Alexis Sanchez | Signed for Arsenal

I'm not entirely sure where it's come from, particularly since there's nothing to suggest we're even in for him as we are yet to be linked by anyone reliable. He's obviously a good player, but he's not really reached the heights he did at Udinese while at Barca, and while he's played well in both WC games, it's not like he's the tournament stand-out or anything (he's not been as good as Cuadrado for example). I'd obviously be pleased if we signed him, but he's just one of a number of good wide players who might potentially be available this summer.

My thoughts exactly. Cuadrado I'd love to have. Would be a scary player in the EPL like Valencia in his peak.

If Liverpool are interested in Sanchez and Barca are after Suarez, it's hard to see one happening without the other

It isn't really.

If Suarez wants the move he'll likely get it whether Sanchez wants to come the other way or not.

Suarez must have been made assurances when he signed his new deal I suspect.

Admittedly I'm overlooking Sanchez's club preference with my previous post. If he outright refuses to go to Liverpool then obviously that'd throw a spanner in the works.

Even if Suarez forces his way out, he seems to at the very least have enough love for the club to not feck them over as he goes. If Liverpool felt Sanchez being involved in the deal was the best outcome for them, which I'm sure they would, then I don't think Suarez would try to circumvent that. I think Barca would go for that deal (seems pretty clear he's for sale) and Sanchez's personal preference would be the only obstacle.

This would be the best way for Barca to appeal to Liverpool ahead of Real. Everyone is as happy as can be, given the circumstances.

Suarez will do what's best for Luis Suarez. The fact that he signed a new deal when he didn't need to suggests that he has assurances from the club that in certain circumstances he can leave the club. I'd suspect one of Real Madrid or Barcelona coming in is one of them. He gets his move, the club sanction the deal and get a huge fee (more than they would have got under the previous contract) - everyone is relatively happy. He won't choose one club over another just to help Liverpool out, he'll go where he thinks is best for him.

Sanchez likewise will do what's best for his own career. Lots of clubs will be in for him, possibly with bigger financial packages and without Suarez, Liverpool look a totally different proposition going forward and long term without their star man. You'd have to ask why he'd choose them over Juventus or possibly even United.

This all sounds like Journo's being lazy because it makes some kind if easy sense. The reality is swap deals are always talked about and practically never happen.

I hope we can get him instead of Liverpool. I think Suarez will go to Real Madrid if he leaves so hopefully the trade offer won't affect it.

I think Suarez is a cnut as much as the next guy, but I do think he cares more about Liverpool than you make out. Otherwise why did he sign that new contract at all if there was a £40m release clause in the last one?

Also it wouldn't be the first time a club has thrown it's weight around to dictate where a player is, or is not, to be sold to.

By the way I'm not sure if journos have reported this story. If they have, I haven't seen any reports, and it wasn't why I said this in the first place. I just think it's a deal that would make sense for a lot of reasons for all involved. Depends on a lot of factors still though of course.

Don't you think he could have got more again elsewhere? Barca & Real would surely pay better.

If that's all he cares about at all, then even go to Russia, Monaco, PSG, etc.

The deal he signed will likely give him a tidy pay rise and the ability to move to certain clubs if suitable offers are made. It means Liverpool might get more cash and he's out in a much better position as well. He wins as much as the club - if not more.

He might care about the club, but he's a professional and will pick the best deal for him.

Really the most important issue is why Sanchez would want to go to Liverpool without Suarez who are without him an arguably much less competitive side than they were, when he is likely to have a lot if options elsewhere with more money or a bigger chance if success long term.

As I said, fans love to talk about swap deals. They rarely ever happen because you need both players on board.

Maybe last season other teams were a bit reluctant to sign him with the sanction pending. Both Madrid and Barcelona had clear targets last summer in Neymar and Bale, so maybe other offers weren't as interesting or high.

Well he signed the new contract in January and he was never gonna leave at that particular point in time. I think that he pretty much doubled his wages and that his new contract was backdated to the start of the season. So basically he probably got an extra few million quid in his bank account just for signing a new contract in January.

What is this?

He's been incredible so far this WC. I admit I had underestimated how good he is until watching him in Brazil. We would be crazy if we weren't in for him, hopefully being in his group has made LVG really take notice.

This is what I've been hoping. Surely in preparation for this WC they'd have watched videos and maybe even scouted him in their preparation. He's had a good season for Barcelona as well so that can't have done him any harm. I can't understand why Barcelona want to sell but I'll put it down to the fact that maybe Deulofeu has been earmarked to take his place in the team. I don't buy the argument that he doesn't fit their style because they've been criticised for a lack of a plan B and taking all of the direct players out of the team would make them even more one dimensional.

I really want us to buy him this summer. He's available and exactly what we need on our RW.

I agree on everything except it remains if he's available to us. I'm sure if we were in the Champions League we'd be in the running, but he's a young player so you never know, he may be willing to wait a couple of season until we're back in it.

I don't buy the argument that we won't attract top players because we aren't in the CL next season. We've made CL every season for 19 seasons (or something similar) this season quite clearly is an anomaly. I don't think incoming players will be so short sighted to not be able to look past one season out of it. They're not signing just for next season alone. If we offer the player a competitive wage and the right transfer fee for the club I don't see why a deal can't be done.

They mentioned that van Gaal was an admirer, he was excellent again today, taking the game to Holland and shielding the ball brilliantly, the rest of Chile's attack just isn't up to his level unfortunately.

See I do buy it, I agree he gives them that flexibility to chance tactics but this is Barcelona, they don't want that flexibility, they think if you can't play the Barcelona way then you can't play for Barcelona.

I'm encouraged why by our previous interest in 2011 and this admiration for the premier league, surely it stands us in good stead?

Sanchez definitely plays better when he is the main man in the side. He was unbelievably good at Udinese and seems like his old self in the Chile team.

The Barcelona system doesn't really fit into his explosive style due to their ball retention.

Seeing some rumours that Phil Thompson was on newstalk.ie and said Sanchez to Liverpool was a done deal

Edit further thing looks like he's been told by journalists close to Liverpool that the Sanchez deal is done.

Great signing for them if true, I really wanted him here. If they can keep Suarez and fix their defence then they're going to have a very good team.

I reckon it may be a case like Hazard where his agent has been allowed to talk personal details with a variety of clubs and agreements have been made.

Robben is 5 years older though. He's definitely got star quality and room to improve, but his decision making and overall creativity seems top notch, which obviously improved a lot during his time at Barca. He has all the attributes to become a truly world class winger too, and United is definitely the type of club that lets wingers shine. Reus isn't going anywhere, neither is Robben. After that, who is there? Di Maria and Bale but neither are going anywhere either. Sanchez on form like whenever he plays for Chile is definitely up there with the rest.

Signing Sanchez is a robben 2009 chance here, our current wingers are garbage, janazaj I am not including in the current wingers who are pretty dire for united, his price tag and age would be the perfect fit

imagine a 5 man midfield of the 4231 formation with
Carrick Herrera
Sanchez mata janazaj

Imagine that midfield, you got a possible championship winning midfield on your hands with RVP has the privet upfront
