I don't get this Champions League rubbish.. what's to say this time next year we are in it and they aren't? suddenly it looks like the wrong choice. Also I'm sure given how Arsene goes about his business we will offer him the best wage and let's be honest, that's what most of it comes down to these days. Oh and also, Manchester isn't a bad place to live you know (well the places the players live anyway) so I don't get this London is amazing blah blah blah
Well Arsenal are also a big club with big players, and a top manager. They are currently in the champions league so that goes their way. Some players won't be willing to risk going a year without it, or even more. And for pretty much most people, London has more appeal then Manchester, because of reputation.

Well, we can pay quite a bit more than either Arsenal or Liverpool, so there's that. He probably likes money. Most footballers do.

I think we need him more than Vidal. Ander, Carrick, Cleverley, Fellaini can get us back into the top four. But the quality wingers left to sign are getting smaller by the window.

And we a bigger club with just as good players and manager.. on thing they have on us is that they have champions league football next year but as I said they might not next year and we might so a player might not risk that. And yes, London has a better reputation but where the players will be living it's not like an estate (oh and Robin was quick to swap London for Manchester). In terms of everything else we are just a pull, we can offer more wages/fee, bigger club, better history oh and Alexis is a Utd fan (I know it means little but you never know).

Right on. Especially the London bit. London is a hellhole. The nearest passable Fish & Chips is hundreds of miles north. That's no place to live.

I think Valencia's contract extension is an indicator that we probably not looking for another winger right now.

Yep agree id love him here but Robben Di Maria and Moura are all quality too.

Or that is the only one that is surviving the axe amongst a highly uninspiring bunch. His ability to fill in at rightback could also have helped his case . Pursuing Sanchez is a no brainer you just do it regardless of who you have in your side . Mata pulling the strings behind a Sanchez- RVP-Rooney trio is a championship challenging quartet.
As I said before, the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal will baulk at the wage and commercial terms we can offer.

Possibly, or like Nani to keep his resell value. Having said that, I have a feeling we could see Evra in a more advanced role this season giving us an extra wing option without having to actually buy a new player.

Yeah I can't see why on earth Barca would entertain selling him (which apparently they're not) when they just lost a quality player in Cesc and will be losing Xavi's experience.

Keeping Valencia makes absolute sense regardless of any possible new signings. He offers cover for an injury prone Rafael, and can play wingback if we change to 3 at the back

I'm guessing that was the club's logic as well. Tony V is fairly versatile in that regard.

They do need one to go. They have to make space for Suarez. Messi, Neymar, Sanchez, Pedro, Deulofeu, Tello, Rafinha... Quite a few attacking players, and Alexis is the one who isn't Catalan or from La Masia, and is the one who'd fetch a pretty penny. He will leave, I'm certain.

It's Barca, when Madrid and them are in this mood such logic has no place in their decisions. Remember Madrid shipping Robben, Schneider and Van der Vart ? Well something similar could be in the cards and we should move in for the kill.

Robben just signed a contract. He is also 31 right? Just because he is Dutch doesn't mean he is moving. Di Maria had a great season at Madrid. Doubt they will want to move him. And Moura has had an underwhelming season and PSG are trying to build a Brazilian squad there. So doubt he is going to move this summer as well.

I doubt Barca will sell Sanchez though, as it would be a bit suicidal for their La Liga ambitions.

So as far as I can gather United are Sanchez's only realistic destination given their wage structure. I'm pretty sure Liverpool and Arsenal could compete given the fact that Sanchez would not be paid as well as the best paid player at either club. Plus, these deals are more nuanced than just discussing wages. Other factors are at play:
  • Selling club's position
  • Swap deals
  • CL football
  • Pecking order at potential destination
  • Vision of manager at potential destination
I'm not suggesting Sanchez is heading for Anfield but I'm also reluctant to address the issue on simple terms where only wages count.

Plus, there's nothing to match it when fans start pulling accountancy out if their backsides.

But if they are signing Suarez for sure, then he is going to be second fiddle.

Suarez

Neymar------Rakitic------Messi

Iniesta-----Busquets

With Rakitic and Iniesta capable of switching their positions.

Yes, it makes sense from that perspective. However, he seemed to be a key player for both SAF and Moyes. Also, this may just be my opinion, but almost every pundit etc. never seem to criticise him, so I still think he is being kept to be our first choice right winger. I hope I'm wrong though.

I don't really like Valencia as he's one dimensional, however I can understand why anyone would want to keep him. He's hardworking, a tough tackler and give a different approach to the game then players like Sanchez or Depay would give.

We traditionally pay more in wages for players than Arsenal or Liverpool. That could be the deciding factor, players love their money.

If he does choose to come to Arsenal, I'd be absolutely delighted and would even accept not bringing in a quality out and out forward if we managed to get him. Loved his performance today ( despite the penalty miss). He takes up some very good positions, sometimes drops deep and sometimes work the channels I love the way he takes players on, has excellent vision and is a cool finisher- he'd be an excellent buy for anyone in my opinion including United and I'm really not sure why Barca want to get rid.

Initially I wanted a real number 9 but there are very few top class ones out there. Signing Sanchez would allow us to have flexible front three on occasions as well as play him off Giroud if a focal point was needed, having Joel Campbell back will also allow us more options. I'm sure now Chile are out he's going to be pretty much linked with every one but I do have good reasons to believe we are atleast negogiating.

Arsenal aren't getting him over the clubs that'll be inevitably in for him. Including United.

We traditionally pay a higher transfer fee too. A one off transfer for Ozil doesn't change that.

If they have their minds set on Suarez, as it appears, I wouldn't put it past them. They are embarking on a mini rebuild themselves and he, especially after the World Cup, he's had will fetch a decent fee, hell if they play their cards right they could/should get forty million for him.
We are possibly losing Hernandez so I think the Glazers wouldn't be averse to paying top dollar for a South American superstar for marketing purposes.

Maybe it's because the players at Barca are technically brilliant but he looks a hell of a lot better for Chile based on this and the last WC.

Sort of wished we signed him instead of Kagawa. Im a fan of Kagawa but Rodriguez in the past twelve months had gone up a tier from Kagawa.
More like the last 12 minutes...what a goal!

Think we would really benefit from adding a pacey, goal scoring wide player to the squad to offer us something different, mata, Rooney, kagawa and januzaj are all fairly similar in terms of what they offer if they are playing wide and well beck, young and nani just aren't consistent enough. Sanchez fits the bill perfectly and would be a great signing as would robben or reus but Sanchez is probably the only one that would be attainable. Not seen much of depay or griezmann but they could be options as well but obviously they aren't at the same level yet.

Someone from the forums who has got a couple of deals right in the past iirc, an itk :)

He's a monster, beast, I don't know. He's extremely difficult to get dislodged off the ball. Keeps coming at the defenders.
