Nothing like a good old fashioned caf meltdown to start the day...

Cesc Vs Barney for Alexis Sanchez. Funny if Sanchez ends up at Juventus and both of you left hugging each other. Well I am just saying.

Are you referring to me? If so, I don't think you've read this thread. Me and BarneyLFC aren't having a go at each other.

Arsenal seem confident Sanchez has turned down LFC but club is still talking to his representatives...Could be a couple of reasons for this...

1. Sanchez keeping his options open as long as possible to see if LFC make better offer?

2. Sanchez know his club would rather he move to LFC & thinks he can get compensation from Barca for doing so...

@_ChrisBascombe Sounds like last year's 'we're bigger than you' squabble again. Only one winner in that debate.

No doubt that Liverpool are a bigger club than Arsenal IMO.

Although I can still see Sanchez picking Arsenal. Would be funny for few moments if Man City comes in at the last moment and signs him, until it sets in that Man City have got an amazing attacker in addition to Silva and Aguero.

But not really that funny...

And Arsenal vs Liverpool "bigger club" debate is a tough one, although I'd concur that LFC win. But that is largely because, like United, they are the only other club in England with a true "golden period" and success-ridden history.

Yeah I know hence the until part after that.

City getting him would work out better than him going to Arsenal for you and us.

I wonder how much City can spend though? Probably not enough to pick up Sanchez at the figures touted, especially since they also need a CB. They picked up Fernando too if I'm not mistaken?

Edit: all with reference to FFP here, as they obviously have next to unlimited funds.

Probably. Could see Chelsea and City fighting for 1&2 and us, you and Arsenal fighting for the other two spots. Although City haven't really improved in the market yet and with the AFCON and the loss of Yaya Toure, I'm not sure how they'll replace him.

yeah. it's funny. i had this exact same conversation with someone else on twitter about short-sightedness. Personally, I'd be surprised if we don't get in the top 4 but then again, not really a guarantee. The top of the league is still fluid imo due to what I see as impending changes during the transfer window. But we shall see. Should be exciting
So what is the guarantee that Arsenal will qualify for the CL next season? The fact is we have as much a chance as Arsenal to miss out again. Arsenal have already missed out before and even last season finished 4th. So it not exactly like Arsenal are nailed on to finish in the top 4. Thats my point. If it was Chelsea or Man City, I wouldn't have said this. The competition doesn't only affect us, it applies the same to Arsenal and Liverpool also.

If you have to sign-out to see someone's post does that mean they have you muted? I was wondering what the hell was happening on page 57/58 with random responses.

Liverpool have had a bigger past and have a bigger fanbase probably, but in terms of recent past and recent future positions Arsenal seem to be a more safer bet than Liverpool. They have the stadium going now with debt paid off, have a better squad as it is than Liverpool and are based in london, have a good stable manager and are financially in a decent state.

Ah bullshit, if he just wants to play in the CL and doesn't care about anything else he should stay at Barcelona or he could have gone to Liverpool aswell. We're one year out of it, we'll get back in it next year now that we have a decent coach again and are seriously strenghtening.

I don't understand why any top player would chose Arsenal if he could go to United. Arsenal haven't won the league in like a decade and yea Wenger talks about signing top players, but as soon as he spends his €40m on Sanchez we won't hear Arsenal again for the rest of the summer unless it is to sign some french player out of the ligue 2 or something. Arsenal doesn't have a squad to win the title and they don't have a coach to do it either, and they don't have the intention to change anything about that either, Sanchez is just a candy to keep the fans happy and next year y'all be celebrating again because you narrowly managed to get your yearly 4th place again. He won't win shit at Arsenal, he'll participate in the CL and then he'll get knocked out of it as soon as you reach the knock out stages, because that was Arsenal do, they participate in the CL and than get knocked out of it.

We're fecking Manchester United, we have won more silverware in the last decade than Arsenal did in the last 50 years. We have been in the CL all the time and have actually proven to be capabel of reaching the finals and actually winning the damn thing. We have had one drop out season, being managed by an absolute clown and now suddenly Arsenal is more attractive than Manchester United. I hope he rots at Arsenal and doesn't win a damn thing anymore for the rest of his career, the damn basterd !

