Wow! How quickly some form an opinion.
We signed Vidic, Ole, Irwin, Sharpe, Schmeichel etc for low fees, and with no real reputation.
Fergie often sees something that tells him, although a rough diamond, with a bit of work, there is a United player in the making.
He has had some that didn't work out, but all of them are given time before the rug is pulled.
I suggest that this is usually longer than two months.

Honestly the only bad thing I remember him doing was giving away the penalty. I didn't even get the impression he was being a weak link. Maybe I was concentrating more on what others were doing.

I thought Moses gave him a torrid time and he gave the ball away cheaply once or twice while in Chelsea's half.

He was fine as far as I was concerned last night. Victor Moses physically dominated him at times, but Moses has done that to a fair few players.

No word on his performance yesterday.

I thought he was decent, made some good runs down the left, good delivery, promising.

Steadier than his kamikaze defending against Chelsea.....progressing

Not sure he's any better than Fabio or Brady.

Probably never going to a regular starter, but he has a gutsy charcter that makes me think he can develop into a good squad player.

Its weird yeah.
I was thinking the same thing, he had an alright game. He wasn't spectacular but his runs down the left were good, he made some great deliveries into the box too. His cross at the corner for Vidic's header was incredible.

Crap in the first half. Thought he did better in the second half.

I think theres plenty of work to do defensively and for someone who was a winger his delivery is dissappointing. He also likes to take chances with dribbles and things in his own half with mixed results. Save that for further up the pitch

This has been my general opinion of him since that outstanding debut. Obviously that one match showed he has it in him to do a lot better

He looked more like a West Ham player than a utd one, average at best.

Agree.

He hardly bombed forward at all. Has SAF had a word?

Indeed. Infact there was more than a few occasions where he held back when he should have been making the run.

3 or 4 appearances and some have already decided he can't be a starter here.

He's a nice enough player but I'll be surprised of he went on to be a starter for us. Definitely a capable backup though.

Same here. He seems to be beaten on the by line very easily and has a tendency to let people into the box before trying to tackle them which is pretty dangerous

Agreed...I was actually surprised by how easily the West Ham players managed to beat him, since he is normally quite pacy. He just seems to lack awareness and reaction speed, but it could just be a lack of match fitness.

In fairness, Evra started out as a left winger. In fact, reading that you could be describing Evra in the last couple of seasons.

I thought he should've got forward much more than he did, we had no width on the left hand side. Smalling was a lot more dodgey in possession but he at least attempted to get in behind their defence and offer us an outlet on the wing, was expecting Buttner to do the same but he didn't which was strange.

I thought he was a bit disappointing in this game. Seems to have quite a bit of work to do defensively and didn't do overly much going forward either. Felt like he lost the ball more often than not when trying to take the ball forward at times. At this point it is looking like he will be an average back up, but won't push Evra out any time soon.

Played very well tonight I thought. Good going forward and defending, plenty of energy and aggression too.

Should fabio be worried?

I thought one of the better players of the game tonight, showed strength, determination, a bit of trickery and defensively he was solid for the main part, got to say one of the best PL's reserve LB imo, especially on tonight anyway, lets hope he can build on it

He's very hard to shake off the ball, a bit weak positionally but I'm positive about him.

By all accounts he's been very good in the last few games for QPR.

Games you presumably haven't seen then?

Yet you're still confident he's better than Buttner, even though you've not watched him then. Right.

Decent showing from him tonight.

Tie a 20 yard rope around his waist and attach the other end to Vidic at centre-back and he'll be grand. Every other aspect of his game is in pretty good nick.
