my interpretation is if news of being a bid made by MUFC is coming from Turin where Juventus is based, they're trying to plant stories to take some attention off them. wouldn' be surprised if they are interested in signing him
That doesn't really make sense does it? Creating false competition and driving the price up to make him more expensive than he should be?

Also, the last CL win aside, which I think was probably seen as a bit of an anomaly (see Greece at Euro 2004) are Liverpool a huge draw on the continent these days for them to have a realistic chance of out-bidding/out-appealing the likes of us or Chelsea or even a club based in London for obvious geographical advantages.
I'm not sure what Liverpool's currency is right now but that statement is absurd. In that era 05-09 Liverpool were as good as anyone in the CL. Four quarters, three semis and two finals is very strong. Liverpool had cache which is what got them Torres and probably attracted Suarez during the early Europa League years. The word anomaly is just clutching.

As for now, I do think Liverpool's sparkle has dulled a bit but hopefully not too much.

At international level Sánchez has been much better and his last season at Udinese was every bit as good as Reus' last season at Monchengladbach. The only difference is Reus made the move to the right club whereas Sánchez made the more ambitious - and in retrospect more foolish - decision to move to the best team in the world. We have no idea how Reus would play in that Barcelona side but we know that he wouldn't be playing with the same freedom and authority, because as good as he is he would have to be a supporting player for Messi. You can't overlook what that does to a player's confidence and ability to express themselves. If you watch his most recent game for Chile you can see the difference, particularly in his passing:

That's exactly how I remember Sanchez. Watched him at Copa America 2011, he was really impressive. Dragging his team, taking responsibility being the main man, and his tenacity.

It's just at that time, United had Nani and Valencia firing, so less needed for him.

We can surely outbid Juve?

Absoutely. The question is whether we're actually bidding at all, rather than can we outbid the likely competitors.

The rumours are coming from Italy, then Spain and finally from the UK (with the Spanish and UK ones feeding each other), and the UK ones (from what I've seen) aren't from the most reliable United journalists.

Still I like the rumour that we're bidding, so I'm believing it. :D

Jamie Jackson reported our interest though? He's quite reliable this summer, even though most of his reporting is on the negative side regarding us. Hopefully we are in for him though, quality winger. If he is available we should not think twice.

how is it driving up the price? how do we know the competition is false?

If there are two teams interested in a player then it's bound to drive the price up. The selling team will try to play the two interested buyers off against one another to get the best sale price.

that's if the actual bid even took place...

even then if a club is eager to sell there are some cases where they may sell to the club where the process is less complicated which could mean they sell to the club who offers less.

it could be a case where the buying club is offering more money but less willing to meet the agent fee demands. all these things play a factor. plus assuming clubs only sell to the highest bidder assumes imo they have sound businessmen running the club.

sorry about the edits. constantly multi-tasking

Really? Teams bid more when others are involved to secure his services. It doesn't matter, false or genuine.

According to lou macari we wont sign him

Macari said he was happy with our midfield options the other week. He hasn't got a clue sometimes.

Tuttosport again on Thursday paint the story of poor little Alexis Sanchez and small club Juventus. The downtrodden footballer is currently held hostage at Barcelona and has been there for some time now, with the world looking the other way. Juventus can only muster together a maximum of €18m for the player, explain Turin newspaper Tuttosport, and the big baddies at Barcelona want €25m. It's all so unfair.

For those not feeling the sympathy; €18m is over £14m and Sanchez is just a winger, even if he is one of the best at it in the world. Barcelona should just free the player.

Manchester United have the temerity to be ready to offer the asking price, explain Tuttosport, but Sanchez doesn't want to go there. He loves Italy, Italian football is in his blood, he feels good playing in black and white.

Tuttosport even have a new angle. The footballer's girlfriend is Italian. Italian! As they put it 'Van Gaal will have to deal with an unexpected rival, stubborn, and, most importantly, very seductive.'

Can't Barcelona show some human decency and let this move happen?

The Turin newspaper has explained that Barcelona have told Juventus that if they're short of the cash then Sanchez can be included in a deal for Arturo Vidal or Paul Pogba. But Juventus don't want this, if they are to sell either of the midfielders then they want a huge transfer fee... that'll obviously be different from the Sanchez situation.

I hope we give barcelona £40m for Sanchez and Song both would be good additions to our team.

He got a goal and assist and could have easily been a couple more assists. He's had 6 assists and 1 goal in last 3 games (with national team).

you're acting like you sit at the negotiation table. i wonder why our supposed false bid didn raise fabregas price

Looked really bright today. Wanted the ball and made things happen when he got it. Skinned Jedinak and played a nice, simple ball after on the Valdivia goal.

Would be a lovely fit on one wing with Januzaj on the other and Kagawa or Mata as the 10 setting them up. Doubt Barca sell, though. Swap deal for Mata would be interesting, but swaps never happen.

The few times I've watched him play for Chile, he's definitely got a creative spark in him that's not always apparent for Barca.

He plays a much freer role for Chile than he does for Barca. I would love to have him since LVG would know to give him that freedom in his system at United.

Tutto Sport is for Juventus what Marca is for Barcelona

Stepped up yesterday when needed. If you only have few world class players, you need them to step up in tournaments, otherwise you won't get far. Sanchez, RvP and Robben have done this so far in the WC (Neymar and Oscar, too, but Brazil have an overall better squad than Netherlands or Chile).

He is a supposed United fan and Sir Alex was after him before he went to Barca. We should pay a little extra and secure him this time.

Get on it, Woody!

Out of all the players linked to us this summer, Sanchez would be the one i would be most excited about. He had a great game today. I just wish that Woody can get hold of him this summer. Instead of trying to get Robben, Sanchez should be the one we should be targeting.

I wouldn't read too much into a game against Australia, arguably the worst team in the tournament.

These are my sentiments exactly and we ought to move fast to secure his signature before the oil clubs sit up and take notice .

I don't think anyone is making their minds up about him after 1 WC game. Most probably watch him week in week out for Barcelona and he's had a good season and is exactly what we need.

I think his last 4 or 5 seasons have more to do with most wanting him.

True Australia are pretty weak in WC terms but those wingers of theirs were decent. They both looked better than Ashley Young!

If we can't get Robben (which we can't) Sanchez is the next best, most similar thing. Definitely worth a bid. He feels more attainable than a lot of the guys we have been linked to.