You post makes you look like a complete fool. Your grammar is almost as hilarious as your deluded views. Your bitter because a player may goes to Arsenal instead of United. "Arsenal participate then get knocked out of it"....only 1 team doesn't get knocked out of the Champions League every year.

Not that it's relevant but when has Arsenal missed out of the CL? Or did you mean Liverpool?

Surprised no one seems to be giving Juve a mention in the running for Sanchez. I think they have an outside chance... All depends on 'ifs' and 'buts' with a sale of Vidal or perhaps Pogba, but then they could easily compete with Arsenal on price. Plus it's been mentioned numerous times on the rumour mill that Italy would be his preferred destination, due to family reasons amongst others.

Should he not move to us I'm pretty sure in 3 months time everybody in here will see him as the diving cnut he is.

Even if some people won't count LvG as a top quality coach(due to obvious bias), they've to see that it's a big upgrade from David feckin Moyes.
Indeed. Glad we moved on from Moyes and got LVG. Feeling very excited about new season

Juve are rumoured to have offered the lowest wages out of the clubs interested and also reported to be reluctant to meet Barca's valuation.

It's not necessarily about the guarantee for next season. It's about what Arsenal offers right now. And right now they offer CL football which we dont have. Do we have as much a chance? I don't really know because I don't see how you can objectively evaluate it without introducing bias. All but 1 team which have finished in the top 4 this past season I think have finished outside the top 4 at least once in the past 5-6 years. Could be wrong on that but Arsenal have an excellent track record of at least qualifying for CL anyway.

Then you factor in other aspects like location which might actually matter to Sanchez as well

Tell me the last time Arsenal missed out on Champions Leaue football.

Tell me the last time they won it? 16 years + and nothing...all abit pointless apart from the money men angle.

I don't get the argument.

We want to sign top players to give us a bigger chance of winning the competition.

What you're saying is that given we've never won the competition, we shouldn't have top players joining us.

No Im basically saying I find it impossible to comprehend a player would choose Arsenal over United based on their qualification for next season. As unless you spend the reported 150m we will spend, its still highly likely you'll be there to make up the numbers and nothing else. Even with that spend for Arsenal all it would mean is another 10 midfield options.

Dude, if you want to win a competition like the Champions League, you need to sign top players. Maybe a player like Sanchez can help them move further in the competition this time. I just don't get the "Why should he sign for Arsenal" thing when the club wants to get back to the top. They have EVERY right like any other club with money to sign top players and eventually win silverware. Utd doesn't have the exclusivity on signing top players and winning trophies. Other managers and clubs want the same thing.

Life doesn't end after next season. It's possible that Arsenal have offered him assurances about playing position/role or other top players they're looking to sign.
Players are still people. They don't just look at graphs of trophies won and tournaments entered before choosing who to join.
And not everything is about Champions League football. It's being quite overdone now.

I doubt Sanchez sees Arsenal dropping out of the top four if he's joining them. As much as United fans may think Arsenal are dropping out, he obviously won't share that viewpoint if he joins them.

I can totally understand choosing Arsenal over Liverpool. There's no guarantee Liverpool can replicate their performance of last season. Still you'd have to be worried that with Arsenal you are joining a club that settles for 4th place and a CL quarter final every year without ever actually looking like going the whole way.

As things currently stand I think the English club most would choose to join is Chelsea (recent successes, always challenging to the end, top manager, London factor). United (biggest club, top class new manager, showing serious investment to get back) and City (recent successes, bound to challenge, good manager) would probably be next and then Arsenal (Consistent CL football, respected manager, 2nd biggest club in the last 20 years when players were growing up, London factor, but never really challenge to the end) and Pool (Historically huge club, strong last season with nice football, seem to be on the up, but appear to be losing star player + no guarantees yet that last season can be repeated) .

You're talking, like many, in complete ifs and buts and cliches.
