Alexis Sanchez | Staying at Arsenal after City deal falls apart

Could we intercept their bid? I'd love him here for a few years. Offer a defender to them in return... That might constitute daylight robbery depending on the player.

Perhaps he doesn't value Bundesliga titles as much as a Premier League title? Perhaps he thinks City are more likely to challenge for the Champions League? And, with regards to money I think he could earn as much at Arsenal as anywhere else and have an easy life. Perhaps his ambition is a little greater than stagnating in north London?

Anything is possible but to believe that City is closer to the CL than Bayern is rather unrealistic. Alexis also played better under Wenger than he ever did under Pep so I dont really see evidence he wants to play for Pep so intensely. Of course no one really knows whats really going on despite twitter know it alls

Bluemoon is enough to lift any City fans spirits. Apparently Kolarov is off to Inter and Sanchez will be at the campus this week to sign, will wear #11. If Carlsberg did transfer weeks...

I don't get why he wants to move to City. He was shit for Guardiola's Barcelona, and I think he'll struggle at City too.

Yeah he was very underwhelming under Pep.

Pretty sure Pep criticized him for coming off a game with an injury(was shouting "where are your balls!" if I recall).

Why would Sanchez struggle out of interest? Surely good players want to play with good players, and he'd have plenty in an attacking sense.

If City are really going to sign him then I have no idea why we aren't making a play ourselves.

I'm really confused as to whether he's staying or leaving. I feel as if it's difficult to tell from club or player. I can see Arsenal wanting to keep him but them trying to sign Lemar also makes me think that they want him as a replacement.

If he goes to City then where will he play? On the left? Behind the striker? Upfront? What happens to the other attackers in their team? Is Aguero leaving or staying and if so is he starting? The transfer doesn't make sense unless Pep just wants an 11 full of attackers?

Surely Alexis knows that he isn't guaranteed a starting place at City is he? Who's gonna be happy sitting on the bench ? Why aren't the likes of Chelsea or Utd in for him?

He will struggle for the same reasons he struggled at Barca. People forget a mere Pedro benched him often at Barca. I can't see how he'd fare better under the same manager with superior competition than Pedro.

Sanchez is easily better than B. Silva, Sterling, Jesus, Sane and KdB.

Pretty sure we'd both be all over that if possible, but I don't think a transfer between Arsenal and MUFC is possible with Arsene and Mou in charge.

Bit surprised by Chelsea though, thought Alexis fancied London and would like to stay.

If he moves to city they win the league next season, simple as that, upgrade on every one of their attacking players current aguero included

Dude, he was easily better than Pedro too who is inferior to all you just mentioned . Yet It didn't stop Pep picking him ahead of Alexis. I seriously can't see Alexis playing for Pep again for that reason. In the EPL I only see Conte as having a chance of getting him

Sanchez and James are different players who fit in different positions. If we were to go for one of them, in my opinion Sanchez would be a better fit since he can play as winger and can also be a striker when needed. Who would you guys rather have?

I wonder if anyone would say James.

Sanchez. I don't just mean me, I mean everyone.

I thought they were already guaranteed league winners after they signed Silva. That will be 3 league titles in a row for them after they were guaranteed victory in the previous two summers also.

Very sad for Arsenal if he leaves. How many "Legends" have they had in recent years that they can look back to and remember with pride and joy? Not many.

Him going to city will have a similar effect as RVP coming to us. Funny it's Arsenal bending over again.

Yes that may be true but what a lot of people don't realise is that the reason Sanchez excelled so much in the Arsenal set up is because he was given the freedom to do what he wanted and take however long with the ball he wanted. There were lots of times he lost possession but then there's lots of times he scored some solo goals. Pep doesn't strike me as a manager who will give free reign to Sanchez, allowing him to drift all over the pitch and lose possession consistently in hopes of pulling something out of the hat.

I can see Pep getting frustrated with Sanchez and benching him halfway through the season.

Yeah but are you telling me the top 3 clubs who have the money to make this transfer are gonna sit by idly as one of them has free reign to the best player in the league and for what I expect to be a pittance in todays market?

Utd just signed Lukaku for like 75m and you're telling me you wont go higher or at least close to that for a player 10x better? Money talks. You guys should know that. If you bidded £90m+ I think some heads on the board would turn.

