Alexis Sanchez | Signed for Arsenal

Do Liverpool seriously think they can get this guy and that City, PSG et al won't be in for him too?

Who fought Arsenal for Ozil? Or Chelsea for Fabregas? Or us for Torres? Or even Alonso? Or Suarez? Or City for Augero? Or Silva? Or Chelsea for Mata? Or your lot for Mata?

There are many world class players sold without the usual suspects going into transfer muppet mode to get in among the bidding.

Looks like Markovic is joining that list. I doubt Sanchez happens unless Suarez goes.
Completely agree with this and find it very odd that any mention of Suarez is banned from RAWKs Sanchez transfer thread. Don't see how you can realistically discuss one without the other :wenger:

I believe he doesn't fit in personally. His status wouldn't allow him to be a sub, and he isn't as good a striker as Persie, nor does he have the pace or guile to be a top class 11 or 10.

I think the ideal thing is for him to leave, with the likely scenario being us playing him anywhere, even if it means bloody right back or something just to have him in the line up. I think it will remain like that so long as he appears in more adverts than the rest of the squad.

Ye I understand what you mean, I suppose we will have to wait and see how LvG wants to line us up. If it's 1 up top RvP has to lead the line and Mata has to play behind the striker, which leaves Rooney on either side. Though there is nothing wrong with interchanging during a game.

He may opt for a 3-5-2 which would allow Rooney, RvP and Mata to play in their preferred positions but I can't see it myself.

Probably because he is a very good midfielder.

Agree if we go in with Herrera, and an in form Carrick in tandem this season then it will be huge improvement on last season no doubt, if we get a Vidal type player then Carrick will be a wonderful back up.

I reckon Van Gaal wants to bring Robben here instead. Can't see it happening but I'd be surprised if that wasn't the plan.

I'm sure he/we would have an idea by now of whether that was possible, and I very much doubt it is. If he wants to bring in a winger, I don't think we'd be waiting around on Robben unless there was a good chance of it happening which should be easy enough to gauge.

It's just a mixture of jealousy and worry.

I think, as with Fabregas and all Barca's more frustrated leavers, he'll be tremendous for whoever gets him. Point to prove kind of territory.

He most definitely will be. He got 20 goals and 12 assists last season - it's crazy that he'd need to prove himself somewhere, but that's Barca/Madrid for you. I'd be interested to see how Liverpool use him. I think there's a good chance they could use him in the middle.

Likewise... One slight caveat would be whether he's the player Liverpool need with CM and defence being more of a worry - particularly in Europe.

Though as I said with Mata, when players like that become available, you just buy.

I bet you would have said the same last year about Ozil to Arsenal. Whether we like it or not, Liverpool are a huge club and now they are in the CL will certainly make top players take notice. I don't think this deal for them is out their reach. I would hate if Sanchez chose them though.

Best case scenario- Arsenal give Barcelona 35 mill for Sanchez and they use that money to help fund a deal for Suarez.

We get a top class player
Prevent Liverpool from getting Sanchez and best of all,
Help engineer a move out of England for Suarez.

Get it done Gazidis.

These player + cash things don't tend to happen anyway. Must be an absolutely shitty feeling for the player used as a makeweight in such a deal - and Alexis was one of Barca's best last season so I don't think he'll be playing ball in a deal like that unless he has some sort of emotional attachment to LFC and it's a dream move, which I doubt.

Sanchez likes United doesn't he? Just don't see us being interested in another big name forward unless we clear out Nani/Young/Valencia.

Nani, Welbeck, Young, Valencia, Zaha, Januzaj, Kagawa/Mata are all players who will spend a lot of their playing time outwide. Far too many of them unfortunately for us to be in for this one.

Should never have bought Zaha if we knew Fergie was retiring in the summer. Even then we still need to get rid of two more I think, assuming we send Zaha out on loan again.

Personally, I would actually think about selling 3 of them if we were to buy Sanchez. Nani, Young and even Kagawa. Kagawa hasn't really settled in and has just 2 years left on his deal. This is probably the last window we can actually get some decent value for him, or else he'll be going for peanuts next summer with 1 year left on his contract.

I don't expect Nani, Young or Zaha to be at the club next season, and nor do I think Mata or Kagawa will get many games out wide under Van Gaal.

