Alexis Sanchez has flown back to Spain to resolve his future with reports claiming that Manchester City are now ready to gazump rivals Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United with a £40m offer for the Barcelona attacker.
Sanchez has emerged as one of the most sought-after players in the summer transfer window after Barca chiefs made it clear they were willing to cash-in on the 25-year-old as he doesn’t feature in new boss Luis Enrique’s first team plans.
Understandably, a whole host of clubs have been linked with the Chilean international in recent weeks, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all understood to be keen on luring him to the Premier League.
Liverpool are believed to have asked for Sanchez to be part of any deal involving Luis Suarez heading to the Nou Camp, but conflicting reports suggest the player has turned down the opportunity to move to Anfield with Spanish source Mundo Deportivo suggesting the player would prefer a switch to the Emirates – although some believe the Merseysiders still haven’t given up hope.
It’s reported that the Gunners have so far offered £31m for the attacker and Arsene Wenger is confident of getting the deal over the line. However, all that could be about to change with the Daily Star claiming that Man City are ready to blow their rivals out the water with a mammoth £40m bid with boss Manuel Pellegrini seemingly keen on adding his compatriot to his expensively assembled squad at the Etihad.
Whether that turns out to be the case remains to be seen, but if true, the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are going to have to up their offers or risk missing out on Sanchez altogether.
It would be a huge blow for either club as Brendan Rodgers tries to find a replacement for Barca-bound Suarez while Wenger is on the look-out for attacking reinforcements to help support Olivier Giroud next season.
Sanchez has just enjoyed an excellent World Cup which came off the back of his best season at the Nou Camp following his move from Udinese in 2011, but his 21 goals and 15 assists haven’t done enough to persuade Barcelona to hang on to him and the attacker has now cut short his holiday to head back to Spain to resolve his future.
Former Chile president Sebastián Piñera uploaded a photo to his Instagram account late last night of him with Sanchez along with a message saying ”surprise encounter with Sanchez who is on his way back to Spain”. Spanish newspaper AS claim the player was en route back to Catalonia for talks with Barca officials where he’s set to reveal which club he wants to join.
I’m sure Arsenal and Liverpool fans will be waiting with bated breath to find out his decision, but there could yet be a final twist if Man City, or indeed Man Utd, make a late push for his signature.

BBC now reporting that Arsenal are in talks to sign him. This could happen.
I think Arsenal are nailed on for it.
Disappointed that either we haven't tried for him, or aren't able to convince him that we're the best fit though. Still, can understand why Arsenal might be attractive to him. Fair play to them.

Excellent for them if they can pull it off. Ramsey turning into one of the best midfielders in the league, FA Cup, Ozil and Sanchez in the space of 12 months? Great period for them.
I've not been too worried about Arsenal but Sanchez would be a great buy for them. United should definitely be willing to stump up the £40 million if we have a chance of getting him and if we don't get Di Maria.
That assumes all are fit and on form all the time, which they won't.
It will be either Arsenal or Liverpool so I'm just grateful it's not the anfield cnuts.
I think Sanchez would suit us better than Di Maria but I hope I'm wrong.

I can understand he wants CL football. I have no complaints with that, but one thing I will say is, whether he ends up in Liverpool or Arsenal, there are no guarantee's that by the end of the next season, any of them, including us will be playing CL

As if Arsenal stand a chance in the CL ... He just has to look at their record in the last 20 years. That's really not an excuse for us for not pursuing him especially for £30m.
I agree. Arsenal are miles away from winning it. I meant that by the end of the up coming season, Arsenal could easily miss out on qualifying for the CL, and then where would that leave Sanchez?

At Arsenal he might not win anything, but at least he will be the star of the team and probably tear the premier apart. He will definitely enjoy playing for them. Can't see Arsenal going backwards after signing him, if they do.
Anyway, my hopes are on LvG talking to him and convince him personally and explain him the project. (but he still have a while in Brasil...)

