All-Ireland Championships '09

I'm sure Br. Goff was there lol

The two headmasters in my time were Bro Oshea and Bro Begley.Maybe Seamus Woods and Roddy Tierney were maybe still there in your time.Had the misfortune to be taught as well by PA mclaughlin who later turned out to be chairman of the gay rights assoc, proper you know what

Song for a Raggy boy is worse, I was ashamed to call myself a catholic after watching that one

There are evil cnuts, in every walk of life CL. Shouldn't affect your faith. I refuse to refer to those abusers as Catholics.

I dont think i've seen that show man, I know the one yer on about tho but i think i've avoided it due to its depressing undertones. Some films are just too much to stomach!

There's alot of fecked up shows out there with Irish themes - we havent covered ourselves in too much glory...

I agree PJ, but why have other sects of Religion not been found guilty of abuse, are they gettin away with it or does it happen at all, whereas the Catholic Church has been caught with their pants down on many occasions - worldwide ;)

I know you've strong Catholic faith, so i'm not questioning that at all btw - just curious that many abuse stories have been Catholic related...

Got some BAD/GOOD news for all you potato-lickers:

Tadhg Kennelly's retired from AFL, due to persistent shoulder-injuries and is ready to return to Ireland and lead Kerry (I think it was?) to the All-Ireland Championships in '10. He was due to play out his contract (which ended at the end of this next season) and move back after, but his injuries have made him decide otherwise.

He's been an absolutely fantastic player for the Swans for many years; playing as a fantastically skilful rebounding defender. He would've hit the target 99 out of 100 times - be it a 50m laser pass as he burns out of the defensive 50, or a dinky 15m kick to open up the play.

He's going to be missed! And not least in my Dream Team side!

Here's the article if anyone's interested:

Yeah it was indeed Sparks. Tyrone played really well in the 1st half & then in the 2nd Dublin showed alot of drive & skill to make it into a great game. Some fantastic points scored & credit to both teams & the GAA for making the occasion a very special one. You cant help but be proud of the family organisation that is the GAA - they are a credit to the Country & all the Irish worldwide!

Pretty good win CL & PJ, Mayo are a tough nut to crack especially at home, so any victory is very well respected!

The fireworks was class, i guess its one of those situations where you have to be there. Me & the missus got excellent front row seats on the Lower Cusack - perfect they were, and the atmosphere was really good!

Perfect evening all-round & it was a very fair & well mannered game!

Alright Cesc you Kangaroo buggering mongrel ya :D

Yeah heard about this. My Kerry missus is quite pleased & I gather the rest of her County is well pleased too. They reckon Tadhg's gonna bring Sam back to the Kingdom now

Tadhg's been immense for the Swans, and if i recall accurately enough - he actually held a reigning All-Ireland winners medal & AFL Ring at the same time - first player ever to have done that!

I remember his Irish Jig when he collected his winners Ring, that was pretty funny!

Some Game on Saturday...

Fair play to Dublin on putting up a great show.... Unlucky to lose that match... Played the better football, were not scared to be creative in attack and did not adopt the dour boring stuff that the opposition displayed.....

Also well done to Croke Park on putting on a great 125 celebration... Credit to everyone connected to the Gaa accross the republic

Excellent Galway

Galway opened their National League campaign in determined fashion by carving out a five-point win over Westmeath in Mullingar.

Michael Meehan grabbed a late goal to secure the Division 1 points on offer for Galway in front of a 3,000-strong crowd.

The visitors edged the opening quarter-hour, moving 0-04 to 0-03 ahead, with Galway's Nicky Joyce and Westmeath ace Dessie Dolan trading early points.

Westmeath lacked a cutting edge in attack and their defence was given a let-off in the 19th minute when Meehan thumped a penalty, awarded for a foul on Joyce, off the crossbar and over for a point.

Points from Cormac Bane, Padraic Joyce and Meehan (free) helped Galway to a 0-07 to 0-05 half-time lead, while Dolan and Thomas McDaniel kept Westmeath in touch.

Galway should have been further ahead as Meehan was guilty of missing another goal-scoring chance late in the half.

