I think there's plenty of truth to this. I hope we land him, he'd suit us perfectly.

Mata is better than Rooney or Kagawa in the CAM position.
IMO we should be building the team around Mata and RVP.

hmmm

still think Mata has some way to go before you can say he is better than Rooney in that 10 position - 6 goals and a few assists was decent in the closing stages

Rooney (and I've been one of his bigger critics) is still a more effective player for me - he dominates games more and certainly has more of a physical presence and defensive discipline than Mata

I'm not sure how useful Mata is when we are under pressure - defensively and in terms of work rate I'd say he's more of a Berbatov than a Tevez

lets not ignore the fact Rooney scored 17 in 29 PL games - Mata got 6 in 15 - pretty decent and obviously a more likeable player but Rooney is for me still a better option at #10

anyway - slightly off topic - lets hope these rumours on Sanchez have some legs and the Guardian isn't just using the story as filler before the World Cup

I'm sorry but this is just silly to me. Rooney has been so sub-par at no.10 in comparison with Kagawa and Mata. Even Januzaj has looked more decisive in that role. You don't need a physical presence in that role, rather you need a great first touch, vision and good/great precise passing. All of which Rooney failed to demonstrate consistently last season.

Rooney scores goals, which is fantastic but he's a no.9 and should play there.

He's the sort of player that would get us back to playing the 'United way'. A quick, powerful, skillful winger which we haven't had since Nani decided to turn to a bag of shit. We should be going all out for this lad, especially if £20m is enough to do do a deal with Barca.

I think I would cry with joy if we replaced Valencia on the right wing with Sanchez. The upgrade would be massive.

£20mil is a bargain.

Tbh i'd rather see Lingard given a shot by a manager who does wonders with young talents. I'd welcome the move though, Sanchez is class.

Don't worry, we have more than Valencia to be replaced, we still have Young/Zaha/Nani queuing up to be out.

Why do people think he will fail? FFS we're talking here of a player who scored 21 goals in 46 appearances (club and country) last season. That's pretty impressive to me.

the pace and skill he'd bring would be superb.....

Liverpool showed how pace, trickery and exploiting the space pays off - I think he would bring the best out of our midfielders in becoming a brilliant outlet and would free up space for RVP or whoever.....

I'd blow opposition out of the water - start with 25 million plus bid

Do you think he'll leave?

First summer in many seasons that I don't really have a good feel for what the club is going to do in terms of transfers and that's mostly down to a fractured board.

At the beginning of the season I would've been fully supportive of the Chilean's sale but I remain a fan of him staying, even if at the expense of Pedro. Lucho's say will be definitive and it's hard to imagine both him & Pedro staying

Pace is gravely missed at OT especially for a club like ours who had always relied on quick counters. The only player we have with some real pace is Welbeck.

All this talk of replacing Valencia, I like him and I'd keep him over any of the other options (Young, Nani, Bebe)

and Welbeck sadly has the balance and ball control of bambi on ice at times

not since Nani 2010/2011 have we had a winger who could run at defenders, beat them, score goals, provide assists

we missed out on Moura and Hazard, both of whom would have cost more.....this would be a super deal

I agree. Valencia offers something which the likes of Young, Nani and Bebe do not ie he's defensively sound. I'd rather see us selling Nani or Young then him.

Sanchez, Valencia on the right and Januzaj, Welbeck and possibly another winger on the left would be great.

I remember him in his Udinese days and he was breathtaking. His pace, his technique and his eye to goal was a joy to behold. We need some real pace in the team. We're too slow this days and we're giving opposing defenders too much time to regroup. Sanchez would provide that pace.

Sanchez for £20 mil could go down as bargain of the (coming) season.

Especially if he puts a good word for us with his teammate Vidal.

Vidal, Sanchez, Strootman, Shaw and a quality defender would put us back in the map amongst the top clubs in the world

It makes you wonder how our scouts didn't pick him up when he was on loan from Udinese, would have been a good chance to try and 'replace' Ronny with someone in the exciting / tricky mould - but hey at least we got Obertan.

He seems to have a chronic lack of confidence - he's quick, strong and at his best when running at full backs, only now, he doesnt seem to do that. I saw someone call him "turn back tony" on here. An apt name.

As I recall the club had watched him for years but he wouldnt qualify for a work permit.

Hmmm. I'm sure if we really wanted one we could have got it. By the end of 2007 he already had 9 international caps, I don't think Anderson had even played for Brazil when we bought him - yet he still qualified under the 'special talent' clause.

Just hope he doesn't go to Liverpool. He is the only world class player linked with Liverpool, seeing him choose another club over them would put their fans in the place for a little bit.

Hopefully the fact that they have Sterling means that they won't be pursuing him.

I think they will continue to push him into the middle. But yes, it's probably better for Sterling's development if they don't get Sanchez.

It will definitely allow their fans to start blowing their horns in all direction. Annoying sounds to our ears.

If the likes of Juve and us get involved, I don't see him choosing Liverpool.

Yes, I can't believe Liverpool are even in the picture, they surely don't have a chance.

They have Champions League football, so there's always a chance for them. They wouldn't have to offer an extortionate transfer fee, if Barcalona's valuation is only 20M either.

I'll be surprise if Liverpool chose to buy him instead of strengthening their defense.

I'm not sure players pick clubs on the basis that they've qualified for the CL for the first time in a few years. There are many teams in the CL you wouldn't really want to sign for as a top level player, so I'm not sure how much of a sway it has outside teams that are realistically expected to win or progress far in the competition. Would you sign for a club who has qualified for the first time in a number of years who you think stand a good chance of not progressing beyond the group stages and more than a fair chance (if we consider City, Chelsea, Arsenal and assume United will be back next year) of not qualifying after that - especially if it's a side that hasn't won a domestic title in a quarter of a century?

I'm not saying players won't but I think the 'They've qualified for the CL' element could be vastly over-stated for Liverpool as draw when it comes to competing with others for top players.

Also, the last CL win aside, which I think was probably seen as a bit of an anomaly (see Greece at Euro 2004) are Liverpool a huge draw on the continent these days for them to have a realistic chance of out-bidding/out-appealing the likes of us or Chelsea or even a club based in London for obvious geographical advantages.

They did, we've tried to sign him twice.

All 8 of Anderson's caps came when he was a teenager, before playing for United. He was one of the highest rated teenagers in Europe and was never going to have work permit problems.

And we outbide twice, if i recall.
we were out bid once. The second time he wanted to go to Barcelona and no one else and they had put it in the smallest bid out of us them and city.

I would be ecstatic if we signed Sanchez but nothing will happen until after the World Cup, which will be the case with the vast majority of transfers. I'll be looking out for Chile to see how he and Vidal play, I'm expecting them to do well even though they are in a very tough group.

For the Udinese ? i'm not sure because at the time he chose Udinese because they were long time pursuers and had a lot of south american, he wanted to adapt as fast as possible, so chose the latin club.
