Alexis Sanchez | Done deal

I'm a huge fan of Mhiki but after the first 5 games, Mhiki went missing and Jose still persisted with him. In fact, Lingard didn't get his chance to play until lately when he scored crucial goals for us. Mhiki earns about 150k a week. It's not like he isn't getting paid. He's no victim. He can choose to stick around till the summer. The Sanchez deal does not depend on Mhiki. We can still cough up 35m and get Sanchez. For Raiola and Mhiki wanting to get more than 150k a week from Arsenal is just preposterous especially when Mhiki hasn't done enough to warrant that sort of wages. The bottom line is Mhiki will thrive under a manager like Wenger and not Mourinho who generally responds with tough love. Mourinho has been very patient but he's got to worry about himself as well since at the end of the day, his head and reputation is on the line. A manager can only provide the tactics and give you guidance on how to improve. It comes down to the players to perform which they haven't done consistently.
Or the manager has wrong tactics and using his p
He was played constantly at the beginning of the season despite being average. We are stocked for players in his position, if he doesn't perform he'll be dropped. Lukaku wasn't dropped because our only other striker is a 35 year old who's coming back from one of the worst injuries possible in football. Rashford was dropped for his poor form and is now second choice to Martial.

How is the way he is doing it not nice? He's not forcing Mkhi out of the club. If he wanted to, he could treat him how he treated Schweinsteiger.
We could go on and on arguing. Bottom line, he is out and you get Sanches. Just dont be one of those asshole fans who post shit like :" i will drag his ass down to Emirates myself"

A manager can have wrong tactics but I don't think the tactics were wrong. We've played 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, 3-5-2 and 3-4-3 in which Mhiki has played as a No. 10, CAM, RW and LW. If you carefully watch Mhiki, he loses the ball in really bad areas of the pitch. Mhiki needs space to run at defenders and attack which doesn't really work because the opposition refuse to give him space. Sanchez on the other hand, is able to shield the ball and bulldoze his way to get in a cross or find another alternative. Sanchez is better at crossing with both feet which cannot be said about Mhiki. At the end of the day, you can mourn all you want but Sanchez is the better player and fits us better and Mhiki does not. You can't blame the manager every time. He's got to be fair and give people like Lingard and other players a chance when players like Mhiki don't perform.

I agree that we should rise above such attitudes. But Mhiki has shown staggeringly poor form for months now. His crossing and passing has been woeful. His general play has been poor. Great player on his day and perhaps he needs a fresh start somewhere else.

Additionally, other attacking players have been thriving under Jose: Lingard, Martial, and recently Mata also. On merit he cannot bench any of these players.

When a player as gifted as Sanchez becomes available for relatively little outlay, you take him. This means that we have to remove a player from our books because unlike City, we don't have unlimited funds. It's a shame but Mhiki stands to gain from a fresh start and nice new contract at Arsenal.

Bordeaux manager is pimping Malcom to Liverpool for a reason. Arsenal probably ended their interest once they knew they were getting Mkhi. They will likely go for Auba, but there is no great necessity for Malcom. Now Bordeaux are missing out on the money.

I'd say its' a certainty at this point.

How mad is it that we've gone from muppeting over Morgan Schneiderlin under LvG, to getting Pogba, Rom and possibly now Sanchez under José.

When you look at it like that, it becomes really clear that José and Woody are doing a really decent rebuild.

Mourinho is in the top tier of managers. We needed somebody from the top tier. Somebody who could bring instant silverware. He was the only man for the job. When they spoke to him about the job, they'll have said we want attacking football and we want you to continue our traditions of using academy players. He will have agreed to that, with the caveat that he is allowed time to completely rebuild the squad and that he must be backed, completely, in the transfer market. Both side have kept their end of the bargain so far and although we are not quite 'there' yet, the improvement is plain to see.

