Derry suffer Kielt blow

James Kielt is expected to miss Derry's Ulster SFC semi-final against Tyrone on June 21 after suffering a suspected broken jaw in a club game yesterday.

The 20-year-old, who made a big impact in the Oak Leafers' quarter-final win over Monaghan and has been attracting the attention of Aussie Rules scouts, sustained the injury while playing for Kilrea against Ballinderry.

Reports have suggested that the dentistry student's jaw is broken, although Derry officials have so far only been able to confirm that the player was injured in the club game.

Derry manager Damian Cassidy is already planning for the Casement Park tie without long-term injury victim Niall McCusker, while Enda Muldoon is doubtful with the ankle injury he sustained prior to the Monaghan game.

This wont cheer you up - sorry mate, wasnt sure if you knew or not!

Dooher suffers injury setback

Brian Dooher is back on the treatment table after suffering a recurrence of his groin injury in a weekend club game.

The Tyrone captain was playing for Clann na nGael against Pomeroy in a Division 2 league encounter when he pulled up and had to be replaced, making him a major doubt for the Red Hands' Ulster SFC semi-final against Derry on June 21.

"He pulled out of the game because he felt a bit sore," Tyrone manager Mickey Harte explained.

"It is not the news you want to hear, but we'll just have to wait and see."

Dooher came off the bench to play a major role in Tyrone's quarter-final victory over Armagh last Sunday week, but this latest injury setback means he is facing a race against time to be fit for the Derry showdown, which has been fixed for Casement Park.

In the same game, Stephen O'Neill - who made a successful return to the county colours against Armagh - scored 2-3 for Clann na nGael as they drew with Pomeroy.

How the game go in your opinion man?

I didnt see it as I was down in Killarney keeping tabs!

Story Lad!

Wasnt a great game by any stretch. Some absolute school boy stuff at times from the Dublin forwards. Some strange selections position wise aswell. They had nearly 25 wides!!!!! THe RTE panel lashed them out of it, that fecker Brolly hates us.

Load of bollox considering they were on about Meath being a team trying to find themselves at this level but the fact Dublin had few debuts wasnt mentioned at all. Still think theres alot more to come from this side, not an all ireland yet. Maybe next year ;)

Yeah I heard it wasnt a great game, but feck it - you got past a potentially tricky tie & Gilroy blooded a few debutants as you said, so there's positives to be gained!

Gilroy had to shake things up tho, the same players every year have been parading themselves as potential winners - much like the Scousers, and to be honest it annoys people. What Gilroy is doing is keeping quiet, doing the work slowly & limiting expectations of the Dublin faithful!

The RTE panel have a bittuva an axe to grind with Dublin - especially Brolly. From their perspective they're pretty sick of the hype merchants surrounding Dublin every year, so they do seem to love the demise of Dublin in the Championship alright. In fairness man, thats a pretty popular feeling around the rest of the Country. You only win All-Irelands on the field - not off it, a few of the Fair-Weather Supporters from Dublin (every County has them unfortunately) should really catch themselves on & get realistic. Most Dubs I know are though, and have much respect for the contenders, so I'm not tarring proper football fans with the same brush. As I said - every County has the bandwagon jumpers - not least me own County!

Keeping the feet on the ground without the feckin hype machine engineered by the Dublin media cartel will be an advantage to ya's this year, as the pressure has most definitely had a negative effect over the previous years. The Dubs are still on a learning curve & Gilroys methods will be hard to administer in so little time, but you never know. A "Work in Progress" sign should be hung out in Parnell Park & should be adhered to, letting the players & the backroom team gel as a unit slowly but surely!

Kildare are making steady progress this past year or so, since Geezer took over. If they get past Wexford, who have Matty Forde out injured through back surgery, then I fancy them to be your biggest challengers to the Delaney Cup & if they get past Wexford - which i'm pretty confident they will - I reckon they'll win Leinster. They have a settled team now & they all know their jobs & each others jobs, so they can intertwine quite easily.

Geezer has instilled a bitta steel into them. They've always played lovely flowing football but lacked a physical presence & sometimes were guilty of avoiding physical encounters man-for-man. Not anymore though, Geezer has injected some of that Northern aggression & has worked on their defence as a unit instead of staying man-for-man marking!

Jesus i'm sounding like a Kildare Fan Boi here  Sorry about that!