Chelsea is the most baffling as it'd be easier to convince him to stay in London and just move teams. Heck they won the pl last season and look a more complete team.

As it stands Utd and Chelsea are letting City take Sanchez for a pittance (£50m?) and possibly letting the league slip them by. Though we don't know whats going on behind the scenes.

They haven't signed an attacking player with this work rate before, it's usually just luxury players that don't do kick off the ball. He'll defend from the front, a lot of city's defensive vulnerability comes from those luxury players just leaving it up to the defenders. Let's just hope he stays at Arsenal unless he transfers to us.

James is a good player no doubt but I fail to see him fit a formation that would work for Mourinho. Do you have any ideas on how would he play if we did buy him? There's only one position he's best fit at and that's behind the striker and we have quite a few options for that. I don't see him being an important requirement at this stage. Our wings and CDMs need more strengthening. Don't you think Sanchez would be a better fit since he plays well anywhere in attack? I just want to know what in your opinion gives James the edge over Sanchez?

We need to get a bid in. He could change the history of our club. We fecking need this kind of signing to be up there with Barca/Real. We are only fooling ourselves if we think Lukaku will be enough for this season. WOODWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depending on the opposition he'd either be used as a wide playmaker or directly behind Lukaku. James would suit either of Mourinho's favoured formations because he likes having a ten, or a wide playmaker on the opposite flank to a direct winger and James is comfortable in either role.

He is a better 10 and better wide playmaker than all we have on our books already. People for some reason forget he made his name as a wideman at Porto that earned him his first big money move to Monaco. IMO a player like him should be a priority for us to complete our attack. Merely signing Lukaku is not nearly enough.

Our wings and CDMs need more strengthening. Don't you think Sanchez would be a better fit since he plays well anywhere in attack?
Alexis is a better fit for our team in the short term because he is EPL proven, is the direct type of winger Mourinho craves and is already a world class performer.

Long term I prefer James because he is just as naturally talented IMO, is a world class talent, is only 25 so still mouldable, and he would be the longer term investment.

I'm sure this is wishful thinking on my part, but with the way we are doing business recently, the lack of links with us are massively conspicuous by their absence

2011-2012 Alexis isn't the same as this Alexis. While Pedro has regressed a bit over the years Alexis has actually progressed and is now a much more mature player than he was at Barca. No way would Pep pick Pedro over Sanchez again if he had both at his disposal.

Exactly. Whoever gets him is in a much better position to do just that. That's why it would be pretty silly not to try and get him if he's available. If he wants to go to City, he'll want to go to United (even if we're 2nd choice, we can surely entice him in other ways?).

If United can get him, they should. He can play anywhere across the front, and is a real team player who puts in a shift.

I'd argue that de Bruyne is the better player, but other than that I agree.
Nah, De Bruyne is overrated on the Caf. At first I overrated him too because honestly his 14/15 season was absolutely brilliant and I expected him to improve in the PL, however he hasn't really lit it up since then, and his performances in the CL have been average other than the games against PSG. Let's say I expected more of De Bruyne.

Surely City can't be in for him. They've got plenty going forward, the investment is needed at the back and in midfield.

Aguero
Jesus
KdB
Raheem
Silva v1
Silva v2
Sane

How would they fit them all in?!

Would bloody love us to go for him and the 90m touted is a bargain.

I'm not sure Wenger would ever let a Mourinho get him though. It'll be a bit like Fergie refusing to let the dippers get Heinze.

Honestly, I hope he stays. Nobody outside the premier league is gonna get him, Bayern were the one option but they've been priced out. He wouldn't go to PSG, Barca/Madrid don't need him, Juve wouldn't pay what's needed. If City gets him, they win the league. You can't not, with that attacking power. On his day he's as good as anyone in the league, and City already have loads of fire power. No way you'd stop Sanchez, Aguero, Bernardo Silva and De Bruyne all starting, then David Silva, Sane, Sterling and Jesus as players rotating in.
If he stays at Arsenal then it's pretty even between all the top 6 teams, with the signings everyone has made so far.

City have near unlimited resources. If they want to buy him it would be irrelevant to their pursuit of defenders.