On the restart, Meehan quickly took his personal tally to 0-04 from a free, but Westmeath roared back with a string of impressive scores from Dolan, McDaniel and Denis Glennon.

The home side hit four points without reply to move 0-09 to 0-08 ahead and Galway suddenly looked in trouble - they lost midfielder Barry Cullinane to a red card for a 53rd-minute incident involving Dolan.

In all, Westmeath had one yellow card to Galway's two but having to play with 14 men seemed to suit Liam Sammon's side.

A well-executed goal from Jonathan Ryan got them back on track at 1-08 to 0-09 ahead.

Westmeath rallied as best they could, but when Galway created enough space for Meehan in the 70th minute, the Caltra ace slotted home the clinching goal from close range.

Ah Baz come on

I have to say this league would not be the same without the Ulster teams involved. Respect also has to be given to the amount of Tyrone people who attended Saturdays game in Dublin. The highest attendance for a sporting event this weekend.. No bias here whatsoever.

You wish you were from Tyrone. Best thing to come from Westmeath was Joe Dolan

Fair play... Was a good game...

Aye thats true but Baz and I "have been down that road before but thats over now" . He secretly loves Tyrone and all the success that they've had over the years. Baz you have to admit I'm right about Joe Dolan.

We have many people in westmeath who have indeed went on to international greatness...

More recently, yes - Joe Dolan, Michael O'Leary, Donna & Joe

I apologise - sorry

Keeping Stevie O'Neill fit will be key to us trying to hold onto Sam, even if we do keep him fit, there are alot of quality teams around the Country now & the standard has been raised, so many teams can beat each other!

Speaking of which, Westmeath are a team on the rise. They narrowly lost to us last year & play like an Ulster team with a physical presence, so although they lost yest - i would worry too much as Galway have regrouped over the last couple of years & we're now seeing a good blend of experience & youth. They are gonna be hard to beat!

Also a menion must go to the 3,000 strong crowd at Mullingar yest - thats great numbers!

I like this new format for the League. There's alot of top-quality teams there & its very exciting to see all these good teams play each other so early in tne year!

Best of luck to all the Counties

I know all about Westmeath... If we had kept our 2 players on the pitch in Omagh and found ourselves a good foward we would have beaten youse...

Comedy at it's best. That was the duo that went to the Eurovision song contest. One looked Like Bernard McHugh the other like that Bernie one from the Commitments. The saying "Bulldog Chewing a wasp" comes to mind. Was that the year that If Father Ted actor Dermot Morgan been still alive, him and Dougal would've had a better chance representing Ireland with My Lovely Horse.

Havin those two lads sent off most definitely aided our plight, the second one from memory was in retaliation to the first sending off - silly boy!

Dessie Dolan's a fine player

Lets hope you give Dublin a good run for their money in the Leinsters!

Bah, can't believe I missed this post!

I tell you what, Kennelly is going to be fantastic to watch these next few seasons. You can really tell he's a man on a mission, and with his fitness base + years of physical conditioning he'll be in ripping shape (aside from his dicky shoulders). No doubt he'll be able to bring back some new training regime's/techniques and just general knowledge gained from his years in the AFL system.

Personally I absolutely LOVED watching him play, Sydney pretty much built their Premiership gameplan around him (and a few others). They'd lock-down every single side's midfield, force ball-ups and contests where they absolutely excelled, then they'd look to find Kennelly in a bit of space and let him have a run and deliver with his fantastic skills.

I wonder if he's going to be given the Captaincy as soon as he's back into the fold. No doubt he'll get some sort of leadership position.

(also wonder if he'd be willing to send word back on some of the youngsters  )

To be fair, in the first part of that, the Kerry man pushed him from behind, then had his cronies bundle him away when Ricey turned on him.

I wasn't referring to spitting Baz, only the first part. I'm not defending Tyrone (god forbid) I'm just pointing out Kerry's faults too. Watch it again, Ricey turns his back, the Kerry man pushes him (sly cnut) and O'Connor is running towards the scene before Ricey even turns around.
