All-Ireland Championships '09

Tell you what if we are lucky enough to make Rome and you make the trip I will buy you a drink over there ,would love it if we make it.Not too worried about the national league final to be honest, not even going to it.I have decided to nip over to the Portsmouth match instead

Thats very kind of you me old mucker, a pint in the sun with ya would be sweet - maybe PJ could tear his ass away from his calculator too :D

Really hope we get to the final, especially after yesterdays disappointment. Would you not reckon it dodgy over there man, the feckin Ultra's will have a field-day with us lot?

You're gettin to a fair amount of games recently - nice one. I really need to get my finger out & get over to OT - growing tired of my arm-chair supporterness!

'Gooch' doubtful for league final

Kerry star Colm Cooper has emerged as an injury doubt for next Sunday's NFL final against Derry after being injured in a weekend club game.

'Gooch' tweaked his hamstring in Dr Croke's victory over Killarney rivals Spa on Saturday, and faces a race against time to be fit for the Croke Park showdown.

Kingdom boss Jack O'Connor is also sweating on the fitness of Paul Galvin who has a groin strain, while Marc O Se (medial ligaments), Seamus Scanlon (ankle) and Declan O'Sullivan (hamstring) are definitely ruled out.

Also on the doubtful list are Padraig Reidy, Aidan O'Shea, Tommy Walsh, Micheal Quirke and Tommy Griffin.

Ahhh thats terrible but maybe there could be a miracle - please God :(

Kerry have much quality tho, however Gooch not playin is a major boost for ya's, either way it would of been a close game anyway regardless of Gooch being fit!

I wouldnt take anything away from ya's if you's win - you'll be doin well to beat Kerry so fair play if you do

Aint that bothered to be honest I am actually a bit fed up going to national finals which at the end of the season count for nothing.

Of course winning Sam is what its all about, but a League Title is excellent considering the quality of the teams in the Division - silverware is silverware at the end of the day mate, but i know what your saying!

My daughter just came in from school to say that Niall McCuskers brother has died, his sister is in her class, god help them RIP

Another sister of his was in my irish A level class (only 4 of us in it, very close), and he's my uncle's wife's nephew. Sad news alright.

Must be. My aunt and uncle died within a pretty short time frame last year, so Niall's dad has lost a sister, brother in law and now a son in no time at all.

Sorry to hear that mate!

There's no need for one family to go through so much pain in such a short space of time, but unfortunately it happens & trying to make sense of it is beyond us!

I'm not trying to better that, but a few years ago a friend's cousin's new wife's parents were killed in a car accident during Xmas wk. On the way to the wake, the parents of my mates cousin were also killed in an car accident.

Both sets of parents killed in the same week in the same way - that freaked everyone out to put it mildly - that is the devil playing tricks & is scary as feck!

Murder inquiry after Tyrone death

A murder inquiry has been launched following the death of a 31-year-old man from injuries he received in an assault in Cookstown, Co Tyrone.

Connor McCusker, brother of Derry footballer Niall McCusker, sustained serious head injuries when he was assaulted in the centre of Cookstown at the weekend.

The 31-year-old from Coagh underwent emergency surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast but died yesterday.

The PSNI said the James Street area where Mr McCusker was confronted was busy at the time of the attack and appealed for anybody with information to come forward.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested.

Holy feck lads, thats my neck of the woods. I didnt know what happened to Connor so this comes as a great shock. Hope they fecking nail the son of a bitch that did that!

Some bastards just dont when to let a fight go, they seem to think battering someone is hard - well lets see how hard they are in prison

Cookstown on Friday/Saturday night's are like alot of big towns in the North - well dodgy & meat heads are hellbent on beating folk up either in a pub, club or in the street!

R.I.P Connor & may justice prevail!

It not safe going to these towns at night, how nobody has not been killed in Magherafelt is beyond me.Just recently Portglenone which is near me has become a weekend battleground,a well known Derry footballer got a right hiding not so long ago.Too many of these nightspots are guilty of relinquishing their responsibilities the minute they throw their customers on to the street.Once the authorities begin to close down the nightspots where there is constant bother outside as well as in, the better

Yeah Magherafelt is a dodgy one aswell. Some of these twats only go out looking to beat the shit outta someone to prove they're hard, makes me sick!

Derry's like any other County in the North, there's a mad tribal aspect between towns & villages within the Counties & alot of folk will go on the piss in the next big town over which could be in the next County.

There's alot of jealousy aswell. These fecko's see a County footballer & they want to batter him, because they reckon they're acting all cocky & think they're great, when all they're doin is going out for a pint with their mates!

We're from a land of brain-dead tossers i'm afraid :rolleyes::mad:

I think its a pity that the League final is in Croke Park. Not that I have anything against it, but we will yet again be reduced to maybe a half empty (or full) stadium, with little atmosphere.

Kerry and Cork fans will not travel for this. It would have made better sense to have the Kerry - Derry game in the likes of Galway - In a stadium that would have been packed and with a town that would have been buzzing

But Baz we want a run out there to practise for a certain Sunday in September

Derry have had enough opportunities at lining out there and I wish them well come September. But am fed up with all this hype about Croke park.

Nothing worst then seeing 40,000 people sitting all over the place in Croker when there would be more atmosphere in the likes of Galway or Roscommon

I take your point, there'll be huge gaps all over the stadium, a more compact stadium such as Pearse in Galway would be adequate alright & would make for a better atmoshere!

