Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

Strange thing about all these rumours concening Modric (or a CM) and Sanchez is that we are unlikely to be in for both.

Wonder which of the two rumours is false.....
I think its more likely that the Sanchez rumours are false at the moment. We've known for a while that CM is where we need strengthening, and at times it was glaringly obvious last season. As much as some would love us to sign Sanchez, and as good as he may be/end up being, I dont think Sir Alex would allow us to go into the new season having spent a large portion of the remaining budget on another winger in a summer where Scholes has retired, Hargreaves has been released and Gibson looks likely to be sold as well.

AKA I'm spending most of my time in the Modric thread.

The Mirror have reported in the last 72 hours that city, then us, then Barca were favourites to capture him, in fact said we had won the race, and now they're reporting it as if it's an even six-way fight. I politely suggest they haven't a fecking clue what they're talking about.

Has he been seen wearing a United shirt yet whilst filming for the front cover of the new FIFA game yet

And who's Sanchez's Pjanic

I saw Sanchez in the WC and I was under the impression that this guy was a future star. His movements and close control of the ball was top class. But playing for a top team is more then creating spectacular skills.

I have no doubts that Sanchez is something extra, probably one of the hottest talents around at the moment. But is he worth £30m+?

Yep, last season after a slow start probably due to the world cup, he gradually gained form and was probably one of Serie A's best players ( And productive )... Started off RW then played in the hole, he really can play any position in the attack, reminded of how Messi moved from the wings to the central position.

Is he so much better then Young?
Tough questions, I like both players but on form, Sanchez has more pace and penetration and he has a bit more flair, I'd say Young might be better at set pieces but if we're also talking about potential, Sanchez has a lot more and he's only 22 while Young is 25.

Is he the type of player we need ATM?
Not quite, but if we were in it for A.Young vs Sanchez ( Only 1 type of signing should be enough ) Sanchez has the potential to be a key player for us while I can see Young more of a squad player.

If we buy him I will be one of his biggest supporters, I like players like him. But if look at it from a point of view as what our squad need I think Modric is a better option.

But time will tell. Either way It's exciting time's.

I understand the excitement, each day its like a muppets dream... But in reality we might get a new Bebe' or Obertan so lets keep the faith up and hopefully we might get both players...

We're definitely in for Sanchez. No doubt about that. We've been following him strongly for years now.

So, what, 40 million for him and he's ours?

Probably cheaper, £35million should do it. He supposedly has a certain affinity for the club too, so I'm pretty sure he won't think twice about agreeing to the move should we strike.

It's highly tempting, but you have to consider whether we do actually need him, and if so can we still afford another midfielder which we'll still be needing.

If this deal doesn't go through and he ends up at Barca i expect mass suicide on Redcafe as seen previously, i.e. Benzema and Torres thread.

I've barely seen any of him but 30-40 million is seemingly being quoted as the potential transfer value for Modric and Sanchez. I don't know, just seems like far too much. For Modric for sure because while I think he's really good I don't think he's 30 plus million good. Sanchez I've seen too little of but 30 plus million for a wide player, given that we already have two really really good ones?

Only reason I can see us spending such a huge sum on him would be him having the ability to be one of the very best. If we do get him then I hope he is that good!

Welcome to the current transfer market.

I'm assuming discussions with all the respective clubs has now come to an end.

So when do we find out where he will go? Is there a time/date for this decision?

This guy is arguably the hottest property in world football right now so the figures being talked about are hardly surprising.

Chelsea are clearly looking to rebuild.

They'll be in for various players this summer and will move a fair few out I bet.

The figures seem very resonable if he is good as people are saying.

Judging by who is in for him, I would assume he is!

That's what I'm saying. We should sign players for those sums only if they are THAT good. I personally don't know if he is but the interest I guess speaks volumes. I think Modric is very very good but not that good.

I'd be staggered if he ended up at Man City.

It's between us, Barcelona and outsiders Chelsea imo. We really don't want him ending up at Chelsea though!

So while the news is coming in slowly, does anyone think that if we got him, Ferguson would ask Owen To give up the Number 7 shirt?

How come?

I refuse to buy a red United 7 replica with Owen on my back!

Commercially it would make a lot of sense and he'd fit right in with the traditions of the shirt aswell. Owen should never have got that shirt. I know some people couldn't care less about a shirt number but I think it's those sorts of traditions and romances that make supporting a football team what it is.

If he was given the #7, I'd buy a shirt with his name and number on the back and that is saying something because the last football shirt I owned was the black "sharp viewcam" one! That was a sexy kit.

I don't think SAF really gives a monkeys about shirt numbers. The club, however, do so they would probably instigate such a change.

Great shirt!

I agree with your point.

Is that why when Ronaldo joined, he requested the number 28 shirt and ferguson said "no, no, yours is the number 7" and went on to explain what it meant.

This thread is going haywire!

Because of a piece of shitey journalism, suddenly Chelsea are in for Sanchez.

I doubt it!

He will go to United, Barca or as an outsider, City.

Personally, this protracted affair smacks of the lad making it clear where he wants to go and the rest are being used to drive up the preferred club's price to somewhere close to Udinese's valuation.

He knows that if he goes to Barca he will spend quite a bit more time bench warming than he would at United. There is talk of him being an United fan and if he wants to come to OT, he will, as I am sure SAF will pay the right price in the end.

However, if he wants to join the best team in the world, play considerably less than he is used to (initially at least), but fulfill his ambitions, then fair play to the lad.

In my opinion, he is either United or Barca bound and others clubs haven't a chance. He is holding out for what he wants, my head says Barca but my heart hopes it is United.

What about Inter? He has also said he wouldn't mind staying in Italy.

I just have a horrible feeling now that it will be Barca. This summer is turning me into a proper caf transfer muppet :( I have visions of him holding the Barca shirt at camp nou on his presentation and next season us realising what we have missed out on :(

I think every time me miss out on players we really want, it's not ideal. It's not about muppetry, it's about the plans to build your team (and big ones at that, considering the money on offer) falling through. Then we need to start all over again with someone else further down the list, or really hoping that someone from the youth team makes a huge step up.