Anyway, best of luck against Westmeath or Wicklow. It'll be a tough one against Westmeath if they get past Wicklow, they're a physical side & they dont like the Dubs much up around Mullingar / Athlone, but i'm sure you're used that type of local competitiveness at this stage. Its a healthy rivalry though & adds to the importance of the game!

Davoren's season is over

Mark Davoren's worst fears have been realised with confirmation that the young Dublin full forward has torn cruciate ligaments in his left knee.

The Kilmacud Crokes clubman is facing up to nine months on the sidelines after an MRI scan undertaken in Cappagh Hospital yesterday confirmed that he has suffered cruciate ligament damage. Davoren was stetchered off after falling awkwardly during the second half of last Sunday's Leinster SFC quarter-final against Meath at Croke Park, but he had expressed the hope afterwards that he may be back in time for Dublin's next outing against either Westmeath or Wicklow on June 28.

"I was worried enough initially," said Davoren after the match. "There was a shooting pain but, once I got back into the dressing-room, it didn't feel as bad."

But the knee flared up again on Sunday night, with Davoren having the scan yesterday morning and by last night, the player was informed that his season was over.

Making his championship debut after starring in Kilmacud Crokes' march to the All-Ireland club title earlier this year, Davoren had looked lively and had scored two points from play before disaster struck.

Sorry to hear that news Tron, its a shame as he's a good young player with bags of potential & limited amounts of fear. Unlucky to say the least!

Kennelly aka Ronaldo

Kennelly refuses to rule out AFL return

Kerry star Tadhg Kennelly has refused to rule out the possibility of him making a shock return to Aussie Rules.

The Listowel Emmets clubman walked out on the final year of his Sydney Swans contract in January to pursue his dream of winning an All-Ireland medal with the Kingdom. But Kennelly has hinted that he could return to the AFL if he manages to emulate the feats of his father, the late Tim, and his brother Noel, with Kerry later this year.

The 27-year-old, who made an impressive championship debut against Cork last Sunday and is now employed as a GAA coaching officer in the Kingdom, still keeps in touch with Swans coach Paul Roos and he admitted: "I don't really know what is going to happen.

"I am here now. I am doing my thing here and I don't want to think about that other stuff.

"In a way, it is the same as like I was in Oz. There I was focused on playing with the Swans and in the back on my head I thought I would go home at some stage.

"Now I am the same. I am focused on my goal of playing with Kerry, do everything I can to do that successfully, but in the back of my mind there is an opportunity to go back and play (in Sydney) for a couple of years."

Faw Kennell - this will please the Chairman of the Tadgh Kennelly fan club - Cesc's Mullet, aka The Kennelly Fan Boi :D

If he's only gonna stick around for an All-Ireland - he could be here for a while if Sundays performance is anything to go by. The hype surrounding him is unwarranted if you ask me. He was decent Under-21 player but has been playing Aussie Rules for 8 years, so the jury should still be out & less of the player reputation nonsense, he's an Aussie Rules player playing Gaelic football!

Terrible news about the deaths of the McNicholl chidren from PJs parish of the Loup, about 20 mins from myself.PJ was a lifelong friend who is the same age and had been in the same class since primary of the young lady who was killed. It beggars belief what that family is going through and my thoughts are with them RIP

Gee hate to be a Donegal man this evening. The Antrim wont care but I thought it was a poor match. The look on the face of McHugh was priceless. One detestable little git

Man i was saying exactly the same thing yesterday, with also chucking a few fingers in the direction of the telly, watching that dickhead curl up inside himself with sadness +++

Who would of thought the Saffrons beating Donegal in Ballybofey - it just doesnt happen. If you take into account that Donegal had 18 wides - many of which were easy to score - Brian Roper being supremely guilty of many aswell, then Donegal would of won that game pretty handedly in all fairness, but you cant take anything away from Antrim - they had about 5/6 wides all game & showed tremendous determination & togetherness to win the game!

As an proud Ulster man, I support all Ulster teams but some are complete underdogs. I'm delighted for those young lads from a success starved County - a County (if memory serves) that hadnt won a Championship game since 2002 & had not beaten Donegal since 1952. It wasnt the best of games but for sheer excitement in the "what might be stakes" - i thought it was a fantastic spectacle!

Wel done Antrim & the best of luck against Cavan

Ballinderry threaten Derry boycott

Derry's preparations for next Sunday's Ulster SFC semi-final against Tyrone have been plunged into crisis amid reports that Ballinderry are threatening to withdraw their players in the event of James Conway not been reinstated to the panel.

