Quintuple is on.

Balague states negotiations have started between Liverpool and Barca.

Where's he said it? Can't see on his twitter.

I would find it hard to believe he would choose Livers over us... Assuming we are in for him of course.

I doubt we are. Seems to be between Liverpool and Arsenal mainly from the English clubs.

I don't think we are in for him. Our focus understandably appears to be on Vidal/Carvalho and getting the Vermaelen deal done. Those positions are the priority for us. Sanchez will be with either Arsenal or Liverpool next season (highest bidder).

Does anybody know Liverpool's transfer budget?

I wouldn't mind Liverpool signing him because I don't think they have more than £60m to spend so with Lallana, Lambert and Sanchez, that would be close to wrapping up their transfers so that squad would still be defensively weak and also quite thin, I doubt it could absorb too many injuries.

And if they sell Suarez then they lose a player of truly world class ability, Sanchez doesn't come close to him, Suarez is in the league of Messi, Ronaldo, Bale, Ribery, Robben etc.

If Brendan Rodgers is the next Jurgen Klopp or Diego Simeone in the sense he can build a great team where the whole is considerably greater than the sum of its parts, he will succeed no matter what.

.

I saw it on his Twitter...

1 sec...

Ah he's linked an article and then wrote "negotiations between clubs have started"

I don't think Sanchez would want to go to Liverpool. They've only just came back after years of being poor, and there best player by miles is off. They don't have the financial backing other sides have either.

It'd be sad to see such a talented player's career peter out at Liverpool. I'd be surprised if he opted to go there.

A downgrade on Suarez I guess. Still, don't want to see him signing for Liverpool.

D'oh. There's even a picture of Suarez on the article. Idiot...

Apparently he won't be included in any potential deal for Suarez either. There have been reports that he isn't too keen on joining Liverpool so no real surprise really.

They will still recover around £30m from the sale of Suarez if the deal includes Sanchez. Which sucks as they will still have a fair bit to update their awful defence

Gut feeling says this is spot on. LvG aiming to turn Lingaard, Zaha, etc. into happy revelations.

Truth be told Liverpool have not been a desirable club for more years than i can remember, and the chances of them attracting truly WC players is slim. But they do have a world class player in their squad! so it would make sense to try and grab a player or two from any club wanting to buy Suarez.

Money is fine, but as we have seen even average players can fetch £30 million in todays market, so i'd rather push for a Di Maria or Sanchez style player instead of having a huge pile of cash.

Sanchez can fit very nicely in Arsenal team. He and Walcott as 2 wide forwards will be deadly combo.

Can't see him moving to Arsenal. I think if he does move, and it's looking likely, it'll be us or Juve.

The Times are reporting the same story as the ones I posted above too. Definitely looks like they have been briefed by the club.

If Sanchez isn't up for a move to Liverpool, i wonder how much jeopardy it puts the Suarez deal in. Would any Liverpool fans take straight up cash when it doesn't look as if there are any world class replacements? Could have a Spurs/Bale scenario.

Sanchez won't even consider Liverpool, that's just daft. They struck gold with Suarez who was one out a load of players who took the Dutch league by storm and done well in the premier league.

Top players like Sanchez don't move to clubs like Liverpool. This isn't 1990.

If you were Liverpool you'd have to try and get a player as well as cash in return. And if rumours are correct there are a number options since Barcelona are looking to sell a few. Taking just the cash is much harder to reinvest and replace the quality they'll lose. It's not just the quality of Suarez too, but he played a pivotal role in linking a Sterling/Coutinho/Sturridge.

Abundantly clear that Arsenal is the preferred choice.

We have to get this over the line now or I'm banned for a week.

How on Earth is it abundantly clear? If anyone is at the moment, it looks like Juventus are, but they're stingy gits.

The players have to agree to move though and if you think for someone like Sanchez surely he's got to look at what Liverpools potential to make CL again and do well this season without Suarez. He's been brilliant for them. Take him out and they're not a top four team. Of course they'll get lots of money but you only have to look at Spurs who probably had a better squad pre selling Bale and see how you can end up burning through the money very quickly and it taking a while for players to settle individually and as a unit.

Short term you'd get CL with Liverpool, long term though with likely increased pressure from ourselves and Liverpool being much more under threat without Suarez from Everton/Spurs then you'd think it's a lot more doubtful. I can imagine top players would be quite cautious about going to a club when their best player is likely to go and their big name captain is getting closer to a more peripheral role.

It's been on twitter and is therefore abundantly clear. That's how things work now in the real world.

Doubtless Liverpool would want him - most sides would. My bet is bigger clubs will want him and probably offer more money.

Liverpool losing their best player doesn't bode well for me. Is a top player going to look at them and think they're as likely to be challenging next year without Suarez? I doubt it. Other teams are looking like spending and with CL football Liverpool could be stretched.

None at all I wouldn't think. Suarez has pretty much agreed the move and seemingly can go if Barca offer the requisite sum as let the supposed agreement contained in his contract.

I also think Liverpool have likely grown a bit tired if his antics. He clearly wants away.

In my dreams I try and aim a bit higher though. Sanchez and Vidal to United :annoyed:
Even with our wingers being shite I just can't see us snatch both of them. We've spent sixty odd million, now there was talk that LVG was willing to spend up to 160 mil but I just don't see it myself. I'd love to see us do it just the once but it's very pie in the sky. 1 marquee signing and then a defender.

Gut feeling says this is spot on. LvG aiming to turn Lingaard, Zaha, etc. into happy revelations.

To be honest I can't see why we wouldn't be interested in Sanchez.

LVG has just watched an impressive World Cup performance first hand. Woodward wants a marquee singing and he's available for a seemingly decent fee.

Add to that, Young has been awful and is likely one who they'll look to move on, while Nani is repeatedly linked with a move away. Seems a winger could be useful.

Other positions may be a "priority" but supposedly the money is there for the right players. It's also been clear for weeks (and probably longer with agents etc) that he was available. Offers (plural) have been made according to Barca and he's a player we have had a previous long standing interest in. We're also seemingly trying to sign his teammate.

I could be wrong of course - just seems logical to me.

I've become increasingly convinced over the years that Tony Barrett and the other Liverpool based Times writers just write exactly what the club briefs and never say anything negative about the club out of fear of the supporters.
