Let's all just wait and see what happens next time he plays...or at least a few more games....more data to analyze then

He looked more solid in the game he played for the reserves, he didn't make as many mistakes, but he wasn't as offensively potent. Though he had to do more defending than he did against Wigan and didn't get into the final third as often. But most seemed to agree he looked like a class above the reserves.

While he obviously won't average a goal and assist a game, or anything like it, I think he's a better defender than he showed. Apparently he was a bit nervous, would explain the rashness, he was quoted as saying, "I came onto the pitch and had heavy legs. The atmosphere was very nice, but the stadium rings out with eighty thousand people very close to the pitch, it led also to a game of nerves. Not normal, dude. I had never had this before."

Well minus the nerves he would be a force to be reckoned with. He played pretty well for someone that was not 100% in 'the zone'

Can't remember the poster but I saw Buttner being casually referred to as 'Buttsex'. I still laugh when I type it.

Probably because with one game played he's averaging a goal and assist per game.

Plus 3 dribbles (over double Rafael in 2nd place for United), 2 key passes (joint top with Valencia), 2 times fouled (joint top again), 2 shots (6th). It all counts I'm sure. But yes one match

I would still play Evra. Although he has made a couple of errors tonight.

It is too big a game for Buttner

with evra starting today it will be buttner this weekend.
I doubt it to be honest. SAF i think will go for evra against liverpool. Buttner may have to wait until the game after depending on who it is to get a chance again.

Heinze scored in his debut...

I really hope Buttner can have as good a debut season but not regress thereafter (or suffer some terrible injury). He's already better going forward than Heinze ever was. After one match.

Yea but buttner was originally a winger so that is to be expected. Heinze was pretty solid defensively and it is too early to tell whether buttner is competent enough defensively when facing the toughest players

To be honest Evra played well enough to "deserve" a spot in the team vs Pool, but so did Buttner, and I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't like to see him play, however the bench is as far as he'll get I think.
Should play next game though

SAF will probably go for the experience of Evra, especially considering that it's a such a huge/daunting occassion.

What I like about Buttner though is his aggression. We've been outfought at Anfield over the past few seasons, so I'd have liked a couple of players who wasn't scared to get stuck in.

I've got a feeling he'll go for Buttner. Evra played last season because we didn't really have a back up and he's shown he's not worried about dropping players in hostile atmospheres. Leaving Evra out reduces the chances of 40,000 dippers getting their knickers twisted and creating a good atmosphere.

No chance he'll start at Anfield but I'd expect him to play in the CC next week and probably the later group games in the CL.

Solid game from him tonight. Not much flashy stuff like against Wigan, but good game I thought.

No winger for us probably changed the amount he got forward.
He could be up against 2 players from newcastle.

Was solid. Nothing wrong.
Not too rash, so Fergie will probably be pleased.

Anybody else found it difficult to distinguish between him and Cleverley sometimes?

Against Wigan he was a beast going forward and solid defensively, and against Newcastle he was more than solid defensively while not having quite the attacking game he had in his 1st game.

All and all a great showing from him so far, doesn't look suspect at the back, gets in a good amount of tackles, and is a joy to watch when we're attacking down the left flank.

Fergie, Fergie, sign him up! Oh wait...

Hmmm...I'd worry about his positioning in the big games. There was one instance when we were pressing where he stayed in the hole for about a minute. Otherwise, fantastic.

Is there a fullback at United, or in the world, whose positioning you don't worry about? All attacking fullbacks are caught upfield. He mostly seems to bust his arse getting back, but like Evra he likes, and probably is told to attack. He also sometimes wanders infield, like Evra, which makes it look like he is caught out of position. I noticed it on a couple of occasions, but each time Fletcher or Cleverley covered for him, so it didn't matter, and that is how it should be.

If a fullback helps out in attack, he should expect that other more attacking players help him out in defense. It's all about karma really :D

All the time, especially on the shitty stream. It doesn't help that Clev is number 23, Büttner is number 26.

He drifts inside a bit too often, he needs to keep the width as whoever plays on the Left will tend to drift in anyway. Other than that he was solid, I like his step-over's too.

His past experience as a winger are clearly in use of his favour, even in such huge club like United.

All he need is to find the right balance between defensive and attacking attitude and he'll rule on the left side for years to come.

Still, lots of experience to gain but so far, that modest 4 millions are very well spent. Kudos, SAF.

Not that I think he had a bad game but to think there were people wishing he would start ahead of Evra vs. Liverpool, the mind boggles.