I really do hope we're in for him but the arsenal link is too strong for me. I really can't see him going anywhere else, you know if they get him they'll most probably finish top 4 at the expense of Liverpool, whereas if he signs for Liverpool with Suarez leaving I still don't think they will.
You are aware of the fact that they aren't limited to how many players they can sign, right? You are also aware of the fact that Sanchez does in fact score goals and that not only your striker can perform this role.
I think he'd be a great signing for any of the top teams in Europe.
Knowing Arsenal's injury problems they need all the quality they can get in attacking positions. He'd be perfect for us and hopefully he remembers our interest in him when he was still at Udinese.
Arsenals record in the champions league is absolutely dreadful, surely the CL is not Sanchez's main motivational factor in joining them. Maybe he finds London an attractive place to live. If Arsenal do end up getting him for a mere £25milion, then fair play to them.
How is it dreadful exactly, considering we have been beaten by the likes of Bayern and Barcelona in recent seasons - teams that are considered bigger and better. We haven't been bundled out by a team that's considered weaker than ours.
Anyway you do realise that by adding better players you have a better chance of competing?
As for your Giroud comment earlier - I agree somewhat, though the optimist in me recognizes that Giroud is great with his flick-ons and his link up play. He (and especially Ozil) needs someone to make runs as Cazorla, Podolski and Wilshere are too stagnant. A more mobile striker would be ideal though, or if Giroud was somehow able to become a whole lot quicker that would be great.

Well how about topping your groups for once? You know, so you can get easier seeds in the next round? You would have played Zenit if you topped your group this year, so you cant use that as an excuse.
Of course I understand this, Actually I think Arsenal will have the beast of a forward team next season if they Pull this transfer of.

Providing you get a world class striker, I think Arsenal would have the best attack in the Prem. You would obviously need to replace Giroud for that to happen.
I agree last season we shot ourselves in the foot, but we had the toughest group of all of them last season. Not really an excuse though as we had top spot sewn up at one point.
I edited the post above regarding Giroud. Not sure who we can bring in at this point though, especially if the Sanchez deal does go through.
I think Manduzkic would be a good upgrade on Giroud, other options Balotelli maybe? Perhaps you can convince City to sell you lot one of their forwards.
Sanchez would provide good amounts of pace and power to your forward line, he has also shown great ability in being able to stretch defences out to create more space for players such as Ozil and even Ramsey, who looks to be even better next season.
Good signing for Arsenal if they pull it off, had a superb World Cup, don't buy this "he wants CL football" though, Arsenal will do what they always do, come 2nd in the group and be out by March.

Why not? It's usually a key consideration.
What I meant was if we were in for him (which isn't likely) I don't think the "champions league football" would be a consideration considering Arsenals record in it over the years.
More down to money, living in London, position in the team etc.
I don't think United will lose out on many players just by having one season out of the CL.. 2 seasons out and it's a different story.
I agree that I don't think United's draw won't lose out on many players. However, the draw of the CL for a player choosing between the likes of Arsenal and Spurs is significant.
Arsenal may have champions league football, but is the vision and ambition there to win the league? I look at LVG appointment, and uniteds hunger to not only make sure they get a top 4, but look to win the PL and do more. Arsenal seems like a club making sure they are in a top 4, but there is something dynamic about the way united want to do things now that may look appealing long term.

Seeing as we're not even in the race, we should all hope he doesn't go to Juventus. Vidal should be priority number one for us, and if Sanchez goes there, odds are he might not be so willing to leave with his fellow countrymen joining him.
Also if they were to sign Sanchez, they probably wouldn't be that interested in Nani anymore and the price tag for Vidal could reach a level that we might not be willing to pay without that makeweight.

At the moment it seems that the fate of both players is very much entwined.
I don't believe Juventus can afford Alexis without the sale of Arturo though.
How? you have not won a league title in a decade, arsenal will be about the same again this season, and all arsenal are about is keeping in the top 4, with a bonus with the odd cup
