Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

Despite Torres current form I think Chelsea were taking the view that it was down to the messy situations at Anfield over the last two seasons, so they paid the target price for a player who was not long ago regarded as one of the top 5 strikers in world football, who had proven he could do it in the Prem.

Sanchez will go for between £25 and £30M IMO.

Agreed.

Chelsea to have £30m bid for Chile star accepted - Sportingo
An offer of £30m will convince Udinese to sell Alexis Sanchez to Chelsea or Manchester United, according to talkSPORT.

Chelsea reportedly bid that amount in the January transfer window, but the Serie A club were unwilling to negotiate midseason and disrupt their campaign.

Sanchez is capable of playing a trequartista role creating behind the strikers, as well as on the flanks, and would be of great interest to both teams given the lack of a true playmaker at either club.

Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to have earmarked Javier Pastore for that role in his side this season, which would then leave the path clear for Carlo Ancelotti and Roman Abramovich to swoop in.

Shame if we don't go for him. The lad is incredible.

The last month he's really hit form. Hard to believe he's only 22.

If Chelsea are seriously interested, they will get him, we have no chance competing with them and we wouldn't offer more than £20m for him anyway. We were rumoured to be interested more than once, God knows why didn't make a bid last Summer when after World Cup it was clear the lad had the talent, or the Summer when Ronaldo left (we watched him before and it's not like he got his pace and skills overnight).

Now is too late. I would say Chelsea would be much better with him because he would bring in natural width they don't have at the moment. If they could get Pastore or Hamsik at the same time, which they will definitely try to do I think, they will be nearly as good as their 2005-07 side.

If we want him we can compete and will pay whatever is deemed nescessary. Only though if we are interested in him.

Udinese appearances

Di Natale
220 games 108 goals
Sanchez
89 games 20 goals

Scoring once every other game over 220 games for a club like Udinese is bloody impressive.

And when have we ever entered a bidding war with Chelsea? Each time they become interested we simply give up (if we ever had any interest at all), it will be the same with Sanchez, Hamsik and a few more players in not too distant future.

We can hardly compete with big guns in the market, that's why we have mostly focused on players who weren't wanted by many in the last few years. It hasn't exactly worked badly though so I am hoping we can find someone this time too.

Berbatov and city. Admittedly that doesn't follow our current trend of value signings but I more than believ that if we really wantded a player we could compete. I just also imagine we would just hear the deal being announced before we even got into a bidding war.

Udine have been playing him as a second striker for much of the season. He's more than capable.

There was no case of Berbatov going to City until sheikhs got hold of them, which was about a day before the end of a transfer window. By that time we already had the deal nearly closed and it was only awaiting a few signatures. Had they been circling around for a longer period, things might have been different.

No. He only wanted to play for us.
That is why we were forced to pay so much to get him.

Yes, he wanted to play for us but we might have not given him a chance to do that. Essien would have chosen us ahead of Chelsea too and Robben as well but we pulled out as soon as it was clear they were interested. I have a suspicion that if Berbatov situation happened now, City would be quick with a £35m bid and we wouldn't go with thatl

No - he loves United. It would be up to him. If Chelsea bid £35m and we were only willing to pay £27M if he loved United that much he would just refuse to go to Chelsea!

Tx

Udinese will take the biggest fee they can get. It's their business.

But it is still up to the player where he wants to play.

Only if the selling club has accepted offers from more than one club. If we are outbid, that will be it. There aren't many players around who would actually turn down the kind of money City would offer, for example. It's very hard to make big signings now, in a market where City take great joy in outbidding us for players.

Surely the player can say "I don't want to play for club X"?

His club can refuse to accept a bid from club Y if it doesn't meet their valuation but they can't force a player to join a club, just because they've received an offer they like the look of.

Not saying it necessarily applies in this scenario, because I have no idea how strongly yer man feels about where he goes next. But still...

I'd imagine that they would offer him the chance to talk to agree personal terms, and he would just say 'okay I want 9 million a week' and be a dick until they withdrew their bid at which point United get accepted.

That's what I'd do anyway.

Yes, that could happen. In practice, it happens very rarely. The agent and the selling club normally want the biggest fee + wages possible and can put some pressure on the player if need be.

The difference between Berbatov and them is we wanted Berbatov real bad. He also wanted us and no one else. So we were always going to win any bidding war.

United didn't pull out of the Robben deal. The PLC underbid from what PSV valued him at and what the club had originally agreed, then he accepted Chelsea's offer shortly thereafter. I don't recall United even getting another chance - Robben's father was pissed apparently. At least I seem to recall something about his father and PSV none to happy with the offer from United. I recall Chelsea offering him like a million more per season too.

This seems to say a bit different The Story Of Robben, United and Chelsea and Giggs basically said it was the money.

Of course he can refuse to join club X, but his club isn't obliged to sell him to club Y if they aren't going to meet the valuation, so eventually he will join the club X anyway because they will offer him the only possible way out from his current club.
