Alexis Sanchez | Signed for Arsenal

Arsenal are a massive club.. we are just bigger.

Back on topic, Alexis would be the perfect signing to get us challenging for the title let alone top four next season.

As a number #10 that is not debatable... Mata is better, more vision and will score the same amount of goals.

Yet to be seen I hope your right but Rooney has a massive effect on our team and the opponents.

Massive disrespect on this forum for Arsenal given it's clearly a massive club that's in the CL with renewed financial resources.

You ask for it with the 'clearly best option' nonsense though. Most massive clubs have gotten to more than one European cup final in their history. Arsenal are the Roma of the premier league basically.

Yes, and in the last 8 years they have been past the CL QF's once. Not to mention the glorious rise in the last 9 years in Prem when they are either 3rd or 4th(more likely 4th).

Roma came 2nd this season in Italy and have won 3 titles in the last 9 years.

Arse are more like Fiorentina :D

Agree. Arsenal just won a trophy and have a great core at the moment. I think Arsenal will be a massive suprise for many next year. Most seem to forget, that before the injury problems, they were great in PL.

I still see Arsenal as a soft touch, Ramsey looked great last season - but Gibbs, Arteta, Wilshere, Ozil, Cazorla can all be beaten when the game gets real.

The problem is how many times have we heard that over the last 10 years. Don't get me wrong I prefer arsenal to most of our other rivals but its the same cycle every few years (get a good team, fail to address weaknesses in the squad and then sell their best players then repeat)

A club that's happy just to get Top 4 without doing enough to ever challenge regularly for trophies and one with a long history of being happy to sell its best players to the highest bidder, even if they are domestic rivals.

Would absolutely hate my club to have such little ambition.

I agree I would probably take Wilshere out of your list, not really a soft touch just not that good but will at least put up a fight. koscielny always comes across as a bit hit and miss in crucial games when he should really be a leader at the back for them.

Can someone explain me the logic in this transfer muppetry? Sanchez was one of the best wingers in the world last year, he is one of the best performers in the World Cup.

He plays for a club which is better than United, with a front trio of Neymar-Messi-Sanchez and for some reason he wants to go to United? Even if he would like to go to United, how would he manage to convince Barcelona to accept that? Has there been any reports of him being unhappy at Barcelona or has he stated United is his favorite club or something?

He's going. Barcelona are selling. They have too many attackers and need to raise some money, and he is the one who is not only the most marketable, he is also not from La Masia or Catalan.

Apparently Barca want to sell.

Any direct sources to that? Not long ago they made this official statement:

The Chilean forward has been the subject of continuing rumours that he will not be part of new Barcelona coach Luis Enrique's plans for next season.

However, Barca have gone public to end the speculation and warn clubs to not bother enquiring about his availability during the close-season.

"Alexis is not a Barcelona player who is on the market," the Catalan club's president Josep Maria Bartomeu announced.

"He has a contract with us and that is the only thing that counts. He has had an excellent season for us.

"Obviously, he is part of our plans for next season. We have always wanted him here and he is a highly valued player at this club."

Juventus are reported to have made a formal enquiry about Sanchez, but Bartomeu insisted that they have not had any contact with the Serie A champions.

"We do not know anything about the interest from Juventus," he continued.

"Nothing official has reached us. For that you would have to speak to the player's agent.

"I read so many things these days about the summer transfer market; there are so many stories that I think it is best not to comment at all."

Alastair and Cesc I wouldn't pay too much attention to the belittling of Arsenal in here.

Some of it is from fans of a club who have managed to finish at the dizzying heights of 6th, 8th and 7th in 3 out of the last 4 years, bottled a title challenge with 3 games to go last season and have only won a solitary Carling Cup (on penalties to a championship side) in the past 8 years.

Rest of it is just old cliches that used to be applicable to Arsenal sides of years gone by but not now.

People said we needed to win a trophy in order to earn back some respect, well we have and the views remain the same.

We're not Barcelona or Madrid but we are a lot better than most in here give us credit for. When City won the fa cup it was the start of a great new era for them in the eyes of many, we win the fa cup and somehow the reaction is the complete opposite.

Sanchez would come to Arsenal, over the likes of Man Utd? Probably not.