Its a long way to come if your from Kerry, Cork & Doire.... and lets face it - they dont travel in numbers too often for these games anyway for various reasons!

If you're from Kerry it'll cost you €70 on the train (4hrs+ duration) & probably the same or more from Cork, add in match ticket & food for a family, maybe a few beers - thats a hefty day out by anyone's standards, and there's been massive job losses down that part of the Country aswell!

Travelling from Doire is a car or bus affair, but with all due respect to our resident Doire lads: Crerand Legend & PJ - the Doire faithful dont travel in large numbers, and even those that do are from the South areas of the County - more North you go the less interest they have in Gaelic football, which makes it rediculous that Celtic Park, Derry City is still being used for County games. Ballinderry, Loup, Swatragh, Lavey, Dungiven, Ballymaguigan, Magherafelt & the like are the hardcore areas!

Goin to Crokers is a special occasion though, not everyone gets to experience a major matchday, due to ticket allocations etc.. so a chance to see a match there is fantastic for many!

Its great that the GAA is trying to get as many young groups & footballers from around the Country to come down with the intention of tryin to inspire them & seeing the great work thats been done from all grassroots levels of the Country. I think the GAA realise that numbers wont be as large as they'd like but its a National Final & its a great experience for any footballer to play at Crokers whom might not get too many chances!

Also, the powers that be at Croke Park need all the revenue they can muster!

Just found the Bebo page of the cnut who attacked connor. (don't worry, geebs, I won't give it out)

A) He has a bad eye in his head
and
B) some stupid cnuts have left over 20 comments along the lines of "keep the head up", "thinking of you", etc

!

In fairness RHD anytime Tyrone wil lplay there - its near capacity. I will be there again this year in the first round of the championship with about 22,000 there for my own county. Will get no excitement out of it at all. Imagine 22k in Cavan or Casement. It would be electric.

I'll be faced with empty seats, my kids wondering the whole Canal end with no one near. 60% of the ticket booths closed, an echo from the announcer and one in 5 of the corporates open.

Its a joke and a disgrace to Leinster Football

I understand your point of view alright, the kids need a better atmos than that, aswell as the adults of course & Breifne Park is a lovely stadium, was just looking at their website & there's a great overhead view:http://www.cavan.gaa.ie/ feckin lovely it is & would be more ideal - Casement speaks for itself!

Tyrone's a massive County, and we've been starved up until the last 6-7 years of playing at Crokers, so when the opportunity arises i guess everyone wants a grand day out in mecca. I'd say Westmeath have played in Crokers shitloads by comparison - lucky so & so's

Was just looki at the fixtures for Leinster, you's boys are down to play the winner of Longford/Wicklow match - thats not bad man. Its pencilled in for Mullingar/Tullamore on that, has there been a change of venue?

I also looked at the next fixture when you get past one of those: Dublin or Meath - feck man thats rough, but you never know - keep the faith

Dont think your Minors will make the final man :D

No mocking now RHD,them words could come back to haunt you,LOL.On a serious note I see there is still no arrangements for Connor and at this stage it could be on Sunday.I fully understand that there is more important things in this world than a football match but it could leave D Cassidy with a problem but one he would fully undrestand

Couldnt help it CL - you'd think less of me if i didnt chuck that one in :D

Thats a serious note alright, there are more important things in life of course, but it would be a fitting tribute to poor Connor, that Doire were given a good chance of winning the game. Maybe putting the funeral off until Monday with possibly havin in attendance the League trophy aswell as all the players!

Either way, its a sad situation & the Doire lads will be affected greatly by his loss & the impending funeral :(

RIP Connor

Hopefully it'll be sunday, seems to be the only day I'll get a chance to attend. That fella was charged. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/foyle_and_west/8014002.stm He's named in the article, so I may as well say here, Christopher Murphy, from cookstown. and I'll pm that link to anybody who asks for it, now that his name is public knowledge.

21 years old - a life down the drain & for what? To show how hard he is by beatin someone to death

Some of the comments on his page are really pissing me off though. A girl I'm good friends with is in bits, as are her family, because of him, and people are saying things like "U'll be home as soon as u know it.....where u belong. Were All Thinking of U!!" and "wer all thinkin of u murf keep ** chin up xxx"

We can all understand mate, and i feel for everyone concerned with Connors death :(

I also understand that the lads life is now ruined by his own brutal actions, aswell as his families & that his people will rally around to help him, thats what friends & families do man. You cant blame them for loggin onto his site to offer support, they love him man & wish that he hadnt of done what he did, but its too late unfortunately!

Dont wreck your head with this man, stay away from that site - it will only serve to irk you in this painful time!

Good luck to all the lads involved in the National League finals at Croke Park this Sunday:

Thanks RHD!........ Ya can't bate d'auld mushrooms, panfried with Champion butter ( made in Monaghan too!)........ Anyway, good luck to the Ulster quartet this weekend !
I think we can un-cork the leesiders on Sun.!

ps; I put a score on us ( Monaghan) today to win Ulster @ 7/1. also, a score at 11/2 on Sun's game to... score 1st, lead H/T, & win.
all via Boylesports

I felt it better to back Mons for Ulster now, as those odds will shorten slightly if they beat Cork, but are unlikely to go out if Cork win!