Or simply, a much better player is available and Arsenal want Mkhi as a replacement? I highly doubt Jose was meticulously planning to belittle Mkhi as some master plan to sign Sanchez. Mkhi had opportunities, didn't impress, was rightfully dropped, Lingard came in and made the position his and is now being (hopefully) used as bait to sign a much better player, really that simple.

I doubt anyone actually hates him, I certainly don't. He's a talented player but it just didn't work for him here, the same way I didn't hate Kagawa.

I agree, Mourinho's treatment towards Mikhi is actually normal and he had done it to other players as well. How the players reacted varied though, and eventually it will affect the players' future. That being said, I seriously hate when some posters here suddenly turning against Mikhi. Yes maybe they don't really hate him or just joking around. But some of the comments are really just OTT.

Feel like shits gonna be agreed tomorrow and will be made official and registered in time to be on the bench for Saturday. Or at least a United player. Just so exciting to think. He's been my dream signing for ages. Before he went to barca I wanted him. Said he was perfect for us after leaving barca before Arsenal and was all in supporting Chile (and netherlands cause lvg at the time) that world cup cause I loved him as a player. But then thought any hope left once he went to arsenal, and always said we should sign someone like sanchez in an ideal world. Would be gutted if it fell through at this point, but I'm pretty confident it'll happen. Genuinely think he gives us a shot of being serious contenders for the CL, if everyone's fit. We need Bailly back fit and at his best to complete it, but it gives us a shot for sure.

Now that Ornstein has confirmed that it's gonna be a straight swap. It's a ridiculous deal for us.

No money involved. Sanchez wages are added in but we are getting Mkhitaryan off the wage bill. Anyone saying that we are overpaying for Sanchez is pretty stupid.

Mkhi has also probably given us the most he could with him helping us win the EL. Getting rid of him now is perfect.

Definitely a big win for us if that happens since Mkhi has barely played much recently.

This, IF it comes off, it's surely Woody's best ever deal...? I'm struggling to think of anything that would compare.

José is key though, but if it comes off, credit has to go to Woodward too - especially if it's straight swap.

Definitely, well said.

To be fair, Schneiderlin was highly rated back then and LvG also got us Di Maria and Falcao (and you can include Schweinsteiger to that list of big name signings).

I think the deal will happen because IMO both Sanchez and Miki passed the point of no return. Can't see them playing for their clubs again after publicly being dropped and having their respective managers admit that they're on their way out.
They can't stay bacause Arsenal fans know that Sanchez doesn't want to play for them and Miki knows that he's not wanted. They have to move now.

It's a straight swap. Ornstein is basically god tier for Arsenal when it comes to transfers, if he's saying something then it's done.

Yeah, ADM was really exciting, though not as much as this - not to me at least.

Falcao I hadn't ever really watched, and I thought the loan think was a bit weird. I'm always a bit wary of those type of deals after the Tevez saga.

I think the thing for me is that I've wanted Sanchez here since World Cup 2010, I just fell in love with him as a player and I've always genuinely felt that he should've been the player to rescue that number 7 shirt. He's a Utd player, through and through, always has been. I really do believe that after watching him for years.

Ironically, that World Cup was when I also first saw Ozil and was sure that we should sign him too! Imagine if we got him too!

It's a straight swap. Ornstein is basically god tier for Arsenal when it comes to transfers, if he's saying something then it's done.

Wasn't Ornstein's last comments something like, 'deal not close' though? Apologies if I've missed something or am behind on it.

Thought that was interesting so I did this:

QPPhaLG.png

Stats from start of 2015 season, includes Zlatan at PSG, Mkhitaryan at Dortmund in stats etc. My stats are from whoscored so though the tackles and interceptions are different to what that image says, at least it is consistent.

Should have included Firminho so the stats were from the same place

EDIT: Also I'm sure that 1 Lukaku interception led to a goal for us.