I certainly don't think it will be easy, but I do think it's necessary, and by no means impossible.

No top level team is going to want him at his skill level, and none of the mid table teams in the EPL can afford to pay his wages. So I'm not sure who exactly would take him...

Is there any speculation that we're interested in him other than what's coming from here on the caf?

I believe Liverpool experienced similar problems with Andy carroll, Stewart Downing and Joe Cole. There are ways around the salary issues; Joe Cole took a £3m pay-off from Liverpool to get him off their wage bill and facilitate his move to West Ham (which involved him taking a significant pay-cut). As I said, not easy, but by no means impossible. United's wide options need freshening up.

The Herrera deal shows us that nobody in the mainstream media has a clue who we're trying to sign under the management of LVG. Alot of names have been thrown about by the tabloids since LVG was appointed but we ended up with Herrera who the more reliable Journalists said we were not interested in any more. Sanchez is a player who fits in very well with our managers system and philosophy and I would be very surprised if we're not in for him.

We might struggle to offload Nani, Zaha and Young all at once but I don't think that will stop us signing their replacement.

I could see him at Arsenal maybe. Liverpool, I really doubt it.

If we're interested and he's available, can't see him anywhere but us.

We finally are flexing some financial muscle. No CL for one season is meaningless. It's all about the cash and trophies.

We've never been more at attractive, ever - if we continue to pay market rates, finally.

It does seem as if another midfielder and central defender is the priority, so I'd be surprised if we end up signing Sanchez.

Italian media was reporting it pretty much a few months back and has carried on with it as us being the main opposition to Jueventus. In the last month or so the Liverpool Arsenal interest has popped up in the media.

I'd hang onto Zaha & get rid of Nani & Young. When i say "get rid" - i mean that in a Goodfellas way too..

Yep couldn't agree more add Cleverley Fletcher and with a heavy heart Hernandez to this list. Buy a winger forward type ie Sanchez, Di Maria, Moura or Robben and we'd be a real threat.

Carrick Herrera
Mata
Januzaj van Persie Sanchez

:drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

I don't see the obsession with everyone dropping Ronney to accommodate Sanchez.

Carrick Herrera
Mata
Januzaj van Persie Rooney

And use the Sanchez money to replace Carrick

For me, the concern is that something like your lineup does not have enough pace compared to one with Sanchez in it.

Ronney isn't exactly slow

http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014/04/06/worlds-fastest-footballer-revealed-not-baleronaldowalcott/

1. Antonio Valencia – 35.1 km/h

2. Gareth Bale – 34.7 km/h

3. Aaron Lennon – 33.8 km/h

4. Cristiano Ronaldo – 33.6 km/h

5. Theo Walcott – 32.7 km/h

6.Lionel Messi – 32.5 km/h

7. Wayne Rooney – 31.2 km/h

8. Franck Ribery – 30.7 km/h

I've always thought that Rooney was slow from a standing start, or have I got that wrong?

Sanchez is very fast which will be very helpful and he also is a brilliant player on the wings when Rooney is usually garbage. However, I think that Adnan/Kagawa will be the main victimes if such a transfer happens. I guess that RVP will play as the main striker, Rooney as a second striker/No.10 with Mata and Sanchez on the wings.

Then if that is the plan I think it is even worse.
What is the point buying a player that is going to severely limit Januzaj's chances, a player who could go on to be better than Sanchez imo

If Januzaj is good enough, then he will manage to become a starter be it in Rooney, Mata or Sanchez position.

But I think that the main thing with Sanchez is that he is a very good winger and will give us an another option. We have a lot of good players that can play on wings (Januzaj, Mata, Kagawa and to a degree also Welbeck and Rooney) but for neither of them that is the preferred position and even when they play there they like to go a bit on the center and do playmaking duties. We also need an explosive player there who with his pace and delivery destroy the opponents. While we have three of them (Nani, Valencia and Young), neither of them is good enough and I expect 2 of them to be sold within 6-7 months.

Januzaj may be good enough in a year or two but he may not get the chance to prove it here and want away to get first team football

He will get his chance even if he isn't a starter. There are a lot of games, both of Rooney and RVP are injury prone, Van Gaal trusts young players, etc etc.

If our manager was someone other than Van Gaal i would be concerned about Januzaj aswell but under Van Gaal and his track record of bringing through young players i have no concern.
