Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

it's a myth that we were one dimensional with him, purely because of the 09 CL final where we made ourselves our dimensional for him.

I think that is the 'mistake' SAF means when he says he knows why we were so comprehensively outplayed by Barcelona in the 2009 CL final. It was a mistake to go into that game with a strategy built purely around Ronaldo being the difference .... and it failed miserably. SAF will never make the same mistake again. Not blaming Ronaldo either.

He's a quality player, truly talented on the ball.

But which of our front four will suffer for him?

Hernandez is excellent, Rooney is one of the finest footballers on the planet, Nani is world class and Valencia defies logic after his comeback this season and subsequent superb form.

We have Giggs and Park constantly knocking on the doors to play in creative roles in midfield. Also, with Park and Valencia on in Europe we become an extremely tight and creative unit.

I want Sanchez, but only if we can play 12 players next year.

I agree.. We don't need him.. But it looks like he has been playing as a 2nd striker and has been terrific this season.. So thus making him versatile. However unless we get rid of 2 strikers i.e Owen & Berbatov. I also cannot see us signing him because he too (Like Valencia and Nani) prefers playing on the right wing..

2007/08 season...one dimensional?

There is nothing funny in what he said.. It makes perfect sense..

Anyone with any sense and wanting to build a career will avoid City like the plague.

It's not about building a career anymore ..it's about getting a shit load of money each week.

Could you honestly blame any player coming from Africa or South America going there to earn 100k+ a week..even for a year? I wouldn't

It's bollocks to be honest and smacks of a spoilt fan

They'll also be winning things at City. I know its not a pleasant thought but we know its coming because with the F.A cup and a champions league place, the wages they offer will now start to convince some of the best players in the world to play for them

Big difference between winning the F.A Cup and the Champions League. It's not as if they stormed the cup. Teams win the CL, rather than individuals.

However, that's off-topic.

Even though I have my doubts, we should still sign Sanchez because it's a nice problem to have.

They might still win feck all, Real made a £300m+ investment after Perez came and they have won nothing of note so far. Chelsea worked out because they managed to get a capable manager, with someone like Mancini money won't buy much success.

Yup, we have to accept the fact that they will soon be fighting for all the honours. I pray they won't but I can see city winning the league within the next 5 years.

They'll just keep spending until they do win something significant.

Mancini might not be the man but they'll ship him out and replace him with someone else who could do well.

Top players will want to join City now they're in the CL, simple as that. I would think a lot of players care more about future prospects than History and City's financial muscle will mean they can compete for the best players.

They'll be a top side for a long time once they're established in the CL.

As regards Real Madrid, you're spot on - but only because they're up against "the best team ever". They'd have a couple of League titles if they were playing in the PL.

Everybody keeps on thinking that they'll keep on spending but that's wrong, the FFP rules are made for something like this actually. City doesn't want to risk their participation in European Tournaments, and that's why they won't be spending huge amounts everytime they fail.

The big sticking point for us will be wages I reckon. He's only 22 yet city are probably offering him close to £200,000 pw. Something I don't see us or any other team willing to do.

It will be a shame if he goes to MCFC. Especially considering we had the option to sign him for £12m last summer according to some sources.

Agreed, I mean in 08/09 we were. kind of built around him as his Ego took over, but before then he was more than versatile and industrious.

Obviosuly nothing is known for sure but the articles I read all indicated that the personal terms offered by all 4 clubs were acceptable to him, the sticking point is the fee Udinese want.

Well why would Udinese allow all four clubs to talk to him if they didn't have a fee agreed I wonder. Also who is the forth club?

They have set the fee at 30 million euros and have allowed his agent to get the personal terms done before they start taking bids, apparently City and Barca will pay the fee, but we seem to want negotiate according to reports. Real are the 4th club but they pulled out apparently as they didn't want to get near the valuation.

I was going to ask about this scenario a few weeks ago then decided against it since it was just too early. It sounds like something a club might do if it knew the player heavily favored a lower-bidding buyer and didn't want to be stuck with the headache in accepting various bids only to find out too late that the player was never even going to negotiate with some of the clubs. Be interesting if the player now flat out tells his club that it's MUFC or bust. Not that he has any real power to.

Don't know where your source for this comes from - but welcome any real news on this.

If we want to negotiate it is because we know he wants to come to us. Otherwise our hands are tied here. If the negotiation is ONLY about the fee, then we will lose.

However, if (as I suspect as he has said so in years gone by - he IS a Manchester United fan and wants to play for Manchester United) then that increases our bargaining power as he can simply refuse to sign for anyone else and run down his contract.

That said - I think we'd pay UKP20-25m for him - but no more than that!

The guy just strikes me as a United (Fergie) type player.

I think it's been happening more often recently, there were reports the other week that Tevez had agreed terms with Inter before they sat down with City to discuss a fee.

No sources, my post was just putting together the various pieces that have been reported over the last few weeks.

The stories of him being a United fan have been going strong for 3 years now and it's well known that we have a long standing interest in him, Fergie has even been quoted regarding him, but I don't know how far we will go or how far he can refuse Udinese's wishes.

So to the people who want him (I've not seen enough of him) what do you do who do you sell or drop got to be one of Nani, Valencia, Rooney and Hernandez.

if he is capable of playing in a few positions why are people so bothered about who needs to be dropped? just makes it easier to rotate? I'm sure the people saying you have to drop a certain player will be the first ones in the match day threads next season saying things like we only playing wigan we should be resting Valencia and giving Obertan game time.

We will play 50-60 matches next season if can play either wing or up front that gives us plenty of games where Nani, Valencia, Hernandez, Rooney & yes even Sanchez could be rotated/rested while still getting a awful lot of game time in the PL, CL, FA & League cup and who knows possibly the World Club Championship.

Pozzo flew into Manchester to see city and discuss their offer yesterday. (Gazetto del Sport)

Except he plays centrally now. He would be a cracking player to have who could play in all the attacking positions.

How would we line up with Sanchez ?

No differently than we do now. I personally see him playing in Giggs central role or up front supporting the striker, but he can also do a job on the wings. The way we rotate the squad he could be a great signing. The lad can pass a ball brilliantly as well. Think of it like this. If we got Ronaldo back, were would you play him now? I'd give him the free roving attacking role, and I'd do the same for Sanchez. I've also taken a screen shot of that wiki just in case.
