows.

Let's focus on Anderson and other new comers who may take the club forward. Leave Ronaldo alone. Knowing his arrogance I am 80% certain he won't leave because this is the chance for him to get yet another medal in Japan in December which may not be much and is almost always a given. But it is something you only get a shot at after winning Champions League. He may never win one if he leaves us.

He will definitely leave in 2 years because after Fergie is gone, him staying doesn't make sense for him unless Carlos takes over and persuades him. But whatever he is doing is wrong. He should speak freely and finish the matter. Either speak or don't. Don't play games in the media. If he wants more money, he should speak, but not threaten indirectly.

Excellent post, everyone is still getting far too carried away IMO

Horrible post (along with your last couple) but that really takes the biscuit. If it takes being "arrogant" for a player to be determined to win trophies I hope that if/when Ronaldo does leave we replace him with someone who is just as "arrogant"
