Anybody else found it difficult to distinguish between him and Cleverley sometimes?

One of them needs to die their hair black or something. Even the commentators got them mixed up on occasions.

Not that I think he had a bad game but to think there were people wishing he would start ahead of Evra vs. Liverpool, the mind boggles.

He's been much better than Evra.

Very nice

Really?
Too early to call for me.

Yep seemed to go to ground to easily for me but then never got caught out. Looks a good addition to the squad I also thought Brady for the short time he came on looked decent.

Easy there, it's not like he's faced the toughest opponents so far.Wigan's players and Obertan.
Amazing how people are quick to say he should play ahead of Evra

Its simply because those sorts of opponents have mugged Evra off for the past 18 months or so.

I don't think Evra has ever struggled against the likes of Obertan and the Wigan wingers. It's just become so fashionable to slate to the point of even backing up a player barely known ahead of him in starting line-up.
I'm not a fan of Evra and I think he's way past his prime but I still find it weird how Buttner is getting rated ahead of him

Evra is the distinct weak link in our lineup right now, it's no surprise that a highly rated young fullback who comes into the squad and breathes life into the position is being touted as the best LB in the team. The poor quality of Evra's performances is no exaggeration.

Its been just about anyone with some speed

Is Lennon, aka Evra's true nemesis, fit for Spurs? If so, there would be a strong case for starting Buttner against them. Lennon used to skin Evra even when he was at this best.

I thought it was quite a balanced performance from him. Did well defensively, and got forward quite well without overdoing it.

Looking forward to see more of him.

He drifts inside a bit too often, he needs to keep the width as whoever plays on the Left will tend to drift in anyway. Other than that he was solid, I like his step-over's too.

I'd agree with that. It was evident yesterday because of the no real out and out winger in front of him. I like him, and I've already said I thought he was going to be a good buy but I would like him to stay a bit wider. Hardly takes anything away from his 2 very good performances. On the post about Wigan and Obertan, that is wingers that Evra has struggled against. Look at Southampton. He got skinned numerous times but Puncheon.

I think in his 2 games Buttner has certainly done enough to be given the chance to prove himself against better opposition, especially with the form Evra has shown for a couple of seasons now

At the moment evra is the only player whose got a guaranteed first team place. Ddg and rooney have all sat on the bench whenever their form nosedived. I rate evra alot however i dont think he deserve such status. Hes been underperforming for months.

What had fabio done with united to be given a guaranteed first team place?
Very good question, I actually think it's possible he's not going to make it at United. Injuries, less experience, Evra and now Buttner etc.

Nah, Evra has been awful for awhile now. He's been consistently getting exposed even against lesser teams. Although to be fair to him he's started to show improvement in the last month or so. But I don't think criticising him is being done because its fashionable. He's genuinely making so many regular mistakes that people game help but criticize him.

I agree. He will be a decent cover for Fabio.

Unless we are going to get a left-footed player to play ahead of him there is a minimal chance that Fabio would be our permanent LB. Nani, Young, Welbeck are all right footed and playing Fabio, who is also right footed, behind them would kill all the width.

I see Fabio as more our utility player when comes back. He would be substituting with his brother on the right, play some games on the left, left wing for cup games etc.

Buttner and Blackett are the future for the LB position, IMO.

Decent game tonight, few exciting runs. Seemed to fade in the second half though, one dodgy cross (think he might have been clattered as he took it though?), and gave the ball away a number of times.

Encouraging performance though.

I've used "though" far too much in this post.

You need this brand of player in your squad. Young, hungry and volatile is our Alex. If we had 10 Nicolas Powells or Smallings( calm head, composure n all that) it would be less interesting to watch IMO. I strongly feel Sir Alex needs to persevere with this boy. He's got that tenacity in him. That element which players like Keano, Gattuso..etc had.

Nah, it was poor match from him tbf, game to forget. It's good to have him as a backup, but he shouldn't be starting any important matches.

Agree with the Art about his mentality though.

He was at fault for both the goals we conceded.

Definitely wasn't the greatest of starts for him. But he's young and it's all part of the learning experence. He hasn't played at this level before. To his credit he looked more solid in the second half.

When he tightens up his defending he can get to work on his end product as well. He did mess up a few runs and his crossing didn't pose much of a threat either.

Tbf whilst he was at fault for those goals the damage was done earlier. First goal we let ourselves get outnumbered out wide and they could put in a good ball and it's hard when a taller player has the run on you. Think with 2 more experienced centrebacks they would have taken control of the area better and gotten the header away. Second goal he could have tracked better but it's hard to really stop that sort of goal once they're in behind you, you can't literally stick to players and if you try and pull them back you'll likely concede the pen.

On the whole thought he was good and his enthusiasm is really refreshing. Still a bit raw in his execution but his determination gets us into good areas and maybe could have had 1 pen.

Maybe he could have, but it was a dive.

Don't think it was a dive, there was minimal contact, though. Anyway, it was probably just outside the area.

Didn't think he had the best of games tonight, overall.

Have only seen the highlights, but I take it he isn't going to replace evra based of this performance and it was nothing like his first game for us?
