Alexis Sanchez | Staying at Arsenal after City deal falls apart

Can't beat a last minute transfer to a rival to unleash the drama llamas.

I really think City will indeed walk the league if they get him despite what many of you think

Why though? City will not struggle to scores goals, with or without Sanchez. So unless, by way of magic, Sanchez helps City to tighten up at the back, then they'll still be liable to dropping points.

Why can't people grasp that maybe Sanchez simply doesn't want to join us and has privately made that clear to us.
Exactly. Somehow they all think that we are 'allowing' City to sign him from Arsenal.

I'm not saying he'll win them the league. But from the first three games, it is evident that City are struggling to score goals despite all their attacking talent.

Let him go to City i'm genuinely not worried about City at all its a team full of individuals i fully expect Liverpool to walk all over them in the next game and player for player they are a lot weaker. A great team is better then all the best individuals it took years for Real to get this idea, ever since they stopped the stupid transfer approach look at them now.

I agree. Given a choice to work with Pep or Mou, I can see Sanchez choosing Pep. The only way he will come here is if we offer him ridiculous amount of money.

They are struggling to score goals right now. He could rectify that if Pep doesn't totally feck it up. The state of their defense is really exaggerated too. Their problem this season based on what I've seen is actually scoring

Like I've said in a previous post, City's goalscoring problems won't persist, irrespective of Sanchez signing. Because if they do, then something is off. If Pep can't get his current attacking players to score goals, then he's doing something wrong.

I'm also not saying City's defence is terrible, it's just weaker than some of their title rivals. And the nature of Pep's style will always, always make them more susceptible at the back. But this is not the thread to discuss that.

Probably in large part due to their hipster manager playing the best playmaker in the league as a DM. :wenger:

That's because of the way they play, not because of the players they have.

That won't continue. If it does, something is fundamentally wrong.

That will continue, because epl teams dont get rolled over and a lot of them defend so well and deep and force the team to go wider. This is the exact reason i feel city will be inconsistent when paired up against consistant winning sides in epl which might be us, but certainly is chelsea.

Looking at the first three games, I struggle to see what Sanchez will solve. For all their attacking talent, they have struggled to create clear cut opportunities because teams sit so deep against them. I also think Sanchez will be taking Aguero's place in the XI. It's an upgrade but not by much.

I really hope we're not considering trading Raheem for Alexis. Of course Alexis is the better player but he will have zero resale value in 3 or so years. Raheem despite his limitation would probably go for far more than the £50m we paid for him. I believe it would be strengthening us short term but weakening us long term as we'll have to dig deep again to replace him.

I also want the club to show some faith in Sterling after the unfair shit he went through for signing for us and the unwarranted abuse he took.

In spite of his ability I also think Sanchez is a bit of a whinger, he's a great player and a born winner but I'd imagine he'll sulk. I'd take Sanchez for £40m or so as he's got a year left on his contract (but Arsenal won't sell for that) but the only swap deal that would make any sense would be Alexis for Kun and I'd prefer to keep Kun around as he's a club legend and will score more.

Could we present a more compelling case by including swap deals if City don't?

No, We got no one to sell.

The only way he would be tempted is we push for it very hard and tempt him by luring him with our future plans with griezmann or so .

Wonder if Arsenal fans would take the deal involving Mata + cash for Sanchez.

I wouldn't be averse to using Blind or Smalling in a swap deal. Blind is a handy player but I'd rather we eventually get an actual left back. Smalling is great on his day, but those days aren't many. Also, I think Blind would be an improvement on most of their midfield options (if not all). Smalling would fit in nicely there.

Still we need them both.

How would City even line up?

Front three of Sanchez, Jesus and Bernardo?

Would happily get rid of Smalling for Alexis.

We'd still have Bailly, Jones, Lindelof, Rojo, Blind and Tuanzebe to play CB. Even Carrick can cover there if needs be.

This would be the worse deal ever. Mata may not be on Sanchez level but he's an important squad player to have and he loves playing for United. The only player I would consider swapping with money for Sanchez is Smalling. Wenger is going to get rid of Mustafi and will need a CB and I think Smalling could be helpful for him but if City are offering Sterling, I guess Wenger would just take that.

Nah, We brough in a defender because of injury and depth issues , while rojo is also injured till dec. Why should be sacrifize that depth. Smalling makes mistakes but he is a way better defender to let go for someone like arsenal. He is our best defender in the air , belive it or not and this league needs that.

If city get him, I'll be very worried. He doesn't need to adapt, he'll hit the ground running. They will get another centre back as well before the window closes.

With Guardiola, we never ask such questions. Even the City twitter account gave up trying to decipher his formations.

Seriously though, I think he will play both on the left and as a striker. Depending on his performances, one of Sane or Jesus could get lesser game-time. Aguero's situation ofc, is a foregone conclusion.

Any team Sanchez joins in the top 4 will win the league. He's that good. He's miles better than Griezmann or Bale. Sanchez is a proven goalscorer in the PL with the tenacity of Carlos Tevez.

I cannot believe Woodward is sitting out on this one but would rather chase ghost players like Bale and Perisic for months. Sanchez is the real deal. Sir Alex Ferguson would be making several phone calls to Arsenal FC by now if he's still our manager.
I remember Fergie was interested in Sanchez when he was at Udinese but he went Barcelona instead. If Sanchez is leaving it would madness to let him go to City or anywhere else without at least trying.

Yea Smalling is a good shout as well. Although, an injury or two in our central defense and we'd be panicking. I'd be more confident of letting Smalling go for Sanchez if Rojo was fit and running.

He can only play like 5 attacking midfielders and forwards at once. Two of Sanchez, Aguero, Jesus, deBruyne, Silva x 2, Sterling will have to sit on the bench and the only depth behind Fernandinho is either old ass Toure or perpetually injured Gundogan.

I dont get that when he first came to england he wanted to live in london, now all of sudden he would like to come to manchester. I hate the fact we settled for di maria than sanchez that summer.

I tend to agree with your general sentiment, but the "replacing Aguero" comment just adds to the argument that this'll enhance their title chances.

The Premiership is all about squad depth nowadays. Having Aguero as a replacement for Sanchez, if that's how he's used, will be a huge advantage. It's the same logic I apply to the value of re-signing Ibra.

At the time, it looked like the better deal. Di Maria was just after getting man of the match for Madrid in their champions league final. But ya, LVG fecked up. Sanchez would have been quality for us.

How many players have City signed this summer? I've lost track. Sanchez going to City would definitely make them favorites for the title.