If real or barca come calling mikhi wont stay a minute more with us. Loyalty is strangely two way street. Progress means ruthless chopping and upgrading. Sanzhez is a better player. And the club should do it.

As much as I want Sanchez to sign I won't hold it again Mkhitaryan if the deal collapses(and there's a real possibility it will) because he can't agree a deal with Arsenal, or just refuses to join them.

The last player so far out of the door that didn't leave was Ole Gunnar Solskjær, and aren't we all glad he stayed ?

A great example how unexpectable life is. All it takes is a few circumstances, a couple of bad games to go from a solid starting lineup player to shipping him off to Arsenal.
All you need is a bait like Sanches to make everyone hate Mkhi. He has no choice now. If he doesn't leave fans will hate him unless all our attacking players get injured and he play for a few games and does a miracle. This is highly unlikely.
Jose has done his job beautifully. Pulling off a game at half time, keeping off the squad. Saying that Mkhi is a great player: please come and get him. Ive done a number on him, take whatever is left. No wonder the chelsea gang kicked him out.
Mkhi get out of this bullshit as soon as possible and enjoy a few seasons of a great attacking football and make your fans happy.

You are very welcome to move to Arsenal Mania and continue your love affair with him.

Mkhitaryan has been an utter failure of a signing and has only himself to blame for the situation he now finds himself in. He will continue to be crap at Arsenal and you will continue have the pleasure of defending him on whatever platform of your choosing.

I said in his transfer thread the summer he was signed that the guy will likely turn out an Ashley Young-type signing. He disappoints even at that.

That failure of a signing scored six goals and played a massive part in us winning the Europa League last season, including the important 2nd goal in the Final, a result that probably kept Mourinho in his job. Maybe Mourinho should think on that before he bins him off.

Exactly. At max we will pay around 10 Million per season more for signing Sanchez.

A bit too harsh on Mkhi. He played a big role in us winning the Europa last year. That alone is worth the money we paid for him as it got us back into the CL. Now if all goes well, we'll get Sanchez for free which wouldn't have been possible without him. He has played when given the chance and never complained about anything.

He probably did, hence why he got so many chances in the first half of this season.

So? Macheda got probably the most important goals for Utd post 08, can anyone classify his career at Utd as anything but a failure?

For a player supposedly in his peak, signed to be a first teamed and being afforded plenty of leeways over two seasons, yeah, let's say I'm not impressed.

Also, had he not been utterly wank in the league, maybe those Europa's heroics wouldn't be needed to get us CL football. Come to think of it, if our goal is to do well in that competition, may as well keep Depay and play him. He destroyed the likes of Midgetland after all.

I hold no ill will towards the guy, he's simply not good enough and fair dos if he's trying to get as sweet a deal as possible. Even if he insists on staying and blow up this deal, I wouldn't blame him, but let's not pretend that the way his Utd career has panned out so far is due to evil Mourinho masterminding a sinister plan to ruin him.

Even though this is the Sanchez transfer thread, why would anyone “hate” Mkhi?

Yes he’s been underwhelming, but in the event he departs this window there’s certainly nothing to hate about him or his time here. It didn’t work out, he’s got an opportunity to try elsewhere and he had some significant moments for us last season.

If Raiola is saying he suggested the swap 6 weeks ago and Mhki had a football playing issue, why wouldn’t he speed up the process and join Arsenal to get more playing time? The way things went, there is no way back for Mhki after this, so better for him to leave the soonest so he can start training with Welbeck and Co while we unveil our new #7, get it done already!! #Sanchez7

Stupid Liverpool, should have offered Wenger Markovic instead of paying 40M for the Ox. :(

I'm still skeptical it is as black and white as that. I'm sure we will have to subsidize part of Mkhi's wages and pay Raiola's bonus as well. This could be Mkhi's last big contract, so it makes sense for Raiola to milk it as much as possible, without upsetting the relationship with United.

But yeah, still agree. Ridiculous deal if true.