The midfielder was suspended from Damian Cassidy's squad last week after an incident involving county colleague James Kielt in a recent club game between Ballinderry and Kilrea, in which Kielt sustained a broken jaw.

But it's understood that Ballinderry are now demanding talks over Conway's axing from the county squad, and will withdraw their other panel members if they don't get the answers they are looking for.

The Shamrocks currently have three players on the panel - defenders Kevin McGuckin and Niall McCusker, who is vice-captain, and midfielder-cum-attacker Enda Muldoon.

http://www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=113182

Not the best preparations for the biggest game in Ulster so far!

I'm not sure of the ins & outs of Kielt having his jaw broken, but there's no smoke without fire & reports flew out pretty quickly that Conway deliberately smacked Kielt - effectively ruining his Championship, so the County board have taken steps to punish Conway on the basis of reports they received from officials & players.

Ballinderry are taking a very hardline here & this could turn nasty unless cool heads are applied. Personally, if Conway did the deed out of spite then he would be banned anyway for club games, and that ban applies to County games also!

Cork v Kerry has been a great game.

I don't follow GAA too much, since when do TV3 have the rights to it?

TV3 got the rights last year man & to be honest i dont mind hearing a different opinion on games from the one's we hear on RTE, and quite possibly there's more coverage of the GAA now than there's been in previous years, so i'm all for that - after spending the weekend watching our great games on three channels

God its great being Irish :)

A cracking game!.....Cork look the biz!....... Have to say Tyrone & Cork, at the moment are the teams to beat!

Yeah Cork look the business alright man, it'll be hard to beat those boys as they look a very hungry team!

I thought Kerry were lacking in many departments - not less their hunger for the game. Of course they're missing Donaghy & they'll be a tough opposition in the qualifiers, so maybe they'll spring into life after a few more games under their belt!

Natasha and me were in same primary school class, she was in about half of my secondary school classes, and we were even doing the same course at queens. 16 years now I've seen her day in day out, same first day at primary school, first communion, confirmation, first day at big school, formal, leavers mass, exam results, and first day at uni. Thought we would graduate together too. Yet the bizarre thing is while I've known her for as long as I can remember, I can't say I knew her per se. We weren't close friends, but were friendly. The family live about 200 yards up the road from me, and da worked with mickey for years. Still can't believe it.

Here lads, another thing. I'm not certain on this, but I've heard that Conway's actions were in direct relation to some very low comments made regarding Niall's family. I can't attribute the comments directly to kielt, nor can I vouch for there being truth in that, but I doubt Ballinderry would lie about that just to avoid having a player suspended for a while.

Great to have an ear to the ground with this regard.

I'm gathering PJ, that you're referring to Niall McCusker's family & the passing of his brother Conor who got beaten to death in Cookstown, Co Tyrone by some prick?

Do you really think some of the Kilrea lads would have said something about the McCuskers, after-all Conor played Senior football for Derry & played football all his life?

Would your fellow Countymen stoop so low is the question?

I really don't know, merely passing on what I heard. Either it's true, and kilrea have a lot to answer for, or it's not, and Ballinderry have even more to answer for.

Either way - its bad craic all-round because someone's lying here. Conway deserves his ban for the punch, so he should take his medicine just like young Kielt is taking his - only he's taking his through a straw!

Our mutual friend was telling me you had known Natasha and her family all your life PJ,it must have been a desperate time for all concerned and really when a situation like this arrives on your doorstep nothing else matters.I just hope their family can find comfort from somewhere and the strength to try and rebuild their lives, god knows it wont be easy.

Red Hand everybody in Tyrone must be rubbing your hands in glee,a depleted infighting no chance of a team in Derry for the semi and the winners of Cavan/Antrim inthe final, may as well give you the trophy now.Ah well always next year

I pray to god they can go on with life. They have 3 daughters left, 2 of which are still in early teens. Worst thing is I think Darren had called Mickey for a lift, but he couldn't make it. Poor man will torture himself over that.

I can understand how he feels and I hope he accepts that he has nothing to do with what happened.God works in some strange and horrendous ways

No rational line of thought could place the blame on him, but I don't think he will find it easy to think rationally.

Far from it man, we'd most certainly love to beat ya's with your best team so there's no excuses, but thats not to be.... but i feel all the excuses will come pouring out if we do now!