Erm, I remember you being a very smug Alastair last season. He who lives by the sword................ is that right Glaston? Or Pete....Cesc baby is coming home.

Arsenal are a fantastic club, who are run very well. I think most acknowledge this, but the issue is, you've won just the one trophy in what, 9 years? If you address this over the next couple of seasons, put up some proper title challenges (maybe even win it?), win a few more trophies, and all the jokes will stop, and you'll have the full respect of opposition fans again. Atm, you're still an easy target for non Arsenal fans (Just like United will be if we don't buck up our ideas next season may I add).

Personally, I like Arsenal, and I'd much prefer to see you winning titles over the likes of City and Chelsea.

Nail on the head in fairness.

Wouldn't be overly surprised if Sanchez went to Arsenal. Especially if it was a choice between them and Liverpool. Champions League football, a bit more cash to throw around in contracts and the like and a team that plays attractive football and has a squad that should be more competitive than they have been.

I'd like to think we're the more attractive option if we were in for him, but the lack of Champions League football will be a hindrance no matter what. It may not be enough to put players off as they might hope it's a once off, but it is definitely a hindrance.

Isn't the Champions League excuse what Spurs players use when they want to leave?

I Rly like Sanchez. I wanted us to sign him a year before Barcelona did, and Fergie never managed to get Gill to actually get it done. Now when Barcelona looks set to buy Suarez and Sanchez might be sold, we're not in a very good position to sign him, as we're not in the Champions League. (No clue if we're in the EL or not after banned teams etc.)

Many clubs are scrambling for Sanchez, and we should take advantage of it and try and get someone else - someone like El Shaarawy at AC Milan.

Whilst I'm not a huge fan of Sanchez, he would fit in pretty much perfectly with what we have at the moment. The squad is stacked though and I can't see us signing forwards until we have had at least 2-3 departures.

If we are to sign a winger though, I struggle to think of many who would tick the boxes for us the way Sanchez does.

Great post

If he Sanchez has a choice between Arsenal and Liverpool he'll go to Arsenal I reckon. Would like him at United but don't think we're after him.

I'd like to try and downplay the CL aspect but I know next season if we do get back into the CL I'll use the exact same excuse about the draw of the CL and how all the best players will want to join us. Sanchez is one of the top players around, he's in the tier of players who deserve to be in the biggest competitions season in season out.

This summer does actually expose how incompetent Moyes actually was, goes on holiday in june, does not even get going until the beggining of July, so it shows LVG is with the dutch but he is on top of united's transfer priority's. So it shows deals are going on all the time
In fairness he had absolutely every right to go on Holiday and he didn't take over as our manager until July, I can see why it annoyed people though, annoyed me at the time but in hindsight there was no reason for him not to.

I'm pretty sure we'll be signing Depay instead of Sanchez which i'll be delighted about even if we have to wait a season extra for Depay to develop. Having Depay and Januzaj on the wings would be the best young wingers we've had coming up together since Becks and Giggs....LVG may go for an ageing winger who has just a couple of years left in them as a stop gap while younger wingers are developing

I wouldn't mind missing out on Sanchez (providing he doesn't go to Liverpool).

I'd rather we bring in another midfielder like Vidal, then perhaps go for a winger like Reus next season. They're not really in shortage.

See people are saying that, but is it really true? What top class, tricky, fast winger is available, or will be on the move soon? Sanchez, potentially Reus a year from now. There's nobody else really on the move. Di Maria I doubt is going anywhere, and the rest of the best ones are already at top clubs.

Perhaps not in huge numbers, but its certainly easier to find an alternative to Sanchez than there is to a player like Vidal who's pretty much in a league of his own.

I think Wilshere grew up surrounded by a lot of fans complaining about a lack a fight in the team and took it upon himself to be that player. Unfortunately he just doesnt have the physique for it. He'd be better focussing his aggression in a different way.

Wilshere and Szczesny are both similiar in the fact that they play to the crowds, they want to be heros to the fans, but ultimately they make stupid mistakes and lose focus.

Where do you get this utter bollox from?

good post. Arsenal have been in a much better position than Liverpool for a number of years. imo they have not won the league because of the board...and to a point..Wenger's stubbornness. I think the board is beginning to loosen its purse strings now...and than we will see what the club can achieve.