Personally i couldnt give a feck. A win is a win. Its up to Derry Gaa to have their act together & have blooded many players througout the Dr McKenna & the National League runs like we have. We are ready!

This Tyrone team is the best out of all the previous 3 All-Ireland winning teams, and i have every confidence in whoever we play throughout this Championship, we will be supremely focussed & without fear!

Ahh bollox man, this story gets even more sadder. The poor man will indeed torture himself for the rest of his days if thats what happened :(

Hope he finds inner peace if thats the case, because you cant legislate for every possibility in life, you just pray & hope that tragedy passes you by as much as possible!

Unfortunately this would seem to be true and it saddens me to hear what people will say in anger at gaelic football matches.Im disgusted

Heard much worse myself & not just from players but from pricks in the stands. Its a sad element of tribalism in Gaelic football. Tyrone is exactly the same mate & people need to feckin wise the feck up

Not long now to the day of reckoning - Sunday 21st June - Tyrone vs Derry at Casement Park, Belfast

Would say we have no chance and that's after a hour long conversation with one of our starting 15,after all the disruption it would appear moral and confidence are low. They also feel that the ref will be out to hammer them after the Monaghan match, cant understand why McAneany is not the ref.I have decided to go RHD but on this occasion I shall remain anonymous ,I will be too embarrased by our undoubted defeat

Yeah Pat's a great Ref, knows the game inside out & has the respect of the players & backroom staff

So you're goin then - nice one, shame you want to remain anonymous, I guess you're just not comfortable with the balding transvestite look yet, but that'll pass - keep the chin up sweetheart ;)

I wouldnt be too critical of your hopes for Sunday CL, local derbies can go anyway - if you pardon the cliche. I certainly wont be taking anything for granted!

Anyway man, best of luck to your goodself & of course PJ, and regardless of who wins - hopefully its well earned & with little trouble & no nonsense!

I was delighted to see Kerry beaten last week. I'd still expect them to win the All-Ireland though.

Whats the craic NC. Was down at the first game between Kerry & Cork, and i thought Kerry were woeful. Cork played them off the park in most positions & should have won easily like they did in the replay!

Kerry are well off the pace & they'll need a shit load of games to get up to the standard of finalists nevermind winning it. You never write them off though, but all this jazz about Kennelly is over the top. He was anonymous in both games against Cork & in the replay we actually thought he was subbed at half-time but he wasnt.

He's vastly overhyped. He's only played 2 senior games for Kerry & already looks out of place. The Kerry faithful are saying that themselves now. He's an Aussie Rules player playing Gaelic & it shows. I dont think his hearts in the game anymore & he'll be off to the Swans soon enough if you ask me - he's a better Aussie Rules player than he is Gaelic footballer thats for sure, and Aussie Rules is a poorer game anyway - sorry Cesc & Melbourne Red but Gaelics a man's game - none of this mark nonsense :p

We'll see how Tyrone get on against Derry on Sunday, and if they can build on the performance against Armagh - then we're the team to beat. We're looking pretty good & we've a fully fit squad now, so if any of ya's want what we have - come & try to take because we aint rolling over for anyone!

The Tyrone machine is gearing up to give someone a whooping - hopefully its Derry on Sunday :D

Did you see the team?Would probably make more sense to take the dog out for a walk than waste time and money going to Casement but will go out of Loyalty.Suppose you saw where Derry County board have come down heavy on Ballinderry regarding the Kielt incident, apparently alot of Ballinderry people none too happy that McGuckian is lining out tomorrow, just what we need at this stage. You will have no trouble recognising me tomorrow I wll be the one crying my eyes out at the end of the match after our undoubted hammering, anyhow have a good day and the best of luck in the Ulster final

The general consensus down here is that he was one of our best players over the two games and their right. He was our best player in the first game and was our most productive when at half forward in the second. If you say his heart isn't in it I'd love to know what you'd say about 90% of the rest of the team! I usually agree with ya RHD but I dunno wat games you were watching, no one's more critical of the players down here than the Kerry public but Kennelly's one of probably only 3 players to have come outta the Cork games with any credit and deservedly so.

Comprehensive win for the Red Hands. Derry lacked that cutting edge that they normally have up front. Credit to the Tyrone back line who kept them very quiet through out. The only bad news for Tyrone was the injuries to both McMahon and O' Neill.
